This is where all the reports of hauntings at the hotel come flooding in. Otherwise, not much happens at the police station.

    • The overcast day had been a relief to Zane. The officer huddled behind his heavy oak desk, carefully swiveling in the mesh chair with a slightly weathered down armrest on the right. Left hand tapped the ink pen. tap tap tap. In spite of the weather changes to his favorite time of year, this was nearly the worst time of year when it came to enforcing the law. Peek season, holidays coming up, more distressed calls flood the local dispatcher. From fried turkeys exploding and causing grease fires, to drunk driving, and crazy uncles trying to set the bar for the best stereotypical family brawls. No. The crazy uncle episode happened the night before and here Zane was filling out the forums while the man sat in intake to cool off.

With only four holding cells; the office is on the smaller side. Wasn't much but it had been enough for the small town. More often than not, charges were dropped and/or the perpetrator made quick bail. Speeding, drunk driving, domestic disputes... Nothing too major as of late. Even the calls from the haunted hotel had been a bit quiet as of late. A queer happening but none of the less suspicious. Though this was not a complaint in the least bit. Zane leaned to the right of his chair and leaned back after signing his name on the now completed forum. Head tilted back and to the side, eyes drifting to the open window in a thoughtless trance. Cool breeze came into the dank space, giving Zane goosebumps due to the temperature difference.

The AC worked fine within the department... but whatever the Commissioner said, went. No one dared touched the thermostat. The thing would be at a constant seventy eight degrees Fahrenheit and wouldn't turn on unless it it hit eighty degrees in office. An armpit, but at least it forced the enforcement out and into the town in their squad cars. Zane took a hefty breath then exhaled for finally finishing. He stood from the chair, it rolling backwards, and grabbed his coat from the old fashioned rack. One arm through the sleeve and then the other, he popped the collar and waved to their administrator before heading out to his car.

A cooler day. A perfect day. Chilled and the changing of season heightened his senses and thankfully allergies weren't a common consideration for the Kelpie. He breathed clearly, the iron lightly burning his throat. The sensation he came use to again but had no adaptation for. The northern wind brushed back his hair until Zane popped his cap and straightened it to his brow. His hands went to his belt, his holster where his standard issued Glock 22 with full magazine of fifteen. Though, he carried a dual clip with him, One filled with silver bullets. Figuratively a double edged sword in a way all things considering... Something he found humors within itself, carrying such a thing. Necessity and logical due to his own knowledge of the influx of certain visitors. Zane wasn't a hunter by any means, he simply sought to protect and defend the cattle; his home turf when it was possible. Again he felt the breeze tease and cool his face, suppose the cooler day also came from the lack of sun. He could not be happier.

Flipping out his keys on key-ring, twirling on his index finger, he pointed and clicked to unlock the truck he partly funded himself. The beastly beauty 2018 Ram 1500 Special Service. From driving an old 1996 Jeep, to his Ram had been the needed upgrade he selfishly deserved. A very good day.

╔══════════════════════════════════════════════════╗

Only two hundred times did the alarm beep before Terra finally smacked it. Like a waking cat, she stretched her entire body, yawned and sat up slowly. Her dark hair was bed-head central and her eyes were hardly slit open. Man I wish I slept better. Terra had an unusual night of heavy pondering prior to sleep, which made her forget about dinner. And when you mind is full and your stomach is empty, it can prove a difficult time for resting. "Okay," She said to herself. "Today will be the day I finally bring it up to Zane."

After minutes of making her bed, feeding her kitten, Ven, and stretching her body, Terra finally woke up and realized something. Her apartment was brighter than normal. "Shoot. What time is it?" She dared to take a glance at the alarm she aggressively hit. Noon. Her coworker at the police station would be clocking off in 30 minutes. She immediately threw on a plain white T-shirt, joggers, and her black Nike's, brushed her teeth and pressed on deodorant because she knew better than to look AND smell like a total bum in front of Zane, and pulled her hair into a round bun. Out her apartment door and onto a late start of her day.

Feeling a cool Autumn breeze on her face, Terra jogged the sidewalks of Genvale toward the police station. She checked her watch every minute and predicted she was too late after the tenth glance. But I needed to ask him something. She picked herself up to a marathon pace, still taking the chance she could catch her coworker in time.

Sight of the police station gave Terra brief anxiety. However, it completely washed away when she caught sound of what would only be Zane's flashy truck beep sitting to the side of the station. There he was, twiddling with his keys and looking proud as usual. Terra could finally relax. As she stopped, she accumulated large beads of sweat and realized how exhausted she was. Ugh. If I slept a normal night's rest I wouldn't be in this state. With heavy breaths, she jogged toward Zane waving and shouted, "Zane! Hang on a sec!"

    • Still in the buyers admiration of the new toy and a bit oblivious to anything but what was ahead of him; Zane took strides for the squad truck. His hand now on the white handle and just before he could pull an abrupt shout halted him. Taking a moment to register who and then recognizing the voice of the familiar office intern calling over the parking lot. He paused. Rolling his eyes and slowly rolling his head as he pivoted on heel to greet her with an irritated, tired stare. Ms Atwood came exasperated in huff and beading with sweat. Jogging with knees to chest, she approached with question in her expression.

Tense and wanting nothing more than to go home and rest, eat something, and then nap again before returning to duty; Zane waited for the woman. Although fixated, violet hazel eyes wouldn't be cold to Ms. Atwood, they still held a friendly warmth in addition with correcting his posture to ease the menacing look he first gave. Shoulders dropping and arms crossing, his fingers still fumbling with the keys as he stood in wait after being told, 'hang on'. Unable to help the still stern expression, Zane cocked is head to the right, "Damn, almost made it out of the lot..." He muttered the tease, mostly to make himself lighten up.

A moment of confusion flashed and Zane quirked his head. Why she appeared adamant about something in the waving she had done, he anticipated a brief conversation or just answering a question with 'no.' Really, he already committed to the conversation by acknowledging the shout and turning around. These second thoughts were killing him but, he held it in well enough. Zane turned his right arm over and looked at his watch. Confirming the time, he furrowed his brows and squinted as the sun slightly peeked from the clouds for just a moment before returning behind the cover. An a*****e for not moving to make the distance shorter, sure. Zane would accept that.

╔══════════════════════════════════════════════════╗

As the tall sturdy man's back turned, Terra saw a familiar sternness emanating from Zane. She knew how punctual Zane prided himself being, and it would only be bad news if some entity interrupted his daily-dos. She needed to be upfront and concise before his patience ran out. Unfortunately, the sweat was winning over her attention. As she stopped a meter's distance from the man, she pulled up the bottom of her white shirt and wiped the sweat from her face, not minding her mid drift being exposed. Next, she needed to catch her breath. Raising both arms and holding her hands, she placed them on top of her head to aid her breathing.

She finally looked at Zane. His strong jawline and piercing hazel eyes made Terra feel intimidated the first few weeks of knowing him, but now she found his features unique and certainly enjoyable to analyze. For interning just under a month, Terra has learned the most from watching Zane and following his eyes during work. Whether in combat training or investigating a scene, the things Zane did and why he did were only sourced from intense critical thinking. However, his eyes never seemed to rest from working so diligently. At times Terra wondered if her coworker had another side to his seemingly one-dimensional character.

"Hello, Zane. I'm sorry I've come looking like I ate a dozen doughnuts and then tried running them off, but you know how I don't have a vehicle right now, and I wanted to make it to work in time. Well- I mean, I'm not here for work, obviously. Ahaha." Great. Why am I a flustered mess right now? Terra cleared her throat, wishing she had some water. As the sun peeked over a cloud, the light shone of Terra's face, glistening her skin. She did her best to compose herself. "Sir, do you have a few moments? I won't take long." It was finally something on the right track. "It's important to me," she finished adamantly with the cloud recapturing the sun's light.

    • Momentarily Zane buckled his hip and leaned onto his truck's door with all intent in attempting to be patient. The posture representing he would stay a while in his decision to commit to the conversation. Even if it were long winded. Terra dew out his wait, stretching and catching her breath when she came up to a proper speaking distance to where they both weren't raising their voice. A sort of admiration for Terra; she didn't live to far from the station but, she appeared to have jogged the ways from her home. A brisk jog at that, judging from being out winded and the perspiration. Slowly, as Terra spoke and was still exasperated form the jog, she seemed a bit out of character from the joke. He deadpanned into a squint, eyes shifting and trying to figure out what she wanted. The humor was dismissed when she corrected herself in continuation which made him adjust his position on the door. Leaning forward.

Socialization out side of work wasn't a usual occurrence for him. No children, no family, no significant other so there wasn't a real reason to aquatint himself past knowing everyone in this small town. Perhaps a deviation from his schedule was long overdue. Convincing himself, he nodded internally and broke his narrowed gaze with grin, "Ms. Atwood, relax, I have a few moments to spare," He replied and looked over his shoulder into the tinted windows of his truck. A thought of giving her an invitation for, what he would consider dinner, crossed his mind if Terra did have a long winded important thing to discuss. Zane dismissed the thought until he could hear her out.

'Ehhh, I want food'. Zane contradicted the decision in a matter of milliseconds and flicked his keys again around his pointer finger, a mouth watering image of Chinese food crossing his mind, 'Beside she'll more than likely be long winded'. A grunt and a bump to lift himself from leaning on the cab door. Zane gripped his key and hit twice to unlock the passenger side, motioning with his head for her to come along and going further with the invitation, "Since I'm positive you just woke up and you want to discuss something with me, feel like explaining over something at Temple Dragon?"

Seeing Zane's posture and grin, Terra realized she had been worried over nothing. Of course, he would stop to pay considerable mind to a friend. Feeling flustered moments before, hearing Zane's kind offer raised her eyebrows and her lips made a small circle in shock. "Oh!" This was unexpected. She tilted her head and considered having lunch with Zane over everything she had planned for the day. Then her tummy growled loudly like a beast howling at the full moon. Suddenly, her usual character returned, completely blocking out whatever she had so heavily on her mind for the past eighteen hours. Her tummy would win against all as she exclaimed, "Yes! Chinese sounds great right now! She flashed a grin showing her straight, white teeth making her eyes squint at the corners.

She glanced at Zane's new truck. Dang, riding shotgun in his new truck AND grabbing lunch with him? Heck yes. Her excitement quickly faded though when she realized she carried nothing with her. No wallet and form of I.D. in case she wanted a beer or two. She must have been in too big of a hurry to reach Zane in time to think logically. The day almost started well, but not this time. She had been lucky up until now. Her smile had disappeared. She raised her arm and hung it around her neck. "Ahh, just one thing," Terra began. Her eyes danced back and forth between his hazel eyes and random surrounding objects. "I'll have to pay you back...Or, you can have your lunch and I'll just have some water. I'm dying for just that, actually."She definitely needed something to quench her, but food on top of that would have been divine. To Terra, that was okay. She remembered Zane had just finished a long shift, needing to return within hours, and truthfully, it should be whatever he wants in exchange for her time.

    • Although off duty, Zane proudly ordained the thick cotton uniform despite protocol for civilian clothes when clocked out. An intentional neglect due to the treatment of the officers as a whole, rather they were in uniform or without. Such a small town, it was typical to go to your neighbors for help and even more so if you knew they were trained. The chief often claimed it to be an oversight when in audit, however everyone just simply ignored it and went about their business. Only one changing room since the building is so old, built old fashioned from the day when only men were reviewed for officer positions, in short it had become unisex by vote. Showers and lockers, thankfully curtains for the stalled showers to respect the privacy if someone were to be in an awkward perspective. Zane hadn't been sweating since most of the day was finishing paperwork, well, sweating enough to where he felt a need to take the shower at work. Though, it was apart from the schedule when he went home... More like a soak in salt water instead of a shower. He would have the constant scent of the sea anyway.

Zane gripped the truck handle and pulled for the second time. Opening the door and climbing in, sitting with a pause and looking back over to Terra. Although a hard-a**, he would make sure stomachs were full before barking. Sensitive ears caught wind of Terra's hunger rumbling and then, what was thought to be hesitation, quickly transformed into the bright smile. Zane clicked his tongue on the roof of his mouth, annoyance in waiting again for her. Zane turned his head into the cabin of the truck, clearing out the passenger seat by putting a small tool box into the floorboard. He closed the door and twisted the key in the ignition to start the better of rumbles, the sound of horse power at work before it came to a softer purr. Terra had not moved from where she stood, her excitement dwindled to a sort of disappointment. He rolled down the window and leaned out with his arm resting on the seal. Of course she forgot her wallet.

Fingers tapped and his head leaned on his shoulder. "Don't worry about it." Zane retorted and waved for her to jump into the squad truck. He figured he would cover her anyway, it was expected when you invite someone. To be polite, you pay. He considered it to be a normal in the society he assimilated into anyhow. Moving his elbow and running his finger over the switch, he rolled up the window and leaned back in the leather seat. He waited for when Terra got in and buckled, yawning and relaxing on the head rest, he stretched his arms out over his head before putting them on the steering wheel. Mind drifting from the curiosity of Terra's question and to the food he were to order, something salty.

With complete attention on Zane adjusting the interior of his truck to make room for her, Terra sighed. Trying not to say more to further annoy Zane, she silently walked around the front of the truck and opened the passenger door. She planted one foot on the floor base with one hand grabbing the frame and the other on the interior door and hiked herself up inside. The seat was quite comfortable and it brought her to a lethargic state. She leaned back, and turned her head left to look at her colleague. "Thank you, Zane," she exhaled and turned her head the other way, trying hard not to rest her eyes.
