You are in the Stables of the Circus.
You do not quite remember how you got here, only that you ARE here. You're still in the circus. You're still a performer. But somehow, things are a little confusing...somehow, you have this feeling that you can't quite put your finger on like something is...off.
The Stables are where are the animals are kept - and very well kept, at that. Everything is clean and orderly, or rather, as much as can be for a place brimming with creatures. There are tigers and lions and elephants, as well as several well groomed horses and a few dogs and cats that simply roam the circus. They travel with you, don't they?
Don't they..?
Quote: YOU ARE IN THE STABLES You still have no memories of your actual life, you are STILL a performer of the circus! Something feels very odd; like something should be wrong, but you can't tell what it is.
Please roll 1d12 and react accordingly! You can roll up to three times.
You are also free to branch off and make PRPs / solos if you wish to respond to the prompts that way instead of here; and also to make backdated PRPs / solos just for casual circus times! 1 - A lion roars at you, but for some strange, bizarre reason, it just sounds like a cat's meow. You can't quite figure out what that means, and for some reason, your mind doesn't want to admit that it's a cat, because lions totally make that sound. Don't they?
2 - You could have sworn that, just yesterday, you mucked out one of the horse's stalls. But now it looks as though there wasn't even a horse in this particular stall ever. But you swear you just did...
3 - For a brief moment, you have a memory of - something. Someone. Some place, somewhere that doesn't fit. It's only fleeting, barely time to grasp anything, but it feels - right...? No, it can't be right. It doesn't make sense. The circus is right. The circus is your home. Isn't it?
4 - At the edges of your vision, you see something glinting over by one of the elephants, near the tent flap that goes outside. An odd sort of glint that seems wrong somehow. Off. But when you and a few others go over to investigate, there's nothing there. Just a trick of the light..?
5 - You feel like going for a ride. The horses are performers, yes, but they're also gentle beasts and you've ridden them before. You go to get one ready but as you get closer to the stall, you can't help but feel like you've forgotten something. When you arrive at the stall, you can't remember what you were doing. Why did you come here?
6 - You go to feed the horses with a partner and discover that, on the floor of their stall, there's a riding crop that looks vastly out of place. Maybe you should pick it up and return it to one of the horsemasters... (+1 riding crop, multiple people are allowed to get this)
7 - Man, you're hungry. It's time for a snack, isn't it? You usually keep snacks in your bag, but...huh, that's strange. Didn't you have it with you? Did you ever have it with you? You thought you brought it into the tent, but maybe you didn't at all...
8 - One of the lions seems unhappy, prowling around, pawing restlessly at the ground. But when you try to go closer, his normal, relaxed big-cat persona turns vicious, a snarl in your face and a lashing out from behind the cage. You know you treat these creatures well and don't hurt them - in fact, they've always adored you. But something seems...off. They seem angry. Upset. Trapped. Are you trapped? No - no you're not - you're -
9 - There is music coming from somewhere. Not the usual circus fanfare, but an odd, twisted, music box melody that you can't quite pinpoint. It wavers in and out like a badly tuned radio, and every time you think you still hear it, you don't.
10 - Something flickers through your mind. A thought, maybe, that something is - wrong. You're not supposed to be here, are you? You're not supposed to be...what were you thinking about again? You're supposed to be helping take care of the animals, get back to work!
11 - One of the circus cats meows at you. For some reason, it sounds like its...talking? Well, that's not strange, there are several cats around that can talk...except...that's not - that's normal, is it? Cats aren't supposed to talk. They're not, they're...awwww, the cat is purring at you. You should fetch it some snacks!
12 - A woman with white hair walks by and flashes you a flirtatious grin, twirling her flowered parasol as she sashays on. There's something odd about it...have you seen her before? You can't seem to remember...

TiberiusQuote: 9 - There is music coming from somewhere. Not the usual circus fanfare, but an odd, twisted, music box melody that you can't quite pinpoint. It wavers in and out like a badly tuned radio, and every time you think you still hear it, you don't. Tiberius sauntered into the animal stables as though he owned them; he was still thinking about how Toby had been racist in his direction...and how common that sort of thing was. Most folks in the circus seemed to have no issues accepting that a cat could be of human intelligence - just not higher, as was actually the case - or that they could talk, but when it came to things like romantic love, they balked.
Possibly because they didn't actualize him as a being, but more a freaky feline and as such thought of any sort of romance - even if it were unconsummated and remained only of the intellectual sort - as bestiality.
It was utterly asinine, but there wasn't much that Tiberius could do about those sorts of misconceptions, now could he? Best thing was to just keep living his life and try to keep an up-beat attitude about it. And occassionally troll the little shits about it, when it's opportune to do so. As he had with Toby, who had been good natured enough about the ribbing - which had been serious and also not.
Music, discordant and annoying, broke the cat's concentration. Shaking his head from reveries and bringing his thoughts back to the job at hand - inspecting the tack for the Liberty Act and various others - Tiberius swivelled his ears to try and pinpoint where the jarring sounds were coming from. It was...not correct. Not the bright fanfare of any act that might be in practise, not the jaunty welcome of any circus song he knew (and he knew them all by then)...it was more like some kind's music box.
But broken. Or maybe just out of tune, since it seemed to be playing it's awful melody pretty well, but in some odd...wonky way.
It also seemed as though the sound were being fed back through some sort of really scratchy and distant PA system or cheap radio, with static so thick that even when the melody was coming through clear enough for his sensitive feline ears to pick up the fact that it was using a lydian diminished minor scale behind it's creep factor, he couldn't identify the actual key or pick out more than a few notes at a time.
Tiberius decided it wasn't that important and stepped into the tack room, nodding to another of the employee's as he hopped up onto a narrow bench and inhaling deeply the scents of leather, oil, grease, and soap. This was important, not some weird-a** music that he couldn't even determine was coming from anywhere.
"Hey Joe, how's yer hodensack?" Was it a polite thing to be asking? Not really, but they weren't in polite company and it was fine - just two dudes talking about the finer things. Joe grinned, showing off yellowed teeth as he muttered something in German at the cat. Joe didn't speak much English, Tiberius spoke about five words of German - but they got along. "Next time, don't walk behind the ********' horse, yeah?"
Joe said something else, laughing and gesturing rudely at his crotch, but Tiberius was distracted once more by that godawful music...where the hell was it coming from? A glance at the human said that he didn't hear s**t - so either it wasn't on a frequency the man could pick up...or Tiberius was going dogshit bonkers.
"Joe ol' pal, I got a bad feelin' about all this..."WC: 582

gaia_sakura For Melody~ Quote: 1 - A lion roars at you, but for some strange, bizarre reason, it just sounds like a cat's meow. You can't quite figure out what that means, and for some reason, your mind doesn't want to admit that it's a cat, because lions totally make that sound. Don't they? Melody wasn't sure exactly how she'd ended up in the animal stables but she was assuming it was in search of one or more of her missing friends. If she couldn't find one she could often find at least one of the others here in the stables and go from there. And considering Khaleel's role as working with his tigers, she assumed she was in search of him to find out where Orah, Lilith or Zach might be. With luck one or both would be with the tiger tamer. Or if nothing else, she could hang out with him until one of them showed up. The stables weren't a terrible place to hang out, unless the smell of animals was a bother or certain animal sounds upset someone. She was used to it though, always had been. Hadn't she? A small frown as she shoved the thought away, brown eyes glancing around for sight of the tamer or his tigers. "Khaleel?" she called out, cupping a hand by her mouth to try and make her voice louder. Some times it was hard to hear someone over the sound of the animals. He was sure to be here, right? Sure the tigers seemed to sleep with the tamer more then they spent time in the stables but surely he would be here if this was where she had ended up... Right? Brows knitted together as she turned a corner, stopping against a roll of hay to call out again. "Khaleel, are you here?" Not even the sound of the tigers replied back and Melody found herself feeling confused and lost. There was no way she would have come here if she hadn't been sure of her friend's location, especially since his tent would have been the first place she'd have checked. Which meant she had to have checked it if she was here. Maybe she'd just missed him...? Holding her chin in her hand as she walked, turning to try and find her way back to the entrance to search elsewhere, the blonde found herself only more lost in the stables and staring down a lion. Oh she had definitely taken a wrong turn some where... Well, at least it was still in the cage. "Hello gorgeous~" she purred to the lion, resisting the urge to reach out and pet it like a normal cat. Just because the tigers sought affection like the house cats that lived with them at the circus didn't mean she could just reach out and pet the lions. The large feline replied as it stretched out in it's cage, though it... didn't sound right? More like the stray cats that roamed the carnival then what she was sure the lion should have sounded like. But that was silly, right? She was definitely staring at a lion, so clearly it was a lion's roar. Even if it sounded like a cat it was definitely a lion. Right? Maybe this lion had always sounded like that. It was more believable then it being an actual cat, her mind pointed out. Which... that didn't quite sound right either but she wasn't going to argue. This whole situation was a giant headache as far as she was concerned and now all she wanted to do was find her friends and just relax. Rubbing fingers across her forehead, trying to rub away the headache, she looked up to the lion once more. It seemed totally unconcerned with her, laying there as it's tail twitched languidly. There was another roar from the lion that yet again resonated wrong as once more it sounded more like a cat's meow then an actual lion's roar. Yea... that was too weird, even for her. Turning on her heel Melody moved to try and find her way out of the stables. She needed to find her usual crew and take a moment to exist in normalcy. Or well, what normalcy existed when one lived in the circus. wc: 661

Alphonse Wingates-St. Grey - Fire ArcheryThere is music coming from somewhere. Not the usual circus fanfare, but an odd, twisted, music box melody that you can't quite pinpoint. It wavers in and out like a badly tuned radio, and every time you think you still hear it, you don't.Ready. Aim. Fire. Another excellent shot. Alphonse watched as the fire slowly burned on his arrow and admired the dancing, ethereal flickering. He was practicing for his act again; trick shots using fire and nothing else but his bow and body. He loved the feel - in fact, the thrill - of it. Beauty and precision. Grace and passion. Ice-cold focus and firey danger. He did not simply love it. He lived for it. His hearing was acute and his sense heightened when he was preparing for a shot. The bow stretching in his hand. The string quivering on his fingers. The arrow lightly caressing his cheek. His trained fingers touched blood on his cheek. The fletching on his arrow had glanced just under his eye as the arrow flew astray. A vertical cut marred an otherwise perfectly made-up face. He had heard something strange that had broken his concentration. The sound of a music box. Faint and delicate, yet eerily calling... Where was the sound now? He could no longer place it. Perhaps he had never heard it at all. ✪

What was troubling the animals? He had worked with them for years and they had always taken to him. Now they cowered, snarled and even attacked him from their cells. He wasn't their tamers, but today he carried a curled whip on his belt. He had been attempting to use the slick piece of leather in his trick act, but had succeeded in nothing with it. Unless you counted the time he had accidentally lashed himself. The wound still smarted. He would have to ask their trainers. Surely, someone would know why the animals behaved so strangely around him. ✪
