Heavy snow had plagued Destiny City for a few days and it seemed to take ages for the clouds to clear. When they finally thinned, there was something more surprising than just the night sky: a glorious display of colorful light danced over Destiny City. A myriad of colors paint the sky, twisting colorfully. Auroras are uncommon in this area, but it’s something unique to see. Of course, ‘unique’ in Destiny City isn’t always a good thing…
Richard gave a long stretch, rousing from another catnap. The power was still out, so no television, internet, phones only to be used for emergencies to conserve their charge... The yawn that followed was nearly as long as the stretch. The house was still, and he was coming to miss the hum of electricity and the noises appliances usually made that he usually ignored, such as the hum of the refrigerator, the sound of the heating kicking on when it got too cool...
He rolled over in bed toward the window, gazing at it blankly before it occurred to him that there was more light than there normally ought to be. Sitting up, he pushed the curtains back from the window and looked up at the sky. The colours dancing and shifting caused his eyes to light up with them. He didn't remember the last time he'd seen an aurora, if ever, and this was beautiful. Were they even far enough north for an aurora?
That did nag him a little, but he pushed the thought away as paranoia.
"Ignacio?" He called out quietly, realizing belatedly he hadn't checked if he was alone in the room or not.

Richard was right to check, because Ignacio actually wasn't in the room. He had been going a bit stir crazy, but he hadn't exactly wanted to go outside considering the snow, so he had just decided to walk up and down the hallway.
It wasn't helping anything, really, but at least he wasn't sitting in one place anymore, and getting some blood moving in his veins was at least one way to help dispel the urge to throw himself out the nearest window and run away into the dark, cold night screeching for some sort of sweet release.
Except he wouldn't be running very well, it was snowing, and snowing hard at that, and there was only so much he could do about being obstructed by large piles of snow. Maybe he'd just henshin--
With the distinct lack of anything resembling background noise in the house, picking up the sounds of other people was relatively easy. It was even easier to pick up someone calling out his name. He turned around, heading back up the hallway and peeking into his room. "Ye-- whoa, the hell up with the sky?"
What was that? It definitely wasn't snow, that much was for sure. It looked like pictures he'd see from places up further north, like Sweden, Norway, Canada even-- was it an aurora? That sounded like the right word, but this certainly didn't seem like the right place.
Ignacio walked a bit closer, his steps slow and almost reverent.
"What's that doing here?"

Richard glanced over his shoulder when Ignacio came in the room, then went back to looking out the window. "I... don't know, honestly." A glance back to Ignacio again, then back to the lights in the sky outside. Well, that confirmed his hunch that this was something super unusual for the area. "I mean, it's super pretty?" He leaned his elbows on the windowsill to get a better angle on everything past the window. "I'm tempted to go outside and look at it." Key word was "tempted". At the very least, there might be other people running around the area that he might have to worry about running into, but it should be safe enough? It was just an aurora, right?
"Want to come with me?" He looked around for his sweater and a good, thick pair of socks. Maybe he should put actual pants on instead of pajama pants? He snagged a pair of those, too, and changed into them before putting on the socks and sweater. He could still use a jacket or coat, but that was downstairs in the closet by the door. Stuffing his feet into a good, warm pair of shoes, he started towards the bedroom door. "You coming?"

He was fairly sure they were far too south for an aurora, but yet, there it was, staring him in the face. An aurora.
Richard almost seemed entranced by it, looking back at him for only a moment before looking back at the aurora. Ignacio couldn't blame him -- he was also kind of just ... staring at the aurora. It was really pretty. Gorgeous, even. He had never seen anything like it in his life, and perhaps he finally understood why people spent so much time chasing the aurora down. There was nothing like it, except maybe for the aurora in the Southern Hemisphere...
Did they have an aurora?
... Anyway.
"Tempted?" teased Ignacio, knowing that wouldn't last long. He was already set for the weather, wearing a sweater and some fairly warm pants. Ignacio wanted to go check it out too, but the more his brain tumbled over the idea of there being an aurora there, the more a note of panic started to ring at the back of his head. This city wasn't normal, not by any means. It was populated by super soldiers and an evil organization bent on destroying, so far as he could tell, the entire universe. There were youma and giant spiders and whatever the hell else there was hiding under the surface.
Weird was almost never good.
"Yeah, I'm coming," Ignacio replied, leaving the bedroom once again and heading downstairs. He wasted relatively little time getting his shoes and jacket on, slipping out into the deep snow.
Well, at least it wasn't currently snowing.

Richard was glad Ignacio was following him, shoving his arms into the sleeves of his coat, wrapping a scarf around his neck. He'd always felt the cold with dismaying ease and so he also made sure to grab some gloves to put on. He was hopping to put on his sneakers over two pairs of socks as he followed Ignacio out into the snow. He didn't have that panic in the back of his head, and eagerness to see the aurora on the other side of a window was overtaking the nervousness he'd felt at the possibility of some sort of accident or something with other people around him. Buoyed instead by anticipation and the confidence that any issues could be readily dealt with, Richard used his stride to catch up with Ignacio, using the path he'd already pushed through the deep snow to cut the time it'd take him to close the distance.
When he was next to Ignacio, Richard patted his shoulder to let him know he was there and set about pulling alongside him to try and do his part forging through the snowdrifts. The aurora was turning the fresh snow all sorts of colours, and he couldn't help pausing for a moment to look at that, too. Belatedly, he wished he had his phone with him so that he could take pictures of it all. Well, if it was still going on when they went back inside, he'd take some pictures from their bedroom window. Catching back up with Ignacio, he craned his neck to look at the lights over their heads while they walked. He was sure that it would be all over the news when they power came back over the city.
Even though that seemed like an eternity away at this point.

It seemed... normal, at the moment.
Ignacio squinted.
Maybe that was the wrong word.
Normally abnormal?
Unlike Richard, Ignacio had his phone on him, and he dug it out of his coat pocket to take some pictures once they got to a place where they could stand still and have a relatively unobstructed view. It was ... beautiful, really. He hadn't ever seen anything like this in his entire life. At least, not in person. That instinctively made the panic rise, but by the same token, it also amazed him. He wished he could stay in this moment, honestly. It felt peaceful. They were surrounded by relatively fresh snow blanketing the land while the aurora sparkled in the sky.
"This is incredible."

Hearing the reverence in Ignacio's voice, Richard chuckled fondly and--after a moment--draped an arm loosely across Ignacio's shoulders. Tucking his body closer to his own, Richard looked up at the sky again. He didn't have any cause for alarm, and so he felt just as peaceful as the ambiance around them. The snow was pristine, undisturbed. The lights were throwing colour everywhere; the snow on the ground and the trees shifted from blues to greens, to an incredible range of hues. The colours even washed over them, and Richard did not fail to notice the lights reflected off of Ignacio's skin and eyes when he turned his head to look at him. He pressed a gentle kiss to the side of Ignacio's head, then looked back up at the sky.
"It really is. It almost makes up for the power outages."

Ignacio snorted. "I'm not sure if anything makes up for those damn power outages."
This came close, perhaps, but he would definitely rather have had warmth in his house and maybe less people in his house, considering that literally every person in Richard's immediate family had decided to stay at their place instead of staying in their own places. He understood. They were a bit better equipped for the cold, in general.
He didn't mind all the company, necessarily, but it had been... well, it had been a lot.
Ignacio glanced over to Richard and smiled a bit before turning back towards the aurora.
"But this is nice, I admit. You wanna just watch it for a bit?"
He honestly hoped the answer to that was a yes.

The answer was an immediate and emphatic, "Yes, of course". He kissed the side of Ignacio's head again, then another to his forehead. "I cannot honestly think of anyone I would rather watch this with. It's a nice change from the past few days with my family, you know?" Settling his weight comfortably into Ignacio's, Richard looked up at the sky. From the view in front of him to the man standing next to him, there was little else but peace and contentment for him.
