                Name - Maeztli

                Nickname - Mae

                Stage - Youngling

                Race - Hybrid

                Lineage - 1/2 Shifter 1/2 Yaeli

                Generation - Gen 1

                Preference - Unknown

                Significant Other - N/A

                Child(ren) - N/A

                Path - Beast Master

                Weapon - Whip

Description - Maeztli has the dark shifter skin of her father, as well as his crystal shape, color and location. The rest of her takes after her mother, so she has the Yaeli ears, black sclera (though her eyes don't glow) and grey iris, dark purple hair.

Her mother keeps her hair short for now since she doesn't want it to get tangled up in the jungles of Jauhar. (She doesn't seem to mind it either.)

Accessories - A golden ring pierced through the tip of her ear.

Personality - Uncoordinated - Maeztli has a habit of tripping over air if she isn't paying attention to where she is going, almost like she were an airhead. Her father jokes with her and says that if an ant hill is nearby she'll find it. While it doesn't affect her balance it wrecks havoc on her usual gait. A small rock can be enough to take her down. If she is talking with someone when this happens she will pause mind word and focus on righting herself. If it takes longer than a few seconds to do so then she sometimes forgets what she was talking about. Often this makes people think she is a daydreamer.

Sentimental - She likes to keep small trinkets from big events in her life to help remind her of them so she doesn't forget. Visiting places that are special to her is also something she enjoys doing. However, if there is no place to visit or object to hold in her hand she keeps the memories close and will often think of them. Mostly she thinks of home.

Rational - Despite her sentimental side Maeztli seems very rational. She will listen to all the facts before making a decision and unless an emotion is too overwhelming she doesn't let them control her actions. She also follows a rational way of thinking when dealing with problems so that she can figure out the best outcome. When it comes to others she can rationalize that they are they way they are because the gods wanted them that way but can also see that hey have certain flaws. (Her mother says he Lady and Lord are the only perfect beings while her father highly praises the moon for it's perfection.)

She is a very clumsy girl with a heart of gold. Maeztli believes that everyone is perfect the way they are, though she has learned that they are not always nice. It seems a contradiction to many but to her it is simply that she was not made to fit their kind of perfect. (Like a puzzle piece put in the wrong spot.) Since she is a strange kind of hybrid she doesn't judge other hybrids for how they look. (Or anyone else really.) What she enjoys is making friends but she isn't willing to waste her time if someone seems to be overly rude.

With so many things in the world going on she has learned to stay close to home and that not everyone can be trusted. Maeztli usually sticks close to family or a trusted adult. (Or friend for when she is older.) Plus she's never really been too far away from home so there is no reason for her to go too far.

Learning about the past and all the battles that had taken place, as well as the happenings now, has scared her a little. Maeztli is easily frightened by strange or loud noises as a result. Though the dark is always a welcome friend since her father taught her about the Moon and Serin. When she becomes too scared she will sometimes say the names of heros that her father told her about as though they are a ward that will keep the things that go bump in the night away. She even secretly wishes to be like them when she grows.

She wishes to travel to Yael and see the place her mother is from when she is old enough. Or with her family if they are willing to all travel together. Her Nann included. While she knows the world has more than just Jauhar and Yael she seems to have little to no interest in exploring the other territories, at least not yet.

Her mother has instilled her with a good fear of the Alkidikes, saying they are a scary people to behold and that they have barbarian ways. Her mother often likes to remind her that they now share the jungle with the warrior ladies with the strange antennae. Scary stories about the extremists were passed down to her from her mother as a warning to keep her distance from the Amazons. For good measure her mother made sure to tell her about the Dretch and how fearsome they are. Tales of their kidnappings, their strange appearances, and their brutal ways spooked her like no other. Essentially turning the Dretch and Alks into the boogie man to Maeztli. (She will run from an Alk if she's alone. If she runs into a Dretch she'll scream and run.)

━━━━━━━┈ H i s t o r y

Maeztli world started when her father, Izteli, decided to make a trip to the new island of Yael. Originally he had gone to see what treasures he could find, after all that was his job, but after spending some time there he learned that he didn't mind the natives. While they certainly had their share of superstitions he couldn't really find a fault in their logic. So he extended his stay with an unknown date for returning to his own home in the woods. A decision he came to love since it led him into the path of Muyla.

The woman was a hard one to deal with since she clearly had all the suspicions against the mainlanders and there was no hiding that Izteli was one of them. Still to his eyes the woman was beautiful. She had the deepest color of purple hair that he had ever seen. Being that Yael was full of purple haired people that was saying something! Then there were her eyes. Palest gray that glowed. It made them even more appealing to him. Like two full moons! (Yes, he was mushy like that.) In truth she was a treasure like no other.

Izteli took the time to get her to talk to him for more than a minute and when he realized that she had an intellect to go along with her looks he was drawn in even more. So the shifter worked hard to get Muyla to trust him. When he could finally stand to speak with him for hours he felt elated. Talking to her was always an experience and when he brought in little treasures she would look them over and tell him if she knew what they were. Soon he began to bring all of his finds to her so that he could learn all he could about them before selling them. Muyla actually looked forward to his little finds and seemed to light up when he brought her things.

Their relationship continued on like that for more than a year when Izteli got a letter from home. His father had taken ill and wanted to seem him one last time before he passed. It broke his heart but he told Muyla what was going on and said his goodbyes before he set out to leave Yael.

While Izteli was gone Muyla seemed to settle into a kind of depression. She had no treasures to look at. No one to talk to for hours on end. Somehow the shifter had become such an integral part of her day without her even realizing it. Now she didn't think she would ever see him again. The fact made her lose her smile and soon after she became disinterested in interacting with others. Her father noticed the change and brought it up to her but received only a sharp retort for his efforts. When more than half a year went by and Muyla didn't seem to be getting better her father made plans for a trip. They knew the village that Izteli lived in and he fully intended to take his daughter there to see him. He hoped that the shifter would be able to put the smile back on Muyla's face.

The trip took them many months but they did make it in once piece. Finding Izteli's house was something different altogether though. Apparently the shifter people lived IN the trees. Still, once they found it Muyla seemed to have a little bit more of a bounce in her step. The Yaeli woman knocked on the door, expecting to greet either an elderly woman or Izteli himself. What she got was something entirely different. Muyla came face to face with a young, gorgeous shifter woman. Without bothering to find out what was what she assumed Izteli had moved on and left. Her father, on the other hand, stayed to speak with Izteli. Between the two of them they figured out the misunderstanding, after Izteli got over the shock of knowing that they had come all this way to see him.

So Izteli went after Muyla to explain the situation. It had been Izteli's younger sister who had answered the door since their mother was bed ridden after losing his father and he had been busy with preparing trout for their meal. Since his younger sister had never moved out of the house she had a room there still and now that he was back he lived with them. (Which meant that the store room had had to be emptied.) Muyla expressed her embarrassment at assuming the worst of him but then told him about how he had wiggled his way into her life and her heart without her ever knowing. She confessed that when he left she fell into a state of unhappiness and wished to have him near. Izteli was overjoyed to hear and told her that he too had been unhappy and had been counting the days until he could return.

With the two in agreement they decided to join together as a couple and take care of Izteli's mother. It also meant that Muyla was introduced to his sister, Iztalia. Muyla's father also stayed with them, since soon after their arrival people seemed to be disappearing and he didn't want to travel alone. With everything happening around them Izteli and Muyla managed to find time to themselves and one thing led to another which resulted in Muyla finding out she was with child.

She worried about the baby since she didn't know what would happen to a hybrid (since none were around when she was on Yael), but Izteli told her not to worry herself. Muyla made Iztalia and her mother happy with the news and even her own father was pleased to know that he would soon have a grandchild. Then the news of the Dretch returning hit the village and Muyla learned of the strange creatures. It scared her to no end, stressing her out since she fussed and worried about her baby being taken by the bug mages, which resulted in an early birth. Everyone worried that the child wouldn't make it but when the first cry came, and what a cry it was, everyone seemed relieved. Muyla instantly hugged her baby close and wouldn't let anyone else hold her.

Izteli was the one to name her since Muyla feared giving the child a name would invite the strange bug mages to take her. A superstition that she cooked up on her own. So the baby girl became known as... Maeztli.

The new parents agreed that staying in Jauhar was in the best interest of their family since they could raise their daughter in a loving environment. On top of that Muyla didn't want to leave her mother-in-law without the help. And the thought of meeting a Dretch out on the road didn't leave too good a taste in her mouth either.

As a baby she was hardly set down. If it wasn't her mother holding her then it was her paternal grandmother or aunt. In rare moments her maternal grandfather got to spoil her. Her father hardly got a chance since the women all hogged the chances they could and he wanted Maeztli to spend time with her grandfather. Though he was always lurking nearby. When her mother held her he was looking over her shoulder and playing with little Mae. During the night her parents kept her in a small basket placed between them to make sure no harm could come to her. Though as time passed the basket was moved to the side of the bed. (Sides varied night by night.)

When her toddler years started she was able to spend time "alone." Or rather, she was allowed to walk around on her own but under the close eye of her female family members. If her mother wasn't close on her heels then her aunt was. In the few times she had tried to make a break for the door, with innocent curiosity, she was scooped up by her dad and tickled as punishment. It wasn't until she was four or five that she was able to move around without being followed, though she did have to stay within sight of her family. A rule she was perfectly alright with since she liked to show off her dance moves or things she found or made.

When it came to playing with other kids, Maeztli usually played with her neighbors Aernd and Holluta. They were both hybrid kids, slightly older than her, but were a far more common mix. She got to play with them when their mothers brought them over to visit or when her mother took her over. Usually they played with dolls or a game of tag. She never seemed to have a problem with them nor did they with her. Although Aernd did find her ears to be kinda funny.

Holluta had an older sibling, a brother named Drien, who was a pure shifter that Mae got to see from time to time. He usually stayed away from the younger ones but never treated them badly. Of course he didn't defend them from the teasing of others either since he wasn't happy about his own parents' separation and his mother's relationship with a foreigner.

Maeztli got the news that she was to be a big sister when she turned five years old! Since she loved playing with dolls she was excited to see her younger sibling! As her mother's tummy grew she asked over and over again if she could take care of the baby. She was told that when she was a little older she could. So when her brother was born she scrunched her nose and said - quietly - to him, "Mommy said I can't take care of you yet, but I can keep bad things away!" Mae is an eager helper when it comes to getting things that her parents might need to make her little brother happy. (To get him to stop crying.) Her parents have even caught her sleeping in the crib with her brother. Maeztli had heard him making noise in the night and didn't want him to start screaming so she climbed in and cuddled with him to get him to go back to sleep.

━━━━━━━┈ Tribe Info

                Shifter

The Shifters comprise a small, rudimentary tribe dwelling in the heart of Tendaji’s rainforest. Like other Earthlings, they stand much shorter than the Alkidike. They possess long, rounded ears and their slim bodies are speckled with blue crystals. The length and style of their hair is dependent primarily upon their trade and rank within the tribe.

This race’s most distinguishing trait lies within their skin and eyes. Both features change from light to dark with the rising of the sun, and back to light in the evening, to match the silvery shades of the moon.

Personality-wise, they are across the board, although each individual’s disposition tends to coordinate with whether they are more nocturnal or diurnal. Their temperament, thus, greatly contributes to the form in which they are most commonly seen. (Those who are more introverted will have silver skin in their art and those who are more extroverted will have dark skin in their art).

The Shifer Tribe shares Jauhar, their rain forest home, with the Alkidikes. Because of the war-like nature of their opposing female rivals, however, they tend to do what they can to stay out of the way and to remain unseen. They live predominantly in the upper canopy where food can be found in greater abundance, creating strange nests and hammock-like homes from the thousands of thick, dark green vines that twist between the trees. This diverse tribe prefers an elevated position where they can still observe the movements of the sun and moon.

Religion The Shifters worship and revere the moon, whom they refer to as the goddess Serin. Their true connection to the moon has been disputed for as long as anyone can remember. They do not call it their creator. All they know is that, when the moon comes out, their skin turns silver. Clearly, they must be connected in some way.

Shifters believe in the existence of lesser gods (i.e. of rain, of tides, of forests, etc.), but the names of these lesser deities vary and are often quite personal to individuals. The earthlings recognize that others may call these same deities by different names, and accept them as the same gods with different tiles.

Government The Shifters live within a pretty rudimentary, tribal system. They have Elders who may be called together in severe cases, where guidance is needed. However, most transgressions are left for family groups or individuals to work out. Those who possess higher ranks are expected to mentor and help the upcoming Younglings and Prentices. There is an understanding that everyone must work together, to some degree, for the betterment of the tribe and their survival.

                List of Physical Traits

                || Short, pointed ears
                || Clothes are typically tans and dull oranges with blue and white accents and colorful accessories
                || Earthlings stand much smaller than the humans of the past. (average height: 4' - 5'6" )

                -----------------------

                Yaeli

The island of Yael is home to the yaeli earthlings, a surprisingly odd race of earthlings that have evolved over time to suit their surrounding. Yael was once the destination of those cast off in exile from the mainland of Tendaji. The outcasts, the hybrids, the criminals, and the mentally unwell were shipped off to the coast of Yael, left to either figure out a way to survive, or die off. After hundreds of years, the island was forgotten, and the mix of races on Yael merged and melded into one: the Yaeli. This group shares genetic material from seemingly all races of earthlings of Tendaji. Though the island has long since flourished and the genetic blend has taken on its own set of racial markers.

The skin of the Yaeli takes on dull olive tones, often tanning or freckling from the harsh sun and hot weather. The chemicals and pollution permanently rooted in the soil and ground underfoot has turned their crystals and sclera a dark, deep black. The Yaeli's hair is purple tones of all shades, and their crystals tend to form on their stomachs predominantly, but can be found anywhere on their bodies.

Their eyes are a light gray color, and oddly enough, the chemicals in the soil has caused the Yaeli's irises to glow. The same chemicals also tend to leave the Yaeli with bad eyesight, sometimes from birth. Those that leave the island - and consequently change their diet - lose their glow, though it doesn't seem to return even after some time back on the island.

Their access to dyes and coloring for their clothes leave them with a dull color palette, containing many different hues, but no vibrancy in their clothing. The people of Yael wrap themselves in loose airy clothing, as an attempt to keep the heat and humidity away.

Once cast off from the mainland, the Yaeli over time have developed a phobia of the mainlanders, fearing their evils, and effectually creating a boogeyman vibe concerning the rest of Tendaji.

Religion The yaeli believe in only two dieties: the Goddess and the God. Lurin is the God of the Land of the Remembered, a place where those who have died have living relatives to carry on their names and celebrate their life. Dafiel is the Goddess of the Land of the Forgotten, where souls come under the watch of their Mother when there is no longer anyone to mourn for them.
Lurin The male God, God of the Land of the Remembered, often depicted as the light side of the deities
Dafiel The female Goddess, Goddess of the Land of the Forgotten often depicted as the darker side of the deities

The Yaeli are also incredibly superstitious in nature. They believe that if bad things are happening to them that the gods are displeased, and if something bad is happening to an individual that they have been hexed or there is someone out there sending them bad juju out of jealousy or anger. They believe in cleansing their houses of bad spirits and getting their children blessed at the Sanctum to protect them from the dead. Their list of superstitions can get pretty lengthy.

Government The Yaeli have developed a government ruled by their religious leaders. The Sanctum (their official estate) holds a hierarchy of priests and priestesses, with a male High Priest and female High Priestess as their leaders. The High Priest and Priestess are the mortal voice of the two deities and are only replaced when they age and retire. Young children are often chosen from the villages for showing some sign of being "touched" by the two gods and are pulled into the Sanctum for the beginning of their training as priests and priestesses, though only one boy and one girl are chosen to replace the High Priest/Priestess when the time comes. Some of the children do not make it to the end of their training and assume positions of small religious governing under the lesser priests/priestesses creating something resembling a council.

Priest/priestess is not available as a class track for the Yaeli. Only special event/auction characters will be offered much like the Alkidike Mystics.
