Quote: Being bitten by a giant spider is uncomfortable enough, but worse than the sharp pain you feel on impact are the linger effects of the bite. Being bitten can cause nausea, dizziness, fatigue and hallucinations. These symptoms can begin immediately after being bitten or can manifest up to a few hours after the toxins are introduced to the bloodstream. These symptoms may only last for a few hours—or up to 72 hours. You, or someone you know, has the misfortune of being bitten; no medicine seems to help this ailment, so you’re stuck weathering this one out on your own. Earlier in the month, a giant bat had appeared to attack Kit on his way home with groceries. It had been like last year was sending him a memento from the previous year's Fall Festival which might have simultaneously served as an omen for perils to come. As if that hadn't been enough warning, the very same Destiny City Botanical Gardens that had hosted the event with the attacking poinsettias had invited everyone to a new event.
As might have been expected, it, too, turned out to deviate horribly from what had been announced. The giant spiders might have been considered more appropriate with the terror, fear, and panic they caused due to the nature of Halloween, but they were still a very real danger to everyone. Most people seemed to have gotten through the garden's maze event relatively safely, though. There had been injuries, of course, but at least there hadn't seemed to be any permanent damage.
However, as fate would have it, the spiders hadn't been finished. Ptolemaeus encountered a few of them one night while gathering energy and had attempted to hold them back from cars and people in a supermarket parking lot. Unfortunately, there was only so much he could do. As a super senshi, he had magic, but as with his basic senshi attacks, they weren't anything he could use on his own. His magic required another's to take effect and the monstrous arachnids had no such thing; just webbing, their piercing legs, snapping mandibles, and acidic saliva.
He tried to be resourceful and brought out his pair of mirror shards in order to summon a couple of mirrorwraiths. The wraiths might not have been able to drain enough energy from three enormous spiders to deter them before getting full, but it was his hope that they might have at least caused something of a distraction. It worked for a little bit regarding two of his opponents, but the third would not divert its attention from him. Ptolemy kicked out a sandaled foot to take the offensive, but he instantly realized his mistake. His shin was caught by the creature before he could make contact. Foaming and dripping its frothy spit, it sunk its mandibles into his leg.
The Dark Mirror Senshi cried out in agony as the frothing saliva burned his clothes and irritated his skin while it was broken. Worse than the piercing of his limb, though, were the toxins that were immediately injected into his bloodstream. Suddenly, the teen felt sick to his stomach and his surroundings seemed to spin. He swayed, feeling the energy drain from him at a remarkable rate, and dropped to his knees. What luck, he thought with a grim amusement at the irony. I manage to avoid getting bitten by that bat only to have to deal with a spider bite instead. At least he wouldn't have to suffer the 'Vampire Sickness', he supposed, but fear soon dissolved his vague optimism. The spider bite might have contained venom that was a great deal more potent. Perhaps he wouldn't even be able to find out if he was devoured then and there.

The events that went down at the Garden event was all over the news, some people saying it was just some horrible hallucinogen that caused everyone to freak out, and others saying it was a science experiment gone wrong. Whatever it was, Chara was one hundred percent glad he had not gone. After all, he needed the money and decided to work instead, and probably pushed out a hundred pizzas that night with all the parties going on. Honestly, he really didn’t have much strength left to party after that anyway and only went home to flop on his bed and get some hard earned sleep.
And yet just knowing that there was always some crazy s**t going down in Destiny City during the holidays kept him from sleeping. No matter how much he hated people sometimes, he couldn’t just leave those ******** out there defenseless while he slept. With a groan, he pushed off his bed and went to go patrol, powering up as soon as he knew he was alone for a while.
It took no time at all for a chaos aura to show up on the radar in his mind and he scoffed, wondering just who the ******** was out and about after hearing giant ‘spiders’ crawling about. Then again, he was out there as well so he really couldn’t say anything.
Following the aura led him to a rooftop where he looked down to see just who got caught… And… s**t… s**t it was Ptolemaeus! Why the ******** would he bother to fight these things!
“GET LOST YOU EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS!” Painful snapping chocolates rained down from a nearby rooftop, causing this hissing spiders to hop back. A split second later, one found itself dead as Chara crushed its head under his heel after jumping down ontop of it. After Chara jumped off of it, he twisted on his heel to grab the other spider that had its fangs dug into Ptolemaeus’ thigh, pulling it out as gently as he could, before pulling its head straight off of its body and hurling it at the other spiders.
The spiders hissed, almost horrified by the display of violence and grabbed their fallen comrades, dragging them away much like they had done at the Botanical Garden’s event. The chocolate senshi had half a mind to chase them down and crush them all under his boot, but doing so would have taken away from any chance that Ptolemaeus could be helped, not that he knew if the man was actually going to fall victim to poisoning. It actually took a few moments before he felt safe enough to turn around and check on the man on the ground…
s**t, he didn’t look very good.
“Hey… Hey, Ptolemy, are you alright?” Kneeling down beside the man, he tried to see if there was any blood coming from the bite. So far there was a little bit, but more worrisome was the bit of yellow ooze that was coming out… “s**t… That looks bad… I can take you to a hospital or something and you can power down nearby and go in… Or… s**t I don’t know what poison those ******** had… If I knew I could take you somewhere for an antivenom.. s**t, s**t s**t…”

“Kiss...Kisses?” the Dark Mirror Senshi mumbled, his countenance shining with perspiration. He tried to sit up from where he had fallen, but the motion of the attempt immediately triggered a wave of nausea. He clapped a hand over his mouth and wrapped an arm about his stomach, waiting for the sensation to subside somewhat. When he was able, he removed his hand from his mouth and propped himself up on an arm as he tried to get a grip on his surroundings. “Feeling dizzy,” he murmured, putting his free hand to his head. Combing his fingers through his locks, he pushed back his hood as he attempted to take slow, deep breaths.
“Thank you,” the male scout managed once he was able. “Sorry, I should have...that was stupid…” he mumbled, wondering if what he was feeling suggested an onset of delirium. Ptolemy tried to get a look at his leg, but the sight just made him feel sick again and when he tried to turn away, everything seemed to spin and wouldn’t stop. Breathing hard, he supported himself on all fours, head bent as he tried to get a grip on himself and his situation. When he tried to close his eyes, the dizziness just got worse, so he immediately opened them again.
He processed the mention of a hospital and was about to try shaking his head but instantly ceased with a soft groan. “No...I’ll be fine,” he insisted. “I just need to wait it out.” The thought of numerous strangers hovering about him without understanding what was wrong did not bring him comfort. In addition, as a college student with loans and rent to pay, he would have liked to avoid a medical bill if at all possible. After having sustained and survived a good deal of damage simply performing his duties as a powered being, he was confident he would manage to pull through eventually. The trick would be enduring the venom’s symptoms in the meantime.
“C-can we...go somewhere quiet?” he labored to ask, raising his head to locate Chara with unfocused eyes. “Somewhere still. Everything’s moving…”

"Yeah, it's me... It's your Kisses..." The way Ptolemy stumbled, falling on his knees and just... Damn, it broke his heart in a way he hadn't felt since Oberon had been bit by that goddamn bear at the hospital. He didn't dare draw near until the other had stabilized, not wanting to somehow agitate the situation further by accident.
The moment he was asked to do so, he came in close and did his best to gently scoop the other up, incredibly thankful for the strength that being powered allowed him to have... Had he just been Benji, he knew he would have been useless to help.
"I know somewhere safe.. Just... Just hold on, alright..?" Instead of the normal jumping and leaping he did to travel, he took his time, rushing, but trying to be as smooth as he could so as to not shake up the already green-looking Senshi in his arms. Where he headed was a church, recently burned, but still intact, all things considered.. He had met another Dark Mirror Senshi here not too long ago, and while they weren't exactly best of friends after that, it was a pleasant enough meeting, and the church was always a safe place for Chara.
With his foot, he pushed open one of the doors, closing it again the same way and moved to lay Ptolemy down on one of the slightly charred pews.
"Are you sure I can't help any other way...?" He asked softly, kneeling down beside where the other was to get a better look at his leg. "I can go and get some medicine atleast... That could help... I-I just... You can't die like this..."

A faint whine escaped the older teen when Chara lifted him, the motion agitating his nausea, but he knew there was no other option unless he wanted to simply lie there in the parking lot for who knew how long. Since shutting his eyes made him feel sicker, he settled for closing them only halfway, but the world began to swim in his vision. He would have preferred to simply lean on Chara rather than be carried, but limping along on just one good leg would have jarred him more than he thought he would have been able to handle just then.
“Thank you,” he whispered at the other senshi’s assurance, feeling fatigued due to the venom, his wound, and his efforts to keep from upheaving the contents of his stomach. It might have been nice if he could just slip out of consciousness for a bit, but the disorientation of the darkness behind his eyelids made him averse to attempting to sleep.
Soon they seemed to have reached their destination because Ptolemy felt himself being set down, but then he heard Chara’s plaintive voice and struggled to comprehend his words. The word ‘die’ registered the most clearly. Ptolemaeus gave a genuine, if frail, laugh.
“It’s...it’s gonna be just fine, sweetheart,” he assured faintly, feeling for the other teen in the dark to soothe him. “It’d take more than this to kill me. You know that.” Lying on his back, he smirked up at the ceiling, focusing on the pain in his leg to distract him from his dizziness. Odd how he could know he was stationary and still have motion sickness. Along with his body’s sensations, he was starting to doubt his sight. Was it really Chara who had brought him here? He sounded so scared. He wasn’t acting like Chara usually did.

While normally Chara would have felt himself bristle up over being called sweetheart, he let it slide this time. There were far more worrying things to focus on, like how frail Ptolemaeus sounded. As the moments ticked by, fear began to take hold tighter and tighter in the Chocolate Senshi's gut.
"Yeah, maybe not, but contrary to what you might think, I still worry..." Chara pushed back the other's hood, running his hand through the other's hair in a way he hoped was comforting. Taking care of people wasn't his forte, and his little bit of expertise in first aid didn't include poison, so this was all he could do for now.
"This... This ******** sucks... I can't even take you home.. Are you sure I can't get you anything?"

"Mmm...you don't need to get anything," he murmured, attempting to distract himself from his disorientation by concentrating on the blissful sensation of the hand through his hair. To Ptolemy, the contact was a direct message of affection and he craved more of it. "Just stay here with me."
Weak though he was, the Dark Mirror Senshi reached up to try to catch Chara's hand so he could brush his face against it. After a minute or two, he slowly eased himself on to his side and feebly made an effort to pull the white-and-brown-haired young man closer to him. "I'm dizzy. Need something still and steady to hold on to," he explained with a coy smile.

Why in the world was this happening?! What the ******** had Chara done to deserve any of this strange and suspicious situations he found himself in? Every bit of sense in him told him to pull away from Ptolemy, given that their agreement hadn't been fulfilled yet... there were still two months before they were supposed to do anything else.. Of course fate would never be so kind..
Now here he was, one of the men he loved leaning into his touch and finding comfort there. That didn't seem to happen all that often, as it was normally Chara who craved for it. And he would be a hypocrite to try to deny the Dark Mirror Senshi it, so he gave in.
"Alright... Just... Don't barf on me, okay? I'll kick your a** if you do." Ever so gently he shifted the man, finding just enough room to squeezein beside him on the church pew, laying next to him and pulling him close. "I'm right here, okay? Hold on to me for as long as it takes to get steady."

The older teen chuckled quietly at Chara's response, wrapping his arms about him and holding him as tight as his reduced strength allowed. "You'd kick my a** even if I didn't, wouldn't you? Only reason you haven't is because those spiders did it first."
Rubbing the shorter senshi's arm in slow, gentle motions, Ptolemy kissed the top of his head. "You're so brave," he muttered against the other's curls. "Foolishly so. Still, it's admirable. And you can feel so strongly." His fond smile broadened and he nuzzled his face deeper into the forest of white and brown. "I envy your passion."
Lifting one leg, he slyly slipped it over the other sailor scout's, embracing him with all his available limbs like a monkey clinging to a branch.

Ptolemy was making it hard to stay calm with each of his touches. Being sick, Chara felt bad for thinking of shoving the other away in this state. How cruel would it be to leave him when he was in pain..?
So, he stayed there, feeling the other's weak grasp about him, and returned it gently.
"Hey, you can't say that, I didn't kick your a** last time, now did I?" Of course that damned blush came back at the touches on his arm and the kisses on his head. He was such a sucker for praise too, but...
"Calm yourself down, jerk, you're sick.... Tell this all to me when you're not off you're rocker..." They were closer than they had been in months, and... Well there were certain things Chara found himself remembering that he rather not. His fingers grabbed at the soft fabric of Ptolemy's uniform, a soft whimper leaving his throat as he felt the leg wrap around him too. "A-Are you seriously doing this right now?! You're hurt!"

“Aren’t you the one who isn’t calm?” the taller teen teased, snickering. He eased up when he heard Chara whimper and stroked his head, kissing it again. “I’m sorry. I know you don’t like me clinging to you, but it’s just been a long time since I’ve been able to be so close to you.”
In the darkness, it was hard to make out much of anything, but Ptolemaeus’ eyes stared vacantly ahead, not really seeing the dilapidated church walls before him. “I've worried about you while we've been apart. But it's been pointless because you don't need me anymore, do you?” he asked after a time.
He threaded his fingers through Chara’s hair a little while longer before speaking up again. Talking seemed to keep his mind off of his nausea. "I'm glad I at least got to see you one more time before I have to go, Ty."

Chara raised his eyebrow at the comment about holding one another... Honestly, it didn't seem so long ago that they had been in each other's arms, clinging to one another as if they would never see each other again, like fate would be so kind. Maybe the other was hallucinating... He had heard from others that those spiders had caused terrible side effects when bitten... But then who could he have been talking about?
As Ptolemaeus began to ramble on more and more, Chara only listened, gaze turned up to see the other's eyes, who certainly weren't focused on him. Who was he to interrupt what he saw...? Maybe, just maybe, this way he could learn more about the man behind the uniform....
"I don't know if I don't need you... But... I miss you. And since I miss you, you can't leave just yet. You have to keep coming back. It's been too long, and maybe I don't need you, maybe you need me?" Whatever he had between this 'Ty' person, didn't seem romantic. Hands weren't roaming, and honestly, the kisses felt more chaste than he noticed before. Maybe a long lost friend? A sibling? Something along those lines... He would dig a little bit more.. Just a bit, to learn something else about the Senshi he claimed he loved.
"... Why did you disappear...?"

Ptolemy’s breathing slowed and he exhaled deeply. He still fell dizzy, but the exhaustion caused by the venom was beginning to overwhelm him so that he was more and more tempted to close his eyes. He rubbed Chara’s back, though it was difficult to say if he was doing so more out of an effort to comfort Chara or himself. Perhaps both.
He licked his lips to wet them before speaking. “We didn’t want to worry you about it before, but I guess it doesn’t matter so much now. After you almost died, our parents and I argued about what to do with you. I thought you needed a change of pace; a new perspective. I wanted you to move out and live with me. Our parents, though, wanted to keep a closer eye on you. They also thought I might have been being a bad influence on you by encouraging your imagination.” The taller senshi gave a slight twitch of his shoulders.
“As our parents, they figured they knew best, so I really had no say. I left so I could become independent and eventually be self-sustaining enough to invite you to come live with me. Our parents didn’t stop me because I was of legal age to live on my own, but also because they thought you would fare better without my influence.” His smile then was pained. “I missed you. But I figured you’d be able to find me if you wanted to when you were ready.”
Ptolemy gave the shorter teen in his arms another quick squeeze, as if to verify he was still there. “You know...I think you’re right, Ty. I do need you. Without you, I’m just an unfeeling monster. I can care about other people, but not enough. It’s never enough.” He adjusted his grip on the senshi he held and curled his fingers into the fabric of his clothing as he clutched it. “I’m too numb. But I guess I’ll have to get used to it because I’m leaving soon and this time I’m going somewhere you won’t be able to find.”

So it was a sibling... It made sense, he supposed... But it was still hard to listen to, that weird longing in and pain in his voice and expression seemed so different compared to whatever bit of vulnerability he allowed himself to show Chara.
What was meant by the imagination issue, there was no telling, so he could only lay there in Ptolemaeus' arms, fingers running soft circles against the fabric of the other man's uniform. And when he was done, he took another few moments to remain quiet, figuring out the best way to continue the farce he had put on so far.
"... You don't have to leave you know.." The leaving part that Ptolemy mentioned must have been about the purification... When he did that, anything he had, he would have left it behind... "I don't... I really don't think the people who love you want you to give up any chance of feeling whole again for selfish reasons... I don't know what you promised someone that would make you leave, but you can't go just yet... Not until you can learn to feel right again on your own. You helped me... So Now I gotta help you, right? And I can't always find you, parents and all that... So come find me again. I know I'll be so happy to see you, beyond this fever dream."
There... Maybe that would be enough to encourage the Dark Mirror to finally relax and sleep... And hopefully it wouldn't give away the fact that it was Chara here, using this moment to try to pry and learn more things that he probably shouldn't have...
"You really should sleep now... Can't have you dyin' on me before I can see you again..."

Ptolemy continued to wrap himself about Chara as if to cover as much surface area as possible. Ducking his head, he buried it against the White Moon Senshi’s neck and giggled deliriously. “Mmm...why do you smell like chocolate? You hate that stuff…” he yawned while the one-eyed sailor scout was silent. It didn’t seem he actually expected an answer, however, as his eyelids began to drop.
“No. I have to,” he mumbled into the white-and-brown-haired teen’s shoulder. “There’s his guy. He reminds me a lot of you.” Dark brows furrowed. “I noticed from the moment I saw him that he was in pain. So much pain, Ty. You know what that’s like.
“I don’t think he’s ready to die, firecracker that he is...but you never know when that stubborn spark is going to flare out.” He shook his head slightly, rubbing his forehead against Chara’s collarbone. “I don’t know if I can help him, being what I am, but...I can’t just abandon him.” Lips met the smaller senshi’s ear. “I was there for you for most of our lives, just like you’ve been there for me. It’s his turn, now.”
Ptolemy yawned again and for a moment appeared vaguely puzzled. “...’Fever dream’…? But you’re right here. I can feel you.” He held on to Chara as if it would be his last chance before he lost him forever. “I’ve wanted to come see you for years, you know? But with school, work, and those I have to keep an eye on here, I can’t. Besides...it’s probably better if you forget about me from here on out.”
His ever-present smile had become melancholic as he finally closed his eyes completely. “Yeah...think I will. Just...please stay until I fall asleep.” His hand sought the other’s to affectionately interlace their fingers.
