One evening on patrol, Super Sailor Ptolemaeus sensed a rarely-felt but familiar presence. It was the energy signature of one of his own - chaotic, but not the chaos of the Negaverse. Surprised at this, he homed in on it, wondering if it was someone he knew. It had been a while since he had met any other Dark Mirror Senshi.

In fact, the last time he had done so was during the gathering in Mirrorspace before he had gained the title of 'Super'. As it turned out, the signature belonged to a member of the court whom he had met on that previous occasion. Eternal Sailor Acubens, if memory served him correctly.

She had seemed very warm and friendly, and even if Ptolemy had been the type to have qualms about going up to a mere acquaintance, Acubens wouldn't have concerned him one bit. He approached her without hesitation, calling out with a cheerful greeting and a wave.

"If it isn't the Senshi of Velociraptors!" Ptolemy laughed. "Glad I got to run into you again. I've been meaning to ask you more about that book you said you were writing, but I've been busy and haven't had the chance to try to hunt you down." He slipped out his compact mirror meant for communication. "Still haven't quite worked out how to use these properly yet. Would you be able to help me out with that?"

Acubens tracked the energy signal, secretly fearing that it might have been Laverna here to fire more shots at her. Not that it really mattered... if the fairly interesting albeit irritating senshi wanted to try and pick a fight with her, let her. The only thing Acubens could do at that point was take it and respond with kindness and patience...

However, as luck would have it, a friendlier voice called out to her. Acubens, visibly relieved, turned around, jewel in hand, and beamed back in greeting. Ptolemaeus had somehow remained positive and warm even in the stress of mirrorspace's seeming sabotage on them all, and Acubens had been grateful for that. Even when her patience had run thin, he had been smiling and encouraging. Which only made her shame at her behavior deeper... between her snapping and how she and wrongly pushed Crocus and Kiuchi... she was lucky that he still wanted to talk to her...

"Well fancy meeting you around these parts," she chirped back, shoving the jewel into the bag at her side. "Come here often?"

And the mention of her book, Acubens produced and offered it out to him.

"I'll trade you," she said with a grin, taking hold of his compact in exchange for his compact. "I agree, these things are kind of bullshit. In the white moon we used to use cellphones... that's the one thing I can say about that faction -- they has easy to use tech. As for these, you just kind of... concentrate on the person that you want to talk to and just... focus on that? It's hard to explain, but here, try it on me." She handed his compact back to him and pulled out her own.

"Concentrate on me and my compact should start notifying me."

"Here? Nah; as the senshi of change, I consider it a part of my duty to regularly change up my routine routes. Gives me a chance to meet new people, too." Dark eyes followed the jewel as Acubens thrust it into her bag and Ptolemy recalled that he had obtained one of those, too. Had she perhaps figured out what they were for? Or had she been trying to do so when he'd come along? "I hope I didn't interrupt anything."

His brows shot up when the eternal produced the book almost instantly. "Whoa - you come prepared, don't you?" Ptolemy eagerly exchanged his mirror for the volume and began to page through it. Something the curly-haired senshi said caused him to look up again, however. "'We'?" he repeated. "Were you part of the White Moon Court before?" He didn't think he'd heard her mention that before, but then again, he hadn't gotten to learn all that much about her in the short time they'd had to converse prior.

"Hmm...at least the more primitive the tech, the easier it seems to be to understand or use." Smirking, he took the compact back when she handed it over. "Concentrate, huh? I think I can manage that." Gazing into his mirror, he pictured Acubens in his mind and focused on his desire to communicate with her.

"And the more primitive the tech, the harder it is ti hack," Acubens affirmed, holding up her compact. Though it did not move, a phantom vibration shimmered down Acubens' arm. She opened it, ceasing the sensation, and then snapped it shut. "So simple they'll never see it coming."

And then the question.

Ah, she had said "we" hadn't she? Damn it. Acubens pulled at the hair around her shoulders and cast her gaze around, showing shame for the first time in a long while. Oh, how did she go about answering this question? With Kiuchi, he had needed to know, so she told him, no problem. Same with Talitha. This was... well this was different. This was simple curiosity. Nothing wrong with it, it was just... a different situation. Maybe she should just... start at the beginning.

"Yeah, I... I used to be White Moon. It's... well it was kind of a s**t show." What were the words? "Mine was not an easy birth, Ptolemy." Too flowery, pull it back. "I was awakened by a cat with no sympathy for the fact that my life had just fundamentally shifted. No other senshi in sight to take my hand and lead me. I didn't find a mentor until much later, and even then it seemed to be her and I against the whole faction. I never felt at home in the White Moon. Never felt welcome. Hell, even my fuku burned. It was... all in my head but, nevertheless, I never felt truly at home as... me... until I came home." There was more than that but... she ignored the flapping of pitch black wings behind her and the wicked cackling carried on the winds like an omen. She let her former self rest in her empty grave and allowed her brother and parents their quiet grief. That was all a story for later.

"My time there was not a happy one."

The lower-ranking senshi watched with interest as Acubens demonstrated how the compact mirrors signaled their owners that someone was trying to contact them. "Very nice," he commented, smiling at the simplicity of it. Said smile faltered, however, when he noticed the curly-haired woman's abrupt change in demeanor. Whoops...should he not have asked that?

"Sorry, didn't mean to touch on a sore subject," he apologized, but before he could assure her that she didn't have to explain herself, she confessed her story. Ptolemy listened with an impassive expression, silent with an occasional nod or sound of acknowledgement. He grew curious about what she meant by her life having 'fundamentally shifted' as well as the identity of the mentor she eventually found, but didn't dare interrupt. Nor did he think it was his place to pry, especially since he had already seemed to have unintentionally done so by inquiring about her previous faction.

"I'm sorry to hear that," he said once she was finished. "But I'm glad you found the Dark Mirror Court." The teen glanced down at her book, passing a hand over the cover before readopting his easygoing smile. "I feel at home here, too."

Holding up the volume, Ptolemy asked, "So you carry this around with you everywhere? What do you put in it?" Reaching into his pocket, he brought out his own crystal from their joint venture into Mirrorspace. His felt like it was covered with a thin layer of cool condensation and was pale blue. "Stuff like research about these things?"

"It's an old scar," she reassured him, reaching out to gently touch his elbow. "But old scars sometimes have phantom aches. It's not your fault." And while his sympathy was kind and welcome, Acubens was nevertheless happy for the change of subject. Her easy smile returned, crinkling the edges of her eyes with the force of it. Taking back her journal she opened it to a random page. Sketches of her own jewel adorned the pages as well as some bulletted notes of how what she had tried to do "wake it up" in some way and use it.

"I write down everything," she said simply, showing him the worn pages. "Everything that I can see. I want to make sure what happened to me in the White Moon never happens to anyone here. I want to gather as much information as I possibly can and make it as accessible as possible. For right now, these will have to do." There was excitement cresting in her voice, a purpose that she had not known before she began that she was capable of feeling. And yet here she was, practically bouncing on the balls of her feet with the sensation of finally having found... a calling. But she had to keep that in check. Quietly, Acubens cleared her throat and pushed the feeling back down into her gut, unwilling or unwanting to scare away this new senshi the same way she had frightened Scylla. Or perhaps the word for that interaction was... pissed off. Yeah, she'd royally pissed off that senshi with her passion.

"I don't want anyone to go through what I went through with the White Moon. All the wondering and wandering. And whenever I asked questions I was scorned for not knowing automatically. I want everyone who comes to our court, by awakening or corruption, to know what we do. Why we do it. And when and how we came about." Her voice trembled but remained even, though her smile belied her attempts at a calm demeanor. "I was this to be... a place with purpose and drive. Remarque wants us to get to space, and I want to make sure everyone knows that." She fell silent for a moment, flipping the journal closed and then dismissing it to subspace where it stayed most of the time. When she finally did speak, her voice was soft and reflective.

"I want this to be a home. Where people belong and feel safe. And to make that happen, they have to have information available to them. Everything that happened before... everything that has happened since. I want to document it."
