Castiel arrived at Kai's house. It was a path he had taken many times before now, one that was familiar and comforting to him. Yet, today, his stomach was in knots. Today was the day the fallen would introduce his boyfriend to his family ... not just as his friend, but as his actual boyfriend. The poor boy was a ball of nerves, plopping himself down on the steps leading to Kai's place and folded his wings in tightly. His hands fumbled around in his pocket for his phone as he texted Kai to come outside.
It was unusual for Castiel to not simply knock on the door, but the boy could hardly bring himself to not reschedule the whole ordeal. Why, why ... why did I think this was a good idea?

For once in his life, Kai was one hundred percent ready before he needed to be, but he couldn't be proud of the moment; instead, he was anxious and trying not to throw up. "It's just his family, relax!" Kai stared himself in the eyes through his bathroom mirror. When his phone went off he visibly jumped, wings flying out in reaction as his hand shot to his chest. He needed to relax, Castiel would be there beside him and it would all work out. It always worked out when they were together. Finally the fallen exhaled and checked his phone. He looked in the mirror one last time, slapped his cheeks to snap out of the funk, and left to the door to meet his boyfriend.
As he made his way to the door Kai turned everything off. All he needed was his phone, which was in his hand, so he left and locked the door behind him. "Cas? Why'd you text? How'd you know I'd even be ready?" He asked as he turned to hopefully see the fallen in question.

Fingers lazily circled a random spot on the boy's knee as he sat hunched, waiting for Kai to either respond to his text, or to simply appear from behind the closed door. When he heard the deadbolt unlatch, his heart thumped hard in his chest, making the down trodden fallen give a small gasp.
There was nobody else it could be but Kai. Castiel straightened out his shoulders and pushed himself to his knees, brushing his bangs aside—a nervous tic—before rising to his feet. "Uhm ... sorry about that ... " Castiel said a bit nervously, turning to face Kai, still standing on the bottom step. "I didn't know ... I just hoped. I feel kinda sick from how nervous I am ... I couldn't ... quite make it to the door. Haa ... that sounds so silly now that I've said it aloud ... " Again, the fallen brushed at his bangs, his wings still tightly held to his back.
"Well ... shall we? Dad said they'd try to have dinner ready for when we got there .... "

A wide smile replaced a look of confusion when the other stood. He stepped down to the sidewalk, holding a hand out for Castiel. "That's not silly," he frowned, upset he thought it was such, "your health is the most important thing, so I'm glad you texted instead." Kai laughed lightly, "honestly I'm so nervous I was pacing in the bathroom." Kai adjusted his cap and kicked at a crack on the ground. He didn't want to admit this was nervewracking, but he couldn't shake the idea that Castiel's family would hate him.
An idea popped into his head when Castiel tried to move them along. "I can give you a piggy back ride there if you're not up to physical activity." It would take both of their minds off of their future dinner

A small smile curved Castiel's frowning lips, his eyes reigniting with a playful spark. Softly, the fallen sighed, a sign of relief as he took Kai's hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Thanks, love ... " the fallen murmured, though his heart twisted in his chest to hear that Kai had been so nervous. Could he really blame him, though?
"A ... a piggyback?" Castiel knew better then to draw attention to Kai's earlier comment. "Actually ... that sounds fun ... "

"Of course." He gave a returning squeeze with a small smile.
Kai half expected him to turn down the idea, so when he didn't his smile turned into a full blown grin and turned to face Castiel. "Really?!" The Fallen bounced around his boyfriend clearly excited, each time he fell back to the ground his wings fluffed out getting ready for the ride. "You'll have to direct me, but I know you know the way." Kai tucked his phone in a pocket and knelt down on one knee in front of the other, ready to carry him to their destination. His wings were slightly extended so Castiel could settle directly against his back.

Castiel couldn't help but to laugh as Kai started bouncing around. It was so cute, his excitement. It was encouraging, and nearly melted his fears away. What was there even to worry about? This was his family, after all. He had lived with them all his life and knew them like the back of his hand. What could possibly go wrong?
Even still, Castiel was a bit nervous to climb on to the boy's back. He was worried he would hurt his pretty wings, but after such a positive reaction how could deny him now? Mindful of his wings, Cas climbed on, shifting himself gently to rest again him as he slipped his arms around his boyfriend's shoulders.
"Is this ok? Is it comfortable?"

Once his passenger was settled, the fallen relaxed his wings, almost tucking Castiel in. They fit together like two puzzle pieces, so he knew however his boyfriend would have settled in would have been comfortable. "You're perfect like that!" Without a struggle, Kai stood up on his two feet, his hands holding Castiel's legs for more support.
"Are we going to your house? Because I have no idea where that is." He laughed and looked both ways on the side walk. Kai had never been over to Castiel's. Since Kai lived with his adoptive brother(who did take care of Kai, but was also busy with his own career) it always made more sense to go there instead of Castiel's. It felt like an eternity before Kai got a direction, but when he did he followed lead with a grin from ear to ear as he carried the cutest fallen in the world on his back.

Castiel closed his eyes as the two bounced along. He had given Kai what Castiel thought was relatively easy directions. Even when they took the portal jump Castiel stayed on Kai's back — though perhaps held on a little tighter.
It wasn't long before they got to the larger, more expensive mansions in the area. The houses started getting more and more spread out as the lands they belonged to become more vast. After a good twenty minute walk the two arrived at the end of Castiel's drive-way. It was a long, winding drive-way, gated off with shrubs and trees lining the property.
Smolder had won a massive law suit some years back. It had been such a twist for the kids to go from living in extremely cramped, impoverished conditions, and then to upgrade so vastly and have their own rooms ...
Castiel slipped off Kai's back and punched in the security code that would allow the two to walk up the drive way. "Ready ... ?"

As the landscape visibly got more expensive, the fallen stared with wide eyes and mouth agape. These were like houses you saw in magazines. His steps moved slower as they grew closer, purely astonished by the homes around him. Kai knelt to help Castiel off his back. He stayed on a knee as the gate opened for their entrance. "I think I'm going to be sick.." He swallowed the lump in his throat, "maybe we should cancel." The fears he had smothered deep down inside boiled to the top now that they were here. Surely Castiel's mother and father would disapprove of Kai, who's dream was to follow his brothers foot steps. Castiel deserved a king for boyfriend. The fallen ruffled out his wings, hoping some of the excess energy would vanish. Clearly as a nervous habit, Kai took his hat off and bent the bill. He fidgeted with it as he stood up and looked to his boyfriend, his stomach still in knots.

Castiel's expression feel as he turned to face his boyfriend. His wings twtiched nervously as he watched him kneeled on the ground. Was this ... too much? Castiel rubbed at the back of his neck, drawing in a steady breath to calm his nerves.
"Love ... it'll be okay," the fallen started, stepping forward to kiss his cheek reassuringly. "Trust me ... my parents ... they aren't ... their personalities are not how this place looks. One of my dad's, maybe ... he fits right in. But my mom and my other dad just ... it's not. Them. You'll be alright. Believe me. Now, come. Let's walk together."

Kai felt himself stand taller after the peck on his cheek. Although his fears were telling him to turn and run on home, he took a deep breath and nodded. He put his hat on, mumbling to himself, "I should have dressed up or somethin' at least.."
Before either could change their minds again Kai took the others hand and headed up the drive way. "So, do you know what's for dinner?" Small talk would distract them from their anxieties, right? Kai hoped so. When they got to the door, Kai looked to his boyfriend with a clearly nervous smile. "Now or never right?"
