The last time Kit had entered a bar, he had had a drink thrown in his eyes. It hadn't exactly been a bar fight, nor had it been undeserved, but he'd kept away for a time. It wasn't as if he drank alcohol anyway. What he came for was to observe and sketch the drinkers. So, one day when twilight was fast approaching and there didn't seem to be too many people out to observe, he gave into his ache for inspiring drawing subjects and sought out the nearest drinking establishment.

It was always fascinating to find out what people were like when their inhibitions were lowered, especially since Kit was pretty sure he had fewer inhibitions in general than most, so he felt he could relate more with those who were inebriated. There were the social drinkers, the lustful ones, the sleepy ones...so many different kinds to learn about and watch. What he didn't understand so well and thus became the most curious about were ones who drank to dull the senses.

While people often came to bars to drown their feelings, as he understood it, just as many seemed to become more emotional and even tearful when they were drunk, so what was the point? Did they get intoxicated to expel all their sorrows at once, perhaps, or wallow in them? Maybe they did so in the hope that they could forget everything the following morning, since alcohol did tend to cause memory loss. Kit completely understood wanting to forget if past memories inhibited one from living in the moment, but then how was one suppose to learn from their mistakes? Weren't they bound to repeat them again?

Perhaps that was one reason he'd heard alcohol could be addicting. It was like medication - it had to be taken repeatedly or its effects would wear off. Kit looked up from his sketch of a burly young man near by and considered. Getting up, he tucked his pencil behind his ear and closed his sketchpad before going over to address the stranger.

"Hey there," he greeted, his smile warm. "Mind me asking what brings you to this place this evening?"
