gaia_star A reminder to go here on how to take on a job!

[ JOB LISTING ] Runic Mechanic
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star
[ TASK ] To utilize their resources, hunters have the opportunity to craft, buy, or bribe their way into owning their very own runic vehicle.

Quote:

Runic technology has advanced to the point where, with the proper technique, runic vehicles were a possibility on Deus. They were even made versatile enough to the point where they could be taken through portals and into Halloween itself, and provide invaluable passive assistance on the field.

Unfortunately given the popularity of these vehicles, the current waitlist to rent out a vehicle was already a year out. Instead of waiting that long, the Mist division has opened up their meeting hall to Deus at large for any aspiring runic mechanic to build their own vehicle.

Quote:
What's so special about Runic Vehicles?
Building a runic vehicle will grant you access to a class-B artifact for the rest of the meta. Putting in the time to complete an artifact will enable you to choose one of the following powers:
  • An additional T2 Fear.
  • A passive +3 to your attack rolls.
  • +30 HP
  • A chance to reroll dice in any event/external mission thread.

In addition, each runic vehicle has a durability. Durability has two functions:

  1. It costs durability to use the ONE power you've given it (above).
  2. You can, at any point, opt to have damage go to your vehicle instead of your character. Please note that vehicle damage carries over from thread to thread and does not recover between RPs. Vehicles can be destroyed. If your vehicle is destroyed, you will need to build another.

Please note that using these powers will cost your artifact's HP. Once the artifact's HP hits zero, it is destroyed. You can, however, rebuild it... but you will need to go through the entire process all over again.

Please follow the prompts below. Each prompt has a minimum word could you must meet to qualify for this optional item. It's fine if you roll/calculate ahead of time, however you may NOT use your item IC or in any other threads until you have filled out your posts.

To build your semi-customized artifact, follow the prompts below. Add the points (pts) at the end of each result and hang onto them as they'll come into play later.

If you don't like your dice, you can reroll each prompt up to three times. If you reroll you still need to meet the minimum word requirement for that prompt.

Alternatively, if you don't want to write and/or roll you can choose to bribe. Bribing past prompts will cost you currency. Please subtract the currency from your journal as you spend it, should you choose to go this route. When you bribe, you get to choose your result.

[ STEP ONE - ACQUIRING THE NON-RUNIC VEHICLE ]
In order to have a runic vehicle, you need to acquire a base to work off of -- that is, you need to go to the Human World and get a vehicle of some sort. You can choose anything from a car to a scooter to a motorcycle, however please don't choose something like a Peterbilt truck or hoverboard. The smallest you can go is a go-kart, and the largest you can go is a mid-sized pickup truck. You also *MUST* choose a vehicle of some sort -- an electric powered scooter or bicycle cannot be chosen.

    Minimum Word Count: 150 words
Bribe Cost: 5 currency (+10 pts.)

Roll 1d6. You find the base for your vehicle...
      1. ... while out on a mission. It looks okay; not great shape but not terrible shape either. +5 pts.
      2. ... forgotten in a junkyard. You take it, confident that you can restore it and turn it into something amazing. +0 pts.
      3. ... parked on the side of the road. You probably either hotwired it or bribed its owner to part with it. +5 pts.
      4. ... at an auction. It's seen better days. +0 pts.
      5. ... brand new at a car lot. It's in pristine condition. +10 pts.
      6. ... on the Internet. Either through an advertisement or you saw it in a viral video and had to have it. +5 pts.

[ STEP TWO - REPAIR AND PREP ]
Now that you have a base to work with, it's time to fix it up before outfitting it with runes. You're also racing against the clock -- if you take too long, the Fear around Deus Ex will warp it into something unusable. As soon as that's complete, it's time to add any additional (and optional) things to the vehicle to personalize it.

    Minimum Word Count: 100
Bribe Cost: 10 Currency (+25 pts)

Roll 1d4. Multiply the result by 5 and add that many points. ie:
      1. +5 pts.
      2. +10 pts.
      3. +15 pts.
      4. +20 pts.

    [ STEP THREE - RUNE CARVING ]
Traditionally on Deus, creating runes was a lot more involved and difficult. Thanks to the advantages of technology, a new method of runic carving has been developed: runic paint. Runic mechanics can brush their runes onto their vehicles, with the more artistically inclined weaving runes into intricate illustrations and designs on their vehicles. For the more traditionally inclined, the old method of carving rocks still exists. Said rocks are then adhered to the inside of the vehicle, or even worked into the metal on the vehicle's frame itself. All vehicles also have an option to turn the rune glows on, off, or have it at a "dim" setting to give their vehicle a nice glow without looking obnoxious.

Whatever method (or mixture of methods) you choose, it's time to power it up.

      Minimum Word Count: 250
Bribe Cost: 10 Currency (+30 pts)

Roll 5d6 to determine the overall quality of your runes. Add the point totals up.
        1. The rune glows bright for a moment... then fades, broken. +0 pts.
        2. The rune takes on a steady glow. +5 pts.
        3. The rune glows bright and sparkles a little bit. +10 pts.
        4. The rune flashes brightly, then flickers and sputters out. +0 pts.
        5. The rune takes on a rippling sheen. +5 pts.
        6. The rune glitters and shimmers like a rainbow before settling on a color to match all of the other runes. +15 pts. (One time only! If you roll this again, it's only a +5pt bonus).

    [ STEP FOUR - FINISHING TOUCHES ]
You're almost done. It's time to touch up the paint here, a rune there, and add some sick underlighting or find a decent air freshener for your wheels.

      Minimum Word Count: 100
      Bribe Cost: N/A

Roll 1d4 for every 100 words you choose to write in this section. If you write 300 words for instance, roll 3d4.
        • Odd: The rune didn't do anything. +0 pts.
        • Even: You touch up an existing rune and improve it. +5 pts.

      Quote:

      [ DETERMINE VEHICLE DURABILITY ]
Add up all your points. Match your point total to the chart below:
        • 0 - 20: Vehicle Durability: 25/25
        • 21 - 30: Vehicle Durability: 35/35
        • 31 - 40: Vehicle Durability: 45/45
        • 41 - 50+: Vehicle Durability: 55/55

        [ SELECTING A BONUS ]
Before you can drive your vehicle out of here, it's time for one last thing: choosing a Fear drive. The Fear drive enables your vehicle to give you a passive bonus when you take it with you on mission.

            CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

            • Bonus Fear Attack: You can pick ONE additional T2-level Fear Attack to use. Using this ability will cost -10 vehicle HP each time you use it.
Example: My character is a trainee hunter with The Chill. While I can normally only use it twice, by taking this option I can also use a the T2-level Battle Cry. Each time I use the Battle Cry in combat, I'd remove 10 HP from my vehicle's HP.

            • Bonus +3 Modifier: On every attack roll, you can add a +3 modifier to your rolls. Whenever you roll with the +3 modifier, -5 HP is removed from your vehicle's HP.
Example: I'm an Intermediate/Stage 2 hunter. To attack, I'd normally roll 2d10-6. Instead, I'd go (2d10)+3-6 and subtract -5 vehicle HP.

            • Beefed Up Defense: My vehicle has a bonus +30 HP on top of whatever it already has.

            • Bonus Reroll Chance: At the cost of -10 vehicle HP, your vehicle will allow you to reroll any event/external mission dice. You cannot use this to reroll battle/Fear dice, but you can use your vehicle to give you another shot at various jobs (LOOKING AT YOU, TRANSPORTER, I'D LIKE TO SEE YOUR EVENT #4 BIRDS TRY AND STEAL MY COOLER NOW!).

If your vehicle is destroyed, you CAN build another.
If you build a vehicle one day and build a better one the next day, you can switch to the new vehicle -- the other one will be considered "sold" and cannot be used ever again. In addition, you will have to take the "Used Car"

Andrew did not like riding in cars. Some might wonder why he would even think about getting a car. Because while he didn't like riding in them, it was totally 100% different when you were DRIVING the car.

There were other benefits like the fact that wielding it together would make his weapon very very happy. So when Andrew spotted that piece of junk on the internet, he had to have it. It wasn't exactly a car, this was a bike. But Andrew thought there were enough pieces there to work with.

So he ordered it up an when waited at the predetermined place. And then it took some doing to get it home. He had to shove and get the package through a portal after all. It was a giant pain, but worth it. So worth it, if this worked.

Butane chattered on happily inside his head and was of course, ignored.

Now that he finally got it home, Andrew had to work fast. He could already see some of the pieces from someone else's work warping. Annoyed he kicked a few yapping pieces of metal out of the way.

Andrew got the tires refitted and worked to bend it back into shape. He wasn't much for the details, he didn't need much, but he did make sure to adjust it to his height. The handles got reglued on and the mirrors were adjusted.

He also welded back on the kick stand, much to Butane's absolute delight.

There, good enough he supposed.

Next, Andrew need to rune it up and paint. Andrew wasn't exactly an expert at either, but after long years of being a sun hunter he had picked up a thing or two.

the first thing he knew was that he needed a plan. And because he needed a plan, he knew to lay out a pattern for painting. He had made a sketch ahead of time, before even getting the old junk bike in. He laid it out and tried to get the first rune on.

No luck, some of the bike was cracked and he couldn't get the first bit on without adding some soldering to it. Even then it was pretty clear it would rub off fast. That was frustrating.

Butane clicked in his inner ear. "Hurry up, I want to go ride."

He ignored him, knowing these things took time. Andrew settled down to painting out the rest. the next rune went down nice and easily. It even sparked and glistened as he was slow and kept a steady hand over it. He even coiled it up to look like flames. Yes perfect. There was no other more perfect bike detail in the world.

And his bike would have tons of flames. Andrew made sure the next one was just as nice.

Though he found another damaged spot on the one after that.

It didn't matter. Andrew went to the front and very carefully pained in the final piece to the bike. Perfect. Now he'd look good coming or going.

Andrew touched up the paint in a few spots and did his best to work out he areas where the paint was already a problem. when he was done, Andrew looked over the bike. It looked damn good. Not bad for someone who didn't have much in the way of mechanical experience. What he did have was a good set of eyes and knew gold when he saw it.

Best deal ever.

Now all he needed to do was adjust the handles again and done. Gold. Pure gold.

Pure fire. butane cackled.

"Yes yes pure fire." he waved off the annoyance.
