ASSESSMENT COURSE
gaia_crown [ THE DIVISION ASSESSMENT COURSE ]

- All Mist Hunters, to show their flexibility, must take part in the training course. This particular training course features tasks that highlight the strengths of other divisions.

NOTE: Please do your evaluations/Mist assessments here in THIS thread! You'll log it as a normal ORP.

gaia_star [ INSTRUCTIONS: ]
- Follow the prompts below.
- You have two retries. This means if you get a roll you dislike, you can spend a retry in order to reroll that prompt.
- You can also bribe your way past prompts.
-- A bribe will always result in a +1 success.
-- Each bribe costs 5 currency.
-- NOTE: If you choose to bribe, you MUST subtract 5 currency from your journal.
- You can take a bonus +1 to ANY of the prompt results below (even if it's a fail!) by writing 250 words. ie if you roll a +1 success, you can write 250 words detailing what happened/have an inner character monologue/etc for an extra +1, meaning you've earned +2 from that prompt.

gaia_star [ PART 1 - Mandatory Courses ] Your character must complete the following 4 prompts.

gaia_diamond Death Exercise - Deciphering: Your have been given a piece of paper with cryptic clues leading to the training course. Roll 1d4 and match your result below.

  4. Your opponent attempts to get you to move. You do move, but not enough to let them through. (Pass; +1)

gaia_diamond Sun Exercise - This Is Unbearable: Faiza's pet gray bear, Gnash, is here. You are tasked to wrestle it with your bare hands. (Get it? Because it's a bear and you have bare hands, haha seriously put your weapon away you better not kill off Gnash or Faiza will be more than pissed.)

Gnash's Gnarly Stats:
HP: 30

gaia_star [ PART 2 - Supplemental Courses ] Look at the following list. Pick and choose which courses you'd like your character to do in order to supplement your required 10 points. There is no limit as to how many you choose to do.

    Death:
+ Research - The Truth is Out There:
Your character has been tasked with researching a supernatural event or creature of your choice. Or a human celebrity. Roll 2d4.
1: By using the power of the Internet, you find their wikipedia article and supply false information. Fail; +0.
2: By using the power of the Internet, you google responsibly. Success; +1.
3: You find the information you're looking for by going out into the human world. Did you go to a library? The magazine rack in a grocery store? Did you interview and/or ask actual humans on the street? Please describe your method of research, 100 words minimum. Pass; +1.
4: You do what the Death hunter you're working with did: you delegate this task onto someone else. Pass; +1.

+ Now you see me, now you... uh...

      Life:
        + Minipet Care 101
Your character has been asked to help take care of some minipets and make sure that they're all still alive at the end of an hour. Roll 1d4.
Even: Your character is successful, although you had a bit of an experience with a particular minipet who seemed to think that your face is a good food dish... Pass; +1.
Odd: Your character is unsuccessful. You either get trampled by rampaging minipets you accidentally let loose in the labs or you turn around and discover that one of your minipets has run off somewhere with your clipboard. You should maybe go and find that before the hour is up... Fail; +0.

        + SCIENCE.
Your character has been tasked with coming up with a solution or mixture to help bolster hunter spirits. This requires careful knowledge of mixing ingredients together, all of which if mixed together wrong, could result in something probably a little more, uh...sinister...Your mixture should include 1 colored ingredient, one strangely textured ingredient, and one very aromatic ingredient.
Describe what you did in 150 words, along with the effects of your solution. Pass; +1.

      Moon:
        + Bodyguard Duty
Your character has been tasked with protecting a minor celebrity that recently made headlines (either positively or negatively -- your choice). It's up to you to escort them to their destination safetly. Roll 3d8. The celebrity you are protecting has 20/20 HP.

1-2: You are forced to stop as the celebrity insists on interacting in a positive way with their fans. No change.

4: You take a break. The break helps your escort feel a bit better. +10 HP.
5-6: Your celebrity has a negative encounter and loses -10 HP.
7: You encounter horsemen! You manage to fight them off, but not before they do a serious number on your escort. Your escort's HP, regardless of what it was before, is now 1. Unless they're dead. Then they're still dead. You monster.
8: Your celebrity is overwhelmed by a mob! By the time you manage to pull them out, you notice they've been injured. -10 HP.

If your celebrity survived then you pass; +1.
If their HP hits 0, then unfortunately you have failed; +0.

        + Recovery
Unfortunately hunters aren't immortal. Spend some time assisting others in the recovery ward.
Reflection time! Write 150 words describing what your hunter does.
Do they take a spa day? Help make bandages? Provide hospitality for the injured? Reflect on a time they were injured? Take a first aid course?
Take a pass; +1 after writing 150 words.

      Sun:
        + ZETTAI NI MEIWAKUNA KOGEKI!!!
Your character has been asked to show their worth as a front line hunter by means of showing off your best trademark move with as much flair as possible.
Write 100 words describing your character's signature pose/move. Pass; +1

        + Whack-a-Mole, Horseman Edition
Dorian, the Mist Assistant, has requested that you participate in a training exercise that involves a lot of dodging and a lot of hitting. It's basically like a giant field of whack-a-mole; see how many "enemies" you can smack down when they pop up. Roll 1d8; pass when you hit something. +1.
          1. You manage to hit one straight on the head.
          2. You missed.
          3. You missed so badly you ended up hitting yourself.
          4. You managed to hit something, but it turned out to be another Mist hunter doing the same task as you.
          5. You move quickly and manage to hit two in rapid succession.
          6. You cheat and use a flashy Fear move to hit multiple at once.
          7. You manage to hit one that has been... enhanced by a Famine and/or Life Hunter experiment. It leaves a lasting effect on you that exists for the duration of this RP (ie you're now a particular color, you're covered in glitter, you look like the opposite gender, etc.)
          8. You do something impressive that makes a passing Mist hunter stop and cheer wildly at you.

Death Exercise - Deciphering
You have been given a piece of paper with cryptic clues leading to the training course.

Becker liked his division's training course. It was an easy indicator of his improvement--even though he saw no other perceptible changes in himself--and if he got to it early enough, he saw no one else along the entirety of its stretch. Considering that he hated nearly every living soul on this assball of a planet, it was a most excellent set of circumstances.

He awoke before dawn on the morning he was scheduled to run, sliding fingerless gloves over his darkened hands and pulling his form-fitting coat close. Usually someone met him outside the dorms, but today he found nothing there but a piece of paper with a lengthy cipher on it. He brought it back inside. Becker might have hated people, but he loved puzzles.

Five minutes later, he was frowning more than usual, certain that he was being watched and judged over his sluggishness. Ten passed before he figured it out where he was meant to go, a smile flashing over his features that was rare in that it wasn't born of the mockery and pain of someone else. He reached his second location with a triumphant whoop, only to find no further clues, just an empty expanse covered over in freshly tilled dirt.

Perhaps you are meant to dig, sir. Silas' dour voice made Becker clench his fists.

"Nobody asked you."

The creature was silent once more.

In the end, it was all he could do. Choosing a spot based on the translation of a smattering of out of place letters on his original slip of paper, Becker unearthed a small metal tube containing further instructions. When he reached the location set up for the Moon section of the course, he was the first person there.

Quote:
You manage to fly through the puzzle and get there before anyone else shows up. (Great success! +2 [ +1 for 289 words ])

Moon Exercise - I Am the Wall
You are tasked to help form a defensive line while other hunters attempt to get past you.

The problem with being the first person anywhere was that you had to wait.

It wouldn't have been so bad had he not known that he was waiting for his fellow hunters to show up so that they could all make a line and get smacked into a lot, but he did know that and he did not want it. Becker was a small man. Some of the brutes here were not. The math was not in his favor.

Still, once everyone had arrived and they got started, he found that he was holding his own for a change. Sure, he got knocked back more than once, and he ended the exercise with a split lip, a black eye, and more bruises on his forearms than tattoos, but he had stayed on his feet, which was more than he could say for the last time he had attempted this.

Becker wondered every day if the people here were trying to kill him. Or maybe he didn't wonder. Maybe he just grew more and more aware that it was the truth, that nothing and no one here wanted him safe. He had been told as much, hadn't he?

Today he would be fighting Faiza's bear for no other reason than she deemed it a good idea. The creature would have been imposing even if he hadn't been a shade under five feet tall. He was determined not to be intimidated.

Knock 'em dead, sir, Silas urged. Or, don't. Miss Faiza would be very angry.

That wasn't going to be possible with his bare hands anyway, but Becker gave it his all, managing a decent blow to the creature's face as his shield was struck just as hard.

The harder he tried, the less he made contact. Right before he fell panting onto the packed earth he managed to graze Gnash's side with a fist, but it did nothing.

Pedro - Part 1 DEATH

There was, is, a very good reason why Pedro tended to act as a companion for Death Division related missions rather than taking the lead or going at those missions solo. It was because he was absolutely s**t at it and he very, very clearly knows this. He usually did well enough as someone providing back up, or acting as the just in case person. But on his own? Oh the Mist Hunter often wondered how he managed to ever make it this far.

So when during the assessment he was given a piece of paper with cryptic clues leading to the training course, Pedro kept his smile firmly on his face to hide the fact that he had absolutely no clue what this paper was talking about. As far as he was concerned it was written in a completely different language that was then run through a shitty translation program and then re-translated back to its original foreign language.

He still tried though because he was a Mist and he should be able to do things on his own. It was what his Division was formed for, wasn't it? He couldn't just give up so easily. Even if the words might as well have been minipet scratchings for he could see. In the end, he opted to surreptitiously follow after another Hunter.

It was a definitely shameful result, but Pedro vowed to do better in the later portions of the tests. At least he got there in the end right?

Pedro - Part 1 MOON

At the training course, Pedro quickly fell in line with the other hunters preparing to perform the Wall exercise. He liked these sort of tasks better than Death related ones. It fostered cooperation and teamwork and-

As he happily thought about all the reasons why he enjoyed Moon tasks and had once contemplated on switching to said division, he didn't even realize his opponent had charged at him. At least, not until he heard the thump of a body falling to the ground.

"Ay, 'tang ina you okay there?" he asked, offering a hand to help them back to their feet. Not wanting to hurt his fellow Mist Hunters during this simple test, Pedro was a little more flexible during the next few attempts at breaking the line.
