Charismaster: (Emotive) Bonus: -- Cost: 5 MP Effect: HP 0 ||| MP 0 (while this magic doesn't actually affect the ability to act, those watching will find themselves more impressed with those normal actions than they might otherwise have been) Method: Transmutation ||| Source: Divine Use: This magic improves the target's natural appeal, affecting their allure, credibility, magnetism, charm and ability to captivate. Some of the best performers use this magic to ensure they please the crowd, but it has also been used in the past by crooked politicians wishing to whip up the populous to support their goals for power
Solomnence: (Enchantments) Bonus: -- Cost: 10 MP Effect: HP- (prevents action) ||| MP+ (enables the target to regenerate their MP) Method: Casting ||| Source: Practical Use: Causes a target to fall asleep and stay asleep for a natural sleep cycle. While breaking magics can cut through to wake the individual, standard noises, touches, etc won't rouse them. Often used by Caretakers with exceptionally wilful or exuberant Freshlings.

First spell of the battle should be one that would help impress anyone who was watching, shouldn’t it? At least, that was the reason Aiden chose to use Charismaster to begin. He grinned cheerfully at his opponent, a chimera who looked as if they hadn’t bathed in a long time, combining that with a nasty set of bedhead. “Are you sure you’re in the right place, mate? You look like you should be elsewhere, like finding your way into a shower, or a new set of clothes.” The words might have been concerned, if it weren’t for the haughty tone.

No dose in over twenty-four hours and he was beginning to feel it. Fidgeting all through class, shaky hands and shaky focus, Reaver wondered why he had even bothered to show up. He might as well have stayed home, and attempted to sleep it off until he could take another hit. More focused on the crushing sensation in his skull than the class activity, Reaver only paid half attention to the instructions. It was only when he found himself paired up with an elf that he bothered to tune in to his surroundings.
“...you’re in the right place, mate?” the elf asked. That gave Reaver pause. He had been distracted enough that he just might have entered the wrong class. He scanned the faces of his peers, trying to discern if any of them looked familiar. As he did the elf continued, “You look like you should be elsewhere, like finding your way into a shower, or a new set of clothes.”
Oh.
Reaver felt a rush of irritation, accompanied by sharp pain like a stake being driven into his brain. Not helping. Expression neutral, he dove his energies into the shadows. Behind the elf, his shadow began to twitch. “I could say the same about you,” Reaver said, the words leaving his mouth before he could process them. He clenched his hand into a fist. The arm of the elf's shadow snaked around his ankles and pulled tight, to yank him to the ground.

Aiden was throwing a grin around to those who had shown an interest in his battle. He wasn’t really interested in this mock battle, especially with the hybrid that’d been paired up with him. Honestly, he was just playing around. It was obvious that his so-called partner didn’t have his head in the game, so why should he?
“I think the floor suits you though.”
The abrupt yank on his ankles sent him to the ground. For half a moment he was stunned. Then his eyes narrowed as he realized it had been his opponent who had sent him there. “Well, if the floor suits me, perhaps you should get off it?” His tone was surprisingly mild, but the flames starting on Reaver’s shoes told a different story. It would be amusing to see if he danced to try and put the flames out.
With a yelp, Reaver jumped as hot flames licked at his shoes. He hopped back and forth, furiously trying to stamp the fire out. His tail lashed behind him. In a panic, his wings flapped of their own accord, but that only made the flames worse. They travelled further up his boots, and sent out sparks which smouldered on the floor. Fed up, Reaver, slapped his tail against his boots to beat out the flames. With a few solid whacks he had squashed the last of the fire.
Regarding his charred boots, Reaver seethed. These were his good boots; “were” being the operative word. Now they stank of smoke and had several holes where the flames had eaten away at the leather. Worse still, the pungent smell of burning leather did nothing for his headache. His only saving grace was that he could still walk in them, but that brought him little solace.

Aiden felt a fierce satisfaction, watching the chimera hybrid hop around in a panic, but he only smiled benignly. That more than made up for the fact that he’d been knocked to the ground. So, while the chimera was hopping around, he got up and brushed himself off. There was no danger of a spell being cast while he wasn’t paying attention, since his opponent was otherwise occupied. Then he leaned back, resting in a casual pose to watch as Reaver finally got the flame out.
“Having fun yet, friend?” he questioned, with the same benign smile on his face. “Because I would hate for this to be a bore.” Once he had the other’s attention, he once again cast the same spell. This time though, he wanted small flames, with just enough force to distract. He set them in a couple different spots: on his sleeves, the hem of his shirt, his shoelaces. Just a quick flash of heat that did barely any damage.
It was much harder to get the result than he’d thought, but he did succeed. After he was done, his smile got fractionally bigger. Still cheerful, still benign, with an undercurrent of amusement.

Reaver's eyes darted to Aiden as soon as the elf called out to him. At the sight of his opponent lounging comfortably with the smirk of a cat who just got the bird, Reaver grimaced. He pushed his hair out of his face, pausing to allow the coolness of his palm seep into his forehead. He might have had other things on his mind, but damn if he did not want to wipe the smug grin off his opponent's face.
His brow creased with pain and focus. Focus. The elf raised a hand, igniting several more blazes. Reaver extinguished the immediate threat of those on his shirt with a swift clap of his wings. Ignoring those on his shoes (they were already ruined anyway), he turned his energies to his own magic. He took in a deep breath. It shook in his throat. His form began to shimmer and blur at the edges. To look at him induced double vision.

If Aiden thought he’d get to see the hybrid dancing around for those small flames, he was surely disappointed. He didn’t even spare them a glance before putting them out. Aiden frowned and turned contemplative for a moment. Maybe fire had lost its horror when he used it the first time? When he looked at Reaver again, it was as if there was more than one of them. He blinked, rubbing his eyes and trying to focus on one. He’d decided fire was still a good tactic, he’d just used it wrong, and was ready to throw some more at him.
Nothing came into focus when he finished clearing his eyes, but he decided to start on the spell anyway. He was sure that he’d get it right anyway. After all, there wasn’t that much space in their area. Was there? Maybe he’d been moved while he hadn’t paid attention. Maybe that wasn’t even the real hybrid, and he was instead in a new position waiting for Aiden to cast something at the illusion so he could take advantage of the opening?
In his sudden panic, Aiden drew on the magic to instead ignite anything within the area around himself. But something went terribly terribly wrong. He managed to start a fire alright, but it exploded in his face, knocking him to the ground and catching small parts of his own outfit on fire. The backfire scorched him, and with a shocked yelp he rolled to put the fire out. That had hurt, and bad.
It was like all the air had suddenly been sucked out of the room. Recoiling, Reaver threw in arm across his eyes as bright orange flames erupted between him and his opponent. The blast never reached him however.
The spell burst in his opponent's face, the resulting force from the flashover knocked him to the floor. Reaver watched horrified. For a moment, the whole elf's body seemed to be engulfed in flame. But as he rolled and thrashed over the floor, the fire dwindled and burnt out. The chimera let out his breath.

As the last of the embers died, Reaver watched his opponent warily. A part of him hoped that the elf would not get back up, so that they could be done already. But the other part of him hated himself for even having the thought. After a few seconds the the elf staggered to his feet and picked himself up the floor. Black ash darkened his face from the blaze. Reaver felt both disappointment and relief.
“Karma can be a b***h, huh?” he said. His sympathy had been short-lived. Drawing one hand across the air, he began his next spell cast. At his feet, the shadows began to grow and stretch towards the elf.
