While the morning is full of seminars and classes, the afternoon is dedicated to guided tours of the new hospital for all curious visitors who wish to see the inner workings of the large facility.

You have signed up for such a tour and now find yourself being guided by the anxious medical intern Thomas Wilde. He's been fidgeting with his pen and notepad ever since you arrived in line for the tour, so it comes as no surprise when the young man begins to stutter as soon as the tour takes off. He leads you all towards the elevator with the intentions of taking you to the Concourse level to examine the Operating Rooms, but accidentally hits the B button instead. You now find yourself in the basement of the hospital. Thomas is clearly pretending that he intentionally led you down there to show you the boiler room, but you have your suspicions that he's attempting to cover his blunder.

You find yourself led into the back of the boiler room. There is not much to see here, other than maintenance supplies and a rather creepy looking series of boilers. Wasn't this hospital supposed to be brand new? So then why does everything look run down?

In the back corner, however, there seems to be an excess supply of random hospital paraphernalia, most of which appears to be broken parts. Perhaps someone was using the area for storage? Or worse, a dump?

The young intern fumbles with his pen as he stands in front of the group. It's clear that some of the facts he's coming up with are coming straight from the top of his head, but you feel sorry for the guy, so you humor him.

"This room actually has historic value! That's why it looks so old and decrepit, we wanted to keep the likeness to the original building as much as possibl---oh."

His words drift off as the lights shut off, leaving you and the rest of the group in total darkness. The sound of Thomas's pen clicks in the darkness - maybe it's a nervous tick of his?

"I am sure it's just a blown fuse, please, there's no reason to get upset...
or tell Doctor Hadly..."
PostPosted: Sat May 06, 2017 2:45 pm

The speaker system overhead crackles on and an deep, ominous laughter fills the entire boiler room. Depending on your history with the magical characters of Destiny City, you may recognize the voice of a notorious redheaded General.

"Hello, hello, testing... 1...2...3...."

A shrill sound pierces through the speaker system, followed by a second chuckle.

"There we go. Hiya, friends of the new hospital! Wow, it's dark as s**t in there! Don't worry, the emergency lights will flicker on shortly. Or not. Not my problem! But let's skip right to the important things."

Clearing his throat, a muffled voice of another female was picked up in the background. The male voice, however, continued.

"My name is General Obsidian and while I would love to personally see to your enjoyment of my new hospital, I'm afraid I am way too important for that s**t. My buddies will see that you enjoy your stay."

At that moment, the back-up lights come on, allowing you the ability to dimly see the room around you. It's only a fraction of the light that you'd started with, but it's better than nothing.

"Huh, they work after all!. As I was saying, I have a few friends that are very eager to meet you. But as much as I love a good bloodbath, I'd rather see you guys put some effort in.... so.... if you can make it out of the hospital in one piece, you win! Isn't that just great?

The female voice crackled over the system, her words and voice unrecognizable.

"Of course, if you don't make it out, my compadres will make sure you're comfortable. You know, smeared on the walls, thrown in the morgue, tossed in the incinerator.... But anyways, I digress. Please have a WONDERFUL time and we wish you the best of luck... ta-ta!"

With that, the speaker system hisses as it shuts off completely.

Despite the darkness of the room, it isn't hard to tell by the frantic pen clicking that Thomas is about to lose it - and fast. There's a nervous, shaking silhouette of him still standing in front of all twenty members of the tour group and you worry that he's about to fall over out of panic.

"I-I'm not getting paid enough to handle this kind of e-emergency..."

Someone mentions going back up the elevator, but a click of the button proves that the machine is out of order. You'll have to find the stairs on the other side of the basement and make your way back up two flights to the first floor.

Thomas explains that the stairs are the only way back to the exit - but before he begins in the direction of the stairs, he swallows hard and retreats to the pile of trash in the corner and plucks out a long, broken IV pole.

It's probably for the best if you took a weapon too....

Just in case.....

Please roll ONE 6-sided dice to determine your weapon below:

If you roll a 1, you've grabbed:

User Image
Scalpel

A knife, typically used by a surgeon to slice through flesh. Try not to slice your own while using it...

(Roll 1 6-sided dice for attack damage value.)

If you roll a 2, you've grabbed:

User Image
Broken IV Pole

A piece of broken metal piping from an IV pole. It won't hold medicine anymore, but maybe you can use it to bash something?

(Roll 1 12-sided dice for attack damage value.)

If you roll a 3, you've grabbed:

User Image
Phone Cord & Phone

A broken segment of a phone. It no longer allows you to place a call, but maybe you can use the cord for rope or... something?

(Roll 1 4-sided dice for attack damage value.)

If you roll a 4, you've grabbed:

User Image
Broken Wheelchair Fragment

A part of a chair that has no purpose. Maybe it can be used to strike at something?

(Roll 1 6-sided dice for attack damage value.)

If you roll a 5, you've grabbed:

User Image
Oxygen Tank

A heavy tank devoid of any oxygen that it used to hold. Difficult to lift up but effective when used to smash.

(Roll 1 12-sided dice for attack damage value.)

If you roll a 6, you've grabbed:

User Image
Bedpan

A normal, plastic bedpan. Why are you carrying this around, again?

(Roll 1 4-sided dice for attack damage value.)

If you arrive late (after our next post), feel free to roll 1-6 in your first prompt response to receive your weapon.

The next post will occur at 6pm!

Julian Laurence - phone w/ cord

This was absurd.

He didn't know why he was here, on this tour, when he had little to no interest in the whole affair as it was. Julian had fulfilled his duties as a stand in for the orchestra, after all, and he'd gone straight home after the evening was over. The only reason he had allowed himself to return was to return the rented tuxedo back to the conductor, whom he'd thought was still at the hospital.

He wasn't. And now Julian was stuck on this blasted, damn tour, in some dark corner of the hospital who knew where. The intern who was leading them was some dithering, confused looking fellow who Julian doubted was very well informed, and -

- and now they were standing in the dark. Great.

Julian's head snapped up as the loudspeakers crackled to life. The voice that boomed out was unfamiliar, snide, confident; Julian would have guessed arrogant, or maybe even mocking, but it was hard to tell when the loudspeaker was hardly more than a fuzzy rendition of someone else's voice.

General Obsidian. Julian did not recognize the name, or the female voice that followed, but he certainly knew what those two things combined meant. Someone of the Negaverse, keeping them all trapped in this damned place, until they could manage to get out.

If they managed to get out. Julian made a noise of disgust.

"Ridiculous," he muttered, stalking around the darkened room, trying to rummage around or anything that might be useful. He could hear the intern's voice wobbling towards him, unsteady and afraid, but Julian was not about to be bothered with that. His fingers closed around something solid, and he tugged hard until it loosened, something whacking against his leg in the process.

His hands smoothed over it, trying to figure out what it was. A phone, by the touch, with a cord still attached. Well, not perfect, but better than nothing. Julian wrapped part of the cord around his wrist and held the phone and the other end of the cord, putting his free hand out to try and find the wall, or the stairs, or somewhere.

"Does anyone know their way around?" He said loudly, sounding entirely unamused by the entire thing. "I'd like to get the hell out of here, if anyone cares about that at all."

Austen Stella Rue - IV pole

Somewhere among the rest of the crowd, Austen said, sounding much too bright for someone who had been thrown into a whole lot of dark, "Oi! Anyone got any ideas? Anyone know who this - General Obsidian fella is? I've never heard of him before, but it doesn't sound pretty."

She was relatively sure she probably was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Austen swung her long hair around and lifted her hands, messily tying back the long, multicolored strands into a ponytail just to get it out of her face, and then knelt down, patting the cold ground. She couldn't really see anything, but -

"Ow. Bugger."

She'd managed to jab her hand into something sharp. Shaking it out, Austen felt upwards, fingers wrapping around something long and clearly metal. It made a tinking noise as she pulled it up, and Austen fumbled at the top, trying to figure out what it was.

Some sort of pole. She couldn't see well enough to know.

"Well, good enough," Austen said aloud.

Caleb had been rather excited to go on the hospital tour…though he wasn’t quite sure why anyone would want to tour a hospital. But…he had signed up for it, so he figured that he should at least go, what was the harm in that, right? When the tour started, things seemed…they seemed okay. Kind of strange…the fact that they went to a boiler room…what did anyone have to do in a boiler room, but honestly, the tour guide seemed to be confused and upset and while Caleb was somewhat annoyed…he felt bad for the guy.

He was on the cusp of moving closer and offering a nice word or thought to try to cheer this Thomas up…when suddenly there was a voice coming over the intercom that sent a chill up Caleb’s spine.

…Wait…wait…General…oh…

So he had gotten himself into some sort of awful trap and now he had to struggle to get the heck out. Well. This…

This was fine.

See, these were perfectly good reasons why he used to just stay in the lab. Stay in the lab and just…avoid the world. Avoid things like…like this.
When the poor terrified looking Thomas stuttered that they should grab something to use as a weapon, Caleb went over and grabbed the first thing he could…a phone with a cord…well. Well.

It was something, at least. A small comfort.

Jordan Riley - Scalpel, 1d6 damage

The lights - the lights - there was nothing to be afraid of, except there was, because it was Destiny City and people were always, always dying. Stupid, stupid, Jordan thought; of course this wouldn't be good, of course they couldn't do something they were half-vaguely interested in, because it'd all go badly. Thomas' whimpering and shivering was getting on their nerves.

There was no question about it, really; the scalpel was shiny even through dust and grunge, and it fit so cleanly to their hand. It'd cut. They'd thought about this, before, but medicine had never held any appeal.

The world was so dark around them. Twenty others, counting Thomas' 'leadership' (what kind of leader was he, what kind of mess was he to put them in the god damn boiler room instead of the operating rooms, which would have been nice and pristine and clean) despite their best wishes; nineteen other various miscreants stuck like lambs for the slaughter. Well. Jordan didn't intend to be a lamb for some fool military experiment; but they'd see how severe this was. One or two odd monsters was nothing. A horde, a bunch of living people with murder in their eyes? It would be less than pleasant. But there were plenty of bodies here. Jordan wanted to live.

Rhiannon Beaumont

Why the boiler room was part of the tour, Rhiannon had no idea, but she knew things were getting bad the moment the lights flickered and the voice came over the intercom.

She didn’t know any General Obsidian, but it was obvious that things were going to get bad fast. The best thing she could do as a civilian was to arm herself, so she picked up the first thing she could find. She didn’t know how much she could do with the small blade, but it was better than nothing.

[Kailey O'Carroll {Broken Wheelchair Fragment}]

She'd gone along with this for shits and giggles. Figuring, hey, if she donated to the facility, might as well check it out right? See what her money was going towards? That'd been the idea anyways, when she headed in to the tours. Her fancy attire from the gala was left back at her apartment, switched for regular jeans, sneakers, and a tee in the comfortable Spring air.

The intern they'd been assigned to for the tour made her nervous just watching his nervous ticks, and she shifted from foot to foot as they all lined up and headed out. Great. Not that she minded an intern showing them around versus a nurse or doctor, but they couldn't have grabbed someone who wasn't so... finicky?

Now and then she thought she saw a blur of black out of the corner of her eye, and her gaze narrowed in speculation, slowly falling further behind the group as she kept an eye out for the source. Of course, when they got into the elevator, squished together, she figured that perhaps that'd be the end of that. Or so she figured. Had that been something against her leg, or was that just another person on the tour hitting her?

In the basement, Kailey had laughed a bit--ok at the poor intern's expense--and had given a critical eye to the state of the boiler room. Historical significance? Her a**. This place was a dump. Look, there was even s**t piled--- "What the hell?"

The lights going out, and then the subsequent announcement, had her hackle raised and she pressed a hand against her pocket where a specific pen was stored. "The hell kinda s**t is this? Didn't realize I was signing up for a Halloween special."

When others began to shift through the dumped and broken supplies, she did similar, coming up with a freaking... broken arm of a wheelchair? She stared at it, deadpanning at how it was a makeshift shield of all things. Cosmic coincidence, really?

She quickly stepped back from the group, scanning the warped shadows in the dim light, hissing softly, "Hani, that you?"

Assuming the little moving shadows were. Y'know. Friendly.

(( Rolling for Rayna's weapon ))

So the boiler room was actually a tour stop. Rayna arched an eyebrow as they descended to the room following a man named Thomas. The teen had to wonder who was in charge of picking which sections of the hospital were to be part of the tour. Shaking her head but not actually saying anything that would indicate her dismay Rayna curbed the impatience. Apparently the tour had been supposed to go somewhere else.

Shaking her head at the nervous intern Rayna let herself take in the darkened interior of the boiler room and noted the pile of discarded items. There was a urge to explore the darkened corners in search of interesting objects and yet as the power flickered and then died Rayna kept herself still as complete darkness washed over the boiler room. It was moments later that the emergency lights came on and Rayna found herself grabbing a item from the discarded items and pulled out a phone and broken cord. "Well that is helpful."

In regarding the message that had played moments before Rayna grimaced in understanding. The Negaverse , it figures. Going back to how she felt after donating blood Rayna had to wonder if that was due to Nega involvement too.

Nadia was having fun for the most part. She thought it was going to be fun to get a nice tour but now she wasn't so sure. The voice over the loudspeaker had her spooked and she searched around for something to use as a weapon. There were plenty of people in the group who looked just as concerned as she did but that didn't put her worry to rest.

Reaching around she finally found an oxygen tank that was basically too big for her to even lift but she managed to pick it up and cling it to her close. "What do you think is going to happen?" She asked the closest person to her.

Jada Chamberlyn - Phone Cord & Phone Grabbed

Jada had come expecting some nice, awesome tour. She had come expecting to see a shiny new hospital, bright and lovely and pristine. Instead, she was seeing a terribly nervous intern and a trash heap. What the actual-

What had they done with her donation?

The answer, unfortunately, was solved with the loudspeaker appearance of the <********> Negaverse.

Figures. Why did she bother wondering anymore? When something smelled funny, it was always those bastards.

Normally, she might have gone for something a bit more... impressive. But Jada Chamberlyn wouldn't have half a clue of how to wield anything more deadly than a phone, and so that was what she grabbed, making a face at it and stiffening her spine.

Examining her companions. At least she seemed to have some good ones.

Gweneth Malley -
(Broken IV Pole)

Gwen had decided to sign up for the tour of the hospital out of pure curiosity and lack of anything better to do. After all, it was a new local hospital and there was always the chance she’d find herself here for one reason or another. Might as well get a good gander of the place and see what sort of high-tech gear they brought with them. Of course, she hadn’t thought the beginning of the tour would start in the boiler room, and by their poor tour guides high-strung, nervous ticks, he hadn’t planned on it either. Really, he could have just brushed it off as a mistake and took them up to the right level without trying to make it seem like he had intended to bring them down here.

Though, for such a new building it sure was old….ah...Thomas answered the question as she thought it. Of course that was the cue for the lights to go out and an eerie voice to come over the loudspeaker.

Jeasus ******** christ could the negaverse just not ******** with them for once? Was that so damn hard to ask? Even a sacred place like a hospital wasn’t off limits which said something about the faction as she was sure people from their side surely had to visit one from time to time with the amount of scuffles and fights that occurred.

With Obsidian having finished his little speech Gwen turned her attention to their guide. He looked ready to lead them in a direction out of the hospital before stopping to grab something from a large rubbish pile. Ah. A weapon. Not a bad idea. Gwen glanced around and grabbed her own broke IV pole from another pile and held it in her hands. It wasn’t too terribly different from her incense burner. At least she had that bit of experience with a bludgeoning item. God, if only she could power up.

It hit her then. This whole thing felt like some twisted version of The Hunger Games.

May the odds be ever in their favor.

Weapon in hand, it's time for you to begin your adventure out of this place. State of the art facility or not, it's clearly been seized by the Negaverse and you didn't sign up for that!

The boiler room is ominously silent, the rows of boilers looming in the dim light. They could be hiding something, but who knows what? You can also see the elevator that you took to get down here in the first place, and a closer examination reveals that the buttons are still lit. That must mean it's got power!

Thomas swallows nervously and points towards a door that you didn't notice hidden on the side of the room. "W-We should be able to get out that way..."

Do you:

Option One
Investigate the boilers.

Option Two
Try the elevator.

Option Three
Check the side door.
