Every month the WNN network will put out with blurbs summarizing major events within the world. These news stories are a matter of public record and so long as your character reads them or looks at the archives they will have the provided knowledge of those major events. Note that if you’re looking to maybe make your character a little more unique, searching through past events categorized in the paper may be a good place to seek information on meaningful events that may have impacted your character.

Spring - Month 2, Broadcast

Cheryl Anderson: It’s been a busy couple days in New Brockton. Police today are investigating a brutal killing after a groundskeeper at a local cemetery found an unexpected new addition to his graveyard.

Gregory Adams, caretaker at New Brockton’s Memorial Gardens Cemetery, called NBPD early yesterday morning after finding a body in the open grave he’d prepared for a funeral the next day.

Cut to footage of Adams: “Uhh, you know, I was just doing my rounds like I do every night. It was, well, maybe 2am, 3am - something like that. It was raining really hard all afternoon, and I came out to make sure the hole we’d dug the day before wasn’t collapsing or anything like that. And uhh, that’s when I peered down in there and saw the body. Now, I’m no fool, I’m not gonna go climbing in a pit like that all by myself in the rain, so I just called the cops cause I didn’t know what in the world was happening.”

Cheryl Anderson: While the deceased has not been identified, police have confirmed the victim to be a high school aged girl, with silver eyes, and black and red hair. Though no details about the murder itself were given, Terrence Walton, an NBPD detective assigned to the case, had this to say to reporters:

Cut to footage of Walton: “Well, we’re really not ready to talk about details right now, so I can’t confirm or deny anything about what specifically happened. I will say that we’re not ruling out this being a sexual assault or domestic violence type situation. We’re really not ruling out anything at all right now, it’s just too early. Right now, though, this does seem like an isolated incident - I can confirm we don’t have a reason to believe this is part of something bigger. That said, if anyone out there knows anything, or saw anything, we encourage them to call Crime Stoppers or our official NBPD hotlines.”

Cheryl Anderson: We’ll be providing more coverage as the story unfolds, but for now we’ll throw the ball to Phil Summers, who’s on the ground in New Brockton covering a breaking story. Phil.

Phil Summers: Thanks Cheryl. You can’t tell because it’s light out right now, on a beautiful spring day here downtown, but a large swath of New Brockton behind me was actually dark last night thanks to what was believed to be a botched raid on New Brockton’s West side.

Now, officials have a different story about the raid and what happened, but what we do know for sure is that late last night New Brockton PD, and elite special task force units under the Dragon’s Teeth banner, took part in a joint operation that downed power across much of the western portion of the city. According to NBPD officials, the raid, which was targeting a highly hostile cell of organized villains, was drawn into an electrical substation nearby as members of the group fled from law enforcement. Police Chief James Carrizales says no one was hurt, and I believe we have footage from his press conference just about thirty minutes ago.

Cut to footage of Carrizales: “At approximately 8:53pm last night, NBPD officers, accompanied by members of Dragon’s Teeth, raided a warehouse in west New Brockton in pursuit of a criminal cell associated with the Hellhounds. During the course of the operation we experienced an unplanned expansion of scope, and in the process a nearby electrical substation was damaged, resulting to loss of power to the surrounding area.

“We’re happy to report that the operation was a success, and that no NBPD personnel were injured during the course of our actions. I’ll now take a few questions. Yes, down in the front.

Phil Summers: Now, while we couldn’t get much in the way of details about what exactly happened, and we don’t expect to learn more before they get the power back online, Chief Carrizales did stop to answer a few questions, including what residents can expect in the coming days.

Cut to footage of Carrizales: “Yeah... uh... Stev- Steve, Steve let me stop you right there. If you want information about Dragon’s Teeth’s involvement in this operation you’ll have to ask them. I don’t have the authority to disclose information about their officers or speak on their behalf, but if they’re anything like us I’m sure they’re pleased with the results of the operation as a whole.

“Yes, right over here. Phil. Mhm... totally understandable. We understand it, we totally do, really. It’s not fun being without power, and we obviously would have loved if we never had to enter the substation to begin with, but I think you need to look at the operation as a whole and the fact that there are now fewer villains on the streets. At the end of the day that’s the most important thing, New Brockton, as a city is safer, if slightly less air conditioned, than it was this time last night and we’re happy with that result.

“Last one, yes, right there? How long until the power is back on? Is that what he asked? Yeah, okay. From what I’ve heard right now it’s hard to tell. This was a municipal substation, but they’re working with Argent Energy and we’re hoping to have things back up by sometime tomorrow or the day after at the latest. I’m not an electrician, I can barely get a plug into the socket half the time, so I can’t tell you how bad the damage was or anything like that, and I’ll uh, I’ll defer to those guys, on that.

“Thanks for your time everyone, and stay safe.”

Cheryl Anderson: Certainly an unfortunate series of events there, Phil, but thankfully everyone seems to come out of it no worse for wear. I’m sure the people of New Brockton are happy to see their men and women in uniform striving to keep the city safe.

We turn now to our featured story. More than 100 years after the fateful events that brought about their creation, The Wardens are set to celebrate a century of achievement. To talk about what makes the world’s oldest organization of capes so resilient, her best selling book, and everything in between, we welcome...

Summer - Month 1 - Online Articles

Vigil for Slain Teen
Following the brutal murder of high school student Tara Zirnitra nearly two months ago a candle light vigil is set to be held this Saturday at Mercy High School on the football field in honor of the slain girl. In the wake of her death, there was an out pouring of support from Tara's former teammates on both the soccer and track team, as well as from other student athletes. The vigil was organized by Elidor Lyons, a current student at the school, and Derek Thompson the deceased's former boyfriend. Set to start at 7:30 pm the vigil will honor Tara Zirnitra's achievements at the school and provide a place to start healing for the many students that surely feel as if a piece of their community was ripped way from them. The NBPD had no comments to provide on the state of the investigation into the girl's murder and as such the suspect is presumed to be still at large.

NYC Crime Watch
A rash of carjackings and other thefts have cropped up within the city of New York. At many of the crime scenes a calling card of a red hand was left behind, and our online team was able to uncover postings online from the alleged criminal behind the incidents. Police were unwilling to provide a comment at this time. Although sources inside the precinct indicated the crimes were being investigated a recent shooting had taken precedence and the use of active police resources. Sources say that sixteen individuals were shot and at least three were dead at the scene. The rest were taken to the hospital and at least seven of them are listed as being in critical condition. Information is scarce at present but rumor has it that the shooting occurred within a place well known by the locals to be connected with the drug trade.

Missing Children
Recently reports of missing children have been on the rise in the Manhattan area of New York City. At present there is no indication whether or not the disappearances are connected. However there is rising concern among local residents that something sinister is going on and requests for increased police attention is moving from quiet requests to out right protests. Janelle Montague, is one such parent and we caught up with her outside her 5th avenue home...
