- People with superpowers, capes in the popular consciousness but more formally called parahumans. Para meaning more than or next to, nominally conveying a meaning of more human. An eerily on point description if there ever was one as these parahumans are people with unimaginable abilities and yet at the same time are still only human. Some chose to try and step up to provide a new example for humanity while others exploited their new found abilities for personal gain. As it turned out superheroes and supervillains didn’t really work like they did in the comic books, capes are in reality more shades of gray than anything else as corruption and a looming disaster worked behind the scenes until it all culminated into a single eventuality.
Gold Morning, it was an event that irrevocably changed our world and many other worlds for that matter. The man who had at one time been seen as our saviour became our destroyer. In the end humanity as a species across multiple parallel worlds was saved but not before a heavy price was paid. In the aftermath humans pulled ourselves from the ashes and carried forward despite the loss of billions of lives and the destruction of so much in the process. One hundred years has passed since that cataclysm and though humanity is still much smaller than it was we’ve bounded back exceptionally well. Despite everything that happened, not much has changed. In many ways we’ve reverted to how we used to be: selfish, stubborn, and stupid. Despite that humanity trudges onward into a new future. Though perhaps this time around we’ll learn something.
