The street is lined with shops and even some venders that are looking to sell products you may not find anywhere else. It's a busy area with foot traffic going to and fro. Lights line the street at night to make it easier for people to see and less crime happening. The main Street leads from one end of town to the other, but many other roads and alleyways branch off from it to lead travelers to other spots and destinations.

Rosa. Rosa the alarm is going off.
Nnnnnnoooooo... No it's not... Shut it off...
Far down the street, nearly to the other side of town from the maddeningly large crowds from the day before, Rosa sat at her stall. It was a small, simple, plainly adorned thing, only loosely definable as a "stall". It had a tent-like, open air canopy above it, allowing Rosa to avoid the worst of the heat of the day. She had a moderately sized foam cooler at the back, filled with ice, drinks, and food. The entirety of the inside of the square shaped stall was covered in beach towels, sewn together into a makeshift rug. She sat upon a large pile of pillows, and held a fan in her left hand, cooling herself as best she could.
A simple wooden sign outside read:
"Enchantment Services Offered Here! Inquire Inside!"
"No Curses or Compulsions."
"Water Bottles sold here."
Rosa? Rosa, come on, answer me. I know you can hear me.
No. Tired. Lemme sleep.

Waves of heat rolled across the land, visible to the naked eye. The throng of people traversing the city only added to the constrictive nature of the heat. "Blegh." A teenager with ravens-purple-blue hair trudged through the gathered crowds. Her shoulders slumped forward, arms hanging down in front of her, as her head drooped down. "Why is it so hooot?" Kaya Hisakata groaned. Sweat beaded down either side of her temples. "It's just that time of year." Her dark-haired Exceed, a young fellow named Kokuei, answered with a shrug. His fur felt like it was one thousand degrees from the sun beating down on it. But he chose to suffer in silence there wasn't anything he could do about it. Peering sideways at her, his crimson gaze turned inquisitive. "Why did you pick that job anyway?"
"Eh?" Kaya rolled her head slightly so she could look at him. "Because it seemed fun. I didn't think it'd be this hot." "Mhmm." Kokuei hummed, facing forward again. As the sun headed towards its zenith, the heat became even more intense and unbearable. "I could really go for some water." The duo had passed several stores by that time, but none of them sold any drinks, having been mostly clothing stores and such. They soon found themselves on the other side of town. There weren't quite as many shops in this portion of town. Smaller stalls, likely family-run or privately owned, had taken their place. It was as Kaya dragged herself past one such stall that a simple wooden sign caught her eye. Or rather, to be more specific, the words 'Water Bottles sold here' drew her attention. "Water!" She perked up instantly at the promise of the cherished liquid, immediately diverting into the quaint stall. Kokuei was hot on her heels.
Upon entering the area, Kaya's ice blue orbs quickly found the shop's keeper sitting on a large pile of pillows. "Six water bottles please!" She held out her hands with the appropriate number of fingers showing, a broad grin lighting her features. Glancing down at her friend, she asked, "What about you, Ko?" "J-just one for me please." The male feline smiled shyly at the girl. He didn't often speak much in front of strangers unless talking directly to the Water Dragon Slayer. He was simply too shy. A stark contrast to the boisterous demeanor of the girl beside him. That's not to say, however, that he couldn't be talkative when he wanted to be. "Seven waters then please!" The teenager added another finger to her hand-held count. ☽❄ ████████████████████████████████████████████████ ❄☾

Nnnnnnoooooo... No it's not... Shut it off...
As the girl approached, Rosa's head canted as a smile crossed her face. Confidence, joy, and... boredom. A simple need? Hungry, maybe? But the smell of the various food booths wafting by told her that the girl would have had every opportunity to find something edible elsewhere. So, thirst or a bathroom.
I vote water. She isn't walking oddly or darting back and forth. So... I bet she wants a drink!
Yeah... that tracks. Let's see what happens What's the bet?
We'll figure it out later. Wait. How are we betting on the same thing, and against who? Meh... questions for a later time!
And then she opened her mouth and spoke. Something fluttered in Rosa's stomach, and her head tilted back to a normal alignment. There was a faint hint of blush to her cheeks, but she could definitely play it off as the heat. The girl asked for six waters, and then the exceed asked for one.
Oh my god it's adorable. Tell her the water's free if she sits down for a minute. You need to pet that cat for me.
...the cat is cute. And they seem... tired? Okay, I'll give it a shot!
Yes. Yes he is. And so is she. I saw that blush of yours! Play it smooth, little lady. Play it smooth!
Rosa smiled, nodded, and leaned behind herself to the cooler and dug around. The bottom of her stomach fell a bit. As she turned back, the only had five bottles. "I'm so, so, so sorry, but I only have five. Please, accept my condolences. As an apology, please, sit with me here in the shade for a bit? It's really hot out. Aaannnnd... water is half off if you accept my offer, Ms...?" She rolled her hand a little to accentuate a small shift in tone of her voice. Hopefully the girl would offer her name first, if this ploy worked.
And the Exceed behind her... it was just so... shy. It reminded her of a younger version of herself. She instantly felt the need to get to know it better. But she had to play it carefully, or she'd scare it and the girl off. They seemed... nice. Good. They didn't seem to bear any malice, greed, or open darkness on their sleeves. It was refreshing, to say the least. There was just a sense of liveliness to them both.
Rosa? Rosa, come on, answer me. I know you can hear me.
No. Tired. Lemme sleep.

There was a brief second of silence. Then a bright grin lit upon the teenager's face as she registered the other's offer to sit and cool off in the shade. "Okay!" She declared cheerfully, not wasting a second in plopping down on the large pile of pillows. The Dragon Slayer left enough room between herself and the red-head to be able to lay on her back and stretch out while also giving Kokuei room to sit. "K-Kaya..." Kokuei blushed. His tail twitched anxiously as his crimson eyes darted from Rosa to the ground and back again. "I think...she asked your name." The dark-haired Exceed whispered, walking to the pillows so he would be closer to his friend again, peering sideways at the red-head though looking away quickly whenever she would watch.
"Hmm?" Kaya lifted her head up. A bleary expression already upon her features. She had gotten so comfortable that she nearly dozed off. "Oh!" Lips curved up in a broad smile again when she spotted the forgotten water still resting in the girl's hands. "Name's Kaya! And this lil' guy is Kokuei!" The ravens-purple-blue-haired teenager introduced while taking hold of the bottles. Handing one to Kokuei, she opened all four of hers and immediately started guzzling them all at once. The coolness of the liquid was refreshing as it rolled down her parched throat. She could feel her magic replenish along with her hydration. "Ahhhhh." Kaya let out a satisfied sigh. "That hit the spot. Thanks!" ☽❄ ████████████████████████████████████████████████ ❄☾

See, what'd I tell you? Nice and smooth, little Rosie. Now, don't mess this one up!
Oh my god... you like this one, don't you? What, is she your type? Hehehehe...
Rosa nodded her head and reached into the cooler, pulling out her personal bottle. It was a refillable water canteen, one of the temperature retaining sorts. She unscrewed the lid and took a mouthful herself. She noticed the Exceed glancing at her, but it quickly looked away from her, playing the same shy little game she used to play with people she didn't know. It was comforting to know she wasn't the only one.
Unluckily for the Exceed, its shyness made its emotions waft through like a slightly turned strawberry. Still sweet, lovely, and fragrant, but the crisp, fresh airiness of the sensation was hidden. She doubted it was lost entirely, but something meant it was not bare to the world. As Kaya introduced herself and the small winged cat, Rosa nodded and smiled. "A pleasure to meet you both! I'm Rosa, and I'm the proprietor of this stall. Your names are lovely, by the way. And thanks little... Kokuei, right? Sorry, I'm not sure about what I should call people by when I just meet them..." She closed her eyes, tilted her head, and scratched the back of it, as if not sure of how to behave.
Kaya's aura, interestingly, flared to life as she drank the water. It wasn't an obvious battle flare up, but it was just far enough above subtle that Rosa could sense and track it. The effect went further than just the primitive, instinctive boost in strength the body gets when it is given the thing it needs. There was something almost... magical to it. It even rippled into her soul, reflecting in her emotions as a nearly visible ripple of simple, pure, emotional and physical pleasure.
That's a new one. I guess she really has a thing for water...
That... or she has water magic too? I don't know. Look at her drink though...
Oh good lord... do you only ever think about food, sex, pretty girls, and keeping me safe?
Well, sometimes I think about how nice it would be to have a body again. I think the first thing I'd do is take a nice, hot, bubbly bath.
Rosa paused, and externally, her face turned to a slightly perturbed, almost upset look as she gazed into the middle distance of her pillow stack. She didn't realize it when she said it, but she accidentally spoke out loud instead of just inwardly. "I wish I could do more for you..."
It took her a full few seconds to realize it had been said out loud. In front of people she'd just met. It had been said as a half whisper, honestly, but she figured the Exceed had likely heard her. She really hoped they hadn't heard or wouldn't ask her about what she'd said.
Rosa? Rosa, come on, answer me. I know you can hear me.
No. Tired. Lemme sleep.
