Rediscovering herself was something Nenet never dreamed she would need to do. She had always been so sure, so confident of her persona. Nenet was gifted with self-awareness, and because of that gift had never stopped to consider whether or not she was on the right path for HER. The frilly dresses and the short hair just weren't doing it anymore. Nenet felt stifled by her younger self's expression of their inner self. So, Nenet let her hair grow long, let the natural curl form instead of trying to tame it with short, pixie cuts. Instead of lolita dresses and cute accessories, Nenet now wore jeans and t-shirts. She let her facial hair grow out instead of always closely shaving. She felt more complete. More like who she was always meant to be.
Finally, she felt attractive. She had stopped fooling herself, stopped forcing herself to be what her adoptive mother wanted her to be. She just wasn't in to the frills and make-up, as much as her mother wanted her to be. Now when Nenet looked in to the mirror, she saw someone she was proud to be. Her mother eventually got over it, understood and accepted Nenet's 'sudden' shift in personally and wardrobe, but in the end, her mother knew that Nenet needed to be herself. Nothing else was more important then accepting who you truly were. If that meant long hair and dark painted nails, then so be it!
Nenet was happy, and that was really all that mattered.
