Shortly after leaving Victor and his monstrous creation, the Empress made her way to the castle courtyard. It was as chilly as always, a consequence of having the castle in the shadows of the mountain. It meant sunlight, one of Evelyn's greatest weaknesses was not a detriment to her health in her own home. Not that the sun was much of a problem anyway at this hour; though the evening brought an even lower temperature with it. She also did not stay for long either, wishing to get a move on with her tight schedule. Here she met with the knight, Alex, to discuss reinforcing security for the castle and the surrounding area. It seemed they could use more “manpower” to enact the type of plan Evelyn came up with. She vowed to supply the soldiers while he made the preparations for battle. Once she saw him to his own tasks, the empress found herself making a hasty retreat to her chambers.

Overcome by a dizzy spell she took a moment to recollect herself in private. Leaning on her desk, the woman hung her head with eyes closed until she could no longer feel the spinning. When she looked up, she could she her crimson red eyes glowing in the glass before fading to their natural dull appearance. A strand of hair fell before her face, the blonde tucking it back into place as a knock came at her door. Evelyn hesitated before motioning for the door to be opened. Outside her door there were two suits of armor stationed that barred the door with their weapons, prohibiting entry. Naturally, she controlled these empty husks with her Shadow Magic as a sort of security measure. Once they raised their weapons, the guest would be permitted entry upon Evelyn's call. When the queen saw who it was, it suddenly made sense who would be here now. Iris, one of her knights, whom she requested to see as soon as possible. The girl was very skilled in the art of medicine and was thus responsible for filling that role in the guild. She made the infirmary her personal quarters and seemed happy to treat others. Though it was hard for Evelyn to discern the girl's feelings; at times she apparent with her feelings, but other times she could be as silent and cryptic as Skal. Perhaps that was why she was so taken with the wolf?

The girl didn't hesitate long before speaking up. "Your Majesty. You summoned me?" she asked with head bowed. "...Yes. With war upon us, I wish to keep our medical supplies and provisions stocked. I need a full inventory of what we have and what we don't so we can procu- ...Huh..." Evelyn cut herself off, finding herself short of breath. She could feel Iris' gaze on her, but would not be given a chance to ask. Shaking her head and holding up her hand to cut her off, the blonde would sigh. "I'm quite alright. No need for concern..." she assured the knight. The look on her face wouldn't tell Evelyn if she believed her or not; however, it didn't seem she was going to pry. "...Good, well... After you've compiled a list, meet with Renata to have everything taken care of. This takes priority above everything else, understand?" Iris would nod and respond with a confirmation...and then after a brief pause speak up again. "Is that...all you would ask of me?" she asked, still bowed and eyes closed. Perhaps she was hard to read, but it was obvious here she concerned about her health. Evelyn shook her head, smiling a little. "...As a matter of fact...why don't you take a look at Rosa. It seems she's had an unfortunate...'accident' with Nebula." "Ah, Rosa? ...I will see to her." With permission, Iris would be dismissed, swiftly leaving out the door which the "guards" would block again with their tools. As soon as she was gone, the empress folded her arms and huffed, her eyes flickering bright red.

Rosa. Rosa the alarm is going off.
Nnnnnnoooooo... No it's not... Shut it off...

It turned out there was no need for Iris to come find Rosa. The girl rocketed up the hall towards Evelyn's door, barely pivoting out of the way of the healer she'd come to think of as a friend and mentor in the last year. "Sorry Iris!! You okay?" The girl turned in midair, her back to Evelyn's door, and a pair of large white wings spread out behind her. She radiated fury and anger, but none of it was directed to Iris. In fact, the healer would feel only concern and mild guilt directed at her. On her chest, Rosa's signature cross was burning her skin slightly, though she seemed not to notice.

Rosa? Rosa, come on, answer me. I know you can hear me.
No. Tired. Lemme sleep.

IRIS Not moments after leaving the queen's chambers, the very person she sought out would appear before her. She didn't flinch even a little as the girl nearly flew into her, her expression as stoic as always. Iris turned to look at the girl as she stopped to apologize. But she looked at the girl, observing her from head to toe. Starting from the bottom, the girl's legs were solid gold - definitely Nebula's handiwork as the empress told her. But that wasn't all the woman saw. On the girl's chest, her pendant seemed to be inflicting burns on her chest, the first time she'd seen it do such a thing. Lastly, in her face, Iris could see exhaustion, both physically, mentally and if her radiating feelings were any indication, emotionally as well. Reaching out to take the girl's hand, she would attempt to pull her closer. "I'm fine. You don't seem to be though." Rosa was one of the few people she interacted with in the guild on a personal level. Most either kept their distance or only spoke with her when they needed help. The redhead; however, was somewhat of a student who sought to learn medicine from her. She also seemed to care about her to some degree so Iris had established an attachment of sorts. And in their time spent together, she had come to learn a lot about the empath; her motivations and temperament. As she was now, flying in such a state toward Evelyn's chambers...she could only deduce trouble. Though the blonde wouldn't express what, Iris was aware she was not well and probably shouldn't be approached as such. "...Rosa, you seem hostile going toward the queen's chambers. Now...isn't a good time. If you come with me, I think I can fix your legs. And..." she trailed off, slowly reaching out to touch the girl's pendant.

Rosa. Rosa the alarm is going off.
Nnnnnnoooooo... No it's not... Shut it off...

When Iris took her hand and pulled her a bit closer, Rosa blinked in surprise. She wasn't used to having people willingly touch her, and the unexpected act threw her for a bit of a loop. The wings behind her beat idly, keeping her hovering in front of the healer. "Me? Oh. The legs, yeah... Neb had an accident with her magic when I was healing her. I'm not too worried about it." Finally, she began feeling the layers of concern from Iris. About her health? Yes, but not just because of her feet... Iris was worried about more than just the physical. And... there was deep worry for Evelyn. Without a word, before Iris even spoke about their leader, Rosa looked at the door to Evelyn's chamber. There was disarray there. Turmoil and instability in a heart... but the blonde still seemed to be radiating surety and confidence about herself and everything around her.

The redhead turned back as Iris spoke, her expression a mixture of fury and exhaustion, and need. Not a need for anything physical, but for answers. For truth. As the woman reached for the necklace Rosa wore, she would feel no pain or scorching heat. Just a soft, comforting, unsteady warmth. Before her hand touched it, however, Rosa gently put her hand in Iris's own, stopping her from touching it. "Please don't... that's one of the only things I have from my father... I... I get a little protective of it... as for Evelyn... Iris, I need to talk to her. That's all. I'm not going to start a fight, but what I saw in Mizuki's memory... it..." Her breath came in more ragged, quick bursts, accompanied by tears forming in the corners of her eyes, and a bitter, angrier tone in her voice. She was silent for a moment as she tried to regain her composure, and when she spoke again, it seemed she could manage only an angry whispering. "Iris... she killed a woman in front of her son! A woman who'd done her no wrong... I have to know why. Come in with me if you want to... but I'm not stopping." Without waiting for an answer, Rosa turned, letting go of Iris's hand and knocked forcefully on the door three times.

Rosa? Rosa, come on, answer me. I know you can hear me.
No. Tired. Lemme sleep.

Iris was unable to deter the girl from going to the Empress' chambers. After what she told her, she understood why she felt the way she did. Personally, the healer chose to turn a blind eye to things such as this. Not because of her loyalty to the queen, but rather her loyalty to Skal. Rosa, whether she feigned ignorance or was unaware of the darker dealings, this incident seemed to strike a chord with her. And it wasn't that she didn't trust her or believe her when she said she didn't want to start a fight. However, the queen did not seem to be in her right state of being, that which prompted Iris to follow along. She was concerned for Rosa's well being and would protect her if it came to it. When the redhead knocked on the door with such force, the door creaked open as if to welcome the girl in. Iris on the other hand would notice something amiss in the way the suits that usually guard the door hadn't moved. Keeping her guard up, she cautiously approached the door but didn't enter.

In the room, Rosa would see Evelyn with her back turned slightly facing the window on the other side of the room. She was mumbling to herself and uncharacteristically biting her thumb. If anyone had particularly sharp hearing they would hear her mumbling some phrase over and over, in a language that was completely foreign and had been for some centuries. The empath would feel several emotions emanating off her person: turmoil and instability was there, but there was also a growing feeling of malice and desire. That malice and desire was slowly becoming a veil over her heart as it began to cloud her feelings of concern and composure. Evelyn stood completely still aside from the chewing of her thumb; an action that would cease the moment the girl stepped inside. The moment she had, that haze would start to recede as she realized who had entered. "...Rosa? I wasn't expecting you" she sounded puzzled and short of breath as she turned to see the handicapped girl. She last left her in the care of the princesses, so why was she here? There was anger in the girl's eyes that put Evelyn on edge. "Did...Did something happen with the princesses? What did they do?" she asked, the empress' eyes appearing to gleam in the dark.

Rosa. Rosa the alarm is going off.
Nnnnnnoooooo... No it's not... Shut it off...

Iris exuded concern and worry in spades. For Evelyn, and for herself, as it seemed. As the door opened, Rosa slipped past the armors, not disturbing them as best she could manage. She immediately felt the turmoil and uncertainty, not just with her ability, but simply from seeing Evelyn biting so at her own thumb. The empath had come to realize that it was a sign the empress was stressed and on edge. The malice and need that wrapped around her gave some inclination of why, but it wasn't entirely clear. She could not hear what was being muttered, but felt the words as heavily as she would feel a gong going off near her head. The growing desire the queen held could most accurately be described as... hunger? Thirst? Raw... need, of some sort? It faded slightly when Evelyn realized she was there. A comforting notion, if nothing else. There was confusion about something... ah, the princesses' caretaking, it seemed. "Don't worry, Lady Evelyn. My clone is with them. They're not going to be unsupervised, like you ordered." She stopped, noting that even Evelyn was aware of her anger. Part of her broke, realizing she was letting her anger rule her. This needed to be done calmly. Carefully. And then, as the light of her necklace receded, she felt the burning on her chest that she'd failed to notice the entire time.

She winced and lowered down, letting her feet touch the floor for a second. After looking around for a moment, Rosa floated over to the chair in the room, sitting down in it. As if on cue, the wings on her back dissipated, and her necklace stopped glowing. There was a nasty singe mark in the middle of her chest, but she ignored it, turning to Evelyn. Her stare was steady, determined, strong. But softer than before. "Why did you kill her, Lady Evelyn? Why kill the woman in front of her son like you did? She was powerless, had nothing to do with any guilds, and was just protecting her child..." She started her questioning angry. By the end of it, she was just radiating disappointment, confusion, and sadness.

Rosa? Rosa, come on, answer me. I know you can hear me.

Evelyn watched Rosa, settling down a bit when the girl assured her the princesses were fine. There safety was important, but her concern was more so aimed at the caretaker herself. At which point the blonde was now confused; was she not angry at something the girls had done? What else would bring such a scowl to poor Rosa's face? Seeing that accursed necklace of hers flashing, she narrowed her eyes to avoid looking directly at it. That pendant of hers had some effect on her and other Etherious which prompted Evelyn to steer clear of it. Her gaze followed the floating girl across the room to a nearby chair where she could finally sit. Did she fly all the way here? Whatever this was, it had to be urgent for Rosa to hurry over. The Empress moved closer to hear what she had to say, stopping just at the foot of her bed. Though she was surprised for the briefest of moments when Rosa began to ask questions about that woman. Surprise that vanished almost immediately as she realized from whom she heard. Mizuki. Of course she wouldn't miss the chance to sew dissension among her ranks. Perhaps she should have taken her tongue... Although, this wasn't the first time she's had to raise her hand against those who would be deemed innocent, it was the first Rosa had ever heard of it. As queen, she didn't have to explain or justify her actions to her subjects. Then again, Evelyn wasn't like most queens. "I see... My actions have upset you, hm? However, I did not plan for it; I had to resort to such a messy tactic to take control" she started to explain, then stopped to take a deep breath. "I could have easily controlled Mizuki like a puppet and forced her to come along. But controlling her will not get her cooperation. Such a ruthless and merciless act would ensure...ensure she not step out of line, for now she is well aware of the consequences. Sacrifices have to be made to achieve our goals, even if they may seem cruel." Evelyn would then take a step back and turn away, her hand reaching out for the bed post. That haze was slowly beginning to resurface in her heart and with it her eyes glowing an even brighter red. As she gripped the post, the wood would faintly crack from the pressure of her hold. And then it would stop, her eyes returning to normal as she released the post that was now damaged. Looking over her shoulder at the girl, she would continue speaking once more. "I apologize, dear... If I'm not who you thought I was; if I failed to meet your expectations. I did what I felt necessary, I make no excuse for that. But Mizuki and Chloe will play their part and do what is asked of them... That I am certain" the woman stated. As they knew what would happen if they did not.

Rosa. Rosa the alarm is going off.
Nnnnnnoooooo... No it's not... Shut it off...

She felt Evelyn's gaze. She felt her disdain for the cross she wore. The light of the cross dying out seemed to ease the blonde's overall demeanor considerably. Confusion. Curiosity. Concern for her. Fairly standard for their interactions thus far. On a personal level, Evelyn had only ever been kind, protective, and supportive of the redhead. On a professional level, she'd been fair in her assignments and even handed in the rare punishment. But this had nothing to do with either of those. When Evelyn spoke, Rosa found her ire rising as well. Take control? Hadn't planned?? SECURING COOPERATION?!?? Rosa's face didn't change. Her expression remained one of mild disappointment throughout the Empress's explanation. Sacrifices? Were the guilds not the sacrifices and the foes they sought to defeat? Rosa didn't respond for a long while, long enough even that Evelyn had time to lose her control momentarily and crack a bedpost beneath her grip. The apology at the end felt sincere, but hollow. Like it was meant to be legitimate and real, but that it would not prevent such behavior in the future. For a few moments more, Rosa was utterly silent. When she finally spoke, it was whisper quiet, and her voice trembled incredulously as her words rolled out of her mouth. "...Sacrifices you say? The real sacrifice was the woman who died to protect her child. The real sacrifice was Mizu giving herself over to protect the boy in his mother's stead... you think that sort of brutality creates compliance and cooperation? You think that slaughtering innocent people was necessary??!!? THAT'S HOW YOU MAKE ANOTHER ONE OF ME!!!" She was crying and shouting loudly, the cross on her chest shining dully from it's rest.

She'd never told anyone the full story of her near death, only pieces here and there. Only chunks of what she remembered. "...before I joined the guild... I was in a bad way. I was drinking and drugging myself to sleep most nights. Or days in some cases. Because the one person I loved and trusted in this world who was still alive died in my arms. We... we got caught in a fight between guilds. We had nothing to do with it, but I got overwhelmed by all the anger and hate and desperation... and Carmi was trying to pull me out of the area when both sides hit eachother with us in the middle. I... I...." She stopped, holding her hand over her face and sobbing into it. "She was dying in front of me, so I tried to sacrifice myself for her... it backfired, and she died instead of me... and when I came out of that coma, I tried to get the guilds punished. I tried to find who did it and got swept under the rug by the Magic Council. A 'Sacrifice' for their illusion of control and order... and now, here you are... talking about sacrifices being inevitable and necessary. You sound just like the people who cost me everything I loved!" She was sobbing uncontrollably now, unable to even bring more words to bear.

Rosa? Rosa, come on, answer me. I know you can hear me.
No. Tired. Lemme sleep.

Evelyn was silent when Rosa responded, airing her grievances. Mostly because she was allowing the girl to speak her mind and was clearly hurting. Hurt that was caused by Rosa's own painful past and how this incident was similar to her own. Of course, they are the ones who were sacrificed, but in Evelyn's eyes, their sacrifice was not in vain. Though she continued to listen to the girl as she spoke of her past of how she was caught in a fight between guilds. She was aware of her hatred of guilds, how the empath lost someone precious because of them. Though she was unaware of the things the poor girl went through afterward. Evelyn wasn't sure how to console her when she started crying, she sort of just stood there stiff as could be. However, she would have to interject when being compared to the Magic Council. "I am sorry for your loss, truly. But you are mistaken. I don't take for granted...the sacrifices I've made of others. However, I do them out of necessity, for the sake of the guild. Such 'brutality' does create compliance and cooperation, but they are reserved for my enemies. For them, I would take their heart and trample it beneath my foot without remorse" she nearly growled with furrowed brow. Taking another breath, her breathing seemed to have slowed down. She spoke calmly and somewhat remorseful, not for what she had done, but the stress and agony she had placed Rosa under. "As for the innocent bystanders... Apologies, but I cannot bring myself to care for them as you do. I simply care for those in this guild. I see this country and I see neglect. I see those who will think themselves gods but do nothing to earn such a title. I see those living in ignorant bliss while they're kicked around and taken advantage of. I don't feel sympathy for these people..." she asked rhetorically but was sincere with her speech. Turning to face Rosa once more, her eyes melancholic yet still burning bright red. "I...envy you, Rosa. To have loved and be loved. And that love...I understand and at the same time find myself unable to feel. From my birth, I was worthless to my father and my mother saw me as the tool of her revenge. I was given false love, to be used as a puppet leading to my father's death. For years, I spent running for my life from those who simply wanted to see me dead. I understand hate, anger, desperation...loneliness... And yet...I still killed that woman without hesitation and forced the same on that boy..." Even to her it didn't make much sense; perpetuating this cycle. But at the same time, she didn't much care for what became of those people. At the end of the day, she would not lose sleep or wallow in guilt for the lives she'd taken. After that, Evelyn would grow quiet once more hanging her head in a manner that would obscure her face from Rosa. As the other reason for her quietness was her attempt to maintain control. Usually she could get by with a normal diet, but every now and then, at least once a month...the call was hard to ignore. The desire... The craving...

Rosa. Rosa the alarm is going off.
Nnnnnnoooooo... No it's not... Shut it off...

Rosa sobbed and sniffled to herself quietly as Evelyn pondered, waiting patiently to see what the woman was feeling. There was compassion there, and patience. Understanding. Sympathy. Indignation at something? Ah... being compared to the magic council. As she finally responded, Rosa's gaze evened out on the middle distance, to the window. There was discompassion in her voice, but determination. Regret for how her words would affect Rosa. "...Mizuki is not compliant, deep down. She does not see that we have a noble goal... t-that we're trying to change things for the better. She sees the face of a woman as s-s-she died protecting her son. She sees evil and disdain for life... she thinks we're just another group of villains. We should be trying to sway hearts and minds! Not crush them!!! Rattle their faith, crush their confidence and make them see the wrong they're doing! But... not this..." She trailed off, sniffling in saddened disappointment.

When Evelyn started radiating envy and more remorse, Rosa could only stare at the blonde's feet in confusion. In the far background of Evelyn's heart, there was something faint, but strongly thrumming. It sounded like... the beating of a heart? Her words drowned out the beating with a staccato stabbing. Like vitriol and disinterest made into a single sound. She spoke of crushing those who weren't in the guild like they were unworthy of being saved from the system that pushed them down. "Lady Evelyn... do you understand that I am one of the citizens of this country? That until Neb found me... I was just another one of the people you 'couldn't bring yourself to care about'? I was just another neglected, abandoned, kicked around and taken advantage of citizen? Are you telling me that if you'd heard my story and I wasn't in the guild, you wouldn't have cared!?" She stared at Evelyn's eyes for a long second, then to the tip of her nose. There was, again, the remorse. But it was still lensed only for the pain she was causing Rosa. The thrumming, beating returned as both were silent for a moment. Even Rosa's sobbing and sniffling had abated. It was replaced with the pervasive, angry disappointment that she now radiated.

She wasn't sure what the hell she was going to do or say next. Evelyn was good to her. Good to the guild members. Harsh, but fair. She knew there was pain and grief and emotional isolation in her guild leader's heart... but the things that Evelyn said made Rosa grieve right alongside her. There was more pain and emotion in the blonde's words alone than Rosa had ever felt from her before. She waited patiently for Evelyn to tell her whole story, crying silently the entire time. She tried to stop crying, she really did. It didn't work. She didn't know what to say when Evelyn stopped speaking. She looked for a long while at her boss's nose. There was doubt in Evelyn's heart. Doubt about perpetuating the violence and hatred that spawned her. It was not without a tinge of guilt to accompany it, but it was overridden by determination. When Rosa spoke, it was a whisper, her voice shaky and filled with the threat of more sobbing. "...I'm so sorry for what happened to you. No one should ever... ever ever ever do that to their own child... and... and the people who did it to you deserve whatever they got. I can't imagine my parents ever treating me like that. They loved me more than anything in the world, it seemed. So much so that my mom died, taking some spell meant for me." There was an inference there that she didn't voice, and shuddered to think about, but carried on as sternly as she could. "... but... don't you see how selfish it is to just keep spreading the violence and hate that made us what we are?? We... we should be trying to be better than the people we're seeking to replace... I'm here to see the guilds cast down, and the Magic Council brought to justice for it's crimes and inadequacies. The people of this country who aren't part of those groups... I hold no ill will to." She closed her eyes for a long few moments, unsure of what to do. "Lady Evelyn... what are we even trying to accomplish here? And why? What's the point if not to take down the Magic Council and Guilds? The way you're talking about the average citizens is making me question everything we're doing here..." She looked up at Evelyn's eyes, not looking away unless Evelyn did. She was looking for any hope of the truth in Evelyn's heart. For the signs of the woman who inspired her to try to stay clean. Who inspired her to try to keep Neb clean. Who inspired her to fight for what she believed, despite what the people around her felt or said.

Rosa? Rosa, come on, answer me. I know you can hear me.
No. Tired. Lemme sleep.

Doing her best to hold back her surfacing desires, she took another deep breath. Noticeably her body was now trembling and she was trying not to look at Rosa. Evelyn feared if losing control if she kept looking at the girl; the temptation practically dangling in front of her face. Hearing what she said about Mizuki and the opinions of others as a whole would make her shake her head. "It matters not what Mizuki thinks or feels. She understands the position she's in and will do as she's told, lest she suffer the consequences. The thoughts and opinions of those hearts and minds is irrelevant so long as they support the Kingdom of Fiore. They will never...*huff* ...never see us as anything other than monsters. I take this country not to save its citizens, but to save my own" she explained. And going by Rosa's expressed feelings of the matter, it seemed the gilded legged girl didn't understand that yet. Instead, she was trying to get Evelyn to understand there were other people like the redhead who was suffering. "Yet you are here and I do care. But I understand. And they will have their chance to join us or not. This guild- this kingdom was founded on those cries for help. What I don't understand is how you still consider yourself a citizen of Fiore yet stand under our banner. You will have to choose, Rosa." There were clear sides here, as Evelyn sought to deconstruct the society the people of this country had grown accustomed to. She may sympathize with them, but to stand with them would mean to stand against her own guild. Evelyn sighed to herself, casting her eyes to the floor as she thought about her parents. Her father a malicious power hungry tyrant who only saw value in her when she began to display some level of strength. Her mother a spiteful and hateful woman who pretended to love her to gain her undying trust. Manipulated by both of them until she eventually had her father's blood on her hands. He attempted to kill her mother and she thought she was protecting her. But when all was done, it was her own mom who led the tireless hunt on her life... Even thinking about it now, the memory was clear in her mind and it caused her quite a deal of pain. Rosa tried to explain her side, how they should refrain from spreading more violence and hate. She could see she was not going to let this rest, so Evelyn decided to compromise. Though she was beginning to feel very weak... "...Very well... From now on, we will not kill the innocent citizens of this......dying country. I see little reason...or need to at this stage. However, this does not apply to the legal... *huff* ...guilds or the Magic Council. As they stand to oppose us and will be aiming to kill us...you understand?" the woman spoke between breaths. She would go on to explain to Rosa what the plan was, that which she only shared with her most trusted subordinates. "In order to take this country, the king must be dethroned. For that... *huff* ...Princess Chloe was captured in order to arrange a meeting. Princess Mizuki is for insurance; a foreign princess...ensures he won't try anything to...anger another country. As for the guilds...gathered together in one place - here. They will be annihilated in one fell swoop..." she explained. For a brief moment she would look at Rosa, making eye contact. When she did, Evelyn gasped as her eyes began to glow bright red. The woman took steps back, trying to put distance between them...before she did something she regret. "Now, Rosa... I'll have to ask you to leave... Please... I...don't want to hurt you..." Evelyn tried to plead with the girl, desperation and fear in her voice. It was becoming harder and harder to fight. Soon...she wouldn't be able to hold back. And Rosa did smell...appetizing.

Rosa. Rosa the alarm is going off.
Nnnnnnoooooo... No it's not... Shut it off...

Evelyn was struggling. She was afraid and trembling and... becoming wild. Losing control. Unraveling. Tempted. The heavier her breathing got, the stronger the desire Evelyn radiated became. Breath, after breath, after breath... heartbeat upon heartbeat. It made Rosa's mouth and throat dry. It made her stomach buck and growl in desire. Evelyn's words about Mizuki complying brought Rosa out of the false hunger's depths, but not entirely out of it. It rested near the back of her mind, her being just beneath it's surface. "Lady Evelyn, with all due respect... I am telling you she's not. She may play along just far enough to make it seem like she will comply, but the second there's even a shimmer of hope of escaping with her keys and Chloe... she will take it. She will flee and do everything she can to undermine and ruin you when she does!... to undermine us. All of us." She looked away from Evelyn, hoping to give both herself and her queen respite from the hunger that the blonde radiated. In the back of her mind, Rosa realized her cross was thrumming in a rhythm to match the beating of Evelyn's heart. Rosa's voice was soft, but full of a determination that was undeniable. "Evelyn, if they will never see us as anything but monsters, then we should be doing everything we can to make them see us as people, just like them! I... I thought we were trying to expand your kingdom. To make it someplace people like you, and Neb, and Skal could be safe from persecution... and where people like me could... could be safe. Happy. Free of the fear of guild battles... I knew it wasn't going to be a totally clean process... but... why would the people at the bottom think we're any better if we're out there slaughtering people like that boy's mother? Why would they trust us more than the current people in charge, with what we've done now?! And what will you do to them if they refuse? If they're too afraid to trust and follow you? If they see in you the same thing Mizuki does?" The tears were dripping from her eyes once more, but this time they were born of anger and disbelief, instead of grief and confusion.

When Evelyn retorted with a statement about her being here now and that she did care, Rosa groaned. Her head hung back over the chair, leaving her hair dangling and her neck exposed. She held her breath and gathered her will and bravery to look at her queen again, and as she lowered her head once more, she found Evelyn was unable to look at her. "I was born a citizen of Fiore... My mother was an outlaw in her youth, and my father a great knight who went about subduing or slaying monsters... I was raised on stories of honor and heroism... and redemption. My father taught me that anyone and everyone deserve chances at fixing their mistakes and their... sins. Sins like ours. Like... like mine. A chance to come from the bottom and make the world better... to make things right." Her breath shuddered by the end of her tirade, rough and strained. Her heart was pounding, though she had not yelled or even raised her voice.

Rosa... calm down. You're on the brink of breaking again... come on, calm down.

"But those ideals... they failed me in the real world. They didn't hold up in real life, away from the total isolation I lived in for my own protection. Where people are selfish and cruel and arrogant and hateful and deceitful and wicked... where love and hope aren't what make things happen. Where compassion and faith don't dictate how we treat others... I... Evelyn, can't you see we're losing our way? I refuse to choose. I refuse to abandon you, or my homeland. I will see both prosper. I'll see your goals to fruition while making sure you don't lose sight of the promises you made to us. That you made to me." Her words brought heat, and power to the room; her staunchness and determination almost physical in their fierceness.

Evelyn's memories were faint as they clashed against Rosa's heart, faint and sepia toned, but still palpable. They washed at the redhead's resolve like the waves beneath a sallow cliff, but took nothing from it. Still, Rosa felt she understood her leader more with each passing second. Fear, pain, hate, betrayal... love once beautiful but now gone. A heart broken in the deepest, cruelest ways. The blonde's acquiescence to no longer kill innocents gave Rosa a bit of a smile, the expression lightening not only her face and heart, but almost the room itself. "Thank you, Lady Evelyn. I would like to request we give the legal mages the chance to surrender to your reign peacefully, before things get... well, before open warfare continues... I know none of them in their right minds will take the offer, but... I want to stop as much bloodshed as I can, if I can. My... hhhaahhh..." She closed her eyes and held her breath, taking a moment to steady herself. The words she was about to speak were something she couldn't quite believe she was about to say. She exhaled deeply and stared again at her queen. "Lady Evelyn. If my pain and suffering have motivated you in any way to press this far... then disconsider them. I won't be part of the reason you press into wholesale bloodshed. Carmellia... she... she doesn't want this. She wouldn't want more people to die for her memory..."

Rosa... you... you little idiot...
Carmellia would find herself embraced by the strong emotions of her hostess, and smiled, wiping her tears away silently.
...It took you long enough, you little s**t.

Rosa listened to Evelyn's plan and nodded. "So long as they're offered a chance at surrender and not tortured in their defeats... then I can't object. And the Princesses... I want to ensure their safety. Will you promise me that? That no harm will come to them as long as they comply?" The hunger in Evelyn's soul began to grow out of her control when their eyes met, filling the room with a foul, heavy, gnawing presence. Still, it felt stifled, like Evelyn was holding herself back. What about Rosa was making Evelyn so damned hungry? She was sure the blonde wasn't into women, and it felt like a more primitive, insistent drive than lust... it felt like... thirst. Honest to god thirst... like everything relied upon getting liquid. But why did... "...Lady Evelyn... are you okay? Me being here is... no it's not making you hungry, but it's not helping your need. Please, talk to me. Tell me what's wrong! If Iris and I work together, I'm sure there's nothing we can't fix or at least help with..." Her lips and mouth and throat felt dry. Her stomach began to growl once more. Her sides and belly hurt... she felt that need too sharply to make little of it or try to come up with something to explain it. Only Evelyn knew the answer and had the right to share it, Rosa felt.

Rosa? Rosa, come on, answer me. I know you can hear me.
No. Tired. Lemme sleep.

It was clear the redhead was making a plea, trying to reason with her guild master. She could hear Rosa speaking, but to Evelyn, they were just words. The ability to comprehend her words was being drowned out by own thoughts. Her concentration was slipping and she could only hear one thing: blood. It repeated in her head, over and over and over. The crimson red nectar that sustained her life and tasted oh so good... With her Blood Sight, she could see Rosa down to her bright red veins, coursing with that nectar that she craved. That she needed. It was why she tried to avoid looking at the girl; the more she looked at her blood, the more she lost her restraint. 'N-No! I can't! Not...Rosa...' she struggled, closing her eyes tight. She held her hand to her head as if she were fighting a headache; but she was fighting her urges. Her urge to lunge at the girl and pin her to the floor, sinking her fangs into her inviting neck. And even if she would scream and beg, Evelyn would continue to feed, sucking out every last drop... 'I can't... I can't...' she argued with herself. Her body began to tremble in anticipation and her breathing was becoming heavy; her slight gasps and open mouth exposing her growing canines.

Iris, who had been watching from the door left ajar, thought the conversation was going well. However, she was mostly watching her Guild Master, taking note of her odd mannerisms. She couldn't make heads or tails of her condition, but could see it only getting worse. The blonde was trying to suppress something and it was only a matter of time before she would lose control. As she was aware, there were Etherious among the guild- such as Master Skal. It was possible Evelyn was an Etherious as well; though this was different than what she knew from Skal. Still...it was apparent Rosa was in danger. She had to act if she wished to save the girl's life.

Evelyn shook her head, taking a few more steps back until Rosa spoke. She froze in place; her trembling and labored breathing ceased as well. It was eerily quiet until the woman spoke. "...Help? You want...to help me?" Her eyes slowly raised, revealing her glowing scarlet hues as they were cast upon Rosa. The way she looked at the girl was similar to how a starving lion looked at a gazelle with broken legs. She took a step toward the girl in the wheelchair...and then another as she opened her mouth, exposing her fangs clearly. "You can...you can help me dear. Just...stay right where you are" she huffed, taking another step. Before she took another step, elongated straps would whizz past her, latching on to the redhead before her. Iris grunted as she struggled to control her Urumi and lift Rosa up. Those gold legs of hers made her heavy to move, but she would manage to do so and reel her to her side. Evelyn stood idly by, watching as empath was snatched away to safety; a sense of relief...and disappointment bubbling within her. She was aware of Iris' presence and thankful for her intervention; however, if she lingered any more...she would not be able to resist pursuing them. "Rosa...please forgive me...I just need..." the empress shook, gripping her arms tightly. Iris released the straps from the smaller girl, doing her best to hold her up. Unfortunately, she wasn't the strongest person when it came to physical strength. And with the golden legs, it was going to be even harder for her. All she could do was try to drag her back into the hallway.

Rosa. Rosa the alarm is going off.
Nnnnnnoooooo... No it's not... Shut it off...

Rosa saw Evelyn's heart racing from extreme to extreme. Control to Hedonism. Hunger to Reticence. Human emotions to those of a beast. Compassion, care, concern. Hunger, thirst, hunting. Eating. The need was growing in Evelyn, but she was fighting it. She was resisting. Much of Rosa's pleas had fallen on deaf ears, but not for disinterest or contempt. No. For concern. For focus. To fight the need. To do what? To eat... no. Drink? Yes. To drink Rosa. To drink every drop of her... to... ...to kill me... Evelyn, what are you going through...?

Still, her guild master resisted. She fought herself for the right to not kill her underling like livestock. When Rosa offered to help, she felt Evelyn snap into place, like something within her gave way. Something important and... human. She felt the hunger ripple from Evelyn with every step she took closer. She felt the thirst beckon to her like an old friend... begging her to acquiesce. She couldn't move or think to recoil, the sensation was so overbearingly welcoming... and then the ribbons of Iris's urumi wrapped around her, pulling her both to safety, and out of the depths of Evelyn's hunger. The redhead realized she'd been sweating and breathing heavily, despite not feeling afraid. As she looked down, realizing she was in Iris's arms, she noticed it.

Her cross was ablaze with silver light, pushing out from her chest like a beacon, and wrapping back around herself and Iris: though it stopped shy of Evelyn's form, as if avoiding pressing against her on purpose. It was warm, like fire just close enough to bring comfort on a cold night, and Iris would feel it grace her with a friendly, almost appreciative glow: as if protecting her as much or more than Rosa.

The redhead nudged Iris with her head, and put her feet down to the floor carefully. She concentrated for a moment, and the wings reappeared, freeing the physician from the weight in her arms. "Thank you Iris... I... I don't know what I would've done without you there... is... is she going to be okay? Did... did you know about this?" She turned her head to gaze at Iris, but knew her answer as soon as she met the other woman's eyes. Only in part, it seemed.

The clues and hints began clicking into place. Her light avoidance, the shadows she used, her eyes... the fangs she was now sporting, and the overwhelming thirst she was radiating. Was Evelyn... "...a vampire... I see..." Rosa sighed, finally gathering her breathing enough to focus. She held her hand out in front of her, cupped to catch something. A tea cup popped into existence a few moments later. Evelyn's cup. The one she'd enchanted to hold the ideal temperature for her tea. If she looked back, the empress would realize it had come from the tray that sat in her room still. The girl then brought her other hand to her chest and took her cross in her hand. Without warning, she took the Nail that constituted the vertical section and drew it sharply across her palm. Blood welled quickly, and she held the cup beneath her palm, letting the blood spill into the cup cleanly.

As it filled to the lip, Rosa tilted her hand away, then clenched it around her cross, using the heat to burn the wound shut at least in part. It still bled slightly but it was not dripping freely to the floor. The girl looked at Evelyn sadly, and snapped her fingers, the cup reappearing where it belonged: still full of blood. "I'm sorry I didn't notice I was causing you such... pain? No... not just trouble but... temptation. I'll go now, but I want to continue this conversation with you when you're more in control of yourself than this. When you're not so starved. So please... if it would help you any, drink, okay? I hope a cup is enough to sate you for now... I'm gonna go with Iris now, alright? Please... try to get some rest? And... I promise not to tell anyone." She turned back to Iris with a smile and grabbed one of the door handles, pulling it closed as she left. "Would you please come with me to my room? I might need some help closing up my hand properly, and minding the princesses for a minute while I rest after using my wings..."

Rosa? Rosa, come on, answer me. I know you can hear me.
No. Tired. Lemme sleep.
