Questionable Loiterer

Quote:
Recently it seems like a strange sort of infestation has overtaken Destiny City: small, white rabbits that are rarely larger than a guinea pig have appeared. They are always pure white, with large eyes and wiggling noses. They are cute and apparently social, however when you least expect it they often bite. It's enough to break skin, but after one bite they run away. The injuries are no big deal--it's the after effects you have to watch out for. These bunnies are too skittish and fast to be kept for pets, but they are considered dangerous--especially for children and small animals! If you see one, what do you do? Call animal control? Attack it? Run away? Just be careful! If you get bitten, the next few days are going to be uncomfortable...

When Kit had called Penelope to ask if she wanted to hang out - maybe eat at a café or something - he had asked her to meet up with him at the park so they could decide what to do from there. When he got to the snow-covered grounds of the specified meeting place, however, he saw little white mounds of the snow hopping around and got intensely curious. Upon further inspection, the mounds appeared to actually be creatures - small rabbits, as it seemed - that blended perfectly with the blanket of white they hopped about on.

Come to think of it, he recalled he'd heard something about dangerous rabbits on the news the other day, but had thought little of it except that it sounded funny. Unless the things were all rabid, which they didn't seem to be, how tiny hazardous could the mammals get? He'd forgotten exactly what the news had said was dangerous about them, but wasn't about to leave just because there rabbits at the spot he'd asked to meet someone. If anything, Kit figured that was all the more reason for him to stay so he could make sure Penelope kept away from them.

He crouched down in the snow, watching the wiggling noses of the long-eared, furry mounds. Kit made sure to keep at least a foot away from them at all times, moving aside if one tried to get too close, but was intrigued by them nonetheless. They didn't appear to do anything un-rabbit-like except for coming up to humans and seeming generally unafraid. He attempted to remove his jacket to catch one with it, but the quick animal was too fast for him and he realized with some annoyance that he'd just made his jacket cold and wet with the snow.

Penelope had agreed to meet up with Kit when he'd asked because she was curious about him. Their initial meeting had been full of fun banter and obvious flirting all while staying mindful of the characters they were dressed up as. During the event, he didn't seem to have too much of a problem paying her his full attention and she liked that.

But she wondered if she'd like the man beneath the costume. Curious to find out, she'd rearranged some other plans to fit him in.

She didn't particularly like the idea of meeting in the park while the days were cold and chilly and snow littered the ground but she figured that meeting him halfway was, in the very least, relevant to her interests. So she'd put on something cute and warm, thrown on her peacoat and wrapped a scarf around her neck before going out. It didn't take her too long to find him, arriving on time to find him distracted by some sort of animal.

"Kit," she called, voice soft but clear as she came to stand behind him. Her hands were in the pocket of her coat and her shoulder were hunched as if that was something that would keep her warmer. "What are you doing?"

Clearly she hadn't seen that they were rabbits and carefully stepped closer.

The black-haired male glanced up when he heard his name, caught in the process of shaking his jacket free of as much snow as he could. His grin lit his face when he recognized the blonde and draped his now-damp jacket over one arm. "Heh...chasing some rabbits," he admitted, though realized once he'd said it that it sounded kind of random without context. As she stepped closer to the camouflaged creatures, one of them came over as if to sniff her shoe.

Kit swiped his foot across the ground to scare the rabbit off with a spray of snow. His grin momentarily faltered as he watched it bound off. "You heard anything about these fluffballs? I thought there was something on the news about them, but I can't remember what." He nodded toward the bouncing lumps scattered across the park.

Returning his smile, she took a few steps closer only to be deterred by the creature that was sniffing at her boots. Frowning down at it she contemplated shaking her foot at it or simply kicking it away from her. It was cute, but it was also wild and she didn't trust it. Luckily, she didn't have to pick from either, with Kit coming to her aid and shooing it away.

"No, I'm afraid I haven't," she shook her head, blue eyes narrowing as she examined another rabbit that had wandered close to them. "I haven't been keeping up with the news, the library's been rather full as of late and it's final's week." She sighed more dramatically than needed, brushing loose strands of blonde from her face, carefully smoothing them back to keep from mussing up the rest of her hair.

Her classes were easy this semester and a few of her finals were group project in which she hadn't had to do anything because she'd managed to get someone wrapped around her finger enough to do the work for her. "There's an awful lot of them," she said, frowning once she came to stand beside him. Carefully, and purposely, she leaned into him just slightly.

"Oh, yeah, finals. It's such a pain how they pile everything on right before the winter break, but I guess it's like the final trial before being able to take a breather." He waved his hand in a careless gesture. "At least, if you don't have the stress of family get-togethers and other holiday events to keep you occupied instead."

Taking one more glance at the rabbits, he turned back to Penelope and said, "Nice outfit, by the way. Even if you do look a little cold," he added with a soft smirk. "I'd offer you my jacket, but I just got it wet trying to catch one of these things with it, so it's pretty useless now. And I'd ask if you wanted to head indoors somewhere, but I don't know where you'd wanna go. Any place in mind? Restaurant, movies, mall...? My treat."

All in all, finals were easy this go around and the only true annoyance were the amount of students from Romano's that required her help. How was she supposed to get any writing done if students were milling about in her library? It was, really, for the best though because she actually had to work and interacting with students meant she got the best gossip.

Or that she could drop the best rumors.

Creating a little bit of chaos had been her flavor for a while now.

"I'm sure vati will want Ali and I to come home at some point," she sighed, clucking her tongue. She certainly didn't seem excited at the prospect of visiting her parents for any reason. She loved them certainly, but much preferred the company of others instead. "Three more days and I'll be free for a few weeks." Her chin tipped up and she looked at Kit, hints of a flirty smile on her lips. "I'm wondering what I should do with all that free time..."

She looked down at the sweater dress and legging combo, colorful socks spilling out the top of her boots before looking back at him. "I'll pass on the jacket, but I won't say no to an arm around the shoulders." Contact was good for warmth. "How about coffee?" She suggest after a thoughtful pause. "Most cafes will have pastries and there's always good conversation with a nice cup of coffee."

"Three days, huh? Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to come hang out with me," he told her, "Hopefully I can make it worth your while. But maybe you shouldn't plan ahead too far before we get to know each other a little better, princess," Kit added, winking. "I tend to be something of an acquired taste."

He raised his brows at her comment about his arm around her shoulders before warmly complying. She'd been pretty smooth about it and had a practical reason, but even so, he was surprised to hear a girl be so forward about asking a guy to touch her when they were still practically acquaintances. Most people freaked out when he touched them, intimately or not, so this was a nice change, especially for such a tactile person.

"Sounds good to me," Kit answered at her suggestion about coffee at a café. "I think there's one place just down the street that's decent." He gently guided her using the arm around her shoulders. Before they were out of sight, though, he cast the rabbits one last look. "...I wonder what really causes all the strange things that go on in this city. It always seems to be blamed on one group or another."

She smiled at him, corners curling in a cat-like manner at his comment. "Everyone is an acquired taste," she countered, shrugging before his arm slid across her shoulders. "Besides, I never said anything about making plans." She'd just left a door open, in case things went well and there would be a repeat venture.

Her own arm slung across his back, petite hand fitting against his side, right beneath the ribcage.

If Kit was going to learn anything about her, it was that Penelope Rey was full of confidence and was not shy about her flirtiness. Especially not when she thought it would get her somewhere.

Letting Kit lead her towards the cafe she kept her attention between the path they were taking and the boy with his arm around her. She wasn't worried about her safety, trusting that the powers gifted to her by Alkaid to save her in a quick pinch. The whole being able to magically stick her hand in someone's chest was a great fallback.

"Hard to say," she replied glancing at the buildings as they walked. "Maybe it's the water. Or, if you believe in things you can't see, maybe it's magic. World's a mysterious place Kit and if you over think it you'll miss out."

"I guess that's true," he conceded, chuckling. "On both accounts."

Kit appreciated the hand against his side and leaned a little closer. "Mm...magic," he murmured thoughtfully, his gaze distant for a moment. "My little sister used to go on and on about that. She's the one who wanted to go to Neverland."

Then he looked back at Penelope and his expression brightened again. "Have you been to this café before?" he asked, pausing to open the door for her as they reached the entrance.

Penelope's free hand tugged her coat a little tighter against her. Really, she didn't need the warmth of Kit's frame pressed against her own but she liked the attention all the same and wasn't going to tell him otherwise. Besides, it certainly seemed like a win-win situation for her.

"Universe is a large place Kit," Peneople said, chin tipping up so she could look at him properly, peeling away only once he opened the door. "I liked the idea of being Wendy, because who wouldn't want to be stolen away on an adventure?" She looked like she thought fondly of the storybook.

"Hook always seemed more my type than little Peter." She flashed a charming smile his way, unashamed to reference their meeting. "Why wait for someone to save you when you can save yourself?"

Though Penelope made an excellent damsel in distress when she wanted.

She shook her head at him, looking around the cafe with pursed lips. "I don't believe so. I usually stick close to the university campus and what's near there."

"Kinda contradictory, don't you think?" He asked with a crooked smile. "Wanting to be stolen away on an adventure, but also wanting to save yourself? Why wait for someone to steal you when you can just go?" Kit gave a low chuckle. "Why is Hook more your type than Peter?"

He nodded softly at her answer in regard the café. "Feel free to take your time deciding what you want, then. I think I'll just get some hot chocolate with whipped cream and cinnamon."

Penelope considered his question, choosing to take her time when she responded. "Well, sometimes you need a push from someone else- an open door, an extended hand and the promise of adventure - to realize that you've got the strength to go it alone." But Kit had a point, she had walked herself into a bit of a circle.

"Sometimes," she pulled away from him slightly, fingers sliding across his back as she turned her attention to the menu, "you need an opportunity to present itself first before you can realize your potential." Though Penelope liked to think that she knew enough about herself to be confident about what she was capable of.

"Hook has a different sort of charm. Roguishness, where Peter is boyish and if you look at the classical tale, Hook is far from the cartoonish villain Disney turned him into. Besides," she grinned, stepping forward when she'd decided on her drink, "he respected Wendy as a person, a woman, where Peter romanticizes her and puts her in a box." Pen had no interest in playing mother to anyone, especially not a bratty child who thought the world owed him.

"A caramel latte sounds like my drink of choice today."

"I see. That makes sense," young man mused. His eyes followed her as much as they could to where she slid her fingers across his back. "And that's very true. A certain situation where you can find strength you didn't know you had to do something you didn't know you could do."

"Hehe...Oh I know way more about both than I ever meant to thanks to that fanatical sister of mine. I don't know that I'd agree with those interpretations of their relations with Wendy, but I get what you're saying."

Nodding at her choice, Kit ordered for them both once it was their turn to step up to the counter. He took out his wallet to pay and replaced it before gesturing for her to choose where she wanted to sit.

"So why Cinderella, then? I'd ask if that had something to do with enjoying the finer things in life or being called a princess, but if either of those were the case, you could have picked from a bunch of others that didn't start out as a maid covered in soot."

"Depends on the re-telling," she quipped, shoulders rolling back. It was inconsequential if his views didn't quite line up with hers as long as he wasn't arguing with her. If he did, then it would depend on how attached he was to his opinion because Penelope was of the opinion that anyone could be swayed one way or another with the right words.

She tapped her chin with a perfectly manicured nail, the polish something along a dark mint, and regarded both her company and the cafe seating. "It's a mixture of things," she admitted, slipping away from him completely as she collected her drink and made to lead him to a nice booth that had a few of the street.

She held her hand out behind him, if he wanted to take it. "Sake of ease, when you consider classical depictions of her." She had picked something a little more modern but the idea was the same. "And the appeal that the common-woman could one day be royalty."

There was no doubt that Penelope believed that one day she could be a queen. "Sometimes, you have to play a part you're not keen on in order to take over."

Little did Penelope know that Kit, whose alter-ego was the Senshi of Change, believed that all things were changeable and thus would have wholeheartedly agreed that anyone's opinion could be changed with the right words. Or, as he liked to think of it, when put in a certain perspective.

He watched her as she tapped her chin and wondered vaguely if she would have been opposed to him bringing out his sketchpad to draw her while they waited for their drinks. Perhaps it would have been rude to do so, but he thought it was worth at least asking. "You mind if I sketch you while we wait?" he asked with a small grin. "We can still chat, of course, but there's something about the way you move...your idiosyncrasies. Just wanted to see if I could get some down on paper. If not, though, just tell me. I know people often prefer eye-contact with their conversation partner."

Kit seated himself across from her in the booth, somewhat missing the warmth of a body so near to him, but admiring the better view he had of her in exchange as well as the view they had of the street outside and the people walking by.

When she held out her hand, he took it as naturally as if he'd been expecting it, both hands closing over hers as if she were his sole source of warmth. "The common woman thing I get; transcending the role you seemed to be born into. But what do you mean by 'ease'?"
