Quote:
Shopping for anything at this time of year can be downright crazy. Stores are filled to the brim and people have broken out into fighting over--what, things? The best deal on jewelry, the newest toy craze. Honestly, no one sane should be out right now.

But, for some reason, here you are. Something out there compelled you to join these crowds--so what is it? Why did you brave this busy time of the year to shop? Are you one of the many looking for that one perfect gift? Or did you just so happen to run out of toilet paper at the same time someone started a major sale? Whatever it is that's got you out--just be careful; those crowds are dangerous!

Sinope wasn't really out to collect energy, but seeing the hoards of people attacking the stores, he figured it wouldn't have hurt to venture into the battlefield while powered up. Not only would it give him higher stamina and speed if he needed to evade or escape overzealous shoppers while he himself was shopping, but he would be able to summon a mirrorwraith and collect energy for Mirrorspace at the same time. Not to mention that shoppers sapped of some energy would be way less dangerous for him and others to encounter. It was an all-around good idea, he figured.

His outfit was a little tell-tale, so he slipped a jacket on over it and zipped it up along with some jeans over his shorts to protect his bare legs against the cold. People were wearing multiple layers nowadays anyway, so he doubted anyone would find his garb suspicious. The teenager grabbed his messenger-style bag and went out to brave the raging masses with just a little extra advantage on his side. He was confident on his own with his intelligence, but when it came to physical abilities, not so much. That was why being powered was such a nice bonus to his natural assets.

Sinope didn't really have friends he considered friends; mostly just acquaintances. Though he was friendly with almost everyone, he was very careful not to get too close to any one person because he believed that spelled disaster. That was why, though he was out to buy presents this holiday season, his intended giftees were simply his family. This consisted of himself and his parents, being an only-child, so he knew them pretty well and he didn't have a lot of presents to buy. Still, buy them he had to, and he had to make certain they were good ones.

First stop: the mall. As he perused the window displays of each store while walking by, he casually took out his mirror shard and summoned a mirrorwraith before releasing it into the crazed crowd jostling each other about. He hoped the wraith would stay close because he would need to return it to its shard once it was full and it would need to find him for that. He resolved not to go too far from it as he sat on a bench outside a group of stores and tried to think of what to get his parents. He wanted to get them something clever and special because his cleverness was a source of his pride and he enjoyed trying to outdo himself each year with presents to impress them.

She hated this. She despised it with every fiber of her being. Shopping was detested to begin with but shopping for christmas presents when apparently everyone else decided to do it as well was just plain stupid. Sadly Dessie didn't have much choice in the matter. There was only one shop in the area with the gift she was looking for and they were only willing to hold it for the day, if that. So here she was, practically grinding her teeth down to nubs, as she suppressed the need to strike out at the next person who bumps into her in their quest for the perfect present.

She stuck to the edges of the crowds hoping to survive without hurting someone, all the while winding her way towards the store she needed and its precious cargo hidden behind the customer service desk. Dessie had no idea what had her spotting the small shadow at first. It was just something she saw. Something that didn't seem normal. It was small and very hard to distinguish from the madness of the crowds it lurked in but it was acting completely unnatural. It wasn't a real shadow, it wasn't a pet or something mondaine. Dessie's icy blue eyes narrowed as she tried to track the 'shadow' and knew that something was up. What exactly she didn't know but if chaos was involved it meant she would have to interfere... it meant she could hit someone and not get yelled at. Good.

Ducking into a hidden corner, blocked by racks of clothes from view, she pulled off her jacket and in a heartbeat transformed into Antares. Shrugging back into her jacket she tugged the hood over her blond hair and stalked back out to the crowds, searching for the aura she felt. She stalked through the civilians, her gold heels clicking against the linoleum as she headed right for the stupid chaos agent who had the bad luck of being in the same spot as her.

Huh?

Sinope tensed while he was observing the displays of a shop that boasted custom engravings. An Order energy signature suddenly sprung up among the mass of people. He might not have worried so much if they had entered normally like he had because maybe they'd had the same idea he did. However, this signature showed up very near to where he'd let his wraith loose. It couldn't have been spotted, could it have...?

Jumping up, the teen glanced around for anyone in a strange outfit, but that was difficult when most were bundled in layers head to toe. Chances are that the person he was looking for was the same, just like him. He couldn't exactly just call out into the crowd for the other powered being to show themselves, either. He walked slowly as he tried to pin-point the source of the energy he sensed, hoping he found it or his wraith before either his wraith found the source or the source found it. The mirrorwraiths were pretty fragile once they'd collected energy, so if someone decided to attack it, it wasn't going to stand a chance.

It took longer than it should have but finally she was close enough to have a pretty good idea of her target. Someone who looked cagey. Not only were they really bundled up, most people were, but they seemed like he was really searching for something in the crowd. Likely her since she knew he could sense her. He was either looking for her, or for his little pet he let loose. He was the bigger danger, at least as far as Antares was concerned. Doing her best to blend in with the crowd, even stopping to window shop as cover every so often, the senshi observed her target. Aware of their surroundings and the worry it posed, she couldn't be seen beating on some 'poor, helpless' guy even if he wasn't poor or helpless as everyone would likely believe.

Finally she saw her window of opportunity and without thinking she sprung into action. With care she deliberately let her hood fall just long enough for her tiara to show before she quickly covered it up as she sped through the crowd. She paused to make sure the Mirror Senshi, she knew what he was thanks to Maia, was following. Whenever she thought he had lost sight of her she 'slipped' and let him spot her again. Until she ducked into a maintenance corridor in a lesser used part of the mall.

Here they could fight with little interference, there was less public traffic and no cameras. Here she could punch the smarmy little b*****d who thought letting loose a chaos creature into a crowded mall was a good idea. Here she turned to face the two doors, far enough back not to be surprised by any attack, and waited. If he chose not to follow her... well then she would just have to make his day a hell of a lot worse.

The White Moon senshi revealed herself to Sinope before his wraith did, but it was obvious she did it deliberately and she didn't have a very friendly look to her. Sinope estimated her to be about his own age. She didn't seem much more powerful than him as a senshi, either, judging by her energy signature, but he knew better than to assume simply from that.

Glad he didn't yet have any bags to guard, he walked rather quickly through the crowds of people to follow this peer of his who so clearly wanted him to follow her. Perhaps she wanted to get him alone so they could fight properly rather than in a mall full of people, but Sinope wondered if he couldn't talk her out of fighting at all. He himself wasn't much of a fighter anyway.

She finally seemed to stop when they made it to a maintenance corridor and he tried to keep up his guard. When he opened the pair of doors she had disappeared through, he sighed and asked, "Look, can't we just talk about this?"

Antares was a wound pretty tight. Normally she would wait for the other person to make the first move, or at least give them a chance to back off as was only right but when the doors opened she sprung into action. She grabbed the dark moon senshi by the front of his jacket, he was dressed to hide his uniform like she was, and slammed him against a nearby wall all before his words even registered to her ears.

Keeping him still with one hand she let up just a hair, enough not to hurt him but more than enough to show him that she meant for him to stay there. "Call it back. Return it to whatever hell you pulled it from," she hissed out coldly. She hadn't hurt the boy yet, not really, but she would do it if he didn't do it. Releasing such a creature into the crowded shopping mall meant that more people would get hurt once it was found. People would freak out, they would panic and run. Those who had been affected by the chaos creature would be unable to protect themselves. Crowds could kill! This boy probably didn't think about it that way. He probably hadn't seen what one human could do to another when they were running for their lives. And that was just what was going to happen if that mirror wrath wasn't returned to the mirror realm.

Her anger wasn't just about the damage that would occur if it was found but also that the boy, he really wasn't a man in her eyes, was draining energy. Something he never asked for from people who had no way of protecting themselves. It wasn't right, it wasn't fair, and while the world itself wasn't fair she sure as s**t didn't have to sit around a let it happen. Not when she could step in and correct it somehow. "You want to talk about it? Make your pet heel then we can talk."

Sinope was actually pretty used to being grabbed and slammed against walls since he was often the victim of bullying at school, but he hadn't subjected to such treatment by a powered being before. As such, the force of the impact hurt a great deal more than he'd anticipated as he yelped in pain and surprise. He had thought the White Moon senshi might have at least permitted him to get a word or two out first, but she turned out to be more a person of action.

"Whoa, whoa, hey, lady, calm down! It's just a mirrorwraith," the teen explained, putting up his palms in a show of surrender. "And it came from Mirrorspace, not any 'hell'. Us Dark Mirror Senshi aren't like you White Moon people who can draw power from your dying worlds or whatever, but we have to get our magic from somewhere. It doesn't hurt anyone if we just borrow a little of their energy. In fact, people rarely even notice! And man, have you seen this mall? There's plenty of energy to go around! In fact, it'll probably be safer with less of it!"

Sorry about the delay ^.^'

Antares felt a flash of shame when the boy yelped in pain. She hadn't meant to hurt him that bad, just push him against the wall but apparently she was so wound up that she didn't curb her strength far enough. Forgetting for the moment that she was powered with all the bells and whistles that came along with it. She nearly let him go like he burned her as a memory flashed in her mind, one where she was the one against the wall facing the much larger figure of her father. She didn't but it was a close thing. She did let up though, not so much as pinning as just holding, barely touching really.

“I know what it is,” she sighed and repeated her earlier order, “call it back.” Less angry and more frustrated with everything Antares tisked as she stalked away from the kid finding she couldn't hit him any more than she could hit one of those saps out in the main mall, at least right now. If he didn't look so… so… harmless maybe she could but right then, as he scrambled to explain himself offering no resistance to her manhandling. It reeked of bullying and she was the bully. “It's not your energy to take!” She basicly bit out as she pivoted on her heels to face him once more. “They can't prevent it, they can't fight against it, they can't even give permission.” Why was it so hard for others to understand? Just because you were stronger didn't mean that you had the right to just take what you wanted.

“Did you even think about what will happen if a civilian sees your little wrath? I can tell you, panic. Shear and undeniable panic.” She had seen the results of such an event before although it was a long time ago and a result of police showing up. “They will try to get away as fast as possible without care who they hurt in the process. In this crowd? It could be deadly. Call it back. Go hunting elsewhere.”

He blinked when he noticed the other senshi let up, even if she didn't completely release him. "You do?" he asked, astonished she was familiar with mirrorwraiths. Maybe she had run into one before.

Sinope quickly got over his surprise, however, as the female senshi seemed to take the moral high ground. The expression he cast her suggested he was unimpressed with her reasoning.

"Okay, hold up. First of all, the energy we gather is necessary because we use it to help the Earth that these people live on. So technically, it's for their own good. Second, energy is like water; it's not created or destroyed, just transferred. All these people 'stole' the energy from plants and animals that they murdered and ate, even though said plants and animals couldn't prevent it, fight against it, or give permission, either. So how is what I'm doing any different from what any of them do on a regular basis?"

He crossed his arms over his chest. "Third, people in this mall are already nuts. They're already stumbling over each other and causing panic attacks with how hectic everything is from the holiday season. They're more likely to stress themselves out than get stressed from the sight of my wraith, which is pretty inconspicuous as it is. People don't tend to notice what they're not looking for or what they don't know exists, especially when they've got their minds occupied with things like gift shopping."

Sinope waved a hand. "Look at it this way. I'm taking energy from people who are more likely to stress themselves out with it. They're probably better off going home and taking a nap than being out here buying last-minute things or stealing or trampling each other to get stuff on their wishlists."

Antares wasn't going to dignify the mirror senshi rebuttal by arguing with him. It didn't matter that he kinda had a point for a few of them. He obviously didn't understand her overall Concern. He had never truly seen what kind of harm people could, and would, do to each other when they feared for their own lives. If she spotted the wraith then others would as well and they way she understood it, the more energy the wraith gathers the more visible it becomes and the more fragile it is. Granted she wasn’t sure about this… she honestly wasn’t sure about anything regarding mirror senshi but she trusted Maia’s information. She trusted the lessons she was given, the knowledge she had picked up, and the skills she had honed. Antares knew her next step but the boy still needed one last chance, everyone deserves a chance.

“If you won’t call it back… I will take care of it.” If he chose not to understand the danger he was putting others in, if he chose not to recall his little energy vacuum, he would find that he would no longer have it at his disposal. She wasn't entirely sure she could find it via aura like a youma could be but she would try. If she had too she would hunt it down as a civilian and deal with it that way. “Those sheeple might need some valium in their coffee but it is not up to you to dose them. Not when someone spotting your little pet puts everyone at risk.”

Who exactly was she trying to convince? Why didn't she just punch him into submission? Antares wouldn't, couldn't, do the latter. It smacked too much of bullying, of force, and she would not become her father. The mirror senshi might be right in the sense that humans had a tendency to take what they want without thought but might did not make right! With a sneer she turned on her heel away from boy and started to make her way towards the door. Better to take care of this before the wraith was spotted.

"You're not listening to me," the redhead told the blonde. "We need that energy more than those people do. The Dark Mirror court is using it to find a back-up planet in case humans end up ruining the Earth beyond repair, which is already in the process of happening."

But the White Moon Senshi didn't appear to care. She seemed to have something more pressing on her mind. Sinope had seen it there in her eyes and etched on the features of her expression. There was something more specific she was worried about. Something she must have had first-hand experience in the past with, he was willing to bet. But what?

Sinope decided to try a different tact. "You know if you try to 'take care of it' you're more likely to bring attention to it and start a panic that way, right? If people notice you're looking for something with such a worried look on your face, they'll be looking too. And if they spot it before you do, all your efforts will have been in vain.

"What are you so afraid of, anyway?" he dared asking. "Are you hiding something? You sound like you're speaking from experience." Studying her, he frowned. "Did you do something in the past? Is it guilt that's making you so eager to keep history from repeating itself?"

eh, it happens XD i would say your next post can wrap this by the way heart

“Then gather it elsewhere!” Antares growled at the boy. What was he? Stupid? She had no idea if the boy really thought that's what the Dark Mirror really was doing with the energy or if he was just feeding her a line. Hell, for all Antares knew they really could be using the energy to find a new planet when humans royally ******** this one up because the boy was right about one thing, the human population was well on the way to ruining this planet. Still didn’t make it right though. “How do you know? Have you personally used this energy that has been gathered to search for a new planet? I very much doubt it. Hell, I wouldn’t trust you to find your way out of a paper bag let alone find a habitable planet.”

The blonde just rolled her eyes at the Dark Mirror, yes she might be spotted but unlike him she was use to being ignored. She purposely faded into the background and if it took reverting to a civilian then she would do so. Besides it was a risk she had to take. Her contemptuous look flickered for a moment when the boy tossed out his questions, his accusations. Her cold blue eyes seemed to darken for a second as memories surfaced, memories from the years on the street, nightmares that still haunted her. Sooner then one would think Antares was able to shut down those turbulent thoughts and stood in front of the boy with a cool and indifferent look on her face. “Ever seen footage of the running of the bulls? It will be like that out there except it won't be bulls it will be people, and those who fall will be trampled.” Antares knew that if that wraith was spotted it would be like yelling ‘fire’ in a crowded theater… or someone shooting into a crowd… human’s survival instinct will kick in and they won't care who they hurt in their pursuit of safety.

“This is pointless. Like trying to explain physics to a toddler or human nature to… well you.” The senshi sneered at the boy before shaking her head in derision. Obviously it was pointless to try to convince this kid to do what she had asked so it seemed she had no choice but to take action. No more stalling, no more delaying. Now, she needed to go now. Turning away once more she took the last few steps to the doors, pausing only once, “You had your chance. Now when, not if... when I find your little pet I will destroy it. I can only suggest you take my previous comments to heart and recall the damn thing before I get my hands on it.” Antares didn’t give him a chance to delay her any further, she pushed through the doors back into the mall in general, tugging her jacket closer around her. Now it was just a matter of playing ‘hide and seek’ with a creature designed to be inconspicuous.

"No, but I personally use the energy to power up," he answered. In all honesty, Sinope knew he was too selfish to really care about what happened to the human population as a whole if Earth actually ended up dying, but he knew better than to say so. Not then when this altruistic senshi seemed so concerned with the safety of civilians. Still, what right did she have to assume he was untrustworthy? Maybe she was just untrusting of people by default, though, which he couldn't really blame her for, being the same.

When her expression changed momentarily, he knew that he had stumbled upon something with his shots in the dark. "So you have seen something," he murmured. It was a good thing he hadn't attempted to use his Sly Secret Steal on her or she might have changed her mind about beating him up with how tight-lipped she was being about her secrets. "I'm guessing your experience didn't involve bulls."

He raised a brow as she proclaimed her explaining things to him to be pointless. "You think very highly of yourself, don't you?" Not that he was any different. "I'm actually pretty familiar with human nature. In fact, I'd say I know it better than you because if you knew it as well as I do, you wouldn't be acting all selfless doing your best to save people. They're not worth saving. You're busting your hump for people who don't give a damn about you. The only one worth looking out for is yourself, because if you don't, no one else will." He darted past the blonde senshi to slip out the doors before her, retrieving his mirror shard as he did so.

It wouldn't have been too much of a problem if she destroyed the wraith. They hardly ever summoned the same one twice, so there was no real room for attachment even if Sinope was the sort to get attached. He could always get a new one from Remarque, but he would have preferred not to have had to resort to that. Besides, his mirrorwraith was probably already full of energy by now anyway. It would have been a waste not to allow it to return to Mirrorspace.

"I'll take care of it," he assured the female sailor scout whose name he still didn't know. "I need to finish shopping for my parents, anyway. But think about what I said," Sinope told her seriously, meeting blue eyes with hazel. "You owe it to yourself, at least. Their lives and happiness are worth no more than yours. Maybe even less." And with that, he melted into the crowd.

no worries ^.^ officially Fin by the way

He had no idea just what she had seen. Not even her new family knew it all. No one did. He didn’t know that she knew first hand just the dangers of people. The dangers of a mass that has been panicked. She knew and it still woke her up in the middle of the night. Not that she voiced any of this, nope. Antares kept her mouth shut and her eyes hard. Giving nothing away, any more at least. As for the comment about people not worth it… if only he knew.

Antares knew quite well that people in general aren't worth it, they don't give a damn. But that didn’t mean that you shouldn’t step in and try. She didn’t want to become like her father. She wouldn’t. So step in she did. Only for those who couldn’t help themselves. For those who needed the extra strength she represented because there was nothing worse than a bully. Someone who used their strengths to get what they want when they don't deserve it or even earned it.

She kept this all bottled up inside and watched as the kid left before going on her own way. She really, really, really wanted to hit something now. All these old thoughts dragging up old feelings and making her itch for a fight. A crowded mall sure as s**t wasn’t made for one though so once she was sure the boy and his little wrath was gone she left as well. She knew just who to talk to when the blood called for a fight. Xander wouldn’t be happy that she went to an underground fight but what he didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him.
