Quote:
It was like any other light, winter snow. It was chilly and clouds hung in the sky but if you looked up you could swear you could still see the stars. The snow falls gently and coats the ground in a light layer--but these aren't normal snowflakes. Mixed in with the regular snow, crystalized snowflakes seem to be falling. These are roughly the size of a quarter and are light and hollow. They are fragile, like glass, but glisten like a fine cut gem. No one can explain this anomaly, but these small snowflakes won't melt. And they are all over Destiny City. You can find them gently falling to the ground, or lying in the fresh fallen snow. They don't seem evil--but they do make for some cute keepsakes!

Staring up at the sky one night, Kit was surprised to find it start to snow. He held out his hand to catch some of the softly-falling flakes, fascinated by them. As he leaned down to get a closer look at their distinct patterns before they melted in the warmth of his palm, however, he quickly realized that not all the flakes were dissolving. "Huh?"

The baffled teen lightly tapped one of the remaining snowflakes in his palm with a silver fingernail. It made a faint, high-pitched sound like glass. Were these things hollow? Maybe it was the doing of the Negaverse or the White Moon, but if it had anything to do with the Dark Mirror Court, he hadn't been informed.

Benji's mood was absolutely s**t at this time. A deep, hollow hole was left in his head, and he had no idea on how to deal with it. And neither did his family. They watched him, nervous, worrying that something might set him off, but even more worried about the silence that over came him. It was so unusual for the young man to not even have a sarcastic comment when his sister tripped and fell, and even more so when his mother came into his room and asked if he wanted anything. The normal reactions of "HAHA, you dumbass" or "Get out mom, I'm not smoking pot!" Didn't come.

They all knew it was going to happen one of these days. The eye in his head was unsalvagable, and only brought on excruciating pain to the point where he could barely move, barely think, and after having it punched again during a 'fight' there was nothing left to be done. After months and months of trying so hard to scrounge up the savings needed to perform the procedure, the eye was removed. And the whole world felt incredibly unreal to Benji now.

A week had gone by since the procedure, and the pain was gone, yet... Something still felt wrong. The entire time he was recovering, no one had visited him. No one sought him out to see he was alright. No one even bothered to come by and drop off homework or anything of the sort. He was alone this whole time, with only his family. That just wasn't the same, especially since they all in their own way feared him. He had given plenty of reasons to in the past, always on edge and snappish even though he had no reason to be. Simply put, that was fully coming back to bit him in the a** now.

But being sad and upset was boring, and so was seeing the same four people over and over again. Silently, he stood up from his bed and began to get dressed, pulling on his pants, then socks, then shoes, and grabbing a thick coat from his closet. He could not face his family, not right now, so he opened his window, feeling the chilly air against his face and bandages for the first time in a week, and set off down the fire escape.

Luckily enough for him, he had been without sight for nearly a year now, so coming down and moving about without his eye only caused minor problems, and that was due to his head feeling extremely heavy due to the amount of bandages that were wrapped about it at this time. And the bandages protruded enough from his head that it reduced his peripheral vision even further. Enough so, at least, that that moment he rounded the corner to the main street, he walked right into someone's back.

"Hey, don't stand in the middle of the sidewalk, you ******** a*****e." When he spoke, the words didn't seem to have as much bite as they normally did. More than likely due to him feeling rather unwell.

The tall teen stumbled forward as he was bumped into, eager not to drop the snowflake which he had been in the process of investigating. Slipping it into a pocket of his jacket, he simultaneously pivoted his torso to see who had bumped into him and was calling him names.

It was yet another angry teenager, but this one looked hurt pretty badly. One side of his head and eye was all bandaged up and Kit instinctively put his arms out to steady him. "Sorry; got distracted by these funny snowflakes," he explained, hearing an unusual crunching underneath his feet as he shifted a bit. It sounded a little like he was stepping on broken glass. Wow; he hoped no one tried to venture barefoot out into this snow.

"You alright, cupcake? Should you be out in this weather in that condition on your own?" Something about the melancholy way he held himself and the pain Kit could sense balled up inside him reminded him of something or someone, but he just couldn't recall who or what. His sister, perhaps...?

It took a moment to even register that he had been thrown off balance, but when he did, when the arms reached out to make sure he was still on his feet, he scowled. But it felt tiring to let himself keep the expression, so instead he slapped the offending hands away with a light touch before shoving his hands into his pockets and taking a step back.

Funny snowflakes? Now that he thought about it, it really was strange the way the the snow crunched under his feet. It felt almost sharp, like stepping on broken glass. Benji stomped his feet a few times, looking down and seeing if it really was only snow, until he was called 'cupcake' and looked up with a glare again.

"Who are you calling a cupcake? Do I look like a frosted cake to you? No, don't answer that." The very coloring of his hair did imply a bit of chocolate cake topped with vanilla frosting but... Eh. "I'm fine. I'm fine. No one is gonna say anything if I flop over and die in the snow anyway, so It's good. "

Geesh, that sounded far darker than he had intended. The boy just chalked it up to being moody. It was a pretty standard excuse for him after all, more so since that feeling of being alone started to engulf him.

"I'm fine." He reiterated, taking another step forward to study the man's face for a moment. Benji had no goals, no real things he wanted to do so might as well. "But maybe I'm not. Maybe bumping into me is gonna eventually make blood spurt everywhere. I think I need to walk with you for a while and maybe you buy me a snack or something to make up for the potentially grave injury you inflicted on me."

Quite used to having his hands slapped away when he wasn't keeping them to himself, Kit didn't seem to mind. He was more curious about the kid before him who began to stomp on the strange, partly non-melting snow. At least until he heard the term, 'cupcake'.

The question asked followed immediately by a command not to answer immediately brought a grin to Kit's face. That grin wavered, though, at the younger teen's words that followed.

"I seriously doubt that," he answered, his tone more serious than his expression suggested as the somehow familiar boy stepped forward again after having stepped back. Kit was once again taken by surprise, though, at the guy's sudden new declaration.

"...Are you hitting on me?" he asked after a minute of trying to process what had just happened. His attitude had only seemed to change after he'd peered into Kit's face, after all, and as much as Kit hated being stared at, he could only assume he'd seen something there he liked to want to spend more time with him.

"What? No! No way!" Even if it seemed like Benji had been hitting on the man, that realization had never crossed his mind. To him, he felt that his actions only implied that he was being the typical little annoying s**t that he was. It was getting more and more difficult to handle how he thought recently, his mind constantly hovering between wanting to be alone because ******** everyone else and craving attention by any means possible. And other times, the two ideas merged together, leading him to make contradictory statements or making no sense at all. But right now, the boy knew what he wanted, and that was not to be alone.

"I'm just saying in case I do end up falling over in the snow or something due to you walking into me, I think you need to take responsibility and look after me for a while." Surprisingly, he wasn't scowling, in fact, he was relaxed and smiling up mischievously at the stranger. People were much more likely to ignore him and run away if he was overly mean, right? So he would be good, or at least as good as he could be. Benji's hands came out from his pockets and patted them, emphasizing just how empty they were.

"And I may or may not have left my wallet up on the 15th floor and the elevator is kinda busted so... I'm a bit out of luck. I'm sure you could spare a bit of time on some busted up boy, right? Maybe in the name of 'Holiday Spirit' or some s**t like that?"

The older teen laughed at the other's reaction. "Alright, alright, I believe you. But there are other, more simple ways to ask someone to spend time with you if you're lonely," Kit added, grinning. "Unless there's a reason you're targeting me specifically, like you have plans to knock me out and rob me, in which case I'll tell you right now I've got almost nothing on me."

The mischievous smile caused Kit to raise a brow with some suspicion, but he shook his head and started to walk, snickering in amusement. "Come on. Just so you know, it's probably not a good idea to go around asking strangers to buy you stuff or they might get the wrong idea."

"Who said anything about being lonely? I just wanted to, you know, make sure if I pass the ******** out someone is there to atleast shovel more snow ontop of me to make sure my body is preserved or something gross like that. Seriously, do I look like I can robe you blind? I'm probably more ******** up then you have ever been in your life." Benji was most certainly teasing the older teen at this point, and hurried up to walk by his side. This man was very tall compared to him... Before that would have made him uneasy, perhaps even intimidated, but right now, he felt at ease. The bigger they are the harder they fall if any s**t were to go down, anyway.

"Wrong idea, hmm? Well, are you asking for something then? My company should be plenty in exchange for what I'm asking. Where are you headed anyway, Mr. Weirdo who lets teens follow them around? Or do you have a real name I can call you by? Personally, I like Mr. Weirdo or something along those lines."

"Mmhmm. Angel-face, I watch people a lot and I may not be the most observant person out there, but I can tell when someone's lonely. And in all honesty, the stuff you're spewing has me both amused and worried." He glanced back at Benji with a more tempered smile, laced with concern. "What happened to your eye?"

He sighed and continued on. "That's probably what gigolos say. But alright, I'll play your game. I'm Kit and I wasn't really headed anywhere in particular. I was just going to take a walk to admire the snowscape when I noticed that some of the snowflakes weren't melting." Kit shrugged. "You can call me whatever you like, though. I know I do."

"Let's get a few things straight. My name isn't Angel-face, It's Benji, and don't you assume s**t about me, got it?" It truly felt like just standing in the presence of this man was enough to get under Benji's skin, and in turn had him feeling more like his usual self. Which was a bad thing. Kit was right, he WAS lonely, but like hell he was going to let him know that for now.

"I got it removed, that's all, don't be pestering me with questions about it. I don't want to talk about it." It was far easier to just brush off the question rather than find a new lie about how his eye got popped out, so that was the way he went.

"I'm also no gigolo, you a**. I'm just a kid who needs a hot drink and maybe some company that doesn't make me want to punch a man in the face. Maybe I should do the whole rob you and take what you got thing." Of course, again he was joking, and luckily he felt like this particular a*****e could take a joke, so he kept up by his side. At the mention of the snow, he looked down, removing his glove, and picking up a handful of it, watching as most of it melted away in his palm, though a few stayed and lingered.

"Well, that's not freaky as ********... I wonder if it's some kinda weird stone thing that got swept up by high winds... But that doesn't make any sense..." The next thought, of course, was magic but he wasn't going to say that. Who knew what kinda reaction he'd get from his meal ticket.

"Pleased to meet you, Benji," Kit answered, now doing his best to be politely discreet. He obligingly dropped the subject of the other's missing eye as they continued walking. "But if you're looking for company that doesn't make you want to punch someone in the face, I'm probably not your best candidate."

He assumed the kid didn't have any other friends to call up, though, or else why would he ask for the company of a complete stranger? Perhaps he didn't want anyone he knew seeing him in the state he was in and feeling sorry for him.

"It really doesn't," he replied, noticing Benji bend to scoop up some of the strange snow. "Where I'm from, we didn't get snow, so I'm not all that familiar with it, but I'm pretty sure this isn't natural. Kinda pretty though, aren't they?" He leaned down to scoop a few more up himself. "But hey...not like it's the only unnatural thing happening in this city."

"Well, maybe that's what I need, a good punch. Who knows... We'll just play by ear, huh?" After having scooped up the snow, Benji used the end of his scarf to dry off the still remaining ones and put them in his pocket for later. Maybe they would make cool ornaments or something.

"You're not from DC? Really? Where are you from then? And why the ******** would you come to this hell hole anyway?"

Kit chuckled lightly at the comment about needing a good punch. "Sounds good to me." He examined the new crystals he picked up. "I wonder if these are each unique too, or if they have real counterparts that melted or something."

Glancing back at Benji briefly, he sneered and shrugged. "I wanted to get away from my parents. Long, boring story." Turning around completely so he was walking backwards, he asked, "So, what do you feel like eating? Or we could get some hot chocolate somewhere."

"That's something that can be looked at later. Right now, my stomach is pissed and needs something at least... It feels like I haven't eaten in days." Now that his mind had been taken away from moping and generally being pissed at the world, the feeling and realization that yes, he hadn't eaten much in the past few day hit him and his stomach loudly protested that fact. In embarrassment, he coughed, attempting to drown out the raging gurgling that was going on.

"Ah, gotcha. You could have picked any other place though, why DC?" Didn't this guy know he was bound to slip on some black ice or some other bullshit walking like that? Not his problem but.... Benji did walk a little faster, putting himself within reach of the older man just in case.

"Something hot and meaty. And no, before you even say it, not your d**k. I don't want something that small."

The older male sneered at the gurgling of Benji's stomach and his efforts to drown out the noise. So he wasn't ashamed of asking a random stranger to buy him food, but he was embarrassed at his own stomach growling. Just what was with this kid?

He watched him walk a little faster, vaguely curious as to why Benji had suddenly decided to put on some speed, when something the younger teen said made him halt in his tracks, eyes wide. Kit stared at the brown-eyed boy in astonishment, his silent lips parted slightly until he finally spoke up.

"...my d**k?" he asked, voice soft. "What prompted that? Benji, you even old enough to be thinking about that stuff?"
