Who: Eden (Cynnybun), Vesna & Emmerich Fisch (kotaline) Where: Halloween Festival, Barton Community Park When: Early evening, just after sunset Weather: A little cloudy and chilly but dry
NOTE: This PRP will be used to fill both my and kotaline's Halloween Event prompts!
Eden's PromptQuote: A fun looking Halloween carnival had been set up near Ian's shop, and it is on this spooky but merry evening that Eden found herself participating in a pumpkin carving contest. Most of the participants were kids so Eden was feeling most confident. However, when it comes to judging time, Eden found out that her pumpkin was not carved. In fact, even though similar in size and shape, it was not her pumpkin at all! Someone did a a switcheroo! When was it? When was her pumpkin switched out? Who did it? And why? Will Eden find out? Vesna's PromptQuote: O-M-G IT'S HALLOWEEN!!! And let's face it, we all know Vesna would not be the girl to sit at home and miss out on ANY of it, especially not her FIRST HALLOWEEN EVER!!! Vesna is most definitely in luck for this occasion as a Halloween carnival has popped up in the park and its got E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. From cutesy to spoopy to downright creepy, you can find it in all forms at this shindig! How does Vesna take to it? How valiant are her attempts to do all the things on this Halloween night? What happens if things end up going not so right in the end? JUST HOW CUTE IS HER COSTUME REALLY?

Ever since Ian had heard about the Halloween festival that would be set up in the park across the street this year, he'd been eagerly pushing Eden about going. It wasn't that she didn't want to, necessarily, she just wasn't as absolutely psyched about it as he seemed to be. Ian seemed determined to make sure she experienced every part of her first Halloween, the biggest holiday she'd been alive for so far. Eden did have to admit- she was kind of excited. Going out on Halloween meant she could dress up! But unfortunately, even though it was only across the street, Ian insisted on coming with her. There would be a lot of people there after all, and a lot of them would be mischievous children and teens with little experience with Raevans. She didn't blame him, but having your dad tag along on a night out with a friend was a little lame. Okay, really lame. At least he'd said she could invite Vesna, which she did immediately after being given the option. At least then she wouldn't be there with only Ian. Vesna had to bring someone too, so then they could kind of pair up.
Another requirement Ian had instilled was that Eden carve a pumpkin. She wasn't exactly crazy about hollowing out a gourd and hacking it up, but there were a bunch of cute designs online and Ian had promised to carve one as well as help her with the squishy guts. He ended up doing most of the scooping after Eden discovered just how slimy they were, but he didn't seem to mind too much. She guessed he was just happy she was participating in the holiday.
That night Eden toted along her successfully carved pumpkin, designed in the image of a skull and flowers. She had to heft it along in both arms, hovering a little lower to the ground than usual, but she was determined to carry it herself. She'd carved it herself after all! And pretty well, if she said so herself- especially for her first time ever!
"Hold it for a sec, 'kay? I gotta text Vesna." She didn't wait for Ian to accept her demand before hurriedly but gingerly handing it to him, pulling her phone out of her purse. She pivoted until she could find a good light source, snapping a peace-sign selfie to send to her friend with the message. She'd managed to put together a cute but comfy demon costume with Caroline's help, and she made sure to get the spiked headband in the frame.
To: Vesna ♥ Hey!! I'm gonna drop off my pumpkin, meet me there?
After adding a cute little demon emoji she pushed send and flipped her hair over her shoulder, stuffing the phone back in her bag and immediately taking her pumpkin back from Ian. It took a few minutes of consulting the map a volunteer had handed them at the gate to find the pumpkin contest, but eventually they managed to weave through the crowd and find the big booth (or rather, Ian managed to keep up with Eden as she easily navigated the crowd).
"Okay," he said with a relieved sigh as they approached the table, "just check in and drop it off, and then we come back, right?" The attendant nodded happily and examined the pumpkin, asking for the prerequisite photo of Eden carving the pumpkin as she recorded her name. They'd chosen to accept pre-carved pumpkins this year, since waiting for everyone to carve a pumpkin at the festival not only took a long time but also ate into participants' time to enjoy the rest of the attractions.
"Alright! We'll be judging and announcing our winners in about two hours! Good luck!"
"Thanks!" Eden flashed a winning smile rimmed in dark lipstick before turning on a time, scanning the crowd around them. "Okay! Now to find Vesna. I think she brought her grandpa, she says he'd really big and undead. Too bad everyone's in costumes, he'll be harder to spot..." She pouted slightly and adjusted the spiked bracelets on her wrists. They weren't sharp, of course, but she liked the edgy feel they added to her costume. "And I think Vesna's a witch!"
Ian chuckled softly and ran a hand through his hair. He'd dressed up slightly as well, but not with nearly as much effort as Eden had used. His demon costume was made up of a classic red horned headband and a red hoodie over a black tee and jeans, topped off with red sneakers. Eden had been a bit disappointed in his lack of effort, but she supposed it was fine; Ian wasn't much for drawing attention, anyway.

"Eden says we shouuuuuld... meet her at the pumpkin place!" Vesna called, turning back to check on her grandpa. "That's where we were headed anyway, so that's easy."
Emmerich grunted, hefting up a huge pumpkin under one arm and a small one in his opposite hand. He saw Vesna floating around him to try to catch a glimpse and angled the larger one away from her, shaking his head admonishingly.
"No peeking."
"I'm gonna have to see your pumpkin when we drop it off," Vesna reasoned, but Emmerich was unmoved, so she took her small pumpkin back from him with a haughty little 'hmph'. "Just remember, Dad told me to take pics of both of them," she warned.
"You can when the judging is over," Emmerich said, and gestured towards a table nearby. "There is the table," he observed, and picked up the pace with his lumbering shuffle insofar as he could.
"There's Eden!" Vesna said. She zipped ahead and practically pushed her pumpkin at the attendant. "Hithisismypumpkin!" she gushed. She prepared to dash to Eden, but the attendant stopped her.
"Wait, we need your name!"
"Oh! Vesna? Vesna Fisch." She wrote down her name and looked up to see that the attendant was still looking at her expectantly.
"Do you have a picture of you carving the pumpkin?" she prompted.
"Oh? Oh!" Vesna blushed, stammering, "No, I don't."
"My granddaughter cannot be photographed," her grandfather rumbled behind her, having finally caught up. "I have a photograph here for my entry, and I observed her carving hers."
"Unfortunately, we can't accept her entry without a photograph," the attendant said sympathetically. "But we can accept yours, sir."
Vesna deflated a little bit and Emmerich patted her heavily on the shoulder. "We will take yours home. I think it is a first place pumpkin."
She grinned halfheartedly and punched him lightly on the shoulder. "Okay Grandpa, then you gotta win for both of us," she decided. "And we'll split the prize!"
"Maybe," Emmerich replied lightly. "I will finish here shortly. Go greet your friend."
She didn't need telling twice, and she waved again at Eden, zipping over to greet her and Ian. "Hi!! Your costume looks so amazing! Did you make it yourself?? It's so fancy! I just borrowed some of Dad's wizard stuff, but I tried to make it cute." She doffed her pointy hat, which was actually not Lorenzo's, but borrowed from one of his friends. "Hi Ian! Grandpa's gonna join us soon, too. I like your costume. Grandpa didn't dress up at all, but he says no one'll notice, so it's fine." She shrugged idly.
Emmerich finished his registration and rejoined the group, nodding curtly to Eden and Ian. "I am Emmerich, Lorenzo's father. Thank you for inviting us."
"Oh, yeah!" Vesna said. "Thanks and all!"

When she spotted Vesna through the crowd Eden held up a hand and waved it eagerly above her head. She bobbed in place until Vesna was done at the pumpkin booth, then promptly wrapped her arms around her friend in a quick hug once they were close enough. Noticing that she hadn't left her pumpkin at the booth, Eden looked at Vesna in confusing before becoming distracted by her words.
"Aw, thanks! You look so seriously cute, I love the little ribbons!" She beamed brightly and squeezed her phone in her hand gently. She always had the urge to take a selfie with Vesna, but had to constantly remind herself that it was impossible. Not only would Vesna not be in the picture, neither would she as an extension of the other girl's powers. She huffed softly through her nose.
Meanwhile Ian just chuckled, watching the two in their reunion until Vesna spoke to him. He smiled warmly and touched the red horned headband atop his head. "Good to see you, Vesna--thank you." When Emmerich joined them Ian had to take a moment to process what he was seeing. Even Eden let her gaze linger on the obviously undead man, his cold skintone too evenly and expertly uniform to be makeup. Even his eyes had a glassy look to them that surely couldn't be faked. But nonetheless the two smiled in greeting and Ian waved a hand.
"Of course. It's been so long since you two got together, a playdate was overdue." Eden wrinkled her nose beside him at the word 'playdate'--they weren't babies! She immediately wrapped her arms around Vesna's elbow and tugged her toward the game booths.
"So what should we do first? Games? Rides?" Even if the festival was themed after Halloween, the classic attractions of any carnival or fair were still present. She ignored the slight anxious grimace on Ian's face at the mention of rides, focusing on Vesna.

"You look cute!" Vesna countered, admiring Eden's outfit. She had slapped hers together, but Eden actually looked cool- everything matched perfectly. The color scheme and the makeup reminded Vesna of a Sailor Moon villain- in a good way. "I bet your followers love it!"
Emmerich didn't seem to notice the slight, lingering stares. Vesna punched his arm playfully, and he made no sign of having felt that, either. "Yeah, lucky Grandpa could come along, since Dad's so busy," she agreed. "He says hi, by the way. He wanted to make it, but he's got a bunch of boring undead rights outreach stuff."
"Undead rights are important," reminded Emmerich gently.
"Yeah, but hanging out is important, too! And I haven't seen Eden in for-ever. Not in real life, anyway."
She allowed herself to be tugged towards the game booths, eyes scanning the prizes. Vesna was not too old or too proud for stuffed animals, and she was definitely not too old or too proud to get into winning things. Since it didn't seem like she had a chance at winning the pumpkin carving contest, she was more than willing to take out her frustrations on some fair games. "Games sound fun!" she enthused. "Plus, like, I'm not totally sure how many rides we can, uh, ride." She looked thoughtfully down at the trailing ribbon where her legs should have been. "I play a lot of videogames, so I'll probably be good at fair games? I bet I can at least win us some matching prizes, so let's find a booth that has some cool stuff."

Vesna's praise of her outfit made Eden's lips curl a little more and she floated a little higher. Her followers had eaten it up--after only half an hour she already had over a thousand likes on the selfie. The numbers were always quite a shock, even if they generally matched her follower count.
Eden laughed softly when Vesna teased Lorenzo about his work. She'd only met the man once or twice, and only for very brief amounts of time, but she already knew he was less than energetic. His personality clashed in the most ironic of ways with Vesna's. But then again, so did her own with Ian's. It almost seemed like fate for them to be friends!
"I know, right? Ugh, I hate that we live so far away from each other--it makes hanging out really hard," she pouted. And Vesna couldn't even send her selfies on Snapchat. Sure there were plenty of cute environment shots, but going so long without seeing her best friend's face was disappointing. "Thank goodness for texting, huh?"
Ian checked his phone, taking a breath. "Okay, we can probably get a few games in, there's about an hour and a half until the pumpkin judging." Eden glanced at him, knowing there was more. "And maybe some afterward if you're up to it. It's already kind of late and it's getting colder." Though the unamused look on his charge's face was strong, Ian managed to keep his voice authoritative if still gentle.
With a soft huff of a sigh Eden turned her attention back to the games and smirked, eyeing the booths like a predator. After her trip to the boardwalk with Cruz in the summer, she knew that some of these games were hopelessly rigged, requiring masterful aim and skill to hack them. Not to mention she would readily admit that her aim with darts left much to be desired and she wasn't the most precise ring-tosser. She'd play if Vesna wanted, but she didn't expect to win. Now the water squirters... "Hey, what about this one? It's kinda like a video game right? You got the controller...thingy, with the buttons, and a target!" She pointed at a horse racing game with water guns. If they could just get the streams lined up precisely fast enough, maybe they could win! "And look! Oh my gosh, it's so cute! There was a big colorful grunny plush hanging above the booth, all done up in a witches' hat and bow for the holiday. "It's totally meant for you!"
