This enemy can be fought solo!

You venture a bit out into the swamplands, following a strange sound in the distance -- and before you can get too far, you spot a medium-sized animal, floundering around a bit among the trees. As you approach, you notice something strange: some shredded fabric still clinging around one foot, or around its neck, like the remnants of some long-destroyed clothing.

At this point, it occurs to you that this might be a transformed human being. maybe it's even one of you. And you must capture it.

Except it doesn't seem to want to be captured. Your approach spooks it, and it attacks you in blind fear.

Hit Points: 30 HP
Damage: 4 HP each time you attack

If you bring this monster down to 5HP or below, it is injured and can be captured and brought back to the campsite for safe keeping until you can figure out what to do. However, if you drop it below 0HP, you kill it.

Either outcome, once finished with at least 500 words each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:

1-10: You are bitten during the attack, and are turned into an animal! Size is determined by your weapon: agile weapons become small animals, balanced become medium sized, and heavy become large.

11-40: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent.

100: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Fine Wine: Why would an animal have a bottle of wine? Considering all that's going on, we strongly suggest you don't drink. If you act rashly and do, though, please PM and be blue for consequences.

There was a panda in the woods.

Zan knew it was a human because it was wearing a tie, but it was still really, really strange to see such an animal outside of a zoo. Hand on his dagger, he approached slowly and carefully for a change, wondering if this one might be another of Circe's more sedate victims.

"Hey, buddy! Wanna come back to camp with me?"

The bear turned on him, whacking him with the back of its paw and sending him sprawling, the blade of his dagger jamming through its sheath and digging into the ground.

Not a sedate victim, then.

Zan drew his legs up under him and pulled at his weapon's hilt as he tried to stand, ripping the sheath as he went. At least he was free, but it was a shame nonetheless. He faced the panda with his dagger drawn and brows turned down.

"That was a mistake... Hans."

The panda roared at the threat in Zan's voice, or maybe it was just his overconfident glare. Either way, it rolled to its feet and lumbered toward him, still grumbling. Zan held his ground for a second or two, then started a charge of his own. They slammed into each other, the human stabbing and the animal clawing and biting.

They eventually broke apart, both panting and disheveled. The bear was freely bleeding now, and although Zan felt pretty shitty about that, it wasn't quite shitty enough for him to stop fighting.

He shook his head a little to clear it, lunging forward and stabbing the bear in the chest. It was a surprisingly deep cut, and a new streak of blood joined the others, this one an obvious bright red against Hans's pristine white fur. Zan winced.

"Sorry, man."

The bear moved more quickly than he anticipated, pushing him over for the second time. At least he didn't fall on his knife.

Things weren't going well. No matter how much a** he kicked, Hans seemed no closer to giving in than he had when they'd began. Zan wasn't interested in running away or killing the poor sap just to prove a point, but the fight was heading that was if he didn't do something to change it quickly. Death or cowardice. Both options were pretty gross.

Zan temporarily abandoned the fight with a frown, darting off toward a large, sturdy tree. A number of vines hung from its branches, and Zan had one of them hacked down before Hans had reached him, panda bellows accompanying his work. He wasn't sure if this was going to work, but it was worth a shot. What good was he to his god if he wasn't willing to try some s**t.

With a shout of his own, Zan jumped from the tree onto Hans's back, wrapping his vine around the bear's neck and pulling.

Hans struggled and screamed, clearly not happy with the situation, but then again, who would be? Zan held on until the bear was no longer moving, quick to circle around his large body to make sure Hans was still breathing once he had fallen. Now, there was just the issue of how he was going to get him back to camp. Finding one of those flowers half crushed under the panda's body was hardly payment enough for this kind of manual labor.
