Many things often worried Caper - the state of his plants, a small stain on the counter, an arguing couple in public - but today he almost felt terrified. The Geist wasn't quite sure why his stomach was in so many knots, but it had upset him greatly to hear the words that had come from Evan's lips. His mother and Nausicaa were going to imbue a pair of stones it seemed and they were in the market for a new, bigger home. His toes curled, eyes already long shut.
Caper sat under the bridge, the occasional sound of a carriage over head. It was a little damp and dark as Below always was, but the soft glow of his tendrils gave him away to any searching eyes. It was here he sometimes met Wednesday, and if she was able to sneak away from the Academy, they would hang out again today. He never liked straying too far, but no one had ever bothered them down here as opposed to the cafe or park. They were sort of an odd pair and it always seemed to draw attention.
With a long sigh Caper sat in wait, hair flipped to the one side. If she didn't show within the hour, he was going to slink back home and journal out his thoughts. However he wasn't entirely sure he could face his adoptive mother right now, the burning sensation around his heart almost making him a bit angry. Evan didn't even care that much for children because they were often rude and impolite (unlike him) - why did she want more?

Wednesday had left the academy grounds some hours ago. She had distracted herself with wandering around the town, but for once was keeping herself out of trouble. School just wasn't feeling school that day, and the sight of the academy's walls was starting to make her feel like she was locked away in some sort of prison cell. Had she stayed, Wednesday was worried she might have gone insane. The stir crazy had been getting to her. So, Wednesday packed an overnight bag and was planning to sleep under the bridge that evening. Yah, it was against school rules. Yah, Wednesday often broke them. Wednesday just didn't see herself as a 'problem student' as some liked to call her. Wednesday just wanted to carve out her own path and experience life the way she wanted to. Not that way it was expected of her. Some people didn't agree with that, and those people could ******** off. The hybrid had packed enough blankets in her over-sized mountain climbing bag just incase she was able to convince Caper to stay the night with her. Wednesday knew that Caper didn't like to displease his mother, but the poor boy just needed to loosen up and be adventurous sometimes. Just not going home one night wasn't a big deal anyways. It would be totally fine. Wednesday would help him see that. After wandering around for some hours, Wednesday finally found herself en-route to the bridge the two always met at. Her breathe was visible in the slightly chilled air, and the hybrid cursed herself under her breath for nothing bringing a heavier sweater. It didn't take long for Wednesday to get to the usual meeting place, and with one quick peer over the edge, the hybrid spotted Caper. A rather wicked expression tore across Wednesday's face. The sad thing was, Wednesday had no malice behind her somewhat frightening smile. That was just what she looked like when she was happy. The hybrid swung her legs over the ledge and jumped down, spreading her wings and giving them a few strong flaps to soften her landing, just barely managing to land on her feet without hurting herself. "Yo, babe." She called from a mere few feet away, tossing the large bag beside him, her happy expression suddenly draining from her face as a far darker, more sinister look replaced it. "What's the glum expression for this time, baby? Someone messin' with you? Who I gotta kill?"

Wednesday's sudden presence startled him, eyes larger than usual as her boots hit the ground and then her accompanying bag. It appeared the hybrid was out here for the long haul today but Caper was too caught up in his own troubles to try and dissuade her right now. "Please don't kill anyone," he blurted in a worried trill. He was upset with his Mother but that was a little extreme. Then again, Wednesday only ever seemed to act in the extremes. He scooted over, making room for her between himself and her belongings. His pants were going to get soiled at this rate from the muddy ground.
"My Mom and Nausi are going to imbue some stones, I guess," he informed in a monotone, hugging his knees closer to his chest. Absently he stuck a finger under the elastic of his tall socks. "She didn't tell me yet. I overheard them talking about getting a bigger house and when Nausicaa might move in." His lower lip practically wibbled, digging his chin against his knees. "My Mom doesn't really like most kids, so I don't know why. I..." he trailed off, looking away from Wednesday. He didn't even know how to articulate his frustrations with the situation. It would be nice to have his own room in the bigger house (that wasn't a transformed closet), but it was all a lot of change at once.

Wednesday wasted no time and came to sit down beside her boyfriend, settling in beside him and wrapping a pale arm around his shoulders and pulling him in. It was a comforting gesture, but the words that spilled from her mouth were far from soothing. "Why are you so upset?" Her tone was a little harsh, but Wednesday had always been one to ask the tough questions. "Your mom's a bit of a cow, let's face it, but that's no reason to get upset. You had to know she wasn't going to stay single forever. That she was probably going to want to imbue with someone she loved. Let's face it, your mom may not be overly touchy-feeling, and pretty austere, but she's normal, Caper. When two peeps fall in love, doesn't matter what their preferences are, they tend to wanna build a legacy together." Wednesday loosened her grip on the smaller boy, turning to face him more fully, trying to capture his gaze. "Now, I know you're hella upset right now, but you gotta ask yourself things you don't wanna be asked right now. Are you just upset because you like being momma's spoiled little boy. Are you upset because you don't think she'll love you anymore because you're adopted, and now she'll have her blood own kids to worry about? Are you scared she's just been lying to you? 'Cause Caper, baby, with the way your mom fusses over you I really don't think your fears have a leg to stand on. So why not listen to reason? C'mon, quit frowning. Give yourself some answers, and look at me. Tell me why this matters so much. I mean, really, Caper. If the two of them do get a house together, with the kinda cash flow they have ... you'd have the kinda life most kids at the academy only dream of. What's to be upset about?"

As always, Caper enjoyed her touch but like more than often, he did not care for Wednesday's harsh brand of reality. Granted, he admired her attitude and her apparent spine (for he was always so spineless), but it always took him a long moment to digest her words. "She decided to make her family with me," he retorted quickly, reminding Wednesday that Evan had gone out of her way to adopt him on her own. He frowned further.
Wednesday did have a point even if he was a bit reluctant to admit it. "I don't want things in place of having my Mom," he warned a bit lowly, hoping Wednesday wouldn't start seeing money signs in her eyes. His mother did not approve of her already; Wednesday day dreaming about how extra spoiled he could become was almost a little dangerous. "Nausi is nice but I don't know her like my Mom," he tried a bit fruitlessly, grasping for straws. He wanted to give Wednesday a confident and logical response but he couldn't. Sometimes you couldn't explain your emotions. He ran a hand down his face, shaking his head.
"I'm not spoiled for liking my Mom's attention. She teaches me a lot of useful things. I'm not wrong for wanting that," he defended, a little hurt that the hybrid would go as far to call him spoiled.

"And now it sounds like she's deciding to add to it." Wednesday shrugged easily at the geist. "And it doesn't really matter if you like Nausicaa or not, Caper. Your mom does, and that's kinda all that matters. It's not up to you what they decide to do with their future, as shitty as it is to say that. You've got no control over them. They can make their own decisions, and if they wanna buy a big ol' house and imbue a couple of stones together, there is literally nothing you can do besides accept it and be happy for them." Wednesday couldn't believe she was defending that cow of a mother. Wednesday didn't like Evan at all. Evan was everything Wednesday had been fighting against her whole life. It was a complete surprise Caper turned out half as pleasant as he had. "I'm not saying you're spoiled. At least, I didn't think you were. But Evan has obviously tried to spoil you with all her free time. It's not spoiled to want attention, but it is spoiled andselfish to want all of someone's attention. As much as I don't like her, that's really unfair to Evan, and to Nausicaa. As her son, and as someone she gave a home to you kind of owe it to her to support her in this choice. Being upset about having to share your mom with additional family members isn't the worst thing in the world. In fact, it might be good for you. You can cultivate more hobbies, explore yourself more, get to know Caper better. Maybe it's time you get out from under your mummy's fluffy tail and live a little. Just accept life as it's handed to you and deal with things as they come. You're just going to keep being upset if you don't just take this one in stride, babe."

Caper just continued his little half-glare, still not convinced of Wednesday's words. She had a point but the Geist thought he deserved some kind of consideration in his mother's decision. She hadn't even informed him yet of what was going on! With a soft sigh, he turned away the slightest, wallowing in his own pity. "I just want to be included," is what he settled on retorting with. Honestly, he was a little surprised Wednesday was taking Evan's side for how much she disliked his mother, but then again she was probably trying to find the way to see him more often.
"I'm not quite sure what living a little implies," he murmured. He was quite fond of his mother's fluffy tail, thank you very much, but maybe she did have a bit of a point. While he loved his mother's attention, she was a little restrictive. Maybe a pair of stones would keep her eyes elsewhere. However, to be fair, his only hobbies were pretty tame. Growing plants and gardening was awfully hard to go hardcore about.

"I don't think Evan will ever exclude you. You were her first. If she even ends up imbuing with Nausicaa, yah, maybe her time might be a bit more taken up for a little while but you'll always be special to her. Despite how much I hate to admit that, and as much as I hate to support Evan ... this is one of those times where it just makes sense." Wednesday shrugged then. She reached over Caper's lap and grabbed her bag, unzipping her pack and reaching in to grab one of the magically softened wool blankets before swaddling them both in it, then leaning in to kiss his lips with a swift 'smack' of her own. "I don't know, Caper. That's for your to figure out. You have your hobbies, but maybe finding new ones. Maybe ... I dunno. Add scrap booking or blogging or painting to your repertoire. I have faith in you. But I gotta tell you, I gotta stop being so nice. If my sister catches wind she might come beat you up for 'softening' me."

The boy accepted the blanket, pulling it a bit tighter around his shoulders. At first he was surprised by the kiss, swift as ever, but with a soft smile he returned it before she pulled away completely. Wednesday was always something different and even if they didn't look like they meshed well at the surface, there was a lot the quiet Geist admired about her. "I guess," he admitted softly, a sigh whistling through his nose. No, he didn't think his mother would forget about him but he sincerely hoped a pair of infants didn't mean her free time for him would be completely gone.
"There's nothing wrong with being nice," Caper scolded softly but he was smiling a little now. "I want to try gardening more, and maybe some more journaling," the boy offered gently, his tendrils having subsided to the faintest glow. "I think Friday understands not everyone can be a rebel 24//7." Under the blanket he reached for her hand, his fingers a little cold to the touch.

Wednesday didn't hesitate to return Caper's gesture, squeezing his hand firmly in return as she entwined fingers with him. Her expression remained hard though as the name of her sister bounced around and echoed in her head. Friday. When Wednesday and Friday got together they were the meanest spirited people. Blunt, overly rude, overly opinionated and would point out any flaw, and the two together were highly morbid and dark. "I hope you never meet Friday ... " Wednesday's tone was flat. Wednesday had done all she could to keep Friday from finding out about Caper. Wednesday was harsh around Caper, true. But Caper and Evan both had not seen the half of Wednesday's twisted side. "Maybe once you have more free time we could go glow-in-the-dark bowling or something." Wednesday adeptly tried to switch up the conversation, trying to redirect his thinking to a date night instead of his mysterious sister.

Caper had heard the stories but he truly chose to believe Friday could not be as bad as Wednesday wanted him to believe - maybe it was some sort of sibling rivalry and jealousy? It seemed the hybrids type and maybe she was afraid Friday would put her claws on him. He frowned the slightest, still squeezing her warm fingers.
"I-I'm technically free right now," he struggled. Originally he had come out here to escape his temper with Evan, but Wednesday had demolished that pretty quickly. He had intended to stay out pretty long but now that his mood was mostly resolved, he sort of felt the itch to go back and meet curfew. He sighed the slightest but then put on a smile. The Geist knew she thought curfews were bull and she'd only tease him for trying to appease Evan. "If you want to go?"

Wednesday gave one last, finally squeeze to Caper's hand before shifting under the blanket, scooping it up so she can slip out from underneath. It didn't take long for the hybrid to wrap it around her boyfriend like a cloak, grabbing a pin from her hair to slide the two ends of the blankets together like a clasp. "There. That should keep you warm until we get there." Wednesday kissed the geist's nose, then rose to her feet and offered him a hand. "IOf course I want to go. 'm always free for you. C'mon, let's go bowling and get some pizza and just ... chill. It'll be nice." Anything to forget about Friday.
