Keenan had been minding his own business walking down the corridors of the castle when he had heard giggles sound from behind him. The sound was disconcerting, and he slowly twisted his head around to look and see who it might be behind him.
He froze when he caught sight of four girls eyeing him with their hands behind their backs. He shivered and bit his bottom lip as he ran a hand through his hair uneasily. He really didn't like the look in their eyes, it was almost as though they were predators looking for easy prey to take down.
He couldn't help but notice the gleam that came into their eyes when he touched his hair. Oh crap, he couldn't help but think. They had to be part of that makeover club that had asked him if he wanted a free haircut earlier last week. He backed up, his eyes darting around for someone who might help him get away from them.
There was no one around. He gulped nervously, and turned and made a run for it, his hands going protectively around his black stringy hair.
"Go Away! Leave me alone! NOT MY HAIR!!!" He shrieked as he ran wildly down the corridor, his words echoing around him in a mocking manner.
What was the matter with girls these days? Why did they think they could just go around attacking guys with shears and cutting their hair on a whim? Right now he could use a place to hide, or someone to come to his rescue.

Walking down the corridor from the opposite direction, Alarice didn't register the extra noise at first. She was preoccupied with a piece of homework that the Herbology teacher had tasked them with, and she was thinking of a neat topic she could use while delving into her love of tall tales; it was rumored that muggles used to think that the shape of a plant determined what it was good for. It would be fun researching such things and pointing out any hilarious mistakes that had come about with such thinking.
She blinked and discovered that for just one person experiencing mirth, there was an awful lot of laughter around her. She clued in just in time to see a black-haired boy dashing toward her as though he were being chased by harpies. Looking beyond him, it didn't take long for her to guess that he was being chased by something far worse. The echo of his cry hadn't escaped her ears, and her eyes narrowed at the gleam of scissors. So that was it, eh?
She planted her feet square in the middle of the corridor so that the gaggle of crazy girls would either have to screech to a halt or run right into her. "Oy! Didn't you hear the guy? He said to leave him alone!"

Keenan could hear the girls' jeers from behind him as they pursued him down the corridor. Why hadn't he thought of finding a group of guys to walk with? That would have saved him from what was happening to him at this very moment.
He was rather startled when he saw a girl step right in the middle of the hall and plant her feet. Oh no! Was she one of them too? He started to veer off to the left so he could get passed her when he heard her yelling at the other girls.
He nearly fell in astonishment at her words. She was telling the other girls off! By the gleam in her teal eyes he could tell that she meant it. Instead of running he came to a stop and hid himself behind her, hoping her wrath would be enough to scare off the other girls.
If she was going to help protect him he would darn well let her. His hand went to his wand, clasping the handle of it. If he had to he would fight them off, even if it was against the rules.

Alarice could hear the stumbling footsteps of the guy behind her, but she didn't dare turn around to see how he was; she needed to keep her focus on the girls that were chasing him and were now gathered in a huddle in front of her, all traces of mirth gone and replaced with scowls and sinister smiles. She even saw more than one hand reaching into robes with scissors and coming back out with wands. One of them sneered and stepped forward. "You want a haircut, you'll have to wait your turn, munter."
She could almost feel the fire building up behind her eyes, and Alarice clenched her fists in response. A couple of the girls in the back seemed to notice something, and they began to nudge and whisper. She caught words like 'fighting' and 'trouble' and she couldn't help grinning. She WAS one of the few here who would resort to actual fist-fighting as opposed to magic. And why not? Magic was good, but without a wand all you had were words. You always stood a better chance at surviving if you knew other ways to defend yourself. And besides, shouting spells at times wasn't nearly as satisfying as feeling someone's lip get caught on your nails.
When the whispers reached the one who had spoken, instead of making her uneasy like the ones behind her, the girl's sneer grew bigger. "I know about you anyway; you're just a dumb b***h who'd rather fight like some thick-brained muggle than do any actual magic. You're in the teachers' eye; too many more fights and you'll probably be expelled. So just bugger off now like a good little cun-ACK!" The last word ended in a shout as Alarice had made up her mind that she had heard enough, thrown herself on the offender and was now trying to choke her with her uniform tie.

Keenan shivered from fright, his hair falling down in front of his eyes. He started to hyperventilate from the animosity that was filling the room. He was never really good with confrontations, especially those with crazy girls.
He took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. He couldn't help but feel like a coward for hiding behind a girl. Despite the other girls scaring the crap out of him, he took another deep breath and stood up next to his would-be-rescuer.
He wasn't sure what the other girls were whispering, but it didn't seem like anything friendly. Especially with the ring leader's grin turning into a deeper sneer.
He was rather stunned when Alarice suddenly shot forward and started to choke the other girl with her own necktie. Keenan was stunned, he hadn't thought that his rescuer would resort in using physical violence. He jumped when he saw the other girls moving towards him with menace in their eyes.
"Stop! Stay where you are!" He cried whipping out his wand and brandishing it at them.
His hand holding the wand started to shake uncontrollably.
"Yeah, like you have the guts to use magic against us, it's against the rules you little t**t!" One of the girls sneered back as she edged closer.
The other two looked a little more uncertain.
"I'm warning you! Stay back!" He shrieked, his voice going an octave higher than he had wanted to.
The girl rolled her eyes at him and reached out to grab his arm. He shoved her away and used the first spell that came to mind. " LOH-koh-moh-tor MOR-tis!"
The spell hit all three girls causing their legs to get go stiff and wave their arms around to keep from falling over. They looked so undignified and funny that Keenan couldn't help but laugh.

All Alarice could hear was the drumming of blood in her own ears as she grappled with the startled girl, but as the other started to get over the initial shock and pummel her back, she became vaguely aware of other sounds around her; mainly the boy she had tried to shield, shouting something she couldn't make out. She heard the rumble of the girls replying and then had to focus more on her own opponent, who was screeching like a banshee and reaching up towards the strawberry blond bangs hanging down in front of Alarice's face. Oh, b***h did NOT.
She moved one hand to grasp the meaty part of the upper arm just beneath the bone; the resulting shriek as her fingers dug into the nerve-riddled flesh certainly caused her antagonist to think twice about grabbing her hair. Suddenly she heard a commanding voice call out a spell, and girls began suddenly raining down around her like fish spilling from a tuna net. Blinking in surprise, she started laughing along with the boy; they really DID look like fish all dressed up in clothes and flopping around!
Suddenly realizing all of the racket they were making and that most of their foes were incapacitated, she jumped up, going out of her way to trod on the girl rolling on the ground and clutching her arm, and dashed up to the boy. "C'mon; let's get outta here!"

Keenan chortled at the girls flopping around on the floor. He liked how fishlike they looked. Now if only he could remember a spell that would make them shut up.
Their shrill shrieky voices were screaming at him, which was not something he had expected. He should have known they would sound like banshees.
"You bloody bampot! Why the hell would you cast a spell on us? Take it off!" "You stinking bloody berk! You suck!" "You bloody blighter, I"m going to get you!"
It was the last statement that scared him. Oh crap! Just how long did this spell last for? He glanced around and caught sight of his blonde rescuer fighting off the last girl. When she went down grasping her arm in agony he couldn't help but laugh.
She should have kept her hands to herself. He shook his head at the girls on the floor. "You girls ought to leave me alone, or you'll be the ones that are sorry."
He agreed with the blonde girl when she rushed up and told him they should get out of there. "Right, good thinking." He winked at her then rushed off down the corridor, thinking of hiding out in his secret hangout until the girls' ruckus was over with.
He knew they would probably try and hunt him down, but at that moment he couldn't worry too much about it.
"If you want, you can come see my hideout," He whispered to the girl who was keeping up with him.

Alarice couldn't help but send a laugh back at them for all the times they were uttering the word 'bloody'. "Bloody this, bloody that! Must be all your time of the month, yeah!" She didn't wait around for any replies, but paused just long enough to make sure the boy was following her.
She didn't stop until she could no longer hear the cries from the girls in the hallway; it would be easier now to pretend that they didn't know anything about it, as long as they could quiet their heaves and gasps from all that running. She turned as the boy spoke and tilted her head slightly. "If it's a good spot where the teachers won't find us when those idiots feed them their crap-laden story about how we both started it, I'd love to see it." She didn't really think about the concept that she was the first to come to blows and therefore might be seen as having started it; she never questioned such things when she felt the recipients deserved it.
She heard footsteps sounding down the hall, and even though it wasn't likely that they had anything to do with their scrap, it still made her a bit on edge. "Let's go before we're seen by too many people."

Keenan couldn't help but chortle at her reply to the other girls. Not that he actually understood what the whole month thing had to do with it. He was a boy after all and didn't pay attention to girly stuff. Not that he had many females in his life. For the past five years he had been living with his bachelor uncles.
They still hadn't told him much about girls, except to avoid them when they got a crazy gleam in their eyes. That had been rather helpful, since it seemed that most of the girls at the school tended to get that look when they wanted to cut his hair off.
He followed after the blond girl, his legs aching from all the walking. He had never walked so fast in his life. This girl seemed to be hard to keep up with. She must be used to making fast getaways.
"Oh it's a good spot," He wheezed, pushing his glasses up on his nose. He rather hated how they slide down his face. He'd have to get a piece of tape to put on the nose piece sometime soon. "No one has ever found it, you can tell by how dirty it is. I hope you're not squeamish about dirt."
His ears twitched at the sound of footsteps and he nodded in agreement with her words.
"This way," He said and took her down a hall to the left.
They walked for ten feet when he came to a stop and pressed his hand against the stone wall until he found the small notch in one brick. He pressed the notch and a small door slide open, revealing a dusty old room. Inside was shelves full of old books, an old bench, and a small window that let in a little bit of light.
"It is a bit dark and dank smelling, but it's private and away from people. If you want feel free to check out some of my books. I had to hide them here so my roommates wouldn't make fun of them. For some odd reason people think Sasquatch and Aliens aren't real. I don't know why, I mean dragons, unicorns, vampires and all kinds of things are real, so why couldn't they be?" He asked.

Alarice wanted to go faster, but she saw that her new friend was wheezing a little, so she slowed her pace a bit with reluctance. "Nah, dirt's just fine. Can't stand the damp though; makes my hair go crazy." She didn't bother to add that damp made her nervous as well, like she could expect water to come gushing in through the cracks in the walls any second. She DID just meet this guy, even though they at least shared sentiments when it came to hair.
She followed the boy until she found herself in the room he had mentioned, thankfully void of any sort of damp. She looked around with interest at the shelves full of books, and had trouble stopping herself from reaching up and stroking the spines as though they were the actual spines of living things. They looked like they had some wonderful stories inside.
A thought that was only confirmed when the boy spoke of Sasquatch and aliens. Her eyes began to gleam and for a moment she let her excitement shine through without reservation. "Oh isn't that just so? I mean come on; we have apes that have their hair harvested for invisibility cloaks, but NO we can't have a large hairy thing with big feet running around; that would be SILLY. And we have living shrouds that creep into people's beds and eat people, but aliens doing the same thing? Why that's just NONsense!"

Keenan did notice that his rescuer had slowed her pace and was grateful. Most times people just left him behind to take the wrap for things. Which was why he didn't have a friend yet. He'd been at Hogwarts for months now and still not a single friend, he felt like a leper sometimes. Just because he was the odd one out and weirded people out they liked to leave him out of everything. It was rather disheartening.
He shot a grin at his rescuer and realized he had yet to find out what her name was. "I know what you mean, my hair hates the damp. Though instead of poofing up it just gets limp and sad." He said.
He could feel a sort of nervous air coming off of her. He wondered if he was making her uncomfortable. Most girls at school always avoided him, perhaps that was why?
He sighed and pushed his glasses up again. "dratted things." He muttered as she followed him into the room.
He turned around and was happy to see the delighted look in her eyes. He felt her excitement and it made him even more thrilled.
"I know right? What about the Lloch Ness Monster? I mean come on! It's got to exist! I bet the wizarding world has been keeping it a secret from muggles for a long time! I plan on debunking all the naysayers and proving that all the creatures muggles believe to exist DO EXIST. To say I'm mad that they've kept unicorns and magical things secret from the world is putting it mildly. I know kids that believe in them and their stupid parents end up convincing them it's all make-believe. It's maddening as hell!"
He covered his mouth in shock at his last statement. "Sorry, I didn't mean to get so adamant. I am just really passionate about magical and supernatural things. Oh, I'm Keenan Andruis, what's your name?"
