It started like a fire in his blood - burning him from the inside out. He ran. Not because he was being chased, nor was he running because he was afraid. No, he was running for the sheer joy of it. Of muscles pumping, blood flowing, breath rushing through him. His body worked like a well-oiled machine. Each pumping of his muscles, of his heavy hooves thundering against the ground, stirred up flowers and dust in his wake. Joy coursed through him, filling every small space until he was in ecstasy.
The large stallion let out a breathless laugh, alone in his little world of running, of whimsy set free. It was the small things he held onto, since his mate had abandoned him and left his heart in ruin. The gentle giant found solace in what he could, and did not let the pain shine through. Instead, a rather stupid grin seemed imprinted in her face. He would not let the sadness through - there was too much beauty and possibility in the world.
A hawk screeched high above him, and Yngvarr dug in hooves and slid to a clumsy stop, his eyes looking up into the skies high above, watching the dark bird of prey circle overhead. A spark of envy passed through him - and he closed his eyes, allowing the unhurried winds to twist his mane. It was as close to flying as he would ever feel.
Opening his eyes once more, the large stallion trotted through the grass, listening to the hawk screech and watching it dive through the air effortlessly.
Beautiful flying creature....
After a moment of quiet trotting the stallion snorted loudly, muscles bunching up as he began to pick up the pace more and more, deciding that racing the wind would be his flying!

Tobia preened a little, staring down at their reflection in the still surface of the pond. They had been in a peculiar mood lately, a stirring of malcontent brewing under the surface of their skin. It always came when Tobia wandered into unfamiliar territory, and they had to remind themselves, more forcefully than normal, to keep their head up. They had grown used to the whispers and stares that usually followed them, and they also knew that those would fade in time. They always did, but the first day was always the hardest, was always the day they had to steel their heart just a little bit more.
To compensate though, Tobia had decided to spend extra time getting ready for the day for as a pick-me-up. 'Feeling good on the inside helps when you are feeling good on the outside,' Tobia thought with a cheerful hum, giving their wings a good flutter and enjoying the feeling of the fresh groomed feathers rubbing against their back. Their favorite silver bangles sat on their front legs, small stars and little teardrop amethysts dangling from their rim and clinking together satisfyingly with ever step. Tobia had forgone his favored silks though, instead had allowed his coat to be brushed out and showing off their broad, muscled shoulders. Tobia did another turn, taking another moment to admire their reflection in the mirror, taking in their short cropped mane and the sleek shine to their coat and tail. They blew themselves a kiss, fluttering their long, painted lashes at themselves in satisfaction.
'Today will be a wonderful day,' Tobia thought to themselves in satisfaction, finally turning away from their self-indulgent preening and looking upward to the sky. He heard the screech of a nearby hawk, and his wings fluttered, antsy in anticipation. 'Perhaps...' they thought, eyes still upward, letting their wings spread a little wider and taking a few, cautious flaps.
