Mini-Chapter 2: Festivals

Quote:
Matori
Now that years have passed since their enslavement, the Matori have established unique festivals separate from Oba. One such festival is about to begin; the Len Harvest. This celebration is in honor of the great fish migration, a sign of the coming fishing prosperity, and consists of blessing the fisherman boats and having a great feast with the day's catch.

Besaji Docks: Dawn

It was moments before dawn, the sky lightening as the sun drew closer to the surface against the sea. The Matori gathered along the beaches, where the fisherman docked their boats in long rows. The waves bobbed the wooden vessels, bouncing them in a gentle rhythm that fascinated younglings and soothed those familiar with the sea.

With the biggest fishing population in all of Matori, Besaji gathered together on the shore to celebrate one of the most meaningful festivals of their people. Although they were the biggest, many other settlements throughout the land would take part in a similar celebration, one in honor of Len and the bounty of the sea.

With the sun peaking over the horizon, it seems to set things in motion. Fishermen move out toward their boats, taking the trinkets and blessings from their families meant to show good fortune and great bounty. Family members wait in the sand, watching as the boats sail off to take part in the first great fishing expedition of the year. A great migration finally was occurring in the sea, meaning the Matori would have weeks of near endless supplies of fish to bring home.

Seen as a blessing from Len, the fishermen were set to spend the day fishing, as the rest of the settlement would prepare for a great feast upon their return. In the middle of the settlement was the beginning of a large fire, tables surrounding it along with other smaller fires where fish would be cooked throughout the night. This first catch would be shared among everyone, to welcome in the prosperity of the fishing season and to show thanks to Len for another year of good fishing fortune.

Those who did not set up, would still be able to gather supplies, or take part in the many booths surrounding the area. This was only one feast, but the celebrations tended to last for many days beyond the first fishing expedition.

Mano - Post 1

It had been ages since he'd been home to Matori, having been rather afraid to return after the last time that he'd been here. He was glad that he'd come though, not only was he here with someone he cared about but they'd arrived in time for a festival. One that he couldn't help but to find himself completely enthralled with. The idea of a fishing festival of all things was something that warmed his heart just thinking about it since he was from a fishing background. It was in his blood and he rather enjoyed spending his down time fishing... when he wasn't chasing tail at least. Those tended to be two favorite pastimes but today it seemed as though fishing might win out as being the thing that he wanted to spend the most time on.

Well, maybe... given the weather there was going to be a lot of attractive Matorians running around in what he hoped would be skimpy outfits. A thought that caused him to give a bit of a grin before he took his trident in hand, wanting to head toward where everyone was gathering. He was all for helping out wherever he was needed. While he wanted nothing more then to go fishing he knew he might not be able to do that part since he lacked a boat of his own. If anyone was doing fishing from the beach though, the sort that involved diving and spear fishing he was there! If not he was sure he could find other ways to entertain himself. Ways that he hoped would involve making friends with the natives he thought to himself.

Before he raced off to dive into the sea... or somewhere else just as fun he turned and held out a hand to Kyrian, "Come on, Honey, let's go find us some real fun!"

V'demhe Post 1

The festival was beginning and it made the Alkidike yearn for home. She wanted to see Aisha, to be able to touch her leaves and sit on her roots, but that was for another year. This time she would stay in Matori. For Virain and her daughters. So she smiled as she watched her daughters and their friends. Of course she had her familiars with her as well. All four of them.

When she was nudged in the leg she chuckled and reached down to pet Maha. He was the one that had been with her the longest and she guessed that he could sense her longing to be somewhere else. "It's alright boy." Dem told him. She didn't want him to be on edge since he was the unofficial leader of her beasts.

Masika Post 1

She had put on her best clothes for the occasion and even wore her new accessories. Masika looked back at her mother and waved excitedly. Not only was the festival going to be a lot of fun but she would get to spend her time with her friends! Of course she could do that any day but it was rare to have them all together at the same time. Since her mother practically adopted each friend it was like a family reunion.

When she had her mother's attention she gave a cute wrinkle of her nose then made a small twirl to show off her outfit. Masika wasn't exactly materialistic but she did like to look good. She might find her knight some day and she wanted to look her best when she did. Who knew, he might even be at the festival!

Draven Post 1

Did things have to start so early? He was happy sleeping in and waking up later in the day. Yawning the tall youth, while not as tall as his hostess, stretched as he followed behind Dem and her family. Draven had yet to pull back his long dark hair that at current look like something had made a nest within it, Even his clothing was a bit rumpled as if he had been sleeping in them. Frowning as he did in the early hours, Draven looked around at the goings on around him. The boats were off to catch the fish for the feast, people were bustling around doing what was at task. Him, he just wanted to crawl back into bed and sleep some more until the sun was high over head.

Walking just behind him, Regale the large crimson and gold Janarim remained close to its charge. Growling now and again when Draven stopped to stretch or look around. The boy sighed and looked back at the beast with tired eyes.

"You would be a morning creature." Draven muttered as he moved on, not really wanting to get lost within the mess or people and bodies moving around. Draven had elected to leave Nile at home, leaving her to sleep in the moss nest he had made for her. This hustle and bustle would have sent the Keldari into a panic and it was just more safer that way. Regale on the other hand wouldn't take staying home as an option. Then again Draven wouldn't have had it any other way.. Really...

V'demhe Post 2

A small noise from Sindi, her newest familiar as well as a Perzi, caused her to look back. Seeing Draven and how disheveled he looked she gave a soft smile. Moving toward him, though still keeping a watchful eye on her other children, she reached out to hug the boy. "Sorry to have you up early." Dem knew by now that Draven liked to sleep in. She did what she could to fix his hair and straighten his clothes before placing a kiss to his forehead. "You can have your sister brush your hair if you'd like. Or if you want to go back to sleep you can hop up on Ascale." Normally the Alk would have suggested that the boy sleep on his own Janarim but since there was a crowd she liked the idea better that he be on hers while Regale was watching over him and had better range of movement.

Gaining a teasing smile she gently pinched his cheeks. "Or I can carry my son around so he can sleep." V'demhe chuckled a little as she let go of Draven's face.

Draven Post 2

Staggering backwards a moment, he looked groggily towards Dem as she tried straightening up his hair and clothing. All he really needed was something to eat and maybe a strong tea to wake him up. Stretching again he peered around the tall Alk towards where the kids were heading.

"I'll be alright, just need something to eat. And maybe a strong cup of tea." He said trying to run his fingers through his knotted hair. He would have to do something about that. "In any case, I wouldn't want to really be left behind."

Looking back at the Janarim, he seemed to have grown used to having the Alk fussing over Draven. Before it wasn't so much, but after living in the same place as the rest. He had grown accustomed to it all. Regale glanced about before turning his attention towards Draven again, those gold eyes watching the youth. His tail flicking slightly behind him.

"Alright Regale, You must be hungry as well. Seems we all should have something to eat. Might just dunk my head in the water as well, see if that helps anything." The last part was of course a joke, but the Janarim had yet to understand sarcasm from his charge and would most likely shove Draven off a dock when no one was paying attention.

Kyrian- Post 1

Kyrian could only guess where Mano's mind had wandered as he watched the other male. He chuckled to himself, honestly it was a trait of Mano's he didn't want to change. So long as he wasn't left alone suddenly he would be fine with Mano's wandering mind. He glanced down to Toriu who stuck close to him. The young beast was a tad uneasy around all these people. Reaching down he scratched behind the beasts ears. He hummed softly, Toriu relaxing at the sound.

He was happy with these two. Jumping as he heard Mano call for him he reached out to take the hand. Following the other male close. Kyrian chuckled. "You lead, I'll follow."

Eleina Post One

It wasn't as easy to decide as one would think. Sure Eleina was more Oban then Matorian, but she really did feel more connected to her Matorian roots. Her mother would be at the Oban festival, as would her mentor, but after some soul serching she decided to go with her father to the Matori festival for the first time.

Dressing in her finest outfit she stood at the beach, standing out like a sore thumb. Thankfully she wasn't the only mixed breed there and once she had seen her father's family off she rushed over to where V'demhe and Masika were.

"Hey! Wow you two look beautiful!" She said happily. She had left Nova back at home, she was getting so big and would most likely just get in the way, but it seemed everyone else had brought their familiars.

She nodded a hello to Draven, the two had met briefly during the tournament if she remembered correctly, before turning her attention to Masika. "Isn't this wonderful! I just can't wait for the feast tonight!"

Masika Post 2

She watched the exchange between her mother and brother only to roll her eyes when Draven was teased slightly. Of course she giggled at it all. "If you want me to brush your hair it better be before you go into the water or it'll be all tangled." Masika straightened a little and smiled at him. As well as at Regale. The janarim that had come along with her adopted sibling was interesting.

When a familiar voice caught her attention she lit up and turned to look at Eleina as she got closer. "Eleina! I thought you would be in Oba." Either way she was thrilled to see her friend.

The compliment to her look made her give a small curtsy. "Thank you." The hybrid girl looked over what Eleina was wearing and went wide eyed. "Oh! You look far better than I do!" Masika had to admit the level of detail in the other girl's clothing was amazing. Then she stepped close to Eleina to loop one of her arms with hers. "It's exciting! I can't wait for everything!"

Liylasa Post 1

While Liylasa's father was not Matorian, he seemed to enjoy the Matorian festival all the same. She was excited to wander around the festival too of course, but she had really hoped that her father would take her to see the festival of his people instead. Since that wasn't going to happen she would just have fun and see what she could get into instead! There were booths to be seen, and though she was small she wanted to try out all the different games. She just needed to get some space from her parents to do so. With mind set the small hybrid set off to bother the first booth or person she came upon.

Kani Post 1

Kani had been working hard over the past month or so in an attempt to get stronger. Old Aza had been pushing her daily like how she had when she was a prentice, and now it was really showing. She felt stronger, more capable even. Now that she did she hoped to venture out and maybe see the rest of the land at some point. For now she would just enjoy the break and see what the festival had to offer. Every year she came to the festival of course, but even so she still enjoyed it. She did want to see another festival one day, but that not something she thought would happen anytime soon.

Mano - Post 2

It really didn't take all that long after Mano started to lead before he started to spot all manner of attractive people, Matorian and otherwise, who'd come to enjoy the festival. It was something that had him smiling brightly before he turned to Kyrian and said, "This is quite the bevy of eye candy, huh? I'm really glad that we decided to come." He wished that he'd been able to find Phaedra and bring her along but she'd seemed busy of late. They would definitely head back to Sulburi after the festivals to try to catch up with her again though! For now though he was going to enjoy the festival to the fullest.

"I'm not sure what we should do first, Honey. Try our hands at fishing, help out with the set up, flirt it up with the locals." As well as the tourists. He wasn't sure what to do first but he was eager to do something! They just had to figure out what it was that they wanted to do was all.

(( Anyone can feel free to interact with Mano, though know he's bad about hitting on anyone with a pulse! LOL ))

Kyrian- Post 2

Kyrian chuckled at his companion's words. Yup, that was Mano alright...trust flirting with everyone to be on his list of preferred activities. He tilted his head...fishing. That was Mano's trade primarily. He hummed softly. "Maybe fishing? You know I've never been...I'd like to learn."

He wanted to learn a lot more about the other. Mano was...close to him. Kyrian wanted more things they could do together. He didn't know what the male thought of music...maybe he would have to ask. Speaking of. Kyrian felt the urge to play a little as he ran his fingers along his flute at his side. The urge to play had been getting stronger for a while now. He smiled softly. Then looked back up to Mano. Soon. He'd craft a song. He could feel it.

Natalil Post 1

As much as Natalil wished to join in on the festivities, she found herself standing away from the hustle and bustle of the crowd. She didn't want to be a bother, and it wasn't like she could really help in any form or fashion. A part of her desperately wished to go forth and spend time with her people and she would inch her way forward, only to find her fear of rejection stopping her in her tracks. She mentally cursed to herself, determined to get over her fear. She just wasn't sure when she would be able to do it.
