Maybe it had been a mistake to leave his parents' house before he had finished high school, but Kit had had enough and Hillworth Grammar School, as a boarding school, required students to live in the dorms anyway. After that, the teen had resolved never to go back, not even now that he had finally graduated from high school. He was determined to make his own way in the world and to find a job with which he could support himself.
Finding a good job was harder than he'd thought, though. Even minimum wage, part-time jobs were slim pickings, though Kit suspected that might have been because it was now summer and school was out. Likely all the school kids had already filled all the vacancies available. Also, he knew that since school kids were known to end up quitting once summer was over, many companies didn't like to hire them knowing they would only be seasonal workers.
In addition, many good jobs required more than just a high school diploma to even apply and since Kit hadn't even started college yet - he wasn't sure he could if he wasn't able to make enough money - this made things more difficult than ever. Since he didn't have a car, Kit had limited options for transportation as well. The bus could work, but that in itself had a cost so he had to make sure that the cost for transportation didn't outweigh the pay and benefit of the job. One had to be practical about these sort of things and it was annoying.
A typical day of job hunting for Kit consisted of researching and applying for jobs on the internet in combination with going out into Destiny City and actually asking people if they were hiring. No one seemed to need extra help now that was school was out and students were all looking to make some extra money. There were simply too many kids and not enough part-time or seasonal summer jobs.
Kit felt somewhat discouraged, but he didn't let it get him down because he knew sooner or later, people would need more help and perhaps one of the applications he sent online would get a response. He also knew better than to take things personally, so he didn't worry too much about his skills or having a lack of them. At the very least, once summer came to an end and the winter holidays began to come up, there were sure to be some positions he could apply for.
Kids going back to school would allow him to take their places because as a college student, he would have more flexible hours. On top of that, having the summer off wasn't so bad. As a high school graduate, it only seemed appropriate that he celebrate with a season of relaxation and he wasn't desperate for money yet, so he figured could afford to laze about for a bit. His apartment and the cost of living in general wasn't cheap, though, so he wasn't about to slack off completely. Tomorrow he could send in more online applications and maybe visit some other local businesses to see if anyone had some odd jobs for him to do. If only being a senshi paid money!
