Darlene'sIt took the seat's occupant a moment to register the situation, absorbed as he was in a paperback that was so tattered that every time he turned a page it fell out. There was a neat stack of shed pages on one side of his elbow, a sort of visual indicator of his progress through the doomed volume, and it was in the process of turning to add to this stack that he fully realized that the movement out of the corner of his eye had been to a seat so close. And then the shake of the head he'd been dimly aware of registered as well.
He paused, and then squared the stack, and then eyed Jeremiah, and then eyed the nearly-empty bar, which had never seemed to vast and full of inviting seats as it did now, in this moment, when this a*****e had decided to invade Taym's
considerably large personal bubble and for some reason disapprove of his existence.
Ordinarily he'd have let it go there, but the alcohol had not yet had time to sink in, he was on edge due to both the frustrating destruction of his book and a long day in the shop that had largely consisted of being yelled at over the phone, and a shortage of cigarettes he hadn't noticed til he'd already sat down craving one. And right about the time he considered his options, he became aware of what of the stranger's clothes were visible around the edges of the coat. So instead, after a quick mental inventory of his pockets just in case this ended up in a pat-down--an old habit dying hard--Taym grinned a grin full of very yellow, very straight teeth at the stranger. It looked a hell of a lot like a feral dog snarling.
"Problem?"
