User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Name: Ellis Crowley

Nickname: Ell, L

Age: 19

Birthday: October 17, 1996

Sign: Libra

Gemstone: Opal

Blood Type: O-

Fav. Food: Sushi

Hated Food: Pepperoni

School: Hillworth (Graduate)

Hobbies:
Reading - Ellis always has a book in his hands, although it isn’t very likely to be from the top seller’s list. Ellis is extremely fond of classics and, unfortunately, doesn’t have a lot of disposable income to waste. He has accumulated a small collection of beloved texts that he re-reads frequently, most of which have deep creases in their binders and frayed corners.

Journaling - The second book Ellis carries around with him (and the only one that doesn’t vary from a day to day basis) is his journal. He has been recording his thoughts for as long as he can remember and has every journal he’s ever owned tucked away in a small trunk. It is worth noting that his thoughts are not always the written word - there are also rough sketches and various stages of doodles included within the pages. However, he does not actively do any form of art outside of his journals.

Trinkets - Ellis collects - but nothing specifically. In fact, Ellis couldn’t tell you what he collects until he sees it. He likes to keep objects that he knows he’ll always remember, objects that are imbued with meaning: his dad’s favorite jacket, the funny rock he found on his first day of 5th grade, a butterfly hairclip that had belonged to his neighbor. Anything has the potential to be important if the right memory is attached to it.

Poe - Although Ellis does enjoy the poet, Poe is actually his bunny. His father bought him as a birthday present about four years ago and Ellis has kept extraordinary care of him.

Virtues:

Spontaneous - Ellis finds a certain beauty in not doing what is expected. A life with routines isn’t really a life at all. He often reacts on a whim for the sake of seeing where that path will lead, both in large and small ventures of his life. It isn’t just the adrenaline but also a deeply felt appreciation of the unknown coupled with the need to explore it.

Protective It may seem like a guy as flighty and unpredictable as Ellis would have a problem getting attached to any specific person, but he actually has a fierce protective (and somewhat possessive) streak. It could be chalked up to an abandonment complex, but he holds onto the people he loves fiercely and does his best to let them know how appreciated they are. Even in the midst of stress or work, he will at least take the time to text someone so they don’t feel like he’s forgotten them.

Outgoing Ellis is generally very good at telling stories but he’s even more interested in hearing them. For someone that spends so much of his precious free time reading, Ellis is very extroverted. He enjoys talking with anyone from all walks of life and, more than that, he likes to know why someone is who they became. He’s not shy when it comes to strangers and he has a way of leading awkward groups into conversations. He hates that uncomfortable silence while you wait in line behind someone at the grocery store.

The Grind After graduation, Ellis moved into an apartment on his own to get out from beneath the roof of his mother (and her sisters) but due to several unkind memories linked to his experience with poverty as a child, he tries to work very hard and stay financially stable. He maintains two or three jobs at a time and usually does so without (much) complaint, even if his productivity seems to wane when he is feeling particularly anxious..

Flaws:
The Gray Area - Ellis will do almost anything for the sake of spontaneity. Unfortunately, he doesn’t often stop to think about whether or not what he’s doing is safe or even legal. He has a blurry sense of what is right and wrong, especially for these minor incidents he considers to be a ‘simple misunderstanding’. He’s been caught trespassing and until now, has spent most of his teenage years jumping from one period of grounding to the next. More than his own questionable actions, he often doesn’t weigh the trespasses of others against them - even when others would.

Cabin Fever Cycle - A concrete routine often becomes difficult for Ellis to follow after several months, barring the portions of it that he enjoys. This generally translates into an inability to focus at work and sometimes a last-minute call-in altogether. When his wanderer’s soul needs adventure more than his brain says he needs money, he won’t be able to calm his restlessness until he takes some time to himself. The end of this cycle is characterized by guilt for skipping work or performing poorly and thus, he dives head first back into his job (or job hunt, if he really screwed up).

Anxiety - It’s hard to explain anxiety, but it’s a plague Ellis has dealt with throughout his life. He has gotten better at controlling it through keeping journals and expressing his thoughts and feelings, but during highly stressful times in his life he has a hard time keeping his gnawing thoughts at bay. His income and stability are among the things he worries about the most, though there are several different lead characters in the play too. He becomes a little more reclusive during these times and often stops answering calls or spending his free time outside of his apartment.

Unreliable - With his life so consumed by work and his underlying worries, it’s very hard to get him to commit to doing anything with his free time. This is partially due to his changing schedule and partially due to him wanting to use said free time to its maximum worth. He very seldom gives a definitive answer about what his plans are and if he ever says ‘let me think about it’ he is almost guaranteed to say no.

Mythology
Crossroads are considered a place of 'liminity' - a place inbetween, neither here nor there. For centuries, crossroads have been revered by different cultures as a place shrouded in mystery where almost anything can happen. Different cultures throughout time have used these joining grounds for different purposes - they have constructed monuments and altars, made sacrifices, and reportedly even signed contracts with the devil.

Since well before Roman times, crossroads have also been associated with death. Suicide victims and criminals were often buried at the crossroads to prevent their angry souls from returning to nearby towns, under the assumption that they would not be able to remember which path leads them home. This place of liminity traps their souls indefinitely. It should come as no surprise that they are also known for several famous hanging trees and execution grounds, the most notable being Tyburn Gallows in England. It's easier to move a body a few feet than a few miles, after all.

ATTACKS

Sailor Scout Attack: "Dead Man's Noose!"

When Sadr casts his magic on another person, they experience the most common death of the spirits trapped in the crossroads - execution by hanging. It feels as if a noose has been placed around their neck and tightened to the point of choking, which induces the sensation of suffocating, immense pain from the chokehold, and often times panic by association. The noose itself can not be seen or touched physically and thus can not be pulled off.

Cast Gesture: Sadr draws a slash across his own throat with his pointer finger as he calls his magic.
Duration: Ten Seconds
Number of Uses: Two
Number of Affected People: One

Super Sailor Scout Attack: "Dead Man's Hanging Noose!"

Throughout the duration of the attack, the subject will be lifted slightly into the air to hang a couple of feet over the ground. The noose itself can not be seen or touched physically and thus can not be pulled off. When the magic runs out, the person will drop.

Cast Gesture: Sadr draws a slash across his own throat with his pointer finger as he calls his magic.
Duration: Ten Seconds
Number of Uses: Two
Number of Affected People: Two

Eternal Sailor Attack: "Stuck at the Crossroads!"

When Sadr casts his magic, any character standing within 10 feet of the impact will be ensnared in the illusion of being transported to a crossroads. The paths are wide, pale cobblestone that seem to stretch endlessly in all four directions as far as the eye can see over rolling, green hills.

Characters start in the center - should they try to walk down a path within the illusion, it will continue endlessly. Near the end of the attack, the illusion will loop them back to the crossroads. Characters may also choose to stand still and wait out the timer. No matter how far a character walks, they will not be able to escape the illusion until the timer runs out, even they leave the original casting area.

The nature of the attack often brings a lingering feeling of panic and anxiety, attributed to the sense of being both lost and trapped.

Casting Gesture: Sadr slashes his pointer fingers through the air simultaneously, creating a glowing x pattern. When it hits the ground, it becomes the epicenter for the illusion snare.
Duration: 45 seconds
Number of Uses: One
Area Of Snare: 10 feet
