The mall was busy with people going to and fro everywhere you looked, though it was to be expected as it was the weekend. Normally Richard wouldn’t have gone unless it was during the week but he needed to go to the music instrument store and pick up a replacement string for his guitar. He was currently wearing a simple pair of black jeans and a dark green t-shirt, so he was easily blending into the crowd of shoppers. Not that he was worried about it as he wasn’t planning on changing into Huntite and draining anyone right now seeing how he was simply shopping.

Kit was leaning against a wall near the bathrooms when he noticed the fellow enter the music store. He was just another stranger, of course, but the impression he gave off with his beard and casual clothing combined with the fact that he was entering that particular store made Kit curious. Pushing off the wall, he grinned to himself and entered the same store on the pretense of finding out what this man was up to. Was he a musician? Did he just work there? Was he looking to become a musician, perhaps? Any combination of the above? With nothing better to do, the young man decided to find out. As he walked into the place, glancing about for his target, his hand reached into a pocket on the leg of his pants and he pulled out a small, spiral-bound book with a pencil stuck through the spring that was its binding.

Richard made his way into the store and after a quick glance around he headed towards the guitar section. He didn’t notice his follower since it wasn’t unusual for people to come in and out of the store. Instead his attention was on scanning the merchandise until he found the guitar string section. He came to a stop in front of the section and looked at the different choices offered. While he had a brand he tended to stick to, he was not about to skip looking to see if there was a cheaper brand that didn’t drop in quality. Not finding any such brand he picked up his normal then stood there to decide if he wanted to buy just one for now or buy a second as a backup as well.

Once he’d found his subject, the book flipped open and the pencil was slid out for use. Kit’s gaze flickered up and down from his paper as he stood off to one side and sketched the man regarding the choices of guitar strings. It seemed he was an experience musician, then. Even if he didn’t play or own a guitar himself, he’d have to have some knowledge in order to have taken such time to carefully weigh his options without having to consult anything or anyone else. He didn’t seem nervous or confused; instead, he had the demeanor of a man attempting to make a careful decision from the choices presented to him. Kit’s grin broadened as his hand increased speed and his pencil strokes became more defined. That confidence...was it in his posture or pose? His facial expression? Whatever it was, he wanted to capture it in his sketch and he had to do so quickly before the stranger moved away. It was an intriguing challenge, especially with the risk that at any moment, the other man could have looked up to find this weirdo staring at him with a pencil and sketchbook in his hands and a somewhat creepy grin on his face.

After a few moments of deliberating, Richard finally decided in the long run it would be cheaper to just buy the spare since it would also save him a trip to the mall and save on gas. So he picked up a second string and glanced over the rest of the guitar section and thought about if he had anything else that might need replaced any time soon. While doing this he caught a glimpse of the young man with a sketchpad and pencil out of the corner of his eye. He didn’t freeze or jerk when he spotted him but calmly turned his head a bit more to look at the kid with a raised eyebrow. “Can I help you?” He asked eyeing the grin the kid had on his face.

“You already are,” the eighteen-year-old answered, smirking as he continued to sketch. “You have a really nice look to you, you know. Your build, body, face...and that look you got just now while you were thinking. Mature and confident...I had to try drawing it,” he explained. Snapping shut his book, he stuck his pencil back through the spiral binding and held out his now free hand. “Name’s Kit. What’s yours?”

“I see. Thank you then I suppose.” Richard said then fully turned to the young man, giving him a once over and giving a half smile at what his shirt said. “Richard. You do know you aren’t exactly stealthy if that was what you were going for?” He asked as he shook Kit’s hand with his own free hand. So far he wasn’t sure what to think of the young man, though he seemed friendly enough he had lost points for the grin from earlier.

“Does anything about me suggest I ever go for stealth?” Kit chuckled, gripping Richard’s hand a bit harder after he shook it. Then he attempted to put it to his lips to kiss it. “The pleasure’s mine, Richard. You like guitar strings, then? I’m assuming there’s a guitar to go with those strings.” He slipped his sketchbook back in his pocket with his other hand and took a step closer to his new acquaintance. “You a musician?”

Richard’s eyebrow went up at the move the kid just tried to pull. “Nope, you look like you just do what you will.” He said and neatly tugged his hand back before the other’s lips could connect, if he was amused or repulsed in anyway it didn’t show as he kept a pretty blank face other than his eyebrow. “Yes, I have one a home. I’ve had it for a few years now.” He didn’t move when the slightly taller man stepped closer. “How long have you been an artist?” And stalking people was not necessarily said but he briefly thought it in amusement.

Grinning again at the hand that was tugged out of his grasp, Kit let his own fall back to his side. “You’ve known to play it all those years?” he questioned, taking in the details of Richard’s face. He licked his lips, a hunger in his eyes. “Artist? Heh, I’m no artist,” the younger man laughed. “I just draw what I see. To be an artist, you have to have vision; imagination and creativity. Me? I just copy reality as best I can. Might as well take a picture.” He moved a hand up before thinking better of it and dropping it again. “How about I buy you those strings as thanks for being my drawing subject?”

“Yes, I learned how to play a guitar long before I had my current one.” He said without giving an exact timeframe away. Richard crossed his arms as one point as he responded. “Seeing how someone taking a picture counts in some circles as an artist I imagine you would as well.” The offer caught his interest and left him with a thoughtful look on his face. On one hand it would mean not spending money, on the other hand it would mean letting the kid buy them for him. “Thank you for the offer but I should decline.”’

“What a perspective. I’m flattered,” Kit answered, putting a hand to his chest. “Whether sketching or picture-taking, though - neither takes the skill that guitar-playing does. Or even just guitar maintenance.” He leaned toward Richard so their faces were only a couple of inches apart. “About the strings, though - what does that mean? ‘Should’? Do you always do what you ‘should’, sweetheart?” He sneered and lowered his voice. “Heh. Where’s the fun in that?”

“Depends on who you ask. It all falls back on practice after all.” Richard said and shrugged one shoulder. While it had taken him a while to learn to maintain his guitars and to play them, he had heard of people who took months or years to learn their crafts as well. When the young man leaned in he leans back on his heels slightly to keep space between them. “It means I shouldn’t be taking a kid up on his offer when I just met him.” He said in a deadpan tone with his eyebrow raised at the ‘sweetheart’. “I agree that is no fun in only doing what you ‘should’. Do I always follow it? No.”

The older man’s motion backward almost made Kit laugh aloud, but he managed to keep it in check behind his broad grin. At being referred to as a ‘kid’, however, the mirth in his features disappeared and his grin tightened as if it was pinned to his face. “And why is it that don’t you think you should in this case?”

Richard watched with interest as the younger man changed emotions, wondering what just set him off. “Again, just met you, as well as the fact that I really shouldn’t be taking your money.” He gave another shrug. Oh but he was tempted in taking up the offer, don’t get him wrong, he was cheap as hell but he was hesitant to just take the money offered from someone who was probably in college.
