The sun hung low on the horizon, painting the sky with vibrant hues of pinks and purples and yellows. The day would soon draw to a close and give way to the peacefulness of night. It would be then that Kagehoshi would begin his travels anew. While it generally had been easier to travel during the day, he preferred to journey at night when the rest of the world would sleep. Andromeda, his bonded cockatoo, used to question him about his unusual pattern. He had to explain multiple times that nighttime was easier for him because there was less of a chance meeting someone, especially if he were traveling across open ground. It wasn't that Kagehoshi disliked others. It's more that he favored the comfort of shadows.
"I still think it's silly." Andromeda huffed as they awaited nightfall. She had been ready to go hours before, but Hoshi had requested they wait.
"But if we must--" A light chuckle drifted on the air.
"Always so impatient, little one." Kagehoshi shook his head once before craning his neck towards the sky.
"Just another hour and we will be off. I swear it." He dropped his gaze to his friend. Feathers of black with bright green galaxy patterns adorning the wings and crest-markings similar to his own- greeted him. His green orbs locked onto hers.
"I thank you for your patience, dear one. I know I am not the easiest of travel companions.""Hmph," Romy clucked sharply.
"While it is true, I wouldn't have it any other way." Amusement laced her tone as she added,
"Someone has to look out for you. Might as well be me. After all, you tend to find excitement wherever you go, despite trying to avoid it." Little did she know how great of a prediction her statement would turn out to be.
