x E ᴇ ʀ ɪ ᴇxxx yellow eyes scanned the depths of the Lunaris Forest, the storm clouds overhead rumbling their displeasure. All was silent, knowing that the heavens would soon open to send life-giving rain down upon the world, as if in expectation. The Alpha wasn't here. Kestrel flicked an elongated ear, casting his eyes back down towards the foreground.

And did you expect anything different? The male shook his head, exhaling a soft sigh through his nostrils, tasting rain on his tongue as he breathed in. Perhaps the precipitation would lighten his mood. Kestrel had been spending every moment of his spare time out searching, the voice within his mind pushing him farther and faster with each passing day. I'm so tired... He'd run into a Pack of Viles, just two days ago though it seemed a week at least. He'd fought to defend himself, and had managed to take two of them down, though he didn't kill. He allowed himself to be run off and had once more turned his head southward, towards home.

His wounds had slowed him down, however. A long, rust-colored streak stained the thick fur on his chest, and he loped with a limp, his right foreleg having been trapped between strong jaws for a moment. If I could just rest. But no, he had to keep going, had to return to his Territory. He needed to start over, begin the search for the White Alpha anew, but after a good three days of sleep. Kestrel's stomach growled angrily, reminding him that it hadn't been satiated in days. He gave his head a shake, the bell hanging from his horn chiming happily. No use standing around waiting for the rain to fall. He needed to find shelter, somewhere to wait it out. Somewhere safe, preferably, where he could catch a few hours of sleep.

"No sense in putting it of--" He caught a flash of movement in the undergrowth, and stood up straight, ears and long tail erect. He couldn't handle another fight right now; he was far too weary. But he was one of the bigger Varsythe, and knew that his mere size alone would make most think twice about starting something. "Announce yourself; friend or foe?" His ear twitched, and yellow eyes flicked towards the sound of rustling leaves. Kestrel clenched his teeth and turned his head, bracing himself for a fight.

Rainclaw had been hunting on her own for the better part of the day. The female was packless, cold and plain sick and tired of being alone. She had caught the scent of something odd...something....another wolf!? She followed the scent closely, being a Scout the female was adapt at scents. One had to know if something was dangerous or not. Though, she wasn't a tracker the female was hesitant to go near the source of the scent. Sadly her ability to hide herself was sorely lacking as the grand wolf before her caught onto her quickly. Keeping herself low the female slowly stepped out into the open. Seeing that the male was hurt however had her somewhat relaxing to sit and watch him.

Her voice was gentle calm. "Friend. I would suspect." The mark on the male's eye betrayed him for who he was. The female heard of him and his pack. She inclined her head in respect to the Alpha. "My apologies. I didn't recognize you till I saw your marking. Your hurt. Did you wish for help?" She tilted her head, one ear flickering upwards while the other tilted down.

OOC: Psh, short my foot... >> I'll make her a pretty post format later xD

x T ʜ ᴇxxx wolf breathed out a sigh of relief as the female revealed herself, posture easy; her tail was down, as was her head, showing Kes that she didn't wish to challenge him. His golden eyes took in her coloring; fitting, then, that she should appear before a storm. He felt his lip curve in a small smile, despite his utter weariness as she sat down daintily.

"I'm glad to hear it." Kestrel watched her as she sized him up, saw the slight stiffening of muscles the moment she noticed the Mark of the Alpha beneath his left eye. He held back a sigh; anonymity was a wolf's best friend during these times, and sadly, that was out for Kes. But it meant that he was safe, among other Vurfang, at least. "No need to apologize, please." The male's tail dropped to a neutral position and he allowed himself to shift his weight back on his haunches, curling his fluffy tail around his back paw. "The Mark is sometimes more trouble than it's worth, to be quite frank." He offered her a wry smile.

"Help would be...most appreciated. I fear I cannot reach my own chest." The white male tilted his head, motioning the azure Varsythe forward. "I'm Kestrel." He was sure she knew, but politeness was something he thought much of; he shared the White Alpha's views, for the most part, and even though she was a lower Rank than he, one did not incite the displeasure of a female needlessly. He watched as she padded towards him, and thankfully the Darkness within his mind was silent; it had been slumbering for days now, as it always did whenever he searched for the White Alpha.

"The wound will be rather ugly; a Pack of Viles caught me unaware, while I was in a trance, of sorts." All Varsythe knew that when Shamans were looking inwards or to the future, they were entirely defenseless, and despite his heritage, Kes was no different. "They managed to get in a few licks before I came back to myself." His voice was rich, almost musical in its cadence. "Your aid would be welcome."

Rainclaw's ears bot shot up as the male indicated for her to draw near. She was small, so she was less intimidating than most Varsythe. Her emerald eyes roamed over the wound on his chest. She knew a few herbs she noticed nearby that could assist in a flawless recovery. For now however she would need to clean the wound of any dust or dried blood to see just how deep it was. She inclined her head slightly. "Rainclaw." she offered the male a small smile to her eyes.

Stepping up close the female explained what she was about to do. "I'm going to lick the wound clean. It might be painful, since I see dried blood around the edges. I know of some herbs nearby that could assist in a flawless recovery. Once I'm done cleaning the wound, I'll go fetch them. I'm sorry for any discomfort this gives you." A small part of the female was thrilled. She was doing a great service to a grand wolf. She took careful licks ears flattening at the taste of blood, she disliked knowing Vile's harmed the Alpha. Gentle scrapes of her fangs loosened the dried blood in his fur. She took her time to clean the blood out of the white coat as she worked. Once she was done the female made a wolfish face of uncertainty of the taste before she looked back at the bush she came from.

"Just a moment." she gave the Alpha a small nod before slipping back into the bush. Finding the herbs she was looking for the female returned a few minutes later. Letting them fall to the ground at her front paws. She picked up one leaf, wetting it with a few small chomps, then pressed it to the wound. She whimpered in sympathy and apology to the Alpha before making sure the rest of the leaves stuck as well. Pulling her head back she backed up a little to see her handiwork. "The leaves should stick for a few minutes. I've used them myself before. Once you feel a small cool tingle they've taken effect and you can remove them. It should only be a few moments."

THE WHITE MALE felt himself relax as the blue wolf drew closer; her small size was no threat to him, and his nose picked up no scent of aggression or anxiety. He watched as her gaze studied the gash across his chest, and Kes returned her gentle smile. He remained seated as he stepped closer, the scent of rain, root, sky, and clean wilderness wafting over him. That is a good smell, he thought. Every Varsythe had their own unique scent, and hers was one he didn't mind in the least.

An ear twitched as he listened to Rainclaw's explanation, knowing that the cleaning bit would be the worst of it. "Of course. It needs to be done for my health, but I cannot stand the sight of blood on my fur." It was a strange statement, but the female seemed to understand him. Despite being a good fighter, Kestrel didn't enjoy being blood-streaked like some Varsythe he knew. Yes, the thrill and adrenaline rush of the fight was something to live for -- or die for, he supposed -- but the after-effects...He repressed an involuntary shudder. He didn't relish in the taking of lives.

"I understand; please go ahead." As Rainclaw lowered her head, Kestrel let out a pent-up breath; tensing up would only make it hurt worse, after all. Her tongue parted his fur and ran along the laceration, and a searing line of fire was drawn across his breast. A soft whine pressed against his throat, and he opened his mouth to tell Rain to keep going, but he realized she didn't even hesitate. Smart girl. It was clear she knew that the wound had to be clean, and the sooner it was done, the quicker it would heal.

He chuckled at the look on Rain's feminine features at the taste; indeed, Kestrel's blood was unlike that of any of Varsythe, and it tasted different than the usual kind. "Kind of goes with the Mark," he offered for an explanation, and the female seemed to understand. She glanced back from where she had appeared and bade him wait a minute, and his yellow eyes took in the towering giants. Lunaris was a peaceful place; unblemished by death and waste, unlike the north. He felt a moment of pity for the Vileclaw, his cousins, but before he could begin to brood himself into a lather, Rainclaw returned.

Kestrel hissed in a breath between his fangs as the wolf packed the herbs into his wound with her tongue, and her answering whine of sympathy was appreciated. She repeated the process twice more before stepping back and scrutinizing his chest. "Thank you, Rainclaw; I can feel them already." Finally, he was able to relax, as pain no longer radiated from the cut. "You do fine work; have you no Pack to take advantage of your knowledge?" The alpha flicked a long ear. It was a rather personal question, but Kes had smelled no other Varsythe on Rainclaw's fur when she was tending to his wound.

At the mention of 'pack' Rainclaw's ears fell. The female seemed a tad upset. Shaking her head she spoke. "No pack...they..." she let out a long sigh. "We're taken from me. When I was a pup. Vile's came. All I can recall vividly was my Father tucking me away in the hollow of a tree. He told me not to even whimper." her head dropped just a bit. "When I came out...there was no one. As far as I know, the Vile's must of dragged off their bodies." She let her tail curl around her paws as she sat on her haunches. "Since then, I've been on my own. The knowledge I learned was from an old Gamma. They left their pack to die, but lived out the last few years teaching me everything I know now." She looked up at the Alpha.

YELLOW eyes saddened at the female's quiet words. How horrible...to lose family, friends, Pack in such a way... He couldn't even imagine having his Pack -- despite its small size -- ripped away from him, Riptide and Sephra killed without even the chance to say goodbye. Without a word, Kestrel took a long stride forward and pressed his chest to Rainclaw's, tucking his chin behind the wolf's neck in a gentle hug.

"I am truly sorry for the loss of your Pack, Rainclaw. No one deserves such a thing, let alone someone as kind as yourself." Kill them... He pulled back and frowned, flicking an ear in both worry and annoyance. The Darkness was calling him, to go find these Vileclaw and destroy them for not just what they had done to Rainclaw's family, but for merely existing. He gave his head a quick jerk, taking another step back. He fought to remember his train of thought, a wave of heat rushing over him as the being within his mind stretched and flexed long, wickedly sharp talons, wakening from its nap.

"I...perhaps you would be interested in joining Howlson-" Kestrel snarled and fell back onto his haunches, pawing at his muzzle, lips pulled back in a snarl as he felt the Darkness enshroud his mind. "For..give me, please." Did all Varsythe know of his...condition? He was sure he appeared positively insane to the female, but if he could only explain. "Curse of the Mark -- my mind is not..always my own." He fought against the urge to flee back north, to find and feel the throats of Viles between his surging, biting, ripping, tearing jaws.

Kestrel laid his ears flat against his head, focusing on his breaths and the concerned eyes of the female. "Howlsong could use a Scout of your talents." He hoped she didn't think him batshit crazy; no Varsythe in their right mind would join a mentally-unstable Alpha's Pack. And even though he was a Shaman, and wolves were used to trances, this was something entirely different.

The female had heard whispers of the male's...condition. Seeing it firsthand she was instantly jolting to her feet to hover over him. Sure she was frightened, startled even, but that didn't matter. She couldn't ignore someone who was in pain. Not after he just showed her comfort. She laid down next to him, large emerald eyes focused on him. "No no...its alright. I heard whispers of this. Are you sure you don't need me to do anything?"

She kept low to the ground in case this other side was domineering. She didn't want to appear as if she was challenging him. She was concerned but felt talking to him would help him focus on himself and not that other side. "Howlsong. Really?" she gently nosed his shoulder. "Yes. I would be honored to join your pack."

She kept close to the male in case he preferred warmth of others to help ground himself.

x K ᴇ s ᴛ ʀ ᴇ ʟxxx The Heir clenched his teeth, tucking his chin to his furred chest as the voices and whispers of the Ancestor swirled around within his mind, nudging him subtly to get up, to go seek blood of the Vileclaws and feel it slide down his throat.

Panting, the male cracked open an eye, offering a smile-turned-grimace to the female. "Thank you, Rainclaw, but this will pass s-soon enough." A sharp inhalation hitched his words as a lance of agony tore through his skull. He felt the female press her nose into his shoulder, then felt the warmth of her body pressed against his back. Ah, there. Hold tight to that.

Kestrel focused on the radiating body heat of Rainclaw's shoulder, and he gripped it mentally, grounding the Descendant to the present, to the here and now instead of the White Alpha's consciousness. He let out a slow breath as his muscles loosened, and Kes gently levered himself to his haunches.

"Thank you for your assistance, Rainclaw.' The male's solid yellow eyes seemed to have lose some of their radiance, appearing flat and dull rather than glowing eerily. "Howlsong would be lucky to have someone as kind as yourself among its Ranks." The Alpha pressed his nose to the female's shoulder, a conscious echo of Rainclaw's previous gesture. He knew she would have questions, and he would answer them as best he could. But for now...

"Welcome to Howlsong."

The slender female smiled at her Alpha. "Thank you. Did you still need to rest a little before we go...home...." she felt right saying that. After so long being on her own. The smaller wolf lowered her head to press her forehead into Kestrel's shoulder. The Alpha would feel water on his fur. "I'm sorry...its been a long time...feeling as if I had family again is a little overwhelming for me. Thank you, Kestrel."

She meant it as she looked back up at him. "Thank you for giving me a family again. Shall we go see the rest of the family?"
