hey hey. ow o

Most days, Ku was as competitive and cut-throat as her sisters, desperate to be the best in some bizarre and unspoken contest of proving their worth to their Alkidike elders. They raced, they pushed each other around, they held silly competitions to do silly things that often came very close to getting them hurt. All this was very good and quite entertaining (especially when Ku won those silly contests, or at least had grounds to claim that she should have won if no one had been cheating), but once in a while she found some excuse to sneak off on her lonesome and…

Well, do what most normal kids did, to be honest: poke things with sticks.

She had come down to the shore, which was deserted, and made her way to her favorite bit of jagged cliff. Here there were lots of makeshift stone stairs, levels to climb and even small caverns to sit in -- a perfect playground for a solo game of make-believe. She had heard some stories among the Alkidikes of something called a ‘mystic’, which was, she gathered, a witch of some sort, and had decided to play a little at being one. She found herself a stick (witches had sticks, didn’t they?) and a patch of sandy ground to draw symbols in (which she imagined would be magic).

From that, the little girl was quickly able to weave some adventurous story about evil earthlings who needed to be fought off with ‘magic spells’, and did a great deal of jumping around and hollering nonsense, hitting rocks with her stick and the like.

There was a good reason why she prefered to play some of these games alone.

finally getting around to tags O.o

Ixtil was a bit disappointed with her trophy from her Yealia kill... The stupid eyes didn't glow anymore! She wanted to use them as a night light! She grumbled and grabbed the jar with the eye balls floating in a mixture of water and something one of the older alkidikes had made to preserve her trophy.

Maybe if I fill it up with some of the toxic waters about here they'll go back to glowing, she thought as she headed out from her cavern home. On her way to the shore she heard voices; this was her base close to the Alkidike home village so it wasn't unheard of for people to come this way... but here there were caverns that the others just didn't venture into that often it seemed.. Ixtill loved them.

She walked towards the voice and couldn't help but laugh at the sight of the young elaria jumping around fighting invisible enemies.

Ku stopped abruptly at the sound of the laugh, turning to face the alkidike that had interrupted her game with a frown on her face. “HEY! What are you laughing at??”

Ku’s little make-believe game was perhaps a little unusual for the elaria, who usually preferred to race and compete for entertainment. But there was only so much of running and climbing and jumping to satisfy Ku’s appetite for grand adventure. She wanted to go further from the camp -- to see some of those earthlings and maybe scare them into a panic (she had heard that they were very easy to scare), but she would have to travel a long distance, and… well, they weren’t technically allowed. So she settled for imagining it all, although no doubt her imaginary expeditions were flavoured with a hefty bit of artistic license.

She was, however, still too young to be embarrassed all that much (perhaps that would come when she was as old as Ixtil), and was quickly distracted by other things -- namely, the jar in the alkidike’s hands.

“What’s that? What’s in there? I wanna see, show me!”

"Just laughing at the sight of someone attacking invisible enemies." Ixtil smirked and shook her head. "I find real enemies to be better targets... since the ones you imagine will always act as your mind commands.. no real challenge there." She eyed the Elaria: she'd met one before and Ceylinae had been okay...

She frowned when the girl demanded to see what Ixtil had in her hands. Ixtil did not like commands from older woman.. so demands from little brats didn't sit well with her at all! She hid it behind her back; a childish action to be sure!

"You're rather rude... normally you ought to introduce and then ask instead of demanding. Why should I let some bratty kid order me about?"

“Well, duh.” Ku shrugged her shoulders at the obvious-ness of real enemies being much better targets, tossing her stick aside. “But I’m not allowed to hit real enemies yet. Because I’m little, and so we’re not even supposed to go and look at any.”

She looked a little sullen at this, but consoled herself after a bit. “Anyway, when I grow up, I’ll go and hit lots of them. I’m just practicing now. Practicing is good.”

It wasn’t entirely the truth, because… well, she wasn’t practicing. She did practice sometimes, running up and down the beach, climbing rocks and things like that, all in the hopes of getting stronger, faster and more nimble… but today she had just been playing make-believe. Apparently make-believe was not entirely a normal thing for elaria (or Alkidike, for that matter) girls to do, so she decided not to delve too deeply in the distinctions.

She also decided not to delve too deeply into the issue of being called a ‘bratty kid’ (because, well, so what if she was), and screwed her face into a pout instead, rocking side to side to try and get a glimpse of the jar-looking thing. If the Alkidike was so stubborn about showing it, it must be interesting!

“Ok. Can I see it, pleaaaaaase? Please please please? What is it?”

sorry for being so lame and late with tags ^^; if you want to end this one since its been so long thats fine. Otherwise I cna keep going.

"You're not allowed to go find some wild life and try hunting it?" Ixtil asked as she tilted her head. "And why shouldn't you at least try? If all you do is follow rules you'll never get anywhere in life." She smirked. "Rules are meant to be broken!"

She agreed with the kid on the practicing part. "Practice is good. Though that looked more like play!" Not that play was a bad thing; it taught you stuff about others.. if you were playing with others and not by yourself.

She kept her jar of fluid and her two prized yealian eyes hidden behind her back. "Names first twerp! I'm Ixtil."

naw, np. i still need this req for Ku. ow o
i'll try to be quick with replies for this one 'cause i wanna grow her, so if you have time to spare to finish it up that'd be great. no worries otherwise tho. <3

“Wildlife?” Ku pursed her lips. “You mean like, animals? That’s not the same thing as real opponents. Animals are just animals. And anyway, sometimes I go hunting. I’m allowed to do that. But it’s boring to do that all the time. It’s just that I’m not allowed to go after any earthlings, or cool stuff like that. And it’s easy for you to say you can break the rules. You’re bigger, you can do what you want. If I break the rules, they’ll get all mad and I won’t get to go out and play for days.”

She didn’t fail to notice, of course, that the Alkidike didn’t have a particularly high opinion of playing. But this, Ku chalked up to the fact that she was older as well. Older people could do real things like hunting down earthlings and all that, so of course they didn’t need to play. But then again, sometimes Ku thought maybe the grown-ups didn’t get some of the things she liked, not one bit. She liked to play make-believe and to dream up interesting new things, but the others… well, they seemed content to sit here in this foggy village and grumble about things.

Still, maybe this one was different. She talked about breaking rules, and she had something behind her back Ku still wanted to see.

“Ok, fiiiine. I’m Ku. But what is it? Where’d you get it?”

I put this on my list as the one to tag. Sorry for being so slow, looking for a job and losing muses atm sad

"Wild life... animals, beasts, magical critters. Things that go bump in the night." She chuckled. "This place ain't as filled with dangerous things as Jauhur but its got some interesting things. Test your stealth and try to sneak up on those crystalline snake things. They're rather hard to sneak up on. Try tracking and capturing an imp. They're small and fast and it'll teach you how to keep prey in view as your racing about while still paying attention to your surroundings. And once you get old enough... there's these huge lumbering beasts by the mountain! I haven't fought em yet but they look difficult to take out." She smirked. "Animals have better senses than earthling some days. They're good practice and you can eat em too."

"As for rules..." She laughed; "They're meant to be challenged and broken. And if you don't wanna be punished, don't get caught. As you get older and keep trying and pushing at the rules you'll get stronger and sneakier."

Once the kid introduced herself Ixtil crouched down and pulled the jar out. "Eyes!" She crowed happily. "Got em off my first Yeali kill! I always take a trophy." She boasted and flicked her necklace where several of her crystalline trophies were strung.

ok thanks! good luck! <3
but who needs muses when you have eyeballs in a jar?

Ku pursed her lips as Ixtil handed down a laundry list of things she should do -- sneaking up on critters and hunting down imps, that sort of thing. It did all seem rather fun. The big beasts she mentioned were definitely a ways off from her skill level, but the rest of the stuff… yeah, she could do all that. She liked sneaking around through the jungle anyway, moving swiftly and silently like a shadow… or like an animal herself. Maybe she’d give it a go tonight. For the time-being, however, her attention was entirely on the Alkidike, who had finally decided to show her this thing she was holding.

When Ku saw the eyes floating in there, her own went wide.

“Eeeeeeeeew! Groooooooss!” She murmured -- but it wasn’t repulsion that shone in her eyes, it was star-struck fascination. Hers wasn’t a weak-stomached ‘eww’, but the impressed ‘eww’ of a kid who had just been shown something super-gross… and super-cool.

“How did you get them out?” She whispered, as if they were co-conspirators on this gruesome find. “Did you scoop them out with a knife? Or did you pop them out with your fingers?”

Ixtil cackled with glee; she loved that reaction! This one was okay; perhaps these new not alks were decent if one was willing to not flinch away from eyeballs.

"Carefully." She sighed. "They're actually from two different yealians since I ended up popping the other two trying to get them out. I reeeeally wanted to have glowing eyes to light my home with." She sighed as she mournfully looked at the dark orbs with their moon like iris and no glow. "But apparently dead things don't glow. Still pretty though."

She smirked and flicked her necklace with its crystals from earlier kills. "The crystals are easier to get out honestly. Though still messy."

“Ooooh.” If anything, Ku was even more impressed at the knowledge that the two eyes had belonged to two separate earthlings -- that meant, after all, that Ixtil had killed two of them, and that was certainly more exciting than just killing one. And although she too was a little disappointed by the eyes’ failure to glow (wouldn’t that have been cool!), she soon wanted to know more about the whole affair.

“Did you get them at the same time? The Yaelians, I mean. Did you fight them both at once? Did they try to fight back, or did they scream and try to run away? Do they even know how to fight?”

She was genuinely curious about this. Some of the other Alkidikes said that the Yaeli were cowards. But if they were complete cowards, would hunting after them really be all that fun? What was the point of all this practicing that Ixtil and the others went on about all the time, if all you ever did was run after terrified earthlings?

“I want to fight one too,” She nodded, eyeing Ixtil’s shiny black crystal necklace with a hint of jealousy. “And get trophies.”

Ixtil grinned and let her ego get stroked; while she new over confidence was bad she always did love being told she was awesome!

"I did. Mind you it was me and Ai hunting but there were three of them to our two." One had gotten away and that bugged her but oh well. "One screamed and ran after we killed his companions but the other two put up a fight." She looked down at the kid with a serious expression. "I know they call them cowards and think that earthlings are weak. Which they are compared to us! But don't forget a cornered coward can turn fear into strength if you toy with them too long. Speed put into running can also turn into speed with a weapon. They may not have our height or strength but their wily lil things that make a good hunt."

Ixtil reached out to gently tug on one of the curled antennae. "They start training. Once you can take on some of the animals about here you can start in on earthlings. You might be small but so are they... not too mention you'll have an easier time creeping up on your prey being so small!" She saw no reason to discourage the elaria towards violence. It worked for her so why not?

Ku listened attentively to Ixtil’s description of the fight against the earthlings, this being one of the first times that someone had spoken to her about actually meeting one of them. Most times the earthlings were just described dismissively as those ‘cowards’ that lived somewhere deeper in the jungle. But Ixtil had actually seen some, and fought them, and won -- this made Lu treasure her words like special wisdom that she might one day employ herself.

So she nodded, eager to show the older alkidike that she was listening and absorbing everything that was said. She imagined eathlings scurrying along away from her, screaming and shouting and clutching at their bloody eye sockets. She imagined herself towering over them… when in actual fact she was likely much shorter than them for the time-being. That would change, of course. She’d get as tall as Ixtil, and maybe even taller.

“Okay,” She nodded again. “I’ll practice. Tomorrow morning I’ll go and hunt some animals and maybe I will kill some. But I don’t… I don’t even have a weapon. You can’t kill things with a stick like this!”

Ku kicked at the stick she had been using in her game, wishing she had one of the shiny blades the alkidikes carried.

Iztil smiled in amusement at the eagerness of the elarian. "Depends on what you go after. Some animals lack thick hides or shells so a sharpened stick can work... Though I'd suggest looking for a crystal cluster and take one of the larger crystals to sharpen and tie to a stick. If you use a round flat rock and hit it right you can shatter them into sharp edged bits."

As part of her self imposed training when she had been younger Ixtil had learned to make due with what she found in the wilderness; you never knew when you'd loose your weapon after all!

"Has anyone shown you how to make traps?" She asked curiously. "Or how to hunt? My mother had started my lessons when I was your age."

Ku was about to tell the Alkidike that her stick wasn’t even sharp -- and how was she supposed to get it to be sharp, without another sharp thing to sharpen it with? But then Ixtil told her about using a crystal at the tip of her stick like a blade, and after a moment of consideration the youngling’s eyes lit up. She could see it already -- if she tied a crystal shard on tight, it would look almost like a spear. Maybe it would look even more awesome than a spear.

“That’s so cool! I’ve seen lots of pointy crystals. Especially in some of the caves where I play -- where I explore, I mean. I’ll go there and knock some off with a rock. I never thought about doing that!”

Maybe all these grown-ups were good for a couple of things beyond telling stories and telling you off when you didn’t listen.

“Naw, not really.” She shrugged, kicking at the sand. “I mean, my sisters and I’ve been playing around with stuff, figuring it out and all that. But, like… not all the grown-ups even seem to like us. I guess it’s like we gotta prove ourselves or something. Are traps hard to make?”
