Name: Havaar Odegaard Stage: Prentice Race: Pureblood ice Gender: Male 3 Base Traits: Logical, Curious, Arrogant Personality: Logical- Though far from emotionless, he tends to stay calm and view things from a more rational perspective. He sees the ability to reason as being the core of what separates men from beasts, and believes emotional decision making is the cause of most of the world's problems.
Curious- He is filled with an insatiable desire to understand the inner workings of the world around him, and is constantly frustrated by the shallow pool of information available to him. This is the driving force behind most of his actions, and he will take nearly any opportunity to advance his knowledge of the world.
Arrogant- The constant references to his intelligence by virtually everyone he encounters has completely gone to his head. He takes his own superiority, at least in the realm of intelligence, to be nearly a given in any encounter. He tends to look down on people he considers to be stupid, but especially those who he finds to be uninterested in learning.
Description: Thin and below average height. Golden eyes and skin a shade of pale blue just barely within the normal spectrum for his species.
Clothing: Artist's choice. Noble attire.
Accessories: A walking stick, due to his unusual physical frailty
History: Born the second son of a noble family in Zidel, Havaar seemed to be a healthy, if somewhat superfluous son. All predicted that he would serve a prominent, but secondary role in the family. His future was shattered when at the tender age of 3, he suffered through a terrible illness, and only barely survived. The disease permanently scarred his lungs, and significantly withered his body. He is beginning to recover his strength, but he continues to bring his walking stick wherever he goes in case of a long walk or moment of weakness. Because of his poor health, he has spent his life mostly indoors, and most of his interaction is with the tutors his parents hire to teach him.
While his parents never hesitated to show that they cared, Havaar found the interaction to be somewhat hurried, as if there were several things higher on their list of priorities. His brother was always sympathetic, but was also quite busy, preparing for his future as the head of the family. He soon came to recognize that even if he were the firstborn, he could never hold a prominent position in the family. He was damaged. A cripple. Nobody would ever accept him as their leader when he could be knocked over by a stiff breeze. His parents told him that he could become a natural philosopher, and perhaps study magic once he was able. Though he resented them somewhat for brushing him aside in such an obvious way, he had little choice but to comply.
As soon as he was well enough to speak and listen, Havaar began what his parents understood to be an extensive and extremely intense education. Havaar found it to be rather simplistic, and soon began to understand just how unusual his intelligence was. The few social gatherings he was allowed to attend badly wore on his patience, finding anyone significantly older than him to be condescending in their speech, and anyone near his age to be complete simpletons. While many of his teachers at first seemed impressive, that only lasted until he began to truly grasp the subject matter. More and more, the people around him ceased to be real, they became automatons, mere simulations of life, with no purpose or meaning.
This came to an end when he met Isior, the man who many called the greatest philosopher of their time. All of his teachers up til this point gave Havaar knowledge, but Isior gave him wisdom. Havaar was forced for the first time to use his mind to it's fullest extent. Isior showed him that even the most powerful mind cannot solve certain problems without a concrete system. Isior taught him logic, and the foundation of ethics. Under Isior's tutelage, Havaar began to form the core of his worldview. Those around him were indeed people, they were simply cursed to never see the world as he did. Though they did not understand, and some could never understand, it didn't make their lives less valuable. With this knowledge Havaar found new purpose, to push the bounds of knowledge, and to use his mind to improve the lives of others.

Bob the Unfortunate had to edit! I read him as oban not ice XD Love him so far! Because he was kept inside so long: is he innocent of the world outside or has his books prepared him at all? He has been cared for his entire life, not really knowing hunger or strife... how will he react to traveling the world and its struggles? Question: how does he view the wars that happened? The oban one where they lost to the Tendajians and were forced to release their matorian slaves? The more recent Alkidike extremist war like actions might have effected him since the alks came close to his land (and the oracles of his people came out breifly from thier hiding spot in the far far mountains) how did he view the actions of the extremist and the banishment.. as well as the discovery of the Yealians?

He is not entirely prepared for the outside world. Though he is aware of the harsher aspects of reality, he fails to grasp the scale of it all, and that's definitely going to have an impact on him when it finally clicks. Traveling the world will definitely be a large adjustment for him, but he is mentally, if not physically, prepared for the struggle ahead of him. At least when it comes to personal suffering. On general principle, Havaar is very much opposed to war, but even more so to slavery. He wishes that the Oban war could have been avoided through negotiations, but he understands that some people simply will not listen to reason. In Havaar's mind the extremist Alkidikes were truly insane, not only in their supremacist views, but in their foolish belief that they could take on an entire continent by themselves. He thinks the banishment was a reasonable solution, and hopes that they will learn from their past mistakes. The Yaelian's are an unknown quantity, and Havaar has made a conscious decision to not make any judgements about them until he has more information.

So, based on his opposition to slavery and the ideas of supremacy, how does he picture the Wind people? Does he see them as equals or does he see them as below him? In general, Ice people work with the Wind but do feel they are above them...does he share those views?

Havaar sees the Wind people as equals in principle. On an intellectual level, he realizes that they are no less capable or civilized than his own people, but years of indoctrination are very difficult to break. His rare interactions with the Wind people usually result in Havaar feeling guilty for his unconscious assumptions. This is a part of his personality which Havaar actively distances himself from.

He's arrogant; does this arrogance carry into physical features at all? How does he feel about being so frail? Is it something he struggles with or feels it gets in the way of him pursuing certain things as easily, like traveling outside of Zena?

Havaar has no illusions that he can compare, or will ever compare, to his peers in terms of physicality. He sees his weakness as a problem to be worked around, something which will slow him down, but also something which will have little effect on his plans for the future. When he was younger, he would curse his inability to frolic about like the other younglings, but he has long accepted his condition.
