Who: Eden, Ian, Vesna, & Lorenzo.
Where: Lorenzo and Vesna's home in Durem.
When: Mid-morning, around 11:00 am.
Weather: Semi-cloudy with a bit of a chill in the air, but no threat of rain.

-----

"So she's like me? A Raevan?" Eden's green eyes were wide and bright as she looked at Ian from the passenger seat. She was wearing a cropped sweatshirt, the sleeves a bit baggy over her painted nails. Ever since Caroline had come over and had a girls' day with her, she'd been fascinated with makeup and all sorts of other beauty products. 'Aunt Caroline,' as she liked to be called, had even bought her a 'starter pack' of a few things she'd need to start doing her makeup. After numerous videos watched on that website called 'Youtube,' she'd managed to learn the basics of mascara and lipstick.

Ian offered her a smile and turned onto a side street. "Yeah, she's a Raevan. She just arrived, so she's even newer than you are!" He was excited, especially given that he'd only just found out that she'd come home with Lorenzo. He'd initially called to offer him an interview of sorts with Eden, since Lorenzo was looking into the Lab for his client, but it turned out that he'd already gone through the process! Now, they were on their way for a playdate, of sorts. After the meeting with Cesc Ian was eager for Eden to meet yet another Raevan, especially a newborn!

After a few more minutes they pulled up in front of the building Lorenzo had given them the address of, and Ian sighed happily. Eden looked up at the building with one brow raised, curious but also a bit dubious. It was a relatively simple brick building, much taller than it was wide, with a big sign in the front window. "Ne... necro-man..cy? What's that?" Eden glanced at Ian again as she floated out of the car, twisting a piece of bubblegum hair around her finger. She'd put it all up in a big bun atop her head, a few pieces left to frame her face.

"Ah- yes. It's... It's kind of like what made you. But you don't get someone new, you get the same person, back alive again." Eden frowned slightly, a bit confused. But she didn't have time to ask more questions, because Ian was pushing the button to call upstairs. "Uh, hi- Lorenzo? It's- uh, it's Ian."

"Niemoj!" Lorenzo called, and the rusalka floated sulkily over to the staircase.

"Stop calling me that," she moaned.

"Have you picked a name yet?" Lorenzo asked.

"Not... exactly." she evaded, twirling a strand of hair around her finger.

"Well then!" Lorenzo said, "Niemoj, our guests are here."

He was not quite sure how all this had happened.

Ian had called, he remembered, and asked about whether he would want to meet with his raevan, and then after he had found out that the rusalka was here already, a playdate had somehow been arranged. Lorenzo wasn't sure whether the rusalka was ready for a playdate, especially since she didn't even have a name yet, but she had been so eager when she had overheard the phone conversation that it was difficult to turn it down, especially since she had seemed frustrated ever since she had arrived at Lorenzo's office.

He was somewhat frustrated as well. The rusalka was many things, but she was hardly what he had been expecting, and the ways that she took him by surprise made his life difficult. He thought that he was good around undead people, but the undead raevan girl was completely unpredictable and also totally unsympathetic to the problems of his clients, who all treated her as if she was a princess anyway. And now his florist was coming to make a social call, which was certainly something he had never expected to happen, and even then, he was only coming on behalf of his raevan. What did parents do while they brought their children over to play? Maybe he should have researched. He--

The rusalka had already rushed down the stairs and opened the door, her face flushed with excitement. "Hello Ian! It's nice to meet you! Where's my friend?" She craned her neck to see and gasped when she saw Eden. Turning back to Lorenzo, she pointed excitedly and said, "Look, she's so pretty!"

Lorenzo looked to the skies for strength and caught up with the rusalka at the door. "Good morning, Ian," he greeted cheerfully. Turning to Eden, he said, "I'm Lorenzo, and this is Nie--"

The rusalka elbowed Lorenzo before he could call her by his embarrassing nickname and she beamed. "I don't have a name yet, I'm sorry! I'm still choosing."

Whatever they'd been expecting, it certainly wasn't the newborn frei all but wrenching the door off its hinges to greet them. Both callers appeared surprised, two shades of green eyes stretched wide and brows raised. Ian was taken aback by the girl's greeting, but managed a slight chuckle and held out a hand to gesture to Eden. "It's--" He was interrupted by the frei talking again, this time to Lorenzo. Meanwhile, Eden beamed happily and floated a bit higher above the ground.

"Oh, thank you! You are too, I love all of your flowers," she said eagerly. She drifted a bit closer and looked up at the waterlilies in the other girl's hair with a bright grin. In a matter of moments the flowers in her own hair fluttered and transformed to match, a few small petals drifting away in the process. Where she was all warm shades and bright vibrancy, this frei was colder in hue and darker. But there was a brightness behind her palette as well, likely due to her infectious enthusiasm. She could tell already that she liked this Raevan. "Wait, you don't--"

"Ah, sorry- This is Eden," the florist murmured in response to Lorenzo. He managed to intercept Eden's rather probing question, figuring it wasn't the best to ask. It was intriguing, though, that Lorenzo hadn't given her a name. To his knowledge most of the other guardians named their Raevans, but... This was a good method as well, he supposed. He'd had his own reservations about naming Eden right off the bat, but had ultimately decided it was easier. "It's nice to meet you, too." He smiled at the frei and rubbed at the side of his neck. He gave Lorenzo a somewhat apologetic, sheepish look as Eden bobbed eagerly beside him.

The rusalka's eyes widened as Eden's flowers changed. She scrunched up her face, obviously trying to do the same thing. When nothing seemed to happen, she seemed a little disappointed, but she didn't let it bring her down for too long.

"Nice to meet you, Eden," Lorenzo intervened, and the rusalka copied him.

"Nice to meet you!" she gushed. "When I choose my name, I'll introduce myself again." Floating inside a bit, she gestured for them to come in, and Lorenzo let her lead.

"I've prepared breakfast if you haven't eaten," he offered to Ian as he gestured the pair through the office part of his house to the stairs that led to the residential floor. The slightly macabre-diy decor of the building was not left behind in the necromancy office, but even in the living area there were cheerily arranged jars of artfully preserved limbs and necromancy supplies and protective runes. The obvious lengths which Lorenzo had gone to in order to make the necromantic tools seem normal and fun only served to make them seem even more out of place, but Lorenzo and the rusalka didn't seem to notice.

"Do you like waffles?" Lorenzo nodded towards Eden. "What does Eden eat? I can see if I can get her something, too. The rusalka eats reflections, so that's not really a problem, just..."

"If you don't see your reflection in the mirrors, that's my bad," the rusalka intervened slightly sheepishly.

Eden was still a bit confused by the whole 'choosing my name' thing, and gave Ian a quizzical look. Why hadn't he let her do that? Not that she minded her name, and she doubted she'd be able to come up with a good one very quickly, but still! The other frei got to choose...

The pair followed Lorenzo and his charge inside, Ian's uncomfortable curiosity barely veiled on his face. He knew Lorenzo was a necromancer, but his occupation seemed to really leak over into his personal decorating style. The only thing that really unnerved him was the collection of strangely preserved limbs and other items in various jars, placed as if they were houseplants all around the space.

"I like your house! These things are cool," Eden chimed, picking up a jar and inspecting the hand preserved inside the liquid. Ian balked but didn't speak up for her to put it down, not wanting to seem rude to Lorenzo.

"Ah, that's nice of you, thank you. I love waffles." At the mention of Eden's food source, he cleared his throat and rubbed at his neck again. "Oh, um... Eden feeds off of energy, so uh- she should be okay. If you start feeling poorly just- uh, tell her to stop." She hadn't exactly learned to ask permission when she fed; many nights since she'd come home had ended in raging migraines and heavy limbs.

"I'd never feed off of her! She's too nice and pretty," Eden stated matter-of-factly. Something in her tone suggested that feeding off of Ian or Lorenzo was fine by association, but she turned away too quickly for Ian to check her expression. Turning to the rusalka, she smiled again and drifted closer. "But wait... So you don't show up in mirrors? Then...how do you do your makeup and hair?" She seemed horrified by the thought of not having a reflection; how could the girl check that she looked okay? Eden couldn't imagine not being able to do her hair or makeup or look at her clothes in a mirror, not after getting so attached to those things.

"You can take one home if you want!" the rusalka offered, and Lorenzo startled ahead of her.

"I'm afraid that those aren't for decoration," he intervened before Ian wound up going home with somebody else's hand in a jar. "Although I try to make them look more cheerful."

"Everything around here is all for his clients," the rusalka murmured audibly to Eden.

"And you're one of those clients," Lorenzo reminded gently. He pulled extra chairs around the kitchen table. The kitchen itself was small and cozy, more of a nook, with a window that looked out onto the street below. There were flowers on the table (alive) and there was a cat sleeping under the table (undead). Lorenzo nudged the cat with his foot, and it got up, greeting Ian and Eden with a sleepy meow.

"That's Buddy," the rusalka explained. "Lorenzo's cat."

"He doesn't actually need to sleep, but some undead tend to keep to the habits that they had in life, especially animals." Lorenzo elaborated.

"He's just like a real cat, except he isn't warm and his bits fall off," the rusalka explained again.

"He is a real cat," Lorenzo insisted.

"Some say he's a real cat," the rusalka amended.

She listened to Eden's concerns carefully as she mocked sitting down in a chair. "My hair is easy!" she said. "I can see it if I look down." And indeed, the hairstyle she was sporting did seem to be the kind of hairstyle she had just done herself because it was easy. "What's makeup, though?"

Ian couldn't fight a slightly strange expression when Lorenzo described the rusalka as one of his clients. She had been in her past life, he supposed, but... Did he still think of her only as a client even now? Glancing at Eden, he realized that he couldn't possibly think of her that way. Every relationship was different he supposed, but 'client' was a new one.

"He's cute!" Eden had dipped down toward the floor to pet Buddy, running her hand carefully along his tail. He definitely wasn't warm like Ursula, but she wasn't especially warm either (though she had the excuse of being mostly octopus). "We have a cat too, but she's all squishy and slippery sometimes. She has eight legs!" He laughed brightly, straightening up again and bobbing slightly as she reached her usual height.

While Ian busied himself with petting the rather slow, cold cat as Eden and the rusalka chatted. It was nice to see her opening up again so easily like she had with Cesc; she was clearly a very social butterfly. A bit sharp at times, but mostly warm.

"Makeup is, uh... it's stuff you put on your face to make it colorful!" She closed her eyes, showing off a bit of a gold shimmer on her eyelids. "See? But people do a lot more with it than I can yet. See, this is my favorite so far." She reached into her small purse and pulled out her cell phone, opening up an application and showing the rusalka a few pictures of people's eyes painted various shimmering colors. "Isn't it pretty?"
PostPosted: Fri Feb 26, 2016 12:16 am

"Eight legs!" said the rusalka. "Are you sure that's the right amount of legs?"

She looked at Eden's eyes and gasped, saying, "Oh, I thought that was your skin! You mean you can do that??" She seemed especially impressed by Eden's cell phone, as she had only really figured out how to lock and unlock hers and call the numbers saved on it. "I like your phone," she added. "I have a phone, too! I can give you my phone number if you want," Although, she supposed, Lorenzo would have to add Eden's number for her. The thought made her embarrassed, especially since Eden seemed so good with her phone, and the rusalka tried to pay attention to what Eden did with it so she could try later.

After a few pictures, she said, "Makeup is so pretty! Can you teach me?" Maybe with makeup, she could look less dead. Ever since she had found out what 'rusalka' meant, the way her skin looked upset her, but if Eden could change how her skin looked, then maybe no one would need to know.

She paused, remembering an important problem, and reluctantly added, "Do I need a mirror?"

Lorenzo brought some waffles to the table while the raevans chatted, along with a bowl of strawberries, a bowl of blueberries, some whipped cream, and maple syrup. He went back into the kitchen and came back with a pitcher or orange juice and some glasses. "Do you want to decorate my waffle?" he asked the rusalka, and she nodded eagerly, reaching over for his plate. Turning to Ian, he said, "If there's anything else you'd like, let me know, and I can see if we have it."

Eden brightened even more if possible and grinned. "Sure! I have a few things with me since Ian told me we were visiting. I brought them just in case." She giggled, feeling proud of herself for thinking ahead. Truthfully she'd probably get in the habit of carrying around a few beauty supplies just in case she needed to touch up her look -- or give an impromptu makeover! "Uh... You usually do yeah, but you can learn without one! Just gotta remember where your eyes are and stuff." She laughed, tapping the corner of her eye.

"And we should definitely exchange numbers! All I have right now are Ian's and his family," she added quietly. She knew it was a good idea, but it was a bit depressing to have no one to talk to. Especially when the internet world she could see on her phone was so alive and bustling; she felt bored a lot of the time.

Meanwhile Ian balked at the spread that Lorenzo had prepared. "Oh wow, you didn't have to go to all this trouble... It looks great, though." Eden glanced over when Lorenzo offered the rusalka his plate, and his eyes stretched wide as she began to decorate the food.

"It smells so good! Can I do yours?" She smiled eagerly at Ian. The florist offered her the plate easily with a small chuckle. It was sometimes easy to forget that she was still so new to the world because of her appearance. "Can I have these?" She looked at the berries curiously, turning to Ian. There was no hint of asking for permission in her tone, only curiosity. She wanted to try them and she would, if Ian said they would be okay. He'd explained to her a few times before about human food, but these were all by themselves -- no pastry, no sugar, nothing else.

"Hm? Oh um.. Well, they're natural so probably. Just a few, though -- we don't want you getting sick." Eden grinned eagerly and bit into one of the bright red berries, her wings fluttering at the sweet taste. She hurriedly began drawing a face on the waffle with the whipped cream when the rusalka wasn't using it, sort of following her lead for the most part. She'd never decorated food before, only her room.

"Okay!" said the rusalka. "I've never seen my eyes, but I know what they're supposed to look like and where they are and all that." Thinking about it too hard was a little weird, but she was excited to see more makeup, and she tried to focus on that.

"Oh, great! I don't have anybody in my phone who I asked to put in myself either," she admitted. "Just Lorenzo and his parents, and the Lab, of course. I'll get my phone after I'm done with this waffle." She reached for the squeezey tube of maple syrup and drizzled it over the waffle, spending a moment in intense concentration. She strategically placed strawberries and blueberries on the pattern, and her eyes widened when she saw Eden eat one.

"We can eat those?" she asked, picking up a blueberry and turning to Lorenzo. "Can I eat these?"

Lorenzo hesitated. "Let's not," he decided, "Not until we know more about your physical limitations. Remember, your soul is undead, so--"

"--So we don't know how much my body takes after my soul," the rusalka finished, putting the blueberry back a little regretfully. "Well, if I can't eat them, you're going to have to eat them for me," she decided, heaping more berries onto the plate.

Lorenzo watched the syrupy, creamy pile on top of his waffle grow with trepidation. The topping-to-waffle ratio was getting to be severely out of whack. "Now remember, I'm going to have to eat everything on the waffle," he reminded.

"That's why I'm making sure it's extra cute!" announced the rusalka, putting the finishing touches on her creation. "Look, it's a living cat!" She had squirted enough whipped cream to actually sort of sculpt a cat head, with strawberry ears and a blueberry nose.

"Wonderful," Lorenzo said encouragingly, and tentatively tried to find a way to go about eating it. He took a bite and the excessive whipped cream immediately oozed gloppily onto his black trousers.

"Great!" the rusalka exclaimed. "Then I'm going to get my phone." She dashed off, and came back moments later with a light blue phone with some small charms dangling off it.

"Um," she said, turning to Eden, "I got you a charm, too, since Lorenzo said that he was inviting a friend over. I hope you like it! I didn't know anything about you, but he said a flower one would be good. I have one, too!"

Eden piled Ian's waffle high with decorations as well, though not to the extent that the rusalka did with Lorenzo's. She laughed as the whipped cream collapsed, pushing the plate toward her guardian with a triumphant grin. She was briefly reminded of the intricate decorations on the pastries at Cesc's bakery; surely her artwork belonged there!

Ian on the other hand showed a bit of hesitation as the mound of fruit and sugar was deposited in front of him. But he morphed the slight grimace into a slight smile in hopes of not discouraging Eden; he didn't want to hurt her feelings after all, and certainly not when she looked so proud of herself. "It looks great, thank you." He tried to gingerly cut into the waffle, but the berries scattered around the edge and the whipped cream was starting to melt a bit. He managed to get a forkful to his mouth, but dripped a bit of the whipped cream back into the plate.

Waffle successfully delivered, Eden turned to watch the rusalka zip away toward what she assumed to be her bedroom. She was back within moments, and the nymph gasped softly at the sweet little gift. "It's so cute! Thank you!" She held it up so she could see it from all angles. Almost automatically the flowers in her hair fluttered again, petals changing shape and color to resemble the charm. She quickly stuck the little loop onto the back of her phone, holding the phone up proudly. "Tada!"

With a short glance to Ian and Lorenzo, who were chatting about something she hadn't been paying attention to, she sighed quickly. "So... can I see your room?" She turned away from the table and pulled her hair over her shoulder, offering the rusalka a warm smile.

"Yeah!" the rusalka assented enthusiastically, leading Eden back to the small room she had come from. Inside, the room seemed even smaller, filled as it was with imposing and stately Russian decorations. As she led Eden in, the rusalka seemed slightly embarrassed by this, but she still spread her arms out and said, "This is it! Lorenzo decorated it for me."

Apart from the tapestries and heavy wooden furniture, there was a large bookcase, mostly filled with books on necromancy, Russian fairytales, and various how-to guides. In the corner, there was a tall mirror, which reflected the room back at them, but not the people in it. To the side wall, there was a slightly wilted bouquet of flowers in a vase on the desk, and a bunch of highlighters and drawings.

There was more paper scattered all over the desk, covered in names. The rusalka realized how messy it looked, and floated over to sort them hastily into a pile. She looked back at Eden and explained, "It's been kind of hard for me to choose a name. Lorenzo wrote down all these options, and they all mean something different, and everything, and he says names are really important, but I'm not sure which one really fits me, you know? I can't see myself..." she trailed off, looking down at her undead skin, and grimaced.

"...Much."

She hesitated, and asked, "How did Ian decorate your room? Does it look," she furrowed her brow, trying to remember what Lorenzo had said Eden's soul was, "Greek? I think that must be cool, I read a little about it before you came here because Lorenzo said I should research things I'm interested in! And I'm super interested in my friends, so, um, yeah. My soul is a nymph, too, you know? Sort of, anyway, so it was cool to read about a different kind of nymph. It sounds like your soul must have been really pretty," she concluded a little wistfully. "And you're really pretty, too, so that makes a lot of sense!"

Eden followed the Rusalka closely, eager to get away from the dull conversation that was likely to ensue between Lorenzo and Ian. What could they possibly have to talk about, anyway?

She didn't know what she'd been expecting from the other raevan's room, exactly, but it wasn't this. Ian had told her about the girl's soul, the rusalka, and she had looked it up very briefly, but hadn't assumed anything about her otherwise. After all, Ian had left her room fairly blank aside from the basics, as he'd wanted to let her pick things for herself. She was still in the process of putting the room together, but she had plenty of ideas from the internet, much to Ian's dismay.

"It's nice! It seems very... cozy in here." Floating around the perimeter, Eden took note of all the books and tapestries, but didn't see anything that really hinted at the rusalka's interests. There was a lot that made sense with her soul, and given that Lorenzo had decorated the space that was probably the reason. "I like your pictures! You're a good artist," she mused, picking up one of the doodles to look more closely at it. From what she could tell, it was Lorenzo but much sillier in demeanor. There was a slight quirk in her lips as she realized perhaps the rusalka was poking fun at him.

She snorted softly and brushed her hair over her shoulder so it fell between her wings. "No, it doesn't look very Greek. Not as much as yours looks Russian, anyway. He put the basics in like a bed and stuff, but he's letting me pick decorations. I found these really cute flower lights, they're so pretty!" The nymph beamed at the rusalka, laughing softly. "That's cool that your soul is like mine, though! We're kind of like sisters, then."

She glanced over the extensive list of names, meanings, and origins - there really were quite a few. "I didn't get to pick my name, but I like it. Ian just- kind of gave it to me?" She shrugged and turned to the pot of flowers on the desk, smiling brighter. "But you need a pretty name! You're really pretty too, and I'm sure whatever you pick will be good." As she gazed down at them and touched one of the petals, the flowers in the vase brightened, their petals perking back up and the stems straightening. They looked like they'd just been picked moments ago, even though they'd been wilted and dull just moments before. "Do you have any favorites yet?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 16, 2016 8:47 am

"I can draw you, too, if you want!" the rusalka enthused. "Right now I only have highlighters, but Lorenzo says he's going to get me more colors soon."

She paused and considered that Eden got to decorate her own room. It sounded fun, a lot more fun than choosing her own name had turned out to be. "They make flower lights??" she asked. "That sounds so pretty!" She looked around her own room uncertainly. Cute was not the term she would use to describe it, but she hadn't seen any other bedrooms, so what Eden was describing was difficult to picture. "Do you feel like you might be..." she scrunched up her face as she tried to remember the phrase Lorenzo had used when he had explained her room to her, "Missing out on a valuable connection to your cultural heritage, though?"

"Yeah! We're both raevans and we're both nymphs," she assented eagerly as Eden said they were like sisters. "I'm really glad Lorenzo invited you over, I've mostly just met undead people."

She smiled as the flowers came back to life. "Lorenzo gave those to me too," she said. "He says he can't bring plants back to life, though." She had asked what else he couldn't bring back to life, and he had cryptically evaded the question. She supposed it was a sore spot for necromancers. She didn't like to admit there were things she couldn't do either, but lately she was having to do that all the time.

"Pretty?" She glanced down at herself again and back up at Eden. "Do you think so...?" Unlike Lorenzo, Eden was obviously pretty, so the rusalka figured she was the expert. "I, uh, actually, that's-- That's why I wanted to meet you! not because you're pretty, but um, because I wanted to meet other raevans." She glanced around and found her laptop under the list of names on the desk, floating over to it to open it. "Dina-- she's my Russian tutor, and I talk to her on this thing, she said that since I was having trouble picturing what I wanted to be like, I should meet some more raevans, but I can't go outside a lot yet because Lorenzo isn't sure how well my body will handle it." She looked aside and said, "He says that my soul could have affected my body more than I thought and rusalki are und--"

She couldn't bring herself to say it.

"--Very fragile. But he invited you over, and he says he might invite some other raevans over soon! And I think it's helping a lot, because you're really cool, and I think being like you would be cool. Not copying you!! But, um, being pretty and confident and everything could be nice."

She looked at the list. "So, uh... Maybe a flowery name or something..." She scanned it to try to find a couple, but there were so many names, and she set it aside. "I'll look later!"

The nymph shrugged her shoulder again in response to the rusalka's question about her heritage, but didn't have much time to respond otherwise.

"Sure! Your hair is such a nice color, and you have really big, pretty eyes." The way the other Raevan was talking, it seemed like she wanted her opinion on many things, or at least her input. Eden was only too happy to give it. She brushed her hair over her shoulder and followed the girl around the room, looking at her laptop when she mentioned it. She talked quite a bit comparatively, after really only meeting Ian and Caroline, who were much quieter. But it wasn't a bad thing; no, it was nice to be around someone with energy and life in them. Eden's smile grew a little bit.

"Well once you find a name you like, I'm sure you will be! especially if it's a cool one." She ran her fingers along the hem of one of the quilts on the bed, both put off and intrigued by all the colors and patterns. "And when he does lighten up and let you out of here, we should go shopping. New clothes can do wonders for your confidence!" She beamed at the idea of a shopping trip with her new friend, helping her pick things out and maybe getting makeovers. She'd have to pester Ian about it later.

"And since you have my number now, you can send me ones if you want my opinion! But I do agree with Lorenzo, I think you should pick if you have the option." Her brows twitched upward and her wings fluttered as she remembered a story she'd read. "Oh! I remember reading about this Greek goddess a little while ago, Persephone. She's the goddess of spring, but also uh... Queen of the underworld I think? She's so cool! Maybe something like that?"
