          Who: Eden, Ian, and Zeke
          When: February 2nd, 2015; 7pm
          Where: Lab 305
Weather: Chilly and seasonal but not unfavorable

'A month from now' had been a possibility when Zeke had first - and last - met Ian Flynn. In truth it was actually a little under five, which fit with the vet's general expectations. But general or not, he was as he always was in these situations: excited as all hell. The call came shortly after dinner and Zeke was in the car in no less than twenty minutes after hanging up with Dr. Kyou. He had to shower and change from his lazy day pjs into proper clothes but as soon as his car was out of the driveway he was dialing Ian's cell.

"Hi, is this Ian? ...Hey! It's Zeke! ...I'm great but believe me, you're even better than I am right now!" It was about that point that his excitement lurched into a growing spree and his words per minute picked up, sending the fantastic news of the Nymph Raevan's birth into a half-babbled tizzy of titters and congratulations. "I'm on my way to the Lab RIGHT NOW so if I'm not there when you show up, wait inside the lobby for me, okay? Okay! See you soon!"

As luck would have it, Zeke was the first to show up. He pulled both the lobby doors open to let himself in and took long, fast strides to his desk, where Ian's folder had been laid out in advance for him. A Post-It was stuck to its face, declaring the Cherry Blossom girl to be in room 2. Seeing it only fueled the vet more; seems like only yesterday he had revealed the Frei's gender to her Guardian and now here she was, ready and waiting to go home with him!

It had been a rather long day, the first of the major rush for Valentine's Day prep. It was arguably one of if not the busiest times of the year for florists, and Ian's back ached with a sobering pain that told him it wasn't going to let up much until after the 14th. He'd already taken a few aspirin and was simply lounging on the couch to relax, but the anxiety of the preparations was still nagging at his mind. But it wasn't the only thing twisting his stomach.

Ever since Caroline had moved out officially, the apartment had been strangely quiet and empty. Ursula was here, of course, but the absence of the long-awaited Raevan was even more noticeable with Caroline gone. Her room was all emptied and redecorated, with a bit of help from her after learning from Zeke that his Raevan would, in fact, be a girl. He'd tried to do his best to make it homey without being decorated too specifically, some nice cozy bedding and a few flower lights, a nice coat of slightly off-white paint and a new dresser and mirror... Anything more specific would need to be picked out once she came home.

The startling ring of his phone made him flinch and Ian let out a sigh, placing a hand over his chest. He picked up the device and had to pause a moment once he saw the caller ID: Zeke Farris. Why... why would he be calling him? His heart lodged itself firmly in his throat and his stomach flipped as he answered the call.

"H-hello?" The jumbled mess of words he was greeted with took him by surprise, and he had little choice but to listen and stammer in response. "What? I... O-okay!" Oh god. Oh god oh god oh s**t-- It was time.

Ian sprang off the couch and nearly stumbled into the coffee table, earning a disgruntled trill from Ursula, who was currently wedged between the cushions. He barely took enough time to grab a hoodie and his keys before he was sprinting out the door, sending a panicked and typo-laden text to Caroline.

-She's here!!-

It was a bit of a drive from his home in Barton to the lab in Gambino, especially because even though he was excited he couldn't make himself speed too much. But eventually he made it, almost screeching to a halt in the parking lot and jumping out of his car. He all but ran into the door as he pushed it open, breathing heavily and stumbling over to the desk where Zeke was.

"I-I'm here. I'm here. Is she-" He couldn't make himself finish the question. His hands were trembling as he held the edge of the desk to steady himself; he felt as if he might faint.

It wasn't too long after Zeke arrived that the door was opening again and Ian was coming through. The vet looked up from the paperwork the new Guardian would have to sign to release his Frei from the Lab, smile spreading across his face as the overworked man half-stumbled and half-ran in.

"Right on time!" There was an excited lilt to his voice, one edged with the kind of trembling only a new arrival could instill. He was quick to get out from behind his desk and extend his hand to Ian. "She's here, and she's more than ready to meet you! If you're ready we can go to her right now!"

The twinkle in his eye seemed to say that he too was more than ready to go and as if to make the reality all that more real for the other man, he gestured to the glass door at the back of the room that would lead right to the Nymph. But then again, while he was excited, this was Ian's day. He could set the pace, especially looking as winded as he was.

"Of course, if you need a second to catch your breath, that's doable too!"
PostPosted: Tue Feb 09, 2016 2:17 pm

Ian's hand trembled as he reached out to shake Zeke's hand and he heaved a deep breath. She was here. Actually here, in the flesh, whole and complete and ready and here. His mind was reeling with what she could look like, what she might be like... Oh god. What if she didn't like him right off the bat? He was quiet for a moment as he dissolved into anxious catastrophizing, but was able to snap himself out of it when Zeke spoke again.

"Yeah. Y-yeah, let's- uh, no, I'm okay. Just- nervous, that's all." He laughed, his smile not quite convincing due to the rate at which his heart was pounding. He nervously wiped his hands on his jeans and took another deep breath. He held it a little longer than he'd planned to as he stared at the mysterious door behind which his Raevan waited, almost coughing as he let the air out again.

"I'm ready. Let's... let's go," he murmured. He forced himself to be calm, relaxing his shoulders and his fists that had been clenched tightly at his sides. He felt very much how he imagined an expectant parent would while waiting outside the delivery room. He pushed back his hood as he gave Zeke a slightly more convincing eager smile, waiting for him to lead the way.

"You sure? I can get you a bottle of water if you need it." As he spoke the vet cocked his head slightly at the man panting before him. Ian looked like he had run all the way to the Lab, even though Zeke had heard the squeal of brakes just before Ian came bursting in. All the same, he smiled when the nervous Guardian laughed and when Ian gave the go ahead, Zeke nodded.

"Alright, you're the boss!" He chuckled and took up the waiting file before gesturing for Ian to follow. The door at the back of the lobby was a pane of clear glass with a handle on it and it opened easily when Zeke pulled on it. He let Ian go through first but was quick to take up the spot next to him as they made their way down the well lit and so-clean-it-had-to-be-sterile hall.

"So are you ready?" He grinned at the other man, brown eyes crinkling at the corners. "Kind of funny how it worked out; I reveal her gender and suddenly she's here! It's like I spoiled the surprise for her or something, hah!" A funny thought to be sure, but deep down he hoped the Cherry Blossom Frei wasn't actually cross with him. Kyou had told him time and again that Raevans couldn't hear the goings on outside their tanks but that hadn't stopped Zeke from talking to each developing Raevan, including Ian's Nymph.

"Now she's just in this room up ahead here, but before I let you in there, let me instead let you in on a little tradition we have here." He was still all smiles and with their destination within reach he was back to being all nerves and thinly restrained excitement again. "And that tradition is this: you are going to be the first person she sees." He stopped at the door and turned to face Ian man to man. "I'm going to knock to let her know we're here and then open the door. Once I do that, you head right on in and say hello. I'm going to wait out here for a few minutes so you two can get acquainted without any distractions." With his free hand he gestured to his face, hair, and attire - all bright colors and shiny metals. "Sound good?"

If needed Ian could call for him, but of course he would be listening from the ajar door all the same.

"Okay so...On the count of three! One...two...three!"

He brought his left hand to the door, knocked twice, and let the door swing inward.

"After you, Ian!"

Ian wasn't exactly able to pay complete attention to what Zeke was saying as they made their way through the double doors and down a very white, very hospital-like hallway. He vaguely heard that he would be going in first, alone, and that Zeke would follow a few minutes after. He nodded to show that he had acknowledged the ritual and took another breath, his eyes sort of focused beyond what was truly in front of him: the door.

The door, oh god, the door. It felt like a mountain, a terrible, intimidating obstacle between him and the object of his heart's dream. He'd spent a long time imagining what his Raevan might look like, despite trying not to, and those daydreams had only increased after finding out that it would be a girl. Would she look similar to Antheia, the nymph that had given her soul to create new life? Remembering the events of that afternoon, Ian felt his throat tightening.

Before he knew it, Zeke had counted down and opened the door and he was walking inside the lab room.

----

White, white, white. Silver, bright reflective metal and lots of clear glass. The room she'd been deposited in had been interesting at first, for perhaps five minutes or so, but had soon grown terribly boring and dull. Why was she in here? Who had put her here? There were no windows, only two doors: one through which she'd been brought in, half awake, and the other had remained closed since she'd truly come to her senses. She wanted to leave.

Running her fingers through long pink hair, the nymph Raevan had managed to find a moderately reflective surface. What did she look like? Very bright and pink, from what she could see, but that was about all that was clearly discernible. She let out an impatient huff and folded her arms over her chest, brows drawn together. Was anyone going to come and get her? Why was she even here?

Soon enough the second door opened, a bright voice announcing the arrival of someone (likely not the speaker). Grass-green eyes snapped to the approaching figure, mothlike wings fluttering behind her as she floated forward a foot or two.

Ian, meanwhile, was practically frozen to the spot a foot or so inside the room. She was beautiful, more beautiful than he could ever have imagined, and certainly much more pink. But that was about all he had time to realize before his eyes began to cloud over. The tightness in his throat had developed into a fully-formed lump, tears welling in his eyes. He took a deep breath and sniffed, straightening his shoulders somewhat. No, he couldn't start crying right after seeing her! What would she think?

"Who are you? Why am I here?" Her voice was quick and demanding, a soft sound with a bit of rasp to it, but distinctly young. Come to think of it, she looked somewhat younger than other freis he'd met previously (but certainly older than Aina). Ian faltered for a moment before finding his words and clearing his throat.

"I- I'm Ian, Ian Flynn. I'm your da- guardian. You guardian," he corrected. He knew better than to impose a certain relationship on her from the get-go. After all, not every Raevan thought of their guardian as a parent. The whole "looking-way-older-than-a-newborn" thing really complicated the whole situation.

The nymph's bright eyes narrowed, wings fluttering as she drifted just a bit closer. She cast a glance over Ian's shoulder toward the door where Zeke waited. After a moment her gaze returned to the florist, a bit softer now and less suspicious. He didn't seem like a threat or anything; he was about as non-threatening as he could get, she supposed. "What's my name?"

Ah, the dreaded question. Ian had been brainstorming for months, with Caroline's help, but had still had yet to narrow it down. Knowing the Raevan was a girl had helped, but not by much. Caroline tended to get carried away, and something about assigning a name felt...strange. But people did it with babies all the time.

"I- Eden, if... if that's okay with you. Eden... Antheia. That's your middle name." He couldn't help himself. He felt he should pay homage to Antheia in some way, and using her name seemed the most respectful. She'd given literally everything in order for this to happen, for Eden to be here at all, so... It only seemed fitting. "Do you like it?"

"Eden..." she murmured the name, testing it on her tongue. After a moment she shrugged one delicate, flower-dusted shoulder. "It's nice, I like it. Thank you..." Though her eyes were softer, she still didn't entirely know what to think of this strange human man. She watched him carefully before glancing back toward the door yet again.

"Who is that? Is that who put me in here?"

He had to make a ball out of his left fist and shove it hard against his mouth to keep from laughing.

He heard every word. Every demand she made and every stammered reply he gave, Zeke did not miss a single syllable. His shoulders shook with the effort he was making to keep everything inside which caused his lungs to ache and his face to take on some splotchy red patches, very attractive.

Oh god!!! Her next words were about him, or at least, the mystery figure that she KNEW was out there and was not wrong in that regard. Zeke knew he couldn't go in like this and turn her first impression of him into some stark raving fool! He had to swallow the laughter, put it away for later when they were gone. Bite the bullet and lock that sucker away.

God that was going to be hard. She had Ian going through hoops right off the bat! She was Too Good!

"Hellooooo!" When he came into the room the vet was...hardly the imagine of perfection. He was trying, bless him, but despite his efforts he could not stop his eyes from looking watery and no amount of rubbing at his cheeks would make the redness go away. In fact, it only made it worse. Toss in a smile that was a little too wide, a finger wiggle of a wave, and a greeting that was a few seconds too long and well...here he was, folks. This was your Lab associate of the day. Top tier staff.

"I'm sorry for hiding from you, miss!" He wiped at his eyes and coughed to clear his throat. "I didn't want to distract you from Ian here!"

He stopped next to Ian and patted the other man on the back. He had gotten this far in and he hadn't succumbed yet. This was good.

"My name is Zeke! And to answer your question I am NOT the one who put you in here, but I AM one of the two who is going to get you out!"

While Eden was thoroughly distracted with Zeke's appearance, Ian couldn't help staring. He'd imagined all sorts of things, sure, but had refused to let himself get too attached to any possibilities. He knew that, generally speaking, she would have a lot of flower-like aspects given that both her essence and soul had to do with them, but he certainly hadn't expected this. She was practically covered in blossoms, spread through her hair and along her shoulder, even dotting her ribbon. Right before his eyes, even, they were changing! Was that- oleander? They had just been rosebuds and lilies a few moments ago! His head was spinning.

The nymph's bright green eyes flitted from Zeke's rather blotchy, too-smiley face to Ian's, then back to the more colorful of the two. Despite her hesitance and a bit of uncertainty about this place, a hint of a smile tugged at the corner of her rosy lips. Something about Zeke's smile was a bit infectious - or perhaps funny? "When?" She'd been in here long enough in her book, and she had thoroughly examined everything that seemed interesting (which was admittedly little). "These... lights are very harsh." She glanced up at the fluorescent bulbs overhead as her moth-like wings fluttered in irritation. Something about them unsettled her; they reflected off all of the metal in the room and her head was beginning to ache.

"Oh-" Ian startled slightly, glancing up at the lights as well, "um, your soul- You probably need some fresh air, right?" He glanced at Zeke, but felt a distinct spinning in his head and his vision swam for a moment. Was he going to pass out? No... Was it her? The blossoms had done this at least once before, so it could very well be her method of feeding. Blinking rapidly, he took a deep breath to clear his head. "Eden, are- Are you hungry?"

The nymph looked back at her guardian and her bold eyebrows rose slightly. "I was, but I'm not now."

He too saw the flowers on the Frei change and was ensnared in watching them, smile losing some of its size in order to gawk. Buds bloomed into dahlias and tulips but then those morphed into lily of the valley and...sunflowers?! That doofy smile returned fully at the sight of them. They were his favorite.

"Very soon, unless..." He trailed off to look at Ian to bring the decision to him but the man looked a little funny and that brought along the concern. "Are you okay?" Ian questioned the Frei and her reply was unexpected. Zeke looked between the two before resting on the pink Frei, considering her and the Essence that had gone into making her.

"Do you need to sit down, Ian?" There was a desk in the room and a chair tucked behind it. Zeke's words did not carry any alarm but he was ready to take action nonetheless. "I think the realization that you're here finally sunk in! Your beauty sent him through a loop!"

He smiled at her kindly, not wanting to cause her any alarm if Ian was to suddenly drop out of the blue. Alarm to a newborn was the last thing he ever wanted, ever.

Well, at least now Ian had a vague idea of what Eden would feed on. It only made sense, given how the blossoms had drained energy as well. It was quite literally an exhausting food source; he hoped they could find something for her to draw from other than himself... "N-No, I'm okay. Thanks though," he said with a lopsided smile. He straightened up a little and took a breath. He was already feeling a bit better, but it was likely his body adjusting to the new fatigue. This would require a learning curve, that was for certain.

Eden toyed with the ends of her hair while the two humans spoke, inspecting the color. She had yet to see a full image of herself in any reflective surface; everything was just dull enough to be blurry. Her big green eyes watched Zeke as he mentioned her beauty and a smile tugged at the corners of her mouth.

"Thank you," the nymph blink before she turned away to inspect the room again, picking up a long instrument with a bendy cord connecting a v-shaped part and a round, smooth metal circle at the other end. She pressed it to her skin, her wings fluttering at the cold sensation. She didn't seem overly concerned with either of them now -- the knowledge of leaving soon had allowed her to relax somewhat.

Turning to Zeke, the florist let out another soft sigh of a laugh and beamed. His sudden fatigue was passing and being steadily replaced by sheer joy once more.

"Okay, if you're sure." He gave the man a pat on the back and smiled at the Frei as she inspected an object in the room. "And since you're okay, why don't we fulfill the lady's request and bust her out of here? We can do the paperwork in the lobby. Better lighting in there and there's way more room for everyone too."

He gestured for them to follow, reopening the door and allowing both to pass through before he took up the lead. He did the same action when they reached the lobby door but hung back when he stepped through to see what the pink Frei would do in the bigger, less office-y space.

"Welcome to the lobby!" It was indeed better lit thanks to several more lighting fixtures and was definitely larger than the previous room. Comfy seating arrangements were set off to one side while a large desk with chairs situated in front of it was placed off to the opposite. Across the room the windows were not shaded for the night just yet and beyond the glass the world was dark but not completely black thanks to streetlights, passing car headlights, and the warm glow from adjacent house windows. "Feel free to look around, miss. Once Ian and I get through this last bit of paperwork, you two will be free to go!"

Zeke moved to his desk and the file that for now still only had Ian's name on it. He pushed it to the opposite side of the desk, opening it and placing a black ink pen on the unsigned documents inside.

"These can be signed when you're ready, I know how it is when you first meet your Raevan for the first time!" He clearly remembered his own hands shaking when he first met Anya. "These are the final release forms. I'll need her name on this line here and then your signature and the date on these lines down here." He pointed to the spots as he spoke. "The legal mumbo jumbo is basically you will take care of her to the best of your abilities, that you abide by the regulations and rules the Lab has set down for you, and that if at any time you can no longer take care of her that you will safely bring her back to the Lab or contact a staff member to do that for you."

As they moved into the lobby, Eden was right on the pair's heels. She'd discarded the strange object from earlier, tossing it on the table in her haste to get out of the uncomfortably small and metallic room. This new place wasn't outside, but it was significantly better. The lights were not as harsh and it was certainly bigger - she could float from end to end with plenty of space in between. Her wings flexed and flared out as she made a circuit around the new room, even drifted behind the desk with Zeke for a moment. This whole place was so strange, so square and sharp and... boring.

As Eden made her way back over to the waiting area and thumbed through a few magazines, Ian busied himself with the paperwork. "Of course," he murmured as he printed Eden's name where it was needed and scribbled out a signature. "Have you had anyone actually return their raevan? I couldn't imagine..." Though he supposed that, if driven to dire straights and if he suddenly lost everything, it might be for the best. Glancing over at Eden again, the florist let out a soft sigh as she ruffled through the papers and left a bit of a mess before moving to something else. He hoped he could do right by her.

She had discovered the windows by now, and wondered what could possibly be out there. Craning her neck and pressing her cheek to the cool glass, Eden tried to see as far down the street as she could. "Are we going out there?" She looked over at the two humans and raised her brows expectantly. It was then that she realized she could see movement in the glass, but it wasn't outside. Floating a foot or so backward, she squinted and could actually make out her reflection. "Is this me?" Sure enough, when she moved her arm so did the person in the glass. "I look different than you... Why don't you have one of these?" With a pointed glance down at her ribbon, she smoothed her fingers over the soft material and gazed at the glowing cloud inside the loops.

Ian laughed softly from where he stood near the front desk. "We're human, Eden. You're a raevan- that ribbon is completely normal for you." He smiled, brushing his curling bangs out of his face. "But you look different from others, too. I can show you pictures when we get home."

He lowered his voice.

"I'm not gonna blow smoke up your a** so yeah, there's been a couple of times where Raevans were returned to us." To his knowledge they had all been of the Guardian's free will rather than the Lab having to go in and do an extraction. His thoughts went to Ethiriel, she had been the last one returned as far as he could remember and while she was doing well with her new Guardian now he was certain the transition had been an unhappy one all the same. He would have to call Henry, see how she was doing with everything going on and see if they couldn't work out something to get their girls together again soon. Both would like that, he was sure. "I can't give you specifics of course but sometimes things don't work out for one or both parties. It's unfortunate, but it happens. I can say though that the Raevans who were returned to us are all placed in new homes and are happy there."

He let Ian continue to sign, especially when Eden spoke up and drew his eye. His smile returned and he nodded, about to confirm her question about going outside but she cut that short when she remarked upon her reflection in the glass. Ian took charge of answering that and Zeke couldn't help but chuckle.

"I can do you one better and show you a picture now!" His phone was out in a flash and he had a shot of Anya on the screen just as quickly. He held it out to Eden to take, beaming from ear to ear with pride over the purple-haired Frei in the photo. "Her name is Anastacia, she's my Raevan."

She looked mild in demeanor in the photo, having allowed Zeke to take the one he showed off. In it her hair was down and she was dressed as she had been the day she was born, holding up a project in the works. Perhaps it wouldn't be apparent to one who had never met her before but Zeke knew the Widow's way of showing pride in what she was doing. He had been over the moon when she had allowed him to capture such a candid moment.

"You can kind of see her ribbon at the bottom there, that jagged thing with the webs, see? You two are very different from one another, even down to your ribbons! It'll be like that for every Raevan you meet; no two of you are exactly alike!" Of course that worked the same for most creatures, twins and triplets and such aside. "We'll have to get you two together sometime; I'm sure Anya would love to meet you."

He smiled between Eden and her Guardian, knowing there was always a chance that wouldn't hold water. But hey, she had already had a great friendship with another pink Raevan, so why not go two for two? It would be hilarious for him, to say the least.

Both Ian and Eden perked up when Zeke mentioned a picture, and the nymph flitted closer in what seemed like the blink of an eye. She peered curiously at the little screen in the man's hand, both perplexed by the device and amazed by the picture. "Oh... She's so pretty! A different kind of pretty, but still." Where she knew she was all sweetness and light, this Anastacia was all darkness and mystery, a sort of fierce beauty where hers was soft.

She turned to Ian was a relatively blank expression, but her eyes were determined and alert. "I want to meet her."

Ian balked, then dissolved in a few chuckles. "We'll see. I'd love for that to happen. But for now, we should uh- probably get you settled in at home first?" He glanced over the paperwork again and took a breath. "So, I think that's everything right? Did I miss a line?"

Meanwhile Eden had moved away again, plump lips twisted in a frustrated pout after Ian had sort of denied her. She floated back toward the plants, looking at the little flowers in the pots. She changed her own flowers to match, pansies and petunias blossoming along her ribbon.

"I want to meet her."

He laughed and his smile went from ear to ear. She sounded so sure, so keen, he couldn't help himself! All the more reason to make a meeting between the girls a reality.

"I'll see what I can do, Eden," he winked at the pink Frei, but did nod in agreement with her Guardian's two cents. "Ian is right though; getting you settled in at home is very important! I mean, you're gonna have your very own room to decorate and that'll take some time and consideration I'm sure!"

Zeke stepped back to view the paperwork, watching the girl out of the corner of his eye before looking down to survey the pen marks Ian had put down. The vet hummed a note as he flipped through and checked every line, before nodding and adding his own name and the date to the line that required a staff member's scrawl.

"Everything seems to be in order on your end, and it definitely is on mine!" He flipped the papers closed and placed them neatly into the folder that bore Ian's name. Pen still in hand, Zeke added Eden's own to the tab that stuck out before beaming at the Guardian and the Frei just a few short feet away. "Now that that is taken care of, you guys are free to go and start your lives together! Unless either of you have any questions you need answered at this very moment of course."
