Welcome to the class of...

Defense Against the Dark Arts by Professor Sebastian Windsor

This class runs from 3:00pm to 3:45pm every Thursday. The classroom was your standard classroom like all others in Hogwarts, except this classroom was wider and has its own vacant space at the back of the room enough for hands-on practices. On the shelves there were books filled with anything related to the Class, and of course a wide blackboard with some details of the lessons. The room was well lit with golden yellow hues from the lights and the curtains draping the windows were of maroon and viridian, but enough to bathe the floorings.

About the Professor

This fourth year and beyond, your new professor for this class is Professor Sebastian Windsor. A former Cursebreaking Professor for seven years, Sebastian, or much known as "Ian", was a former archaeologist and an artist at heart from House Ravenclaw. Also, he pretty much has a high level of tolerance when it comes to snarks and snide comments, but who knows? Nobody seemed to witness him being angry, anyway. In year 2033 he began a new class of Defense Against the Dark Arts for the upper classmen from Fourth Years to Seventh Years.

Rules and Regulations

1. You are expected to come to class on time, otherwise I will start the class without any delay and get docked points as well. (In the Roleplay, you must at least post in two lessons for this class, otherwise you'll get docked 10 points)

2. At least, do not be a jerk towards people, and no I don't care what you were arguing about. Take that scene somewhere in the right time unless you want a detention or docked points.

3. Cast a spell only if you're being told to, I do not want anyone to be ended up in the Hospital Wing.

4. Please participate in the class. Please, there is no time for unnecessary chatting while the class is on-going.

5. And of course, your wands and books should be present all the time in this class.

Things to be discussed

Fourth Years, this year we will discuss the following :

[ ] Stupefy
[ ] Aqua Eructo Charm
[ ] Hex-deflection/Salvio Hexia
[ ] Finite/Incantatem

The Roleplayer's Note

Hello, Jade Galaksylph here! This thread updates every Friday, which means that when you didn't post on or before Tuesday, you will be considered late. Also, I only dock points when you didn't post in two lessons. And yes, feel free to interact with the professor while the class was ongoing if it was something your character would do.

And of course, have a fun time and never be afraid. Just post and write that makes sense with your character and you're good to go! Thank you for reading and have a good time roleplaying!

Another day means new lesson, the classroom which has its own vacant space at the back of the room for hand-on exercises, have hovering targets on the back of the room. Those targets were just the classical and ordinary bull's eye targets (with five concentric circles creating five annuli as well) except they have small brown wings on them. As the crowd of students came in and took their seats, Sebastian started, "Hello again class and I hope you at least did your practicing assignment." He said, "Today we will learn about the Stunning Spell, also known as a Stunner or a Stupefying Charm. A straightforward spell, this charm is a common spell that renders the target unconscious and halts moving objects. A spell commonly used in duel and the wizard's bread-and-butter in terms of self-defense and combat, the incantation for this is Stupefy with a vertical slash." He drew a point on the board, labeling a starting point, and drew a vertical line to display the wand movement.

"Now, you see those targets over there? They're your moving targets, your task is to stun at least one target, preferably with accuracy. The closer towards the bull's eye the more points for your house. If you know what to do, you may begin," He waved a wand and the small-winged targets began to move freely with moderate speed around the room but at least the target have the "heart" to avoid bumping on furniture and the students as well.

Hannah wasn't exactly looking forward to the Dark Arts class, especially since she wouldn't have Professor Reed there (like after the dreaded 'Boggart Class') didn't know Professor Windsor. Linny liked the man, knowing him best as her Cursebreaking teacher, but then she liked Professor Hill as well, so no promises this guy wasn't a repressed maniac too. At least he didn't look like he was ready to eat a student, so that was a step in the right direction. Still, she made sure not to be late.

Getting right into new material straight away, Professor Windsor was discussing a spell used in dueling and in self-defense. He also had flying targets at the back of the room. Hannah smiled when she saw this, as it wasn't all that different from the targets the Beaters used in practice, and she was used to hitting an iron cannonball at them while flying through the air.

When she felt ready, Hannah stood and picked one of the winged targets. "Stupefy!" she called out, and gestured with her wand as the teacher indicated. Her shot tagged the target, neatly hitting the three ring. She had a satisfied smile when she saw her score.

Heading to her defense against the dark arts class right after muggle art, Emma despite having slept in was yawning. She blamed it on her art history class. It was the only reason considering she’d been alert all day. Coming into class with Hannah, she took a seat with her as she looked to see who their professor was. Professor Windsor seemed like a nice guy. Definitely not like Professor Hill whom Emma was glad she didn’t have.

Taking the notes down from the board along with what Professor Windsor was saying, Emma wondered why they never learned it sooner. By the sounds of things the stunning spell was handy to have and easy enough for someone to do. Just say the incantation and make a slash with your wand at your target. Once they were given instruction, Emma took her wand and headed over to the targets.

Pushing her tired feeling aside, Emma faced the targets and mentally picked a target. It was just like Quidditch, aim for one of the hoops and pray. Only differences was the hoops didn’t move the person blocking did. Taking a breath, the Hufflepuff made the vertical slash down as she called out the incantation. “Stupefy!” Hitting the innermost circle. "Did I just do that...?" She said in shock. Clearly muggle art hadn't been the end of her.

I've got this planet in my hands;
You know I'll waste it if I can.
Come on, let's give it a twist-
And if it all turns to s**t-
Oh, wait, let's try that again.
My life's too short to have a plan;
Here, let me help you understand!

And he was right- on his second attempt he got a bulls-eye on one of the targets, and his slashes, he thought, were close to perfect. He did have a natural talent for charmwork, he reflected. It'd always been one of his strong suits, that and healing magic.

Kyson took his seat in Defense Against the Dark Arts class with the other students. This year, they had a new professor. He seemed decent enough, and he wasn't a jerk like Professor Hill was. He was so glad to be rid of that guy for the rest of his years at Hogwarts. After taking down the notes on the lecture, Kyson took out his wand and faced a target. This should be easy, he figured. "Stupefy!" he said, jerking his wand upward in the motion demonstrated to them. He hit the second innermost circle, nearly hitting the bullseye. He hmphed, crossing his arms. He could have done better than that.

Welcome to the end of eras. Ice has melted back to life. Done my time and served my sentence.

I'm taking back the crown. I'm all dressed up and naked. I see what's mine and take it.
Finders keepers, losers weepers. Oh, yeah, the crown... So close I can taste it.

The chairs of the room were missing, but instead, it was replaced with four long rectangular boxes filled with clear water sparkling from the windows' light. On the table were a collection of small miniature boats with different varying designs from a Spanish Galleon ship to a Chinese Exploration Ship, and yes, someone might say that Sebastian had a thing for aesthetic and boats but who knows? Sebastian just finished filling the last box when a group of fourth years decided to enter the room, and until the last person came in he spoke up serenely, "Good afternoon, I hope you did your practicing assignments for we will be doing a hands-on activity" Holding up his Alder wand he continued, "In the world, people think that it's always black and white. But I say that it was just different shades of grey, there always has been. My point is, we should not push things too hard but it doesn't mean that you should do too little, we should always aim for the middle or the grey."

Sebastian looked at some students as if he was observing their facial expressions, "Anyway, back to the lesson. The spell that we are going to learn is the Aqua Eructo Charm-- a simple spell, really. A straightforward spell, it conjures water from the tip of your wand with intensities ranging from thin harmless fountain to a immense water jet, but please it's better if none of you intend to flood the classroom. The wand movement is just pointing the wand at the intended target, Aqua Eructo!" Then he pointed his wand at a nearby target used last meeting and a jet of water hit it from the ice-blue light of the wand, knocking it down on the floor (Not that he cared, anyway). "And there you have it, a working charm of that spell should have this ice-blue light from your wand, then you know you're doing it right."

"I know some of you would ask me something like 'What does the whole black-and-white thing had something to do with this lesson anyway?' Well, that is the thing we should also focus on in this hands-on activity. Now, you see those miniatures of boats? You're going to pick one and your goal is to get the boat to the end as fast as possible with the Aqua Eructo, maybe race with someone if feeling competitive. Warning though, if you push the boat too hard with geyser-like water, it will sink but don't worry it'll not break so you could just get it back-- And of course if you only conjure something like some tiny faucet, obviously your boat won't move that fast. So the key points here is, aim for the middle-- not too much but not too little-- and of course get the boat to the finish line. Now, if you know what to do, you can get a boat from there. If not, then shoot me a question. Oh, and don't you shoot each other with water and ending up getting soaked robes," Then the students proceeded into picking some boats, some of them sank it way too early while some of them were sailing like some sloth. A successful sail should be done in around two minutes or maybe less, but usually the mediocre one was done in three minutes.

Hannah was a little bewildered by the miniature boats and the race course set up for them, but it made the class lecture more interesting, as did Professor Windsor's commentary on the world being shades of grey rather than black or white. What she got from the shades of gray, at least as it pertained to this class, was that this was a finesse exercise, not one requiring raw power.

Picking out a little square-rigged man o' war, she aimed her wand toward its stern and intoned, "Aqua Erecto!" and was rewarded with a stream of water jetting from the tip of her wand, which pushed her little boat along the course. Her's might not be the swiftest, but she intended to get her boat where it needed to go.

It was a Thursday afternoon after the lunch break when Sebastian had the classroom all everything arranged and fixed. While waiting, he was casually sitting on his front desk, reading a book. All he had to do was just wait for the students to enter and get their seats, which should be done within one minute or less. Now, as every student finally got their seats, he stood up and spoke up with a serene smile, "Hello fourth years," He said, "Welcome to the new school year and I hope you enjoy your summers. My name is Sebastian Windsor and I will be your professor this year and onwards. You may call me Professor Ian or just Professor Windsor and as for the rules, you are expected to come in time for I will start the class without any delays, because all of you have been here for four years so it wouldn't make sense as of why you would get lost, unless you have a valid reason to be. Second, please no fighting or drama in my class, take that somewhere or you'll either get a detention, or docked points, or both. Wands, of course, are present at all time but please do not cast any unnecessary spells for we do not want any unnecessary injuries. And lastly, of course, participate and use common sense which I hope you all have since you're all fourth years to begin with. Now, if you have any questions, feel free to ask"

"Now moving on, in defending yourselves against danger, or might as well having to knock down an opponent, one of the things to know in dueling is accuracy. Even in dire situation, you still have to keep your eyes peeled to hit back instead of shooting a spell blindly, this is why we're going to have this activity while at the same time learning a new spell," The classroom which has its own vacant space at the back of the room for hand-on exercises, have hovering targets at the back of the room. Those targets were just the classical and ordinary bull's eye targets except they have small brown wings on them. "Today we will learn about the Stunning Spell, also known as a Stunner or a Stupefying Charm. A straightforward spell, this charm is a common spell that renders the target unconscious and halts moving objects. A spell commonly used in duel and it's the wizard's bread-and-butter in terms of self-defense and combat, the incantation for this is Stupefy with a vertical slash." He drew a point, labeling a starting point, and drew a vertical line to display the wand movement on the board.

"Now, you see those targets over there? They're your moving targets, your task is to stun at least one target, preferably with accuracy. The closer towards the bull's eyes the more points for your house. If you know what to do, you may begin," He waved a wand and the small-winged targets began to move freely with moderate speed around the room but at least the target have the "heart" to avoid bumping on furniture and the students as well.
