So named for it's unusual placement, Dam Rock is located deep in the Yrimin Forest. Seemingly placed in the center of a local stream, the rock has long since stopped the flow of water, creating a small reservoir behind it, fed by an underground spring. Far too large to have been moved by any known method, being tall enough to breach the forest canopy and overshadow even the largest of the forest's trees, the rock has been present as long as anyone can remember. No evidence exists to suggest how it arrived, but all agree that it was not there originally, as evidenced by the long dried riverbed leading away from it.

Explorers wishing to visit Dam Rock must first pass through Yrimin Forest.

Blue sky... S frowned, looking up into the air. Blue sky... What was wrong with the sky? It was sunny today, and his spot was quite warm, it was making his mind sluggish. Sluggish... Was that even a word? Maybe it was something Shiny had said... Shiny... Blue sky... Blinking, S sat upright. Why was it so warm? It wasn't warm in the mountains, and the lizards hadn't burnt him. Looking down, S frowned again. Green trees? "Where am I?" the boy wondered aloud, standing up and walking to the edge of the cliff to peer down, only to find naught but trees. There weren't supposed to be trees...

"Not this again..." S muttered, looking around a bit more closely. No, this definitely wasn't the right place, and once again he couldn't feel Shiny anywhere, not even the tingle of assurance he'd had the last time that the giant man was somewhere near. No... There was a definite absence of Shiny here in fact. Where was Shiny? Would he come? Or was S finally alone again?

Sitting down again, S went about the difficult process of figuring out what to do next, for all of five seconds, before he noticed something else wrong. "My tail!" the boy yelped, jumping to his feet and clutching at his rear end, finding nothing coming from his tailbone where it belonged. "No no no this isn't right, how could you do this to me..." he muttered to himself, pacing about the rock. His tail was important, it marked who he was, it was what kept Shiny from being the only monster, he couldn't lose his tail, he needed it! "Give it back give it back give it back!" he yelled towards the sky, scratching at the point where his tail had always been, and then to his surprise the missing appendage leapt from under his skin, retaking it's rightful place like it had never left.

Blinking, S grasped the furry appendage and pulled it around to look at it, then fell back on his butt, clutching his tail to his chest like a long lost friend, like the blanket he'd once had back home with his mother. "Where are you Shiny?" the boy whispered, a tear leaking from the corner of his eye. This place wasn't right, and Shiny wasn't here, and he didn't know what to do.

Daeron Lassyaian
|| Elf ||

User Image
With ease the young elf passed through the early parts of the forest, knowing quite well the area he'd entered from and just as well the flora and fauna which occupied it. Where he was headed was a favorite spot of his to stop, and in earnest an area which many elves regarded with dignity and respect. Emerging from deep brush, Daeron found himself a few feet from the fresh spring. Kneeling down and resting on the balls of his feet he dipped his cupped right hand gently into the water, muttering solemnly in elven a thanks to the forest. Most did not understand this about elves, why they regarded nature with such respect, some elven communities even going so far as to deify it in many ways. However, it was something one could not teach, to appreciate the earth and all its creatures and beauty for what it was. Either after a while this appreciation dawned on you, or it simply did not. It was this among many other reasons a hefty amount of elves regarded the other races as rather disrespectful.

The uttered phrase Daeron spoke more or less to himself was a thanks to the water for begetting the rock which sprung the reservoir which fed the forest that fed the animals who in turn fed him. It was an homage to the beautiful infinite circle of giving the forests of the lands had. In civ standard, the phrase did not translate as well, or nearly as elegantly as it was in elven however Daeron had attempted to explain it to those curious enough to ask. As he finished speaking to Yrimin as most elves tended to speak to a forest as if its given name had always been and will always be, he at last drank from the spring carefully. Despite seemingly being alone his manners did not and could not falter as his cupped hand once more dipped into the cool water, then again, and again six times more for a drink. This moments reprieve from an endeavor which was sure to be a tireless one was much appreciated, and he reveled in the beauty around him both seen, and heard. Then, he proceeded to wash his face with the water before at last standing to his full height, looking up at the rock into the canopy of the forest around him.

As if fate had put him there at that moment, he watched as a pair of what looked to be feline ears and a small face looked over the side of the rock through foliage which had been eaten away by the harsh rays of the sun. Then he heard it speak aloud, apparently confused as to where it was. He gathered it was a young boy of some sort despite appearing to be of another race entirely, although Daeron had a difficult time being confident in his assumption since his voice seemed to be between a younger male and somewhat older female. If there was one perk to having long ears, it was the level at which he could hear. He couldn't make it out, but the young elf could swear he heard the voice come in softer as the...thing he was looking at seemed to dart its head around over the side of the rock. Then like that, his small frame disappeared back onto the rock.

Walking around to the side of the rock where the water splashed up he heard what sounded like honest concern come from the boy, this time yelling something about a tail. Then it continued, and from the sound of it he was missing an appendage his race, or at least he in particular, had. There was a final cry for help, at least it was the last thing even his ears could hear. Daeron didn't know if he was yelling at no one in particular, or if someone or something was on that rock with him holding his tail. Looking back down at the water splashing up on the large rock and curling in on itself like a small wave, Daeron sighed. While it wasn't in his nature to go out of his way for anyone, especially someone whom he did not know nor had any interest in, he had to admit that even he would regret not helping what appeared to be a child alone.

Shaking his head and muttering in elven to himself about why these things seemed to happen to him, he looked up and placed his left hand around his mouth and yelled up in civ standard. "Hey! Are you alright up there?" Placing his hand back at his side, Daeron looked up in a bit of anticipation, hoping the kid didn't need too much help up there. Honestly, he wondered how he'd made it all the way up there on his own. At least until he put two and two together in his head somewhat mockingly. He was yelling for a tail, had feline ears, and was from the looks of it quite young. When he was a younger elf himself he'd cared for a kitten from birth to death and he couldn't count how many times it climbed to heights it could never hope to get down from on its own. Nostalgia struck him for a moment as he stared upwards, feeling as if he were less than half his age again calling for the animal he had in his youth. He just hoped he didn't have to somehow make it up there and carry the boy scratching and biting all the way down in a similar fashion.

S froze at the sound of a voice, his ears swiveling around to better catch sounds from behind. Oh, good, he still had those. Spinning around, S rubbed his eyes clear and wiped his nose, before quickly crawling to the edge of the cliff again and stuck his head out just to the nose, peering down to where the voice came from. Sure enough there was a man down there. A tall man, though not as tall as Shiny, but nobody was as tall as Shiny. Way thinner than Shiny too, and he wasn't shiny at all, except that thing on his head, but that hardly counted.

"You're not Shiny." he commented, the thought being the first to find it's way to his mouth, and nearly drawing tears again as he remembered that Shiny wasn't here. "Who are you?" he added after a few seconds of staring determined that he hadn't seen the man before. "What's wrong with your ears?" he tacked on. He'd never seen a human with ears like that before. Goblins had ears kinda like that, but they were shorter than S, much less this guy.

Daeron Lassyaian
|| Elf ||

User Image
As the boy's head peeked over the rock face once more, Daeron took a moment to fully study the face he'd seen at a quick glance earlier. Definitely a boy from the looks of it. The first thing the younger individual said was something that the elf blatantly did not understand. For a moment he took the comment at face value, almost opening his mouth with a light chuckle to remark that he indeed was not shiny, most people he was going to encounter weren't. However, given the fact the kid seemed distraught and alone he wondered if perhaps it was a nickname for a familiar friend.

Then just as quickly as Daeron had attempted to process what was first said to him, the boy got to a question he found to be suitable given the situation he was in. "Nope, if there's one thing I am not it is definitely 'shiny.' Although to be fair, neither are you. As for my name, I'll tell you who I am if you can tell me who you are." The lean elf figured his first answer covered both his bases, whether the boy was talking about a person or merely his skin. The second answer was merely an attempt to see if the boy at the very least knew who he was since he seemed to be so confused, and at the same time was merely a byproduct of Daeron's personality. Information was not simply given, it was traded in his opinion. The world was a harsh place, and with tales of practitioners of magic being capable of changing their form, he was wary to outright trust what looked and sounded like an odd child.

Then the boy tacked on another comment as if it just popped into his head and out of his mouth, barely a second passing between Daeron answering and him speaking. The comment definitely cemented one thing, he was no mage in disguise. Only a child would ask such a question so blatantly and without a modicum of decorum. Stifling the slightest crack of a smile at the innocent question the child posed rather abruptly, he answered as calmly as any elf could to a question that was considered a bit offensive depending on how it was asked. "Nothing. What about yours?"

Blinking at the man, S reached up and pulled at the edge of his ear, just to make sure they were still okay. Yep, still there. "I'm a monster." he answered the latter question. "I have weird parts, so I'm a monster. That's the rules." he added in explanation, just to be sure the odd man understood. Sliding forward further so that his whole head was over the edge, S crossed his arms on the cliff and grinned down at the man. "I'm S!" he called down. "What are you doing?"

Daeron Lassyaian
|| Elf ||

User Image
An eyebrow raised on the left side of Daeron's face as the boy he would soon come to know as 'S' answered with yet another odd remark. Then again, he was a child after all from what the elf could tell. For now he figured it best to play along, after all he seemed a lot calmer than he was before being called up to. As the sun reached a height which struck the back of Daeron's ears causing them to not only seem to glow if only for as long as the light remained there but also burn slightly, he lifted his right hand and tapped the back of the tip of his ear slightly flipping it forward before the edge flipped back into place.

As he did this, the boy leaned over the edge this time poking his full head out. Then he called out his name, or at least what Daeron thought was the only letter he'd get. Whether S was truly his full name or not, this amused the blonde elf more than he'd anticipated. If anything, the boy was shrewd he'd give him that. Replying as he made the same motion with his ear Daeron spoke up to S once more, deciding to let the boy have this one. "My name is Daeron, but just as well I suppose if you think my ears are weird I'm a monster by the rules too. Unless there can only be one, in which case the title is all yours."

It was then that S asked what Daeron was doing, which wasn't exactly as easy to explain as the youthful figure assumed it would be. For a moment, he thought on this question longer than anticipated. He muttered to himself as his gaze fell to the water watching a leaf spin in a small whirlpool, the elven tongue escaping his lips in a soft voice. Looking back up quickly, he repeated what he'd said to himself in standard for the boy to understand. "I'm...I'm finding my way." The words almost left a bad taste in his mouth, they lacked elegance in standard. Not only this, but the duality of the short phrase was muddled and difficult to discern as easily as it was in his language. Clearing his throat, he pointed at S lazily. "What about you?"

Watching the odd man flick at his ears, S barely heard his comments on the rules of ears and monsters, but when the man went silent and contemplative he focused in, peering down at him. Was he on a quest? Hunting for treasure? Maybe... Before he could think of any other options the man spoke again. Oh, he was just lost. Well, in a way he was lost too, so that was understandable, though this guy didn't seem all that confused as to how he'd gotten here, so he probably hadn't just woken up there.

Then, the man's words about his ears clicked in his head, and S's eyes widened. "No!" he yelped, sliding forward again, right over the edge, rolling legs over head in midair before landing gracefully upright on his feet, not even crouching to absorb the impact. Immediately he stepped forward, pointing directly into the man's face. "You're not a monster!" he insisted. "I'm the monster so Shiny doesn't have to be! You're not Shiny, but you don't have to be a monster either, cause I am already!" he yelled, stomping one foot insistently and poking the man in the stomach, since he couldn't actually reach much higher without getting way closer, and if he did that he wouldn't be able to see the man's face properly, and that was no good at all.

Daeron Lassyaian
|| Elf ||

User Image
At first S seemed disinterested in his response, which Daeron figured had something to do with exactly what he'd thought about moments earlier as he spoke it. The boy wouldn't get it, and Daeron was not interested in spending the time to explain it any further. All of a sudden however, something he said prompted the boy to yell out at him, this time not in a friendly tone. As quickly as the word had escaped the young one's lips, Daeron's eyes widened to watch the boy leap off the large rock. His gut reaction prompted his right hand to jerk up, however before he could raise it above his head there the boy was in front of him, paying no mind to the fall.

In fact, the display of agility didn't even phase him as he proceeded to continue on a short temperamental rant. From what was said, apparently S insisted on being the only monster, although Daeron wished the child remembered his words carefully enough to realize what had been said to him. Moving on to promptly poking and prodding at Daeron's stomach and stomping defiantly once, the taller figure of the two rolled his eyes as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Easy S. Like I said, if there can only be one, the title is all yours. Besides, I rather like being an elf anyway. You could say I've had some time to come to like it." Positive the joke about his age versus his appearance went literally and figuratively over the cat-eared boy's head, Daeron took a step back to allow himself a bit more personal space.

"Well, I guess you weren't stuck up there that's for sure. I haven't seen anyone move like that outside of exclusive elven hunting guilds, I'm pretty impressed. So tell me this, do you know where you are?"

S narrowed his eyes, squinting at the man as if to discern if he was telling the truth. Satisfied after a moment, he stepped back, cocking his head to the side. What on earth was an Elf? He didn't think he'd met one before. Before he could consider asking though, the man kept talking, and asked if he knew where he was. Frowning, S shook his head.

"I was on the mountain. We were fighting drakes so I could get Auggie a saddle." he told the man, frowning as that brought up another thought. "Auggie isn't here either..." Luckily this didn't bother him as much, he hadn't known Auggie long after all, though he had been pretty nice about the whole thing.

Pausing, S looked up at the man, realizing that he had been rather rudely wandering off on his own tangent. "Do you know where you are?" he asked, looking at the man with obvious concern. He had after all said that he was lost. "I don't know where we are, but I can hear good, and smell, and I can probably help you get home." he offered, now truly worried for the tall "Elf". He didn't look like he belonged in the wild, not like Shiny at all. If anything happened to him now, it'd feel like his fault for not taking him home!

Daeron Lassyaian
|| Elf ||

User Image
For a brief period in time, Daeron found himself on the opposite end of a rather accusing set of narrowed eyes before S took a step back himself as if satisfied somewhat with the response. As he began to shake his head with a frown on his face, Daeron felt a pang of grief for the young one as he explained his situation. As was custom for their conversation thus far, what S spoke of made little to no sense at all. At least to one who didn't recognize root words in civ standard. No matter where you went, anything that started with 'Dra-' and was plural meant certain death for most. However as the elf had just seen, S was apparently more capable than could be assumed from his stature alone.

After explaining his predicament, S realized yet another person in his previous party was absent. It was certainly an odd and unfortunate situation for the boy to be in, and honestly his answer brought more questions than it served to solve any beforehand. Bringing his right hand up to his chin while keeping his arms somewhat crossed, Daeron tapped it lightly in thought. The only thing he could possibly think of that would transport S not only down a mountain, but somewhere unfamiliar to him entirely was a spell gone wrong, or possibly a spell performed perfectly. It was a mystery perhaps only S would have the answer for in his memory if it existed at all.

Focusing his attention back towards the pair of ears and swaying tail below his normal gaze, S asked a question which made sense all things considered. "Physically, I do. As far as figuratively however, I'm afraid I'm still attempting to find my way. That up there, what you were just on, is Dam Rock. You're in the belly of Yrimin himself. Sorry, that might be a bit confusing to you. You are in the middle of Yrimin Forest, in the Vasilikan region. My ancestral home is half a day from here, however my father's ancestral home is a different village entirely. But it is good to know that you can hear well and smell equally so. But I am looking for a new place to call home, at least for now. Maybe you can help me decide where that may be. I can hear pretty good as well, which in these woods it's good to have two pairs of decent ears."

Taking a moment to look up at the rock, then at the adjacent treeline across the spring before looking back at S Daeron continued. "You help me find a new home, and I'll guide you out of this forest to anything you might want to see on the way to any of the places I've been thinking about. I'm in no real rush to anywhere in particular, and I'd hate for you to get more lost than you already are. At the very least, take the rest of the day to think on it. Sound fair?"

S nodded slowly as the man spoke. So, he wasn't lost, but he didn't know where he was going? He definitely needed help then. Not for the last time S wished Shiny was here, he'd know just what to do and where to go. Even if he didn't know this place any better than S did. After all, last time he'd found the city who knew how long before S got there. Well, S would just have to do what he could without him until he got here, and this "Elf" needed help!

Nodding sharply, S grinned up at the man, showing perhaps a few too many of his unnaturally shaped teeth. "Alright! We'll find you a home Elfon, Elfon...? Elephon? Elephant? Are elves secretly elephants?" he broke off, muttering quietly to himself, peering at the newly dubbed Elron in surprise. No matter, he'd figure that out later! "We'll find you a home, but I don't think the water people want you to live here." he continued, getting back on track, finalizing his sentence with a glance at the deepest parts of the artificial pool. "So we better leave!" he chirped, darting forward to grab Elron's hand and pulling him along in a random direction away from the pool.

Daeron Lassyaian
|| Elf ||

User Image
Quickly, S nodded up towards him a moment before beginning on a wild tangent. He started to say the word elf but with something added at the end making the word an entirely new one altogether, reconstructing it in quick succession to the word elephant. The boy seemed lost in though with what he'd just done, Daeron somewhat amused at how quickly S darted from one thought to the other without ever really revisiting the last. Unlike young elves who were basically groomed to think carefully and reflect on what has been said, S had no scruples about speaking what was on his mind in that moment. Oddly, Daeron found this quality somewhat refreshing at the time being.

The babble continued to spill forth from the mouth of the kid Daeron found himself staring down at, speaking of 'water people' and them not wanting him there. He even looked over at the spring which prompted out of curiosity Daeron to do the very same. However before he could really take it all in, S piped up once more and pulled Daeron in no direction in particular, at least to the boy's knowledge. One thing was for sure, the boy was faster than Daeron could have ever suspected as he swore it was within the blink of an eye his new companion had taken his hand to 'lead' him off from the water people. The direction he chose was rather ironic, Daeron having just spoken lightly of his father's ancestral home.

In earnest, the young elf didn't think it appropriate to visit Quilda Celeth, at least not at this time. He'd visited the place once a year with his family to see relatives like his grandparents on one side, but otherwise he held little connection with the place. The community there was rather distrusting of people, at least outsiders without any ancestral connection. Given where the place was however, Daeron found it appropriate that they might have become this way simply due to past encounters with thieves or raiders attempting to take what was their main good. Still, there were more stops in this direction they could take, Daeron's long limbs stretching into a lofty trot behind the quick small figure in front of him. He definitely did not expect his day to end up this way, however Daeron felt it necessary to leave himself open to experiencing things he had not. Besides, Daeron was rather curious about unraveling the mystery that was S. And leaving the kid to fend for himself although becoming more and more apparent that was possible, didn't feel right to the elf.

S grinned as he pulled his new friend along. With or without Shiny, it was always fun to explore new places, and he already had someone to do it with! He wanted to see all this place had to offer, and if everyone was as friendly as this guy it'd be awesome!

Abruptly though, S stopped, halting in place as his ears swiveled this way and that. He'd heard something from the trees, but he wasn't sure in which direction. Whatever it was, it was quiet, and knew how to move, but... There! The wind shifted slightly, and S caught a whiff of feline scent. The kind of feline scent that meant you were supposed to stay away. "Uhoh." S breathed. The scent was a marking scent, and he couldn't catch a whiff of the actual predator, but his ears didn't lie, and he knew it was out there. "Back up." S whispered, letting go of Elron's hand and instead pushing him backwards, slowly stepping back himself to get more distance between them and the trees.
