Jesse looked over the loft one last time, with pride he had fully cleaned the apartment and was ready for his new roommate. The last one suddenly left after a party, well more like got evicted after they had a massive party, but getting kicked out before cleaning a huge mess is a big no no. Sadly the landlord did not care, with a threat like if the place is not clean by the time then half the rent the new lease owner will be put on his bill along with the cleaning, motivations that would even get a sloth to work all night. It took him a week to get all the trash and rearrange the furniture, but the room looked better then when he first moved in. With a sigh we sat back on the couch and kicked up his feet, all there was left was to wait for his new roommate to arrive, even though he could not get a hold of his landlord to see waht type of person he was going to be, he knew that the landlord would not screw him over, well at least not to much.

Unbelievable, Jennifer couldn't believe she was standing in front of the door of her new apartment. Three boxes resting on the ground right next to her left leg as her hand reached out to knock on the hard door. Truth be told, she barely knew anything about this apartment, or about her roommate. When she found this apartment on the Internet, her old laptop didn't load the pictures. The only information that was given about the apartment was the description and the name of her roommate: Jesse. Figuring it was a woman, Jennifer decided to move to this apartment. At least for now.

But what was the reason that made her move out from the first place? Finishing her two years of university in France, Jennifer could now open her small art store, just like she always wanted. Her plan was to sell her paintings and sculptures, but she also designed a lot of home decoration. So her decision was to go back to her favorite country and open her business there, one of her main reason was because she wanted to speak English. For Jennifer, French was a bit difficult and she prefered to speak English. Her parents were in Miami, her best friend was living with her boyfriend so she had no option but to move to the unknown apartment.

Obviously she wasn't feeling calm about it. Her friend told her to wait for more opportunities but unfortunately, Jennifer didn't have the time to wait. As she stood in front of the large door, her heart beat began to race with every second. She could feel how nervous she was because her hands began to sweat slightly. Taking a deep breath, Jennifer closed her eyes only for a brief moment until she opened them. Her knuckles knocked on the door three times before she lowered her hand. Jennifer didn't receive the key because the landlord told that she needed to get the key from the roommate so she could duplicate it.

Jesse jumped a bit when he heard the sudden knock, all of the cleaning he did tired him out more than he thought and almost caused him to fall asleep. By the time the knocks had stopped he had already hopped off the couch and rushed to the door, but took a moment to jump back in front of the living room mirror and check his cloths and hair, first impressions are everything right? As he walked to the front door he took a deep breathe before reaching out to open the door. "Welcome to the-..." Jesse paused in mid sentence when he saw who was on the other side of the door. It took less than half a second for him to recognize the face of the the girl just outside the threshold, the girl who broke his heart and disappeared without a trace, the girl named Jennifer Brooks. With the rest of the second left after his brain registered the other person as Jennifer, Jesse quickly shut the door in her face, unintentionally of course due purely from the shock. Confused and thought to be dreaming, the young man pinched himself on the cheek to make sure he really did not fall asleep, understandably the only thing he could see this as was a dream, shamefully one he had thought about many times in the past. With an 'Ow' and red mark on his cheek he was sure that this was no dream but maybe a delusion. Leaving those thoughts aside, he slowly opened the door to check again only to swiftly close it once again. This time he was sure that the girl standing outside his door really was Jennifer. Frustrated, he frantically rubbed his hands through his hair while making a fairly loud grunting sound. He started to wonder the worse, was his new roommate dating the girl he once loved and she is helping him move in, even worse that she could not even move with him to college years ago. In distress Jesse sunk down to the floor as he thought about what he could say, seeing as he as surely made the whole situation awkward by slamming the door in her face not once, but twice no less than three minutes apart. He truly felt so sick to his stomach he thought that he might vomit any second now.

Lips pulled into a smile, Jennifer was ready to greet the person who will open the door. So many thoughts wandered in her head, most of her thoughts were about the person who will be living with her from now on. She just hoped this guy or woman wouldn't be a freak or weird. Taking a short breath, she waiting a few more seconds until the door was open. Lifting her gaze to the door, her brown eyes looked into the man's eyes. "He-..." She opened her mouth to speak and greet the person, but before she could say anything, the door slammed in her face. What just happened? Frowning lightly in confusion, Jennifer just stared at the closed door. "That's a really nice way to greet someone.." She leaned closer to speak through the door so her new roommate would hear her. Truth be told, she barely had enough time to take a look at how her roommate looked. His bright eyes were the only thing she saw.

When the door slowly opened for the second time, Jennifer raised her left eyebrow. She was wondering if he would slam the door again but this time, the two of them just looked at each other. He was much taller than her, he had a blonde hair, a pair of bright eyes, a nice soft looking beard and his arms were covered in tattoos. He was definitely good looking but he looked as if he just saw a ghost, causing Jennifer to wonder what happened. It was hard for her to recognize him, in fact Jennifer thought he was a complete stranger. She didn't realize it was her high school ex because he definitely changed, Jennifer always remembered him as the guy with the same height as her, smooth face with no beard and skinny. The guy who was standing in front of her now was completely different than the guy she knew, so it couldn't be possible.

"Hey.." She finally spoke, looking at the man just to see that he wasn't really pleased with seeing her. It seemed as if he was in pain or he was about to throw up, probably both. "Are you alright?" She asked as she took a step closer to the man, bending down so she could be at the same eye-level as him. "Do you want me to call some help? You're about to pass out." Jennifer started to worry, what if the man wasn't feeling well? She would probably have to do something in order to help him.

Jesse looked up at Jennifer as she got down to eye level with him, it took him a minute to register what she was saying and quickly shot up off the ground""Y-yeah. I'm fine~ really. No need to worry about me. Must have been something I ate?..." he said as a rushed explanation for his actions, but even he questioned it as he said it. Quickly he moved away from her, increasing the distance to a comfortable level as he kept his back to her. "Just put your stuff, you know, wherever." Jesse tone was not one of distant and uncaring. Truthfully he was lost in thought, wondering if she did not even recognize him, but sadly his mind went strait to the idea that she was so ok with the breakup that she did not have any reaction to seeing him.

Jesse slowly turned his head to face her again, she honestly looked the same she did in high school, though he was unsure if that was his eyes speaking or his heart that should have been lost a long time ago. As he started to rub his chin, he realized that he had grown his beard out since the breakup. With that notion in mind, he looked at his arms and remembered his new tattoos that decorated his body. As he took a moment to look over the situation, he realized that he had changed a lot in the years they had been apart. Jesse smiled slightly at the unfortunate event that showed itself and started to rub the back of his head, still facing away from Jennifer, "There is only one bathroom that links the bedrooms. The bedrooms are upstairs, yours is the empty one obviously." he nervously spoke as he started to walk away and head towards the kitchen.

Lifting her eyebrow at the man who stood in front of her, she watched how awkward he was. Almost reminding her of someone,he had the same awkwardness and body language just the guy she dated at highschool. "Alright." Jennifer turned around, bending down to pick two boxes and leaving the one outside because it was too heavy before moving inside. Following after the man into the apartment, Jennifer began to look around. Her eyes darted everywhere, seeing how the whole apartment looked. It was clean and pretty large for two people, which was good. Truth be told, Jennifer thought the apartment will look like s**t, after all she never saw it before. But seeing it now, made her feel more calm.

"Ok, thanks." She looked over at Jesse who headed to the kitchen before turning to the stairs, she went up the stairs as she carried the large boxes. Watching her steps so she won't trip or something.Once she was on the second floor, Jennifer accidentally turned to the wrong direction and walked into Jesse room. It was a bit messy but mostly looked like a simple room. Turning around, Jennifer went to the other way. This time, the bedroom was empty. It had enough space for her things, the bed was large and seemed very comfortable, there was even a window that showed the beautiful view of the city. "I'm going to get the rest of my things, so I'm going to leave the door open for now." Jennifer called loud enough, hopefully he heard her. Bending down, Jennifer dropped the two large boxes onto the floor. After that, she quickly made her way downstairs and exited from the apartment.

Jennifer returned and exited from the apartment at least four times, every time she returned with two- three boxes and exited from the apartment with empty hands. The whole process of moving up and down the three floors was tiring, mostly because she was a lazy person. That was also one of the reasons why she hated to move, she hated the process of moving all the things.Eventually she grabbed the last box that was lying in the vehicle, Jennifer headed up the stairs. The jacket she was wearing was very warm and all the moving made her sweaty, drops of sweat appeared on her forehead. Jennifer could even feel small drops dripping down her lower back, mentioning a small note for herself to take a shower after she's done with this.

Once she entered into the apartment, Jennifer kicked lightly the door to close it before moving up stairs. Placing the last box in there. Now the whole room was filled with brown boxes. Obviously she wasn't in the mood to unpack everything right away, instead, she removed her jacket and threw it on the empty bed. Heading downstairs to the first floor, Jennifer made her way to the kitchen. Just then, she moved past Jesse and glanced at the tattoos on his arms. This time, taking a better look at them. "Nice tats." Jennifer was always scared to do a tattoo but she did love them, for her, tattoos were beautiful. As soon as she got to the kitchen, Jennifer filled a glass with some cold water before drinking it. "By the way, I'm Jennifer. What's your name?" Not recognizing the guy at all.

Jesse gave her a slightly awkward smile and sighed while she ran back and forth to get her boxes. A part of him felt bad for letting a girl do all of the heavy lifting and running around, but at the same time he was happy that she was having to do all of that. For a moment he peaked out the kitchen to see all the boxes and groaned slightly not liking the mess she was making after he had to clean after his former roommate and his messes. Silently he hoped she would actually throw away the boxes, but then shook his head and changed his wish to her leaving and not coming back.

As he returned to the kitchen, he opened the fridge and got himself a coke and started to get out all the necessary items to make himself one hell of a sandwich. The sudden realization that Jennifer was talking to him startled him a bit, honestly not used to hearing the voice of the woman who broke his heart so many years ago to be back into his life. He turned towards her with a more friendly smile before speaking, "Well you can just call me M.J. everyone does. Nice to meet you...Jennifer." he said before turning around back to the counter he was working on. Mentally, he was beating himself up for telling her a nickname he got soon after high school with the new group of friends he was around instead of just telling her who he was. Then a thought crossed his mind, maybe this was for the best. If she forgot him, even if it was so long ago and a few changes, maybe she didn't deserve to know. Maybe this could be a fun way to get her back and at the very least get a few laughs out of it. Now with a change of heart he started to hum as he got some bread, "So are you new in town or lived close by?" he asked as he continued with his mission to make a great sandwich, now reaching back into the fridge to grab a variety of different meats to put on it.

"M.J. Nice to meet you. I hope we will get along." The tips of her lips pulled into a friendly smile. Placing the empty glass onto the counter, Jennifer lifted her eyes to look at the man who was standing near her. At first she just looked at him, but the more she looked the more he reminded her of someone from the past. Shaking her head at the impossible thought, Jennifer poured herself another glass of water.

"You could say I'm new." She replied before explaining herself. Refilling the empty glass with water, Jennifer stared at the pouring water. It looked as if she was very concentrated on her task to fill the glass but, truth was, she was just thinking about the past. "When I was younger, I lived here. I had to move abroad because of my parents, but I dropped out of university so I returned to here." Jennifer didn't want to explain any further than this because Jesse was just a stranger to her, she shouldn't tell him about her past. The reason she returned to this place was because her parents were too disappointed at her and didn't want to see her after she dropped out of university. Basically, she had no where to go but this town. After all, it was the town she grew in, she knows everything about this town. Besides, there are so many good memories from this town, it felt better to be here than to be in a foreign place

Once the glass was full, Jennifer grabbed the glass and turned around so her back was leaning against the counter."What about you? Have you lived here for a long time?" She spoke, asking out of curiosity before drinking the water.
