Name: Torrey Moore

Nickname: None. Duke if you played football with him.

Age: 24

Birthday: April 15th

Sign: Aires

Gemstone: Diamond

Blood Type: AB+

Fav. Food: Chinese take-out

Hated Food: Salads

School: DCU, looking to become a Historian

Hobbies

Research -- There is something Torrey really enjoys about losing himself on researching just about any topic, but particularly history. As a kid with a really demanding family life, he used his studies as a way to get away from it all, and distance himself from everything, so the deep dark bowels of a library or the internet has become his safe, happy, place.
Public Speaking -- Having been a member of just about any prestigious club through out high school, and a member of the debate club in college, it is safe to say Torrey enjoys being up on stage, making his voice heard. Which is kind of important, as he really didn't have much of a voice at home, with demanding parents who inflicted their will upon him.
Historical Reenactment -- Particularly the viking era, which is also his preferred area of historical study. He is part of a group that gets together monthly to put on displays, much like your more run-of-the-mill Civil War Reenactments, as well as participating in the local annual Renaissance Festival. He is also part of a much smaller friend group that is focused on Tolkein-verse reenactment.
Crafting -- Something he picked up from his Reenactment hobby, he actually enjoys metal-crafting and has his own backyard home-made work station making rudimentary swords, daggers, and the like. He is gradually getting in to leather-crafting as well. He also does all his own embroidery work on his costumes,

Virtues

Studious -- Torrey has always been gifted in academics, and takes to most subjects like a duck to water, but still works hard on his studies. He has an admirable dedication and ability to focus on academia that sets him apart from many. He can often display a vast amount of knowledge on most academic subjects, particularly history, sociology, and government.
Charismatic -- Torrey is no doubt your classic good-looking jock with the gift of gab. He has a natural ability to talk in a way that people find entertaining or persuasive, even when he is totally bullshitting. He could sell ice to an eskimo, so to speak. He has such a confident delivery of his words that it's easy to believe what he is saying is right and true. One also really needs to read between the lines with him, as he says more than the words he speaks, much of the time.
Like Water Off a Duck's Back -- Over the course of his life time, Torrey has been called and accused of so much, it doesn't really affect him anymore. He'll laugh it off and carry on, head held all the higher. After all, name-calling and rumor-spreading is the lowest form of provocation, and he will not lower himself to the challenge.

Flaws

Lone Wolf -- As a child, Torrey was raised to believe he was better than everyone, and in order to live up to his parent's ideal he acted like he did. Eventually he began to really believe it. No one was ever good enough to be much more than an 'asset'. He was always that 'fair weather friend,' who was there when things were good, and when someone had something to offer him, but when the tides turned, he was gone. He never learned how to make a friend, or what true friendship really is.
I Find Your Lack of Common Sense Disturbing -- Torrey doesn't deal well with the stupidity of others. Also he has a problem understanding that what may be common sense to him, may not be common sense to everyone else. And this leads to a lot of frustration, and patience isn't his strong point when it comes to 'stupidity.' He tends to get very short with the offender, and is left with a rather fowl and 'holier than thou' mood for a good while thereafter.
Politically Correct? Hell no! -- Torrey hates this whole 'politically correct' stuff with a flaming passion. Offended? GOOD. He really doesn't care if you get offended by what he says, he's not going to dance around your delicate sensibilities. Because of this, he tends to upset a lot of people, and he is very unapologetic about it. The way he thinks about it is, 'If you can't take the heat, I don't want you in my kitchen!' When he is making speeches, this often gives some shock value that makes him...certainly a memorable speaker.

The snow covered and seemingly inhospitable lands of Polaris hide a wealth in minerals beneath the surface. The star's economy is supported entirely off of the wealth of its metal deposits (both common and precious metals) and this leaves most of it's citizens the time to persue other interests. There is a moderate amount of study in technology involving magnets and magnetism, and the borrowed technologies of other planets. Most Polarians, however, are scholars with a particular interest in sociology and social anthropolgy. They enjoy studying all the other planets and stars around them, both to keep tabs on what is going on, and to borrow ideas. Polarians were often dubbed, sometimes unfondly, as the busybodies of the galaxy.

The society of Polaris in general has a very 'work first, play later' mentality and knights were expected to be dedicated both to their jobs and the ideals of the star. Though allowed to have lives outside their duties, knights that were particularly silly or goofed off often would find themselves quickly asked to leave. While they were expected to keep up to date with the studies and findings on the homestar, Polarian knights spent more of their time on good will missions to other stars. Whether they were overseeing trade, offering aid and assistance, discussing alliances, or not so subtely trying to push off technology and culture onto 'primitive' stars Polarian knights and their princess most commonly played the role of diplomat. Knights were nonetheless expected to keep fit and trained in case the need for battle should arise.

Despite being covered in snow some hardy plant and animal life covered a majority of the star with citizens all living in the cities scattered around star. Cities were towering metal structures lit up with electricity, but the interiors were a bit more welcoming. Building decor had a sense of grandness including, wide sweeping stairways, elegant gardens, and huge open rooms.

Sintashta on Earth;

The Sintashta culture, also known as the Sintashta-Petrovka culture or Sintashta-Arkaim culture, is a Bronze Age archaeological culture of the northern Eurasian steppe on the borders of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, dated to the period 2100–1800 BCE. The earliest known chariots have been found in Sintashta burials, and the culture is considered a strong candidate for the origin of the technology, which spread throughout the Old World and played an important role in ancient warfare. Sintashta settlements are also remarkable for the intensity of copper mining and bronze metallurgy carried out there, which is unusual for a steppe culture.

Characteristics
Extensive copper and bronze metallurgy
Fortified settlements
Elaborate weapon burials
Earliest known chariots

The Sintashta culture emerged from the interaction of two antecedent cultures. Its immediate predecessor in the Ural-Tobol steppe was the Poltavka culture, an offshoot of the cattle-herding Yamnaya horizon that moved east into the region between 2800 and 2600 BCE. Several Sintashta towns were built over older Poltovka settlements or close to Poltovka cemeteries, and Poltovka motifs are common on Sintashta pottery. Sintashta material culture also shows the influence of the late Abashevo culture, a collection of Corded Ware settlements in the forest steppe zone north of the Sintashta region that were also predominantly pastoralist. The first Sintashta settlements appeared around 2100 BCE, during a period of climatic change that saw the already arid Kazakh steppe region become even more cold and dry. The marshy lowlands around the Ural and upper Tobol rivers, previously favoured as winter refuges, became increasingly important for survival. Under these pressures both Poltovka and Abashevo herders settled permanently in river valley strongholds, eschewing more defensible hill-top locations. The Abashevo culture was already marked by endemic intertribal warfare; intensified by ecological stress and competition for resources in the Sintashta period, this drove the construction of fortifications on an unprecedented scale and innovations in military technique such as the invention of the war chariot. Increased competition between tribal groups may also explain the extravagant sacrifices seen in Sintashta burials, as rivals sought to outdo one another in acts of conspicuous consumption analogous to the North American potlatch tradition.

The Sintashta economy came to revolve around copper metallurgy. Copper ores from nearby mines (such as Vorovskaya Yama) were taken to Sintashta settlements to be processed into copper and arsenical bronze. This occurred on an industrial scale: all the excavated buildings at the Sintashta sites of Sintashta, Arkaim and Ust'e contained the remains of smelting ovens and slag. Much of this metal was destined for export to the cities of the Bactria–Margiana Archaeological Complex (BMAC) in Central Asia. The metal trade between Sintashta and the BMAC for the first time connected the steppe region to the ancient urban civilisations of the Near East: the empires and city-states of Iran and Mesopotamia provided an almost bottomless market for metals. These trade routes later became the vehicle through which horses, chariots and ultimately Indo-Iranian-speaking people entered the Near East from the steppe.
