The moon shown bright in the night sky. Its soft, silvery beams illuminated everything across the Kawani lands, casting faint shadows over the earth to provide an ethereal essence. A gentle breeze wafted through the trees as the sounds of rippling water drifted in from the distance, adding to the peace and calm of the night.
It is a wonderful night for a walk. Eve Drekk admired the beauty of nature as she made her way through the forest. It had only been a month or so since she had made her home of this land, having taken up residence within her brother's cave system. Bit by bit, she had set about exploring the system and its surrounding lands so that she might learn the area and forego becoming lost. There had been some missteps along the way but, slowly and surely, Eve was finding her way.
Having explored most of the immediate area, Eve had decided to broaden her explorations to the surrounding forest and stream. It would be a longer trek than her others- a roundtrip total of four hours- but she didn't mind. The fullness of the harvest moon called to her, beckoning her to travel amongst the fallen leaves and old souls of the woods. Adventure hung in the chilly autumn air and Eve, though she didn't know what lay ahead, was all too happy to indulge in it.

Shahar had always loved the night. Could be something subconscious, could just be something genuine in the cool, quiet dark. She could remember all too well nights spent with her mother, father, and Taurus; nights spent with her grandmother, Selene. Leaning to catch lightning-bugs, and Haita's quick paws painting their juices on her hide to make her glow, oh so briefly.
She flew against the stars, one of them for a brief moment; The alicorn's tail streamed out after her like a flag. She would probably have to return to the two-legger's teepee soon, but dawn was still many hours away. She could fudge the time some, she was certain. After all- she wasn't a child anymore.
Landing alongside the stream, she dipped her head to take a deep, quick drink. And then she moved over the one of the trees, half fallen from its place in the wood, and plopped herself down next to it with only a half-watchful eye. In the dark of the night, she easily missed the dark black and purple body of another mare.
80% of the Soquili she lived with would be horrified by her complete disregard for her personal safety and ignorance of her surroundings.
Kaya Wolf Moon I wasn't sure how big Eve was, so I didn't want to assume she was full-size. smile This makes sense!

The sound of a feminine voice joined the babble of the brook, and Shahar's ears swiveled, though she didn't move from her place. This was her home, or close to it, and she had wings to escape in a worst-case scenario. but as the voice spoke again, louder and closer, she didn't quite think there was much to worry about. Evil wasn't usually worried about their siblings being angry they got lost. Or so she assumed anyway- she didn't have much experience with evil.
"Hello." Shahar didn't turn her head, instead pushing to her feet and stamping the dirt from one foreleg first, her star-shimmered foreleg and bright white foot catching briefly. Turning her head at last, she peered at the black and purple... flutter-kirin? With glowing eyes. Not the oddest thing she had ever seen, by any means. The glowing, that was. The rest of it was very normal, even down to the mare's diminutive stature and transparent wings. It made her think of her grandmother, actually, just less... colorful.
Tilting her head, she shuffled closer to the smaller female. "I didn't mean to eavesdrop on your situation, but sounds like you might be a bit lost." she punctuated the sentence with a soft laugh. "Do you need some help trying to find your way around?"

Grinning, Shar shook her head, skunk-striped mane bouncing. "I used to get myself lost all the time." The mare's head ducked and Shar tempered her amusement, well-versed in the signs of embarrassment. "Though I would like to warn you- we don't have many problems with skinwalkers, our lands are small but very well-patrolled for safety, but there are other predators in the night." A sad fact, but one that was very true. And in fact, she did feel compelled to warn the other female- "Including several of my harmlessly bumbling herdmates. Maybe not predators, but dangerous to a girl's ego."
She bowed carelessly over one leg in a bow. "Well, Eve Drekk, I am Shahar. I'll be your escort home this evening, it would seem." Lifting back up easily, she tilted her head towards the other mare. "So. tell me a little more about what you remember from how you got here, and what your brother's abode looks like. We can see what we can find. And enjoy a chat while we walk."

It pleased Shahar very much that she had been able to wrangle a laugh from her new companion; Laughter was good, both for those who were ill and those who were lost. And for the bored. And for the everyone, really. (Anyone who didn't like to laugh at least a little, and even at oneself, was wrong.) However, Eve Drekk did not laugh for long, shifting her stance to one of observation and consideration. The other mare must be new indeed to the area, and Shahar was most pleased that she would be able to help a stranger in need! Her striped mail swished as she waited patiently, turning her head to look in the same direction as the black-and-purple female.
A fork in a dirty, dusty path, wrapped around, or split by, a boulder much akin to a dagger- albeit a rather sadistic and soulless dagger, so much as any inanimate dagger had a soul. Which as the boulder itself was being used to split a soul, somewhat indicated that the bouldagger was not, in itself, a soul... But as a dagger was theoretically unable to split a soul, given that a dagger was physical and a soul was not, what, then, did that make the boulder?? Yet moving on; A twisted tree with an apparent inclination for the murder of innocent, inattentive passerby. Not exactly a tree after her own heart! It wasn't even just 'murder', but 'happily murder'. There was something terribly wrong with that tree- Possibly with that entire section of forest.
Though the thought of such personality being given to something that didn't have any inclination toward motion of its own volition was a bit... unique to her. Shahar wouldn't go so far as to say it was odd, because the definition of that word was certainly dependent upon the thoughts and opinions of the speaker. But she would, however, call it unique, since she had never before the opportunity to meet someone who gave such life to the world around them simply by whim or by accident. Or, as she indicated shortly thereafter, by... design?
Tossing her head Shahar hastened to reassure her companion, who was seeming almost embarrassed. “There is absolutely nothing to forgive, I assure you! It is a very creative way to remember something as mundane as a path. One passes them by so frequently, and in a new place it can be easy to forget. Your method is very interesting! And creative- I doubt many people would think about it as they walk by a location. They sound very distinct! I think the only danger is in me blowing them up in my head and missing them entirely because I think that a certain gnarled tree isn't malicious enough to happily thunk me on the head.”
Reaching out with one hoof, Shar tossed Eve Drekk a playful wink. “If you think you will be able to identify the correct split in the path, I think I know of one not far from here that we could follow in the correct direction.”
Kaya Wolf Moon WC: 511. No worries about taking a while, the holidays hit me like a wrecking ball. I was sick the first half of December, and Christmas took up the last half. And thank you- I'm excited!

The other mare's reassurances set Eve at ease. It had been a sad truth about her life that not many others perceived her odd notions to be so creative. Most of her travel companions had been unable to stomach her descriptions and so had drifted away over time.
The only one capable of dealing with them had been her bonded Familiar. A wiry and impulsive little Ferret, Eve had stumbled across him in her travels. He had found her utterly intriguing and so, going on a whim, had decided to bond himself to her. Eve did not mind it since she had longed for the company of another as her search for her brother continued along. As it stood now, Wraith had chosen to stay behind at her brother's cave in order to help procure accommodations of his own. She remembered that he had asked her if she wished him to come along, but she reassured him that it would be unnecessary. The Ferret had- after some back and forth- reluctantly agreed to let her wander on her own. I suppose Wraith's instincts are better than mine...
Eve shook the random thought away as Shahar tossed a playful wink in her direction. Her glowing eyes softened and she felt a faint, almost imperceptible tug on her heart. Ah well, if he had come along then I wouldn't have gotten lost...And I likely wouldn't have met this mare. Aloud, with laughter resonating in her tone, she stated, "You'd be surprised at how many malicious trees there are among the forests. Trees can be some of the most cunning and vicious implements of nature if you let them be." She cast a surreptitious glance around before moving closer to Shahar, her voice lowering to a whisper as if to share a deep secret. "It's because they're so mundane looking. Nobody takes them seriously." An added wink indicated that she wasn't being completely serious on the matter.
Lifting her head up again, Eve tossed Shahar a broad grin. "As for the path, I am certain I can identify it once I see it again. It's merely the act of getting there that is the troublesome part for me. To be honest, it is one of the more embarrassing aspects of my life. I have no troubles with directions if they are told to me. However,” Eve snorted sharply as if to laugh at herself. “I’ve been made completely, and sometimes painfully, aware of just how easily I tend to get lost without said direc—“ The purple and black mare let the rest of the sentence die on her lips, realizing that she had rambling for no apparent reason. “But you’re not here to listen to me prattle on about my directional challenges. More to the point- yes, if you can show me the path, I can tell you whether it is the correct one or not."
Infinities I understand that completely. The same thing sort of happened to me but in a reverse way. Family did Christmas early this year and then I got sick over the actual holiday. x3 *EDIT* Sorry for the second notice, Infinities. Wanted to add in something real fast. smile WC total is 484

Shahar gave a laugh, leaning in towards the flutter mare in a friendly way. "Trees, right? You can never trust them to just stay solid and shady anymore." her heart was bright with amusement, and she hoped that her enjoyment showed clearly. It was such good fortune that she would find someone to spend some time with, even if they were unfortunately lost. And if anyone asked why she was late coming back, she had a valid excuse. making a friend outside their small groupwas a wonderful opportunity. "You'll have to tell me more. I'm nowhere near that creative." her life was so.... solid. She didn't have Scherazade's talent for stories. (She'd probably get along fantastically with Eve.)
"Are we sure the path won't up and walk away?" she turned the tables, grinning back at the dark mare. "If you think trees aren't taken seriously, can you imagine the life of a path? At least trees are admired. Everyone just steps on paths all day. One day, they are going to rise up and rebel." Shahar tried to nod seriously, but it wasn't possible! She was having far too much fun to be serious.
Shaking her head, she finally settled. "Everyone gets a bit turned around at night. It's a confusing area. Don't worry!"
