A door made of violet swirling energies seemed to generate itself in the garden. First the outline, then hinges, and eventually the ornate panels and knob took shape; and from them was the most basic of functionalities as it swung open to reveal a slightly irritated Janus. The flowers beneath her feet knew not whether to bow in respect of turn and cower, and so wilted in melancholic fashion into the cooling ground (apparently there were seasons here too).
It was clear the goddess of doors was waiting anxiously for something as a foot tapped out an angry letter in some mole language understood by the lowliers as binary and therefor taken easily with the natural computer known as the human brain. It was the type of day you could hear them echo in the words of each gopher or chipmunk waiting for a sign, for the pounding to stop, but above there was only a surplus of sighs and weights shifts out of time with not only the tapping but the scene as well; this was a place of relaxation! ... But the greener ferns didn't seem to mind. They were therapists in their own right, and they had only exuberance to return in accordance with the reversals of heterotrophs to autotrophic creatures. It was so that each sigh was a breath in, and each curse or condemnation or remorseful reflection was the sweet serum of eutrophication under the approaching moon. Wrapped in cellophane, it held no pity for the world as it came to record, to prod, to illuminate the night and in the conversations become sunlight. Janus' face couldn't show this yet; suppose it was a little early to be romantic.
Fathom soared over the garden, surveying the area for a sutible landing space. They slowly decended, stirring up a strong wind with the flapping of their wings. They dropped, creating a thump. Their wings folded back as they shifted into their human-like appearance. Glancing around for other signs of life, they bagan to walk. "Hello? Is anyone else here?" They called out, even though they felt maybe they were speaking only to trees. They stepped around one particular tree just in time to see a great door shimmering in front of them. 'Woaah.'

It was a moment after this introspective jetlag had taken its course that Janus had departed from that riverboat of daydreams to notice someone had been standing there, presumably for a while, right in front of her! She shook her head, and in an instant the door dispersed with a visual, not an audible, poof.
"Hi... Uh, how long have you been watching me?" More than embarrassed, the color you cheeks turned in that moment were mismatched with the season just as she felt she was with the scene. Suddenly the back of her head was itchy.
Fathom flushed slightly and waved their hands in front of them rapidly. "I-I wasn't watching you, promise! I just got here." They quickly replied. They then pointed to the empty space behind the woman. "Was there just a giant door there?" Fathom gasped quickly. "Ah! I-I'm From-Deepest-Understanding. B-but people usually just call me Fathom." They stepped forward, smiling, and stuck out their hand to the woman.

A breeze prompted the goddess to brush her hair back, and like one of those peekaboo face changes she was smiling on the other side of the hand's eclipse. The same hand, as if it needed something to do on the way, whipped around to take Fathom's hand in a semi-hurried handshake; to be seen as such only in the way a wise but busy adult might try to rush the anxiety out of a teen.
"Janus," said the androgyne with a smile. "... You can stare a little if you want, you know--at my doors I mean!" A little giggle as she let go of Fathom's hand.
"... You ok? New here?" Now worry. She hadn't the time to train; moreover it was discomforting to this of newer divinities; in the way that it was stressful in more ways than one to memorise new royalty for the nobles, wherever they are.
Fathom nodded slightly as they shook her hand. "It's nice to meet you, Janus." "I-I'm not really new. I've just usually gone unnoticed...for a long time...until now." They smiled slightly and rubbed the back of their head. "Where there is guilt, there's me." They thought with a slight p***k in their chest. Being a god had it's perks, but Fathom truly believed they had the short end of the stick. Constant heartache and raging guilt weren't nearly enough to make being a god worth it.

"Oh, man, you're sure?" Janus couldn't help giggling a little. "You're so nervous though!" She took a step closer to get a good look (listen) at the god, held that uncomfortable distance for a moment, and backed off to begin her analysis.
"You're sure you're a god? I mean, I suppose I'll take your word for it, but gods are supposed to be--I don't know" arm waving in the air as a pen running out of ink "--confident! The mortals use it as a negative--you know, 'god complexes'--but I really see it as one of our better features..." Her gaze was inescapable. If Fathom didn't notice her eyes before then it would be all but impossible to notice them now as she stood, hand in chin, with those foggy bowls of raw curiosity locked onto the shy god.
Fathom gulped and resisted stepping backward. They stared into the hazy eyes, realizing then that the woman couldn't see. "I-I promise, I am a god. I'm just that of g-guilt." They stammered out. Usually people didn't question their status. They nervously pulled on the collar of their cloak. "Sh-should I really be more c-confident?" 'But how?' Fathom looked down at their small frame partially engulfed in the oversized cloak before one thing clicked. "I-I am a dragon." They stated, attempting confidence upon speaking of their huge and graceful, fear-striking form.

"Oh yeah? Maybe you should flaunt that more often." Janus was smiling just thinking of how a shy dragon might look. "I don't know if I believe you, though, so you might have to show me, Mr. Dragon."
"Sh-show you?"Fathom stuttered. This was an unusually rare request. Generally, nobody asked (much less demanded) to see their dragon form. "Ah...y-you might want to step back." Just as a precaustion for themself, they stepped backward.

The goddess of doors nodded, still smirking, and took a couple steps back. She typically knew gods to transform into other forms, including dragons, but for one to have such a shape as their base form was something really unique.
"Ok~! Whenever you're ready!" Not only that, but it was equally fun to see someone come out of their shell.
Fathom held out their arms, which became wings as their body grew in size and shifted. Their hair curled upward into horns and the scales growing from their skin took on a magenta hue. They lifted their head and let out a column of steam echoing with a roar in an ancient and powerful tongue. They leaned back down, resting the joint of their wings on the ground infront of them and bringing their head down to look at Janus at eye level.

Janus was actually fairly impressed with it all, even talking another step back in reflex as the dragon came to look her in the eye. Mouth slightly agape, she clapped a couple times, and then began to smile.
"That's great! You hide this? Why?" She was practically jumping up and down looking at Fathom. She was waving her pointing finger up and down to showcase for the dragon all its inherent glory.
Fathom would have flushed had they still had pale skin. "It's a huge form. And really noticeable. It's not good for staying unnoticed." They spoke softly but their deep voice still rumbled the ground around them. Their usual stutter had disappeared, as well as the pang of constant guilt. "And my mortal kin do not roam Earth's skies any longer. This form is, as humans say, 'extinct'."
