Personality
Panili Synemn’s peculiarities are a wonder of circumstance. On a surface level she has the trappings of a rebellious soul or an anti-establishment firebrand, but her visions of grandeur go deep. Panili intends to buck living an Alternian life altogether—trolls, after all, are a nasty race. Lofty ideals and a pragmatic attitude make up the bedrock of this mountain-dwelling troll.
A childhood of isolation left Panili to her own devices more often than not. Growing up on the peaks of Busthind, Panili had to adapt quickly to the cold climate, and even more critical had to learn what she could from her lusus. Unfortunately, learning from Shmothma turned out to be as demanding as the mountain lifestyle. Shmothma’s lack of intelligence and hostility were a combination that left Panili wanting – not understanding the parental connection that a lusus should have with its troll. Her efforts to feed her child were often gratuitous – bringing Panili dead, dying and live animals horrified her child. A violent protective instinct drove off possible friendships for her child, and the limited communication the two shared was crushing. Even as she grew, Panili’s difficulties communicating with her lusus resulted in the feeling of seclusion from other trolls. She was not content with the mere survival mechanisms her lusus presented her – and Panili’s curiosity has stemmed from this and has grown ever since. Unfortunately, interest in knowledge necessitated Panili emerging from her mountaintop hive and traveling to interact with troll culture. The result? Horrifying.
Trolls reflect the worst aspects of her lusus. She feels as though a predisposition to violence is akin to being a feral beast, and trolls must rise above their nature to be truly intelligent and enlightened. No matter the troll, the societal expectation is for all individuals to become soldiers – warriors – killers, simply for the reason that trolls should capitalize on their inner nature. Every bit of media that trolls consume projects this message: Trolls are naturally destructive. The hemospectrum is merely something that facilitates this fact. Panili doesn’t necessarily mind the hemospectrum as a way to keep order and will generally respond as politely and matter-of-factly to a lowblood as a highblood she meets. In fact, if the hemospectrum results in protecting the lower castes and maintaining an efficient system, there are plenty of doors open for lowbloods like her. However, abuses of power are a concern dear to her as well as the unacceptably cruel nature of Alternian Conquest. Panili truly believes that Alternia does not have a right to seize other planets by force, and will do everything in her power to dissuade this certain future from re-occurring. As far as Panili is concerned, there is no reason for trolls to be a malicious race. Capitalizing on the nature of trolls is a means to control the populace like a violent cult.
Panili’s attitude towards troll life has shaped her entire existence on Alternia. She is committed to raising awareness about her cause, and desires to gain a following to make a difference. Panili’s confidence in herself stems from her firm beliefs and in her own growth as a troll, learning and thriving when the odds were against her. Her self-confidence translates into ambition and a love of canvassing and learning about other troll’s experiences. She finds her trips to the cities enlightening and exciting, but her relative lack of social connections and over-protective lusus have led her to stumble over herself when interacting with others. She has a love of “grown-up” talk and generally considers like-minded trolls to be recruits to her cause rather than friends. She does feel close to trolls, but on an intellectual level – feeling weak or needing help from a friend makes Panili feel uncomfortable in a way she can’t quite place. Simply being able to commiserate with trolls and utilize others for a common goal is what she identifies as being true friendship – anything else is frivolous. Because of this, she has a very hard time cutting loose and doing recreational things. Every interaction must have a purpose! She has goals, dang it!
Another source of anxiety for Panili comes from her grub-given abilities. She manifests a psychic power that emerged during wigglerhood: that of future sight. Panili has the power to see short snippets of the very recent future – only a few seconds directly in front of her, for the most part. Any visions farther in the future are an odd amalgamation, and are very difficult to make sense out of - she doesn't like to talk about or acknowledge these. This has caused her ideas and thoughts to become very disorganized, and considering she has a difficult time controlling the power at this point in her life she will frequently stumble over words and become disoriented during these periods while trying to change or match the outcome of her vision. Living on Busthind has made this power equally burdensome! Panili has had many scrapes from stepping off a few rock faces here and there, and tries to take her life slowly so that she doesn’t get into trouble if she’s having a moment. She likes to collect walking sticks to help her down the mountain, and enjoys walking as a general hobby where she can clear her head and think.
This orangeblood’s preferred hobbies are things she considers useful to her: meditation for restfulness, health and peace of mind. Political and media analysis, field trips into the city, reading, socializing and learning! Panili takes a huge amount of joy in doing tedious activities. She has a gentle nature and generally turns up her nose at more active adventures, being a refined sort of troll. Typical children’s activities and Alternian bloodsport are petty to Panili, but her lack of knowledge of these things is more embarrassing to her than her dislike of them. She’s not very good at cutting loose, and this is a source of self-doubt that she refuses to touch.

Strengths & Flaws
Strengths: Agreeable: Panili is a gentle natured individual who truly cares about her fellow Alternians, but she is no push-over. She intends to avoid trouble and get ahead by being polite and facilitating others, and in doing so she is able to defuse situations and stay in good graces. Her empathy towards all trolls allows her to be an open ear which can assist her in staying alert to the social climate.
Pragmatic: Knowledge is key for Panili, and she spends much of her time researching troll life to make a better case for herself and her cause. She is able to use her learning abilities to pick up information quickly and retain it so that she can use it later for any number of things.
Passionate: Ideals and the Alternian future are Panili’s main focus, and she would have thrown in the towel long ago if she wasn’t so driven to push her principles into the spotlight. When Panili is passionate about something, whether it an idea, a partnership or a new inspiration, she puts her whole effort towards making it the best it can be. She is driven and optimistic towards her passions which adds to her fortitude even in the face of failure.
Flaws: Hypocritical: While Panili considers her actions to be above other trolls (and often, herself above other trolls), she is willing to overlook any slights she commits against other trolls. Because her actions are for the greater good, she will bend her own rules to defend and progress what she feels is correct – justified by the fact that others are simply selfish. This attitude can get Panili into not only a moral quandary, but threaten her credibility. Panili denies that she is a “typical troll”, and in committing these actions she lacks empathy, understanding and (sometimes) logic towards the object of her slights which could easily endanger her.
Proud: Panili can’t be convinced that she’s wrong, and those who oppose her ideals are simply misguided. While her ideas are in the right place, her own ego can get in the way of opening her mind to others. She also has a very difficult time expressing that she may not be very good at certain things like physical activity or non-intellectual pastimes, and because of her pride simply refuses to take part and shuts herself off from potential social interactions. Her insecurity towards her own weaknesses causes her frequent strife.
Removed: Panili is a bit out of touch with the world. She consumes troll interactions via the media, books and lots of observation, but at this point in her life she has yet to master the art of socialization. With a lusus that doesn’t take kindly to strangers and a worldview that can skew pretentious if not treasonous, Panili doesn’t really understand how trolls generally interact as friends and will take her connections for granted. She tends to take more than she gets because she wants to further her cause and tends to use fellow “friends” as tools unwittingly, and while her intentions are good she has a hard time connecting to trolls who relish in typical Alternian hobbies and can easily push herself away.
