Finally a day off! *cracks knuckles* ok, let's do this.
Dirge of Cerberus was a significant change in style and unfortunately clashed quite hard with my sense of enjoyment. It's quite upsetting because I really enjoyed Vincent as a character. I was quite curious to learn more about his past and the love that developed between him and Lucrecia.
FF8's Ultimecia- One thing that shocked me about that game is final boss difficulty. All final fantasy end bosses up to the point had a level you could grind passed and easily over power. She increase your level as you do making her a more irritating at higher levels. I give her props for being a powerful female villain but I really didn't enjoy the convoluted time travel story line.
Final fantasy 6' Kefka : It's easy to draw the parallel that Kefka is what DC's The Joker would be if The Joker had super powers.
Final fantasy 7's Sephiroth: One big distinction I would make between Sephiroth and Kefka is one was made into a monster where the other was born. Kefka knows what it is to be a person and follow social norms to live a normal life. Losing that normality and having such power forced upon him well, the rules no longer applied. It kind of boils down to someone who believes they have ascended there station in life and driven mad by it vs someone to had come to realize they never belonged. We we got two extremes with these villains Kefka the vibrant side of insanity and Sephiroth the cold and misanthropic side. Both equally frightening in terms of serial killers.
Tactics: I will say in terms of FFVII I was a bit confused. Did you unlock Cloud? I obtained his final Limit break and was like huh? Cherry Blossom really? Where the check is my omnislash!
I enjoyed worker 8 a great deal!
I based characters off of D&D characters my friends had in a game I ran. It was fun seeing which character would turn out better then the other. Funny thing my friend ran a bard, which in D&D standers can be a bit under powered at low levels. Since bard is one of the last class to unlock in Tactics he became much more powerful then the other player character.
FF5 Faris: Oh yeah I can see how you would strong and brash female characters have been some of my favorite tropes. Brings to mind Calamity Jane, Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, and Revy (Rebecca Lee).
FF9: The art style was drastic. It was hard to look at Zidane looked more like he was 12 then 16. Generally I don't care to play RPG's who's main antagonist is adolescent. Child like naivety and the issues surrounding it get's old. It was charming once but after all the anime I have seen catering to that very formula if feel like i've seen it all. Which leads me to X.
FFX: How did you choke through Titus endless whining. Though I don't care for playing as child characters I expect whining from them. Titus far too grown to be insufferable im the center of the universe brat. I'm quite sure the supporting case was wonderful. if there was any reason I didn't get far into FFX it was Titus.
Dragon Quest/ Warrior: I have not had a chance to play the dragon quest games past 4. I do own dragon warrior 1-4 for the NES. I have beaten Dragon Warrior 1 and 2. I decidedly disliked 3 and never finished it. Four seemed like a great installment but I never got around to finishing it. I do like the idea of Akira toriyama art style featuring in the later dragon quest games. *sigh* so many classics to get to.
Breath of fire: Oh man these games hold a special place for me. Particularly breath of fire 3. Firstly I have never had to replace a game so many times! This is the game that made me re-think loaning any game to anyone. I had to replace it twice due to people never giving it back. I was so frustrated the first time seeing as I didn't beat the game myself before loaning it out. Other then that I loved Rei. Dispite him being difficult to manage at times (like Vincents final limit break) I kept him in my party. (boss goblin skill helped).
Breath of fire was an odd ending eh? It was strange fighting a goddess who cried nearly the entire time you attacked her. You know what your have to do and why but, seriously did they have to make you feel so bad about it?
I never had the chance to play breath of fire II. I have heard from many it was superior to the original. Given some of the quirky aspects of the original, I believe it.
I played BoF IV for a bit: Although I did enjoy the spell combination system it didn't capture my attention the way BoF 3 did. Unfortunately this was another game that some how went missing. go figure it turns out to be a rare game now. I think a lot of my friends growing up where A-holes. I can literately rattle off a list of games that been stolen. *huff* such is life.
Chrono-trigger: I have the game on the final fantasy Chronicles. Yet another game I have to add to mah bucket list.
Speaking of game bucket lists, I did start playing The Secret of Mana. I finally got a hold of a copy for the SNES. Based on people rave reviews of the game I couldn't wait to play it with a friend. Though the game play is entertaining I couldn't help but notice this game is totally made for kids. The bright colors and enemy sprites are well adorable. Some of the quests, really I have to seriously go save Santa claus? It is an experience. Multiplayer is so rare with platform RPGs.
Ooops kind of turned your Final fantasy topic into a classic RPG conversation.
Razer
Dirge of cerebus was alright but it was not my style.
but still played.
if i remember right in ff8 you can exchange the bahmut card for 100 mega elixers which i was forever forever ago and if you want to beat a game that adds to a very helpful option/easier option.
but being back near when when PS2 was released that was forever ago for me.
sweatdrop Kefka os a very entertaining villian he laughed killed LOTS of people.
Tore general leo a new one. Poisoned and killed Cyan's family
and that whole kingdom. he killed his emperor.
but with how graphics were back then the detail lacked.
but in terms of evil and insanity this man was a crazed maniac.
and he was an experiment gone wrong too
for magic s**t.
but sephiroth killing aerith in the disc 1 finale of ff7 is something players could never forget and many got teary.
Tactics I REALLY loved it really kept me entertained with the classes
and making myself the main character and my hired help a few friends.
and I loved a few of the characters. Orlandu and Agrias were awesome.
Meliadoul too (loved her green)
With V,Faris was MY FAVORITE she inspired me to be a gender bender! c:
I loved the game play. but of course you now know my fave character.
but like tactics i loved jobs and classes.
and I, is definitely a classic.
I think IX, took a bit to warm up to.
It was like omg final fantasy is changing looking realistic
then it went to a different style again.
regardless I gave it a try.
liked it.
X i liked also.
some of the newer ones i play just to play a final fantasy game i miss certain things about them.
VI, has a lot of neat things about it.
if you ever can play it IV is good old one to me.
but to many VI & VII will pwn that one, and the newer ones.
Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest (especially 5!) Breath of Fire I and III would be good old classic RPGs if you ever wanted to play.
Chrono trigger and DQ were brought back on DS several years back!
and thats how i got to play FF III for the first time in the US.
