"But I bet kids do! And you can't talk me out of it!" Ember pointed at her friend over her cup of coffee. All her at-home projects had been a complete bust. Every macaroni painting, every plant she tried to let thrive, heck, even every relationship she had pursued ended up in a bust. What was missing from her life? Ember had an idea.

One morning she woke up and realized ... it was a child. She didn't need a significant other, a familiar, or a plant to make her feel fulfilled. She needed a child. She WANTED a child. "I know you probably think it's ... a bit sudden. And that's fine." Ember watched her Geist friend a little nervously now, worried about their reaction after Ember's sudden outburst, desperately craving their approval. "But I really think I have a lot to offer! And I think ... I think I'd be a good mom!" Ember had bolted her eyes at the last part, worried her friend would laugh at her. But the laughter never came.

Instead, her friend took her hands in hers and smiled warmly just as Ember opened her eyes. She had her friend's support. With that, Ember felt she could do anything.
