Winnifred Opal was pretty certain that she needed more supplies. She was also pretty sure there were supplies... out there. Just beyond the boundaries of the university. However, it was also dangerous out there. That was why she brought the knife. She didn't plan on straying too far from anywhere safe, but one could never be too prepared. In fact, she really would have loved to have more supplies with her, but alas, she only had what she had. (Which was a lot of sweaters, really.)
Still. She was very optimistic as she went out to see what she could find.

She looked around things and under things. There was a fair bit of rubble in this world now, which she hated to admit was not unexpected. After everything, rubble made sense. It also made sense that she was having trouble finding anything useful. So far she'd stumbled across some metal scraps- but nothing that could be used for anything. There was plenty of concrete. She'd never realized how much of the city was made of the stuff. With sidewalks and everything the stuff just seemed to spread. When archaeologists look back on this civilization they were going to comment on that, she was sure. That sort of academic commented on everything, though.
Winnifred Opal gave a small chuckle as she recalled some of her former coworkers. She hoped they were still somewhere safe...or dead. She wouldn't wish the in-between on anyone. With a shudder she moved to check out another pile of rubble.

What she found was NOT SUPPLIES. Or even rubble. It was a shadow undead thing. It was large and scary and Winnifred Opal was pretty sure it could kick her butt. Even if she could kick it's butt...it would hurt her, she was sure.
So, seeing that she still had the element of surprise here, she turned tail and ran away from that thing.
She really hoped it wasn't chasing her, because that would be sad.
She ran until she was out of breath and HAD to stop. A wary glance was cast behind her, and she was very glad to see that she was not being followed. With a great big sigh, Opal sat down on a rock.
Stretching, the former professor got to her feet.She should probably start heading back home... though there was nothing to keep her from searching for loot as she went.

No sooner did she take three steps towards something promising (it looked like a shopping cart) then she heard... IT. The shadow undying thing apparently HAD been following her.
"Dammit!" Winnifred Opal wasn't going to mess with it. She really wasn't. It was time for more running. She was grateful, at least, for the fact that she'd had a brief rest.
She put more effort into her running, and made a point to turn a few corners. Zig-zag and all that. Hopefully she'd lose it.

The creature stayed hot on her heels this time. Winnifred Opal was not happy about that. SHE KEPT RUNNING.
She'd always been good at running. She'd not loved running, but she'd been good at it when she needed to. Even ran a few marathons.
She was glad she'd not totally forgotten her training, though she was a little rusty. Still. Winnifred Opal was hopeful that she'd outrun this thing.

It seemed almost as determined as she was.
But Winnifred Opal had always been quite stubborn. She wasn't about to give up. She was going to keep running.
When she finally thought she might actually drop, she paused to look behind her.
Nothing there. Nothing but broken bits of the old world.
Winnifred Opal didn't trust it, but she did decide it was as good as time as any to take a break. So, sitting down with her back against a wall, she took another break.
Hm. She might have gone a little farther than she had wanted to.
She guessed it had been at least forty minutes before she even tried to move. Things had been quite, and she was feeling rather good... hopefully there were no surprises around the corner.

"Oh, hell!" There was indeed something around the next corner.
Winnifred was having none of it.
She might just come to hate running, after all. Or love it, since it was saving her hide.
Okay. Now it was time to find out where she was and figure out the shortest path home. Because running all day had not been her plan.

Okay. She thought if she just went that way-- A loud noise, like something stomping and snorting caught her attention. Okay. Winnifred was NOT alone. But where was the monster?
Crap. She looked around for it wildly, she could hear it- it seemed like it was right on top of her. But she couldn't SEE it.
She did feel it when she bumped into it, causing her just and squeal. In a panic, she stabbed it with her knife.
It whinnied and screamed and she thought it might have stepped on her- she wasn't sure but she screamed, too, because whatever it did hurt.
But it didn't' kill her...and it didn't hit her again.
HP: 1/50 Damage: 6 Mob HP: DEAD

Shaking with fear and effort and exhaustion probably, Winnifred turn to leave the area as quick as possible. She did stop to pick up a strange card she'd found..
bu then she went right on home. The whole while praying nothing would come after her.
