Oliver was not a fan of the zombie apocalypse. Somewhere between being ambushed by his own shadow and being attacked by a giant horse, he had developed a persistent tremble, like a sad chihuahua lost in the streets. At least he had found a safe place for his civilian, no longer dragging the giant bear-man around like a 300lb dead weight. And he had found a protector, who had never let him down before, someone who had saved him from zombies once before. It wasn't enough to reassure him completely, but it was keeping the kid away from a complete nervous meltdown.
"Finn... D-do you think we'll get out of here okay? What if... what i-if they can't get the portal working?" Oliver asked nervously, peering into cars they passed like he was expecting something to jump out and ambush them.

Finn had gone along with Oliver because there was really nothing more to be done in the Daycare area, and also because it seemed prudent to go out and continue to look for supplies, especially considering they had no idea how long they were going to be stuck out there. If the younger man had said anything about feeling safer with the moon hunter accompanying him in a zombie apocalypse, Finn might have scoffed, and reminded the lifer that he himself had succumbed to the infection on multiple occasions now, making him perhaps one of the least safe people to be with at that particular moment.
"They'll get it working. Eventually. Probably right when the s**t hits the fan so hard that we'll be cleaning up the mess for weeks afterwards." He said, with a light shrug of his shoulders that seemed to indicate he really couldn't be asked to care.

"Y-you think it's going to get worse? Than that huge horse thing, I mean?" Oliver asked, frowning. He was afraid he already knew the answer... Things always got worse. That was practically listed in their job description, watching things get worse. Then somehow they just had to not die.
Something about his companion's nonchalance was reassuring anyway. Oliver searched around with a little less timid hesitance, going so far as to actually peer into the back of a van. "Hey, this looks like camping supplies. You think they might have a tent? Or a working gas stove or something? I never, um... tried it on a car... but I might be able to pick the lock."

"Don't they always?" Finn voiced what Oliver already knew, while peeking through the windows of cars for anything that might be useful, though he was sure most of them had already been stripped.
Oliver's question grabbed his attention, and he wandered towards him, having a glimpse through the back window of the van himself. "Might as well try it."
He did not notice the shadow Finn that was suddenly stalking up behind them both.

Oliver rummaged around in his pockets, finally pulling out a handful of office supplies, an eraser, a couple elastic bands, a row of staples, and three paperclips of varying sizes. Pulling two of the three out, he smiled.
"A few years ago I played a game that had a pretty neat set of lock picking mechanics, but I was kinda curious, um, how it actually worked in real life..." The kid shoved the leftover items back into his pockets and started bending the paperclips straight. "I h-haven't done this for awhile though, um... I might not..."
At that moment he glanced up, and saw the shadow approaching from behind.
"Finn, look out!" He yelped, dropping the paperclips in favour of his giant axe. His slash barely clipped the shadow, but it was enough to distract the thing, and prevent it from hitting his friend in the back. Only belatedly did Oliver realize he had just stepped up to fight the shadow equivalent of a full hunter. One who's regular self had no problem knocking him down on the training field.

Finn was only barely listening, lost in his own myriad of thoughts while Oliver busied himself with pulling odd items out of his pockets and readying paperclips for a bit of locksmithing. He did nod at intervals to show that he was, at least, somewhat paying attention, but his mind kept wandering, back to the giant horse, back to his encounter with Ripley, and with Jack as well. There were so many things playing on his mind that he didn't even know where to start when it came to dealing with it all.
It was Oliver's exclamation followed by the sudden summoning of his axe that jerked Finn out of these thoughts and back to the present, ducking as he summoned his own weapon and turned towards the more immediate threat.
Ah. Another shadow version of himself. How wonderful.
"Fuuuuuuuck sake, again?!" He sighed, straightening and stepping forward to lend Oliver a little bit of support in the form of some defense.
Not that it was very good defense. Maybe he was distracted by his shadow selves pretty eye.
