CreativiTeaMake us Something Inspired Starts: Friday, Oct 2 @ 9am EST Closes:Monday Oct 12 @ 10pm EST Judging: Shortly after As you were traveling through the Tea Party and Faire, you find yourself beconed in by a pair of Charismatic "lapsang" ponies. "Come on in come on in! Perhaps we could interest you in some of our art? Or perhaps you'd like to join our crafting time!" as a demonstration, one grabbed a large piece of parchment, his ink-like illusion melting into it while the other hooked up his tea pot with the end of a massive paintbrush, and used the end to pop off the lid. Dipping the brush into the paper, they seemed to dance together as a team, painting the parchment with broad strokes of concentrated tea, rapidly cranking out a painting from memory.. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to see what you could do with some tea.

Additional Image links/thumbnails: http://s1135.photobucket.com/user/Tai_Liln/library/tea art?sort=3&page=1 (pb full of process pics and finished art pics) How you used Tea/Coffee:I used several different brewed teas (Bigelow's Pomegranate Pizzazz and Orange & Spice, some generic Green tea, Tazo's Awake , High Mountain Oolong tea) as the shading and coloring of the painting. For darker shading I used a sweet tea concentrate, For a bit more color and texture I used the pomegranate tea to give the flower a red tint, and green tea on the leaves of the flower for texture. I used the leaves from the High mountain oolong tea near the bottom as grass.

Username:xxxxx techabyte Title of piece:xxxxx The Blooming of Tea Trees Inspiration/Subject:xxxxx The inspiration for this piece came from the differences and yet similarities in the two stallions. One has no scales and another has scales. I interpreted that as a tree with no leaves, waiting to grow, and one full of leaves and fruit. Entry: Additional Image links/thumbnails: How you used Tea/Coffee:xxxxx Tree Number One: The first tree was used in part thanks to the second tree. Using hot glue, I started at the top and gradually moved down, making limbs and branches, and dumped some black tea from the PG tips on, and then tapped it to get any excess off. xxxxx Tree Number Two: This tree used a lot more tea than the first! A camomile tea bag was glued onto the cardboard, dry, to form the base of the tree leaves, make it look full. The opened tea bags from tree number one were twisted, then glued down to form the trunks, and then the tea from inside was glued on top to make it look like thriving bark. Additional tea bags were glued on top of the base tree to make it seem more 3D. Tea was also glued to the background to make it look like the world was thriving behind tree number two. After some spritzing with a water bottle, the tea bags came to life and gave it the color that you see above! xxxxx The mugs, cardboard, and glue are the only none tea used products in this art piece.

Username: Thalea Title of piece: I Dream of Tea Inspiration/Subject: The image upon the scroll of the one stallion inspired me and then I was inspired by the smoke coming off of them, as it reminded me of the smoke coming from the Jeannie’s bottle when ever she leaves it or enters it. So I have it as the world upon the tea pot is desolate and lifeless except for one flower representing hope and the dream. And then the smoke comes from the tea pot and shows the world that is not withering away. The tree has growth and the flower has color, there is life in coffee and tea. (I know for sure that without coffee and tea I am not sure how I would be able to get through my day) Entry: Additional Image thumbnails: I had a little pest helper towards the end my art project, he even posed for the camera. How you used Tea/Coffee: I used the coffee to color the canvas a light brown on the tea pot and within the dream sequence; I then used the grounds to build up the tree, cloud, mountains, sun, and the outline of the flower. Loose leaf tea from Tevana was used as the leaves in the tree. The nontea items: The paint within the flower (I tried to dye it with my tea, but it was not strong enough), the canvas, and then the black paint on the tea pot.

Username: LydaLynn Title of piece: Tea Journal Inspiration/Subject: Tea Stained Stallion's journal. After all, he wants to remember all the lovely tea he has gotten the chance to enjoy. Entry: Additional Image links/thumbnails: How you used Tea/Coffee:I started by tea staining journal pages. I also tea stained some white fabric. After allowing everything to dry I was able to start putting the journal together. I cut a hole for the art panel. I expiramented with a few different ideas before figuring out that after the tea stain on the page, staining for art wasn't going to work at all. So I used a charred cinnamon stick (I figured half the teas I was using had cinnamon so it stayed in the spirit of the contest) to sketch the art then accented with the tea stains and a paintbrush. Then I put the journal together. I used comic book backing board for the cover, then covered that with the tea stained fabric. I put the final image of the stained stallion I had made in the art window and secured the inside with additional covered board.then I stitched the pages in. I haven't ever bound a book before but I think it came out pretty well. The pages, though, were still kind of curled from staining and drying so I made a cord with a vial I filled with tea to keep it together. The stains are richer in person, it looks kind of like an antiqued old map. It also smells amazing.

Username: Tara de Draiocht Title of piece: Cup of Inspiration. Inspiration/Subject: A whimsical Teapot/Tea Cup of your own design. Entry: / Side ViewAdditional Image links/thumbnails: , , , , , , How you used Tea/Coffee: I steeped the tea leaves and then molded them around a mini Japanese teacup to create a cup and saucer. (similar to this). I combined sugar to the tea leaf paste to try and hold it together before putting the structure in the fridge/ freezer. At the same time I created a mini saucer, similar process to the cup and froze that as well. Then once the tea cup was ready I set up a little area as a place setting. This process altogether took two days. The tea blends are: "Sour Wolf" a delicious blend of rooibos vanilla, cinnamon & rooibos cinnamon apple, with accents of cinnamon & apple pieces. The rim of the cup is Nestle's Orange Pekoe. I also poured the Orange Pekoe into the tea cup and added a swirl (similar to the sun in the painting the stallion is holding) as a final touch!
