There had to be some sort of wheelbarrow or shopping cart or something lying around. Bren would have simply left the human somewhere safe and wandered around looking for a portal on his own, but nowhere was safe. Everywhere he turned he met up with one of those creatures. The boil plodded toward an abandoned casino, or rather C SI O as its sign declared, and hauled the man inside, almost dropping him when he discovered there was someone already inside.

Brenley had encountered several copies of himself since he'd arrived at Amityville, so he fully expected this one to berate him, tell him his shoes were on wrong or otherwise try to knock him off balance. It simply stood there silently while he placed the human on the floor. The boil almost thought that was worse.

When it decided to strike, the boil wasn't ready for it. The doppelganger summoned its weapons and lunged for Bren faster than he had ever managed against an opponent himself, and it struck him with such force that he stumbled back, forced to catch his breath when he hadn't done anything at all. After that, the shadow waited, holding perfectly still until the reaper had summoned his own weapons and struck back.

Now that it had the measure of him, it didn't hesitate, but neither did Bren. He struck himself hard in the side of the head, trying to keep from wincing as what looked to be his own flesh dented at his temple and began to bleed.

It felt both satisfying and awkward to beat himself up, though it wasn't a truly fair fight because the thing didn't move like he did. It was faster, but also less able to predict where he'd be, and most of the time Bren was able to counter its attacks while delivering stunning blows of his own.

But that didn't mean he wasn't swiftly growing exhausted. The boil turned to make sure his human wasn't being bombarded while he was distracted and the shadow dug its sharp fingers into his throat, pulling a gurgling shout out of him.

Luckily, the creature appeared to be tiring more quickly. His copy was bleeding freely now, but it still managed a grin as he stabbed it in the gut.

Bren fell to his knees, one of his blades sunken deeply in the chest of the shadow. He remained on the ground as it dissipated and didn't move for quite a while afterward.
