RULES OF THIS GAME:
[ Step 1]: - You must find a minimum of TWO other players to enter the poker table with you. If you cannot find someone else put a [ OPEN ] at the top of your post. This means you are open for inviting other players. You can have up to 5 people in a poker game thread, if you wish. All players may now come in, and roll in whatever order they wish, you really don't have to wait for players to get your rolls in!
Label your thread [ POKER RP] (PLAYERS HERE). You can play cross faction, obviously! Remember MINIMUM 3 players MAX 5 players!
The player who made the thread is responsible for closing it when finished.
[ Step 2]: All players must now roll 5d12 and make their FIRST POST in that thread. This equals the CARDS they have on their hands where 1= Ace, 11 = Jack, 12 = Queen. There are no kings. Edit your OOC accordingly with your hand. Make a post regarding your hand/entering the thread/ etc.
[ Step 3]: Look at your hand combination. You may now choose to DISCARD one card from your hand you do not like. Select which number you want to discard (from your rolls), and then in a second post, roll 1d12 again. This is your new card. Edit your OOC HAND accordingly, and write a small post of your character. This phase is optional.
[ Step 4]: Look at your hand combination. You may now choose to DISCARD ANOTHER card from your hand you do not like. Select which number you want to discard (from your rolls), and then in your third post, roll 1d12 again. This is your new card. Edit your OOC accordingly, and write a small post of your character. This phase is optional, and your LAST chance to swap cards.
[ Step 4b]: If you somehow have "cash" in your minis inventory, now is the chance to use it! Make a post, and RP that you are using your cash to BRIBE the dealer. Immediately send the cash item to Junkyard. This item WILL be removed from your inventory. When you have done so (don't worry about waiting for confirmation, just do NOT use this item anywhere else or you will be removed from the event), replace any card in your hand with a card of your choice. For example, if your current hand is 1, 2 , 2, 4, 5, with your bribe, you may now change it to 1, 2 3, 4, 5. Proceed to the next step when done. This step is only for CASH people only (if you own this item on the site).
[ Step 5]: You are done swapping cards! This is now your FINAL HAND. We're going to simplify the rules here for Poker so it isn't a big nightmare to complete. Look at the list below:
Select a combination that is APPROPRIATE to your hand. For example, if you have 2, 2, 5, 6, 7, your highest is a pair. If you got 2 3 4 5 6, your highest is a straight. etc etc. Use the form below to submit your final hand and rp out your post.

[ Step 6]: When ALL PLAYERS have submitted their hand, simply look at this chart again to see who has the highest combo. If there are two "tied" values, simply look at who has the higher card numbers. That person is the WINNER. If you are the WINNER of the thread, you get 25 casino points. Everyone else has to subtract 5 as penalty. Go ahead and edit your ooc for casino points accordingly.
If players are caught not subtracting points, they will be disqualified from any future poker games! If players do NOT respond in a timely manner despite posting one hand, they will be considered no longer part of the game (-5 penalty for "losing"). The wait period for a timely tag should be 12 hours before moving onwards. You may play multiple poker games at once.
If he could have, Sling would have stayed at the slots the whole time. There was something real magical about the way those machines worked, and even after he burned through all his turns playing them he sat and watched them for a while. Maybe too long - he didn't realize how much time had passed, and it somehow seemed like hours and minutes at the same time, which was a weird feeling that he didn't much like.
Whatever the case, he knew how to do poker. He and the boys used to get together and play all the time, though they usually had way, way more beers than was respectable for a place like this. Did this place even have beers?
"Hey, this place got any beer? Don't gotta be American kind, I ain't one of those," he asked the dealer, who gave him a long-suffering look and just dealt the cards.

[6, 4, 2, 10, 5 ] "They have plenty of alcohol. I'm sure someone can get it." The professor groaned as he eased himself into a chair and the dealer threw a few cards his way. Morris was down to the wire and while he had given what he could to the school, he knew he was right at the cusp of buying himself. He had to win a few games or else someone would be eaten old man for supper. He had spent a good deal of time contemplating if he was even taste good and, upon taking the first bite, the Casino crew would concede that he was too chewy with no flavor and throw him in the bin. Wouldn't that be ironic? Dying for food and not even being any good.
The man beside him looked like he could be playing Ultimate Frisbee on the campus, but the lack of a Emerson jersey said he was from somewhere else. He didn't look like a prisoner to say the least and he guessed that was better than anything at this point. The collar said he was also in the same pit he was, and he looked back at his cards, wondering how well the other groups would fair at the end of this and how many would be wrapped in foil and kept in a deep freeze.
His stomach grumbled and he realized he had drunk plenty today but hadn't eaten much of anything. Then again, it wasn't like he would touch ANY food here.

Meandering through the casino eventually landed her in a more...unfamiliar place. Sort of. The tables were the same, the attendants and dealers all the same, even some of the people looked familiar, but the games weren't like any of the ones she'd tried before. Now, Mel wasn't much for gambling, but it didn't long for her to figure out what the game was after she stood by and watched one of the tables.
"Poker, huh?" she mused as she moved on from observing to look for a table to join. Most of the ones she passed were occupied, but there was one just a bit further down that only had two others so far, so she quickly made her way over, pulling up a seat just as talk of alcohol came about.
"They served that drugged cocktail a while back, right?" she offered as the dealer passed her a set of cards. She gave them a wary look before glancing over at the other two. Neither looked familiar but both still had collars on; she immediately regretted taking a seat. "I'm not sure I'd want any of the food or drinks here, particularly the food," there was a pause as her stomach turned, "but I that's just me."
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF MY CHARACTER Petit, 5'5" and 114lbs. She is rather fair skinned with relatively soft facial features (compared to her parents) and curiously blue-green eyes. Her hair is a light shade of caramel brown and is naturally wavy, an asset she's rather proud of. [ ref ]
The sound of someone else's voice tore Sling's attention away from his cards, which was a bit reckless, considering. When he'd played poker back home, most of them were usually a few drinks in, and no one paid much attention when the cards went waving all around with the wild gestures of the even wilder stories they all told.
"Naw, table's open for all," he pleasantly welcomed him. "Don't recognize you from up at the Clearview. Name's Sling. You from that there University I keep on hearin' about?"
As much as Sling tried not to judge, he had to admit that he kind of looked the part. He'd never been to college, not even for a visit, but the man looked a fair bit like the image that came to mind when he thought of the word 'professor'.
He gave a wide, brightly cheerful smile in greeting to the girl who joined as their third, and was just about to ask why she looked so familiar when he was distracted by his efforts to remember what cocktail she was talking about.
"The cocktail...a while--aw, shoot!" With a laugh, he shook his head. "You sure are right! They near about fooled me into going through all that again, not doin' that, no ma'am."

"i don't think a place that is luring people in for meat would be up for giving even a few appetizers to their guests. They would see no benefits from it. you wouldn't develop any flavors or fats in that amount of time."
He wondered if the alcohol somehow tenderized them for a moment and thought best not to dwell on such an idea.
"Between the alcohol and the energy used for the machines and lights, I don't see why they haven't bartered for food instead. Even welcoming people as workers to make some sort of garden or food source OTHER than laying out a strange and elaborate trap such as this. Whatever government they have assembled seems to center around a very odd idea." In only a month, it was frightening what some groups could think up to stay alive.
Looking at his hand, he tossed a 10 and welcomed another card, hoping for a 3 but not sure his luck would be THAT good.
"Where are you from? My name is Dr. Hubertson? Are your groups doing ok?" He knew of a few places by name but being separated had left him out of touch with the world outside of the University and the condition of the other people. He wasn't sure if he wanted to know if they were doing better or worse, as each option had bad thoughts linked to it.

Maybe not, but there was a restaurant set up, so the option to sit back and enjoy a meal was still available to anyone who could afford it. She couldn't, not that she wanted to.
"Maybe they hold you for a while once your deadline is up, to fatten you up or something," she said, her face suddenly contorting at the idea. The words had left her before she realized it, and now that the idea was out there she couldn't help but play out the possible scenarios in her head. In such a case she sort of wish she wasn't such an avid fan of shows like Criminal Minds, where cannibalism had actually been touched on in certain episodes. Mel chose to keep her mouth shut about the episode that came to mind and instead just dropped a 6 in silence, wondering if she'd get lucky.
Blackjack hadn't been as friendly, maybe Poker might be a bit kinder to her.
"I'm Pomelo," she offered once she'd picked up her card and placed it in her hand accordingly. A smile followed when she looked up, eyes quickly going to the other man at the table who looked incredibly familiar. Maybe she'd seen him around the bandits' area? She was usually good with putting names to faces if she knew them...
"Uh, from Clearview Apartments, if you're familiar with our group. Far as I know we're working on getting everyone out. How 'bout you guys?"

Yep, even sounded all smart like he was from the university. Sling tried his hardest to pay attention to all those words he said, but it got a bit difficult in the middle, especially since he was supposed to be focusing on playing. He wasn't really sure how the government played into it, but that could have just been how things in Canada were, he guessed.
"I'm from down in--oh, you prob'ly mean up here, huh? The Apartments in town. I reckon we're doing as well as we can." He felt a bit guilty for not knowing more, but once again, attention wasn't his strength.
"Fatten us up? Like hogs?" Oh lord, he knew he had the right feeling about that.
